Covid Andalucia- Covid incidence rate in Andalucía drops below 200 for the first time in two months:
-Andalucía registered 1,095 new coronavirus infections this Friday, 3 September, a decrease of 134 compared to the day before and 603 fewer than seven days ago.
-The region added 29 Covid-19 deaths, four more than Thursday and one more than a week ago. Unreliable News- Beware of news stories that open with “Study Shows…”:
-News outlets are in a constant race to get out the latest news stories to stay ahead of their competitors. A new trend shows that they are now raiding websites that host pre-peer-reviewed scientific studies for new stories to report. These sites are designed to provide researchers the ability to view, confirm and validate new studies, so they may then be updated, corrected and then submitted to official scientific journals as peer reviewed. These sites were never supposed to provide info for common distribution.
Let me explain…
-In order to validate a new science study the researchers must submit it to technical journals for publication. The journals then post these not yet validated studies on special websites for researchers, so other researchers can “peer review” the study. If it is confirmed by the peers/researchers on these pre publication websites, it is then approved for publication in the scientific journals as peer reviewed, and thus validated.
-The problem is that the news outlets are now scanning these “pre-peer-review study hosting sites”, and posting articles based on the un-validated studies. These sites all contain disclaimers clearly explaining the info in the studies they host are unverified, not yet peer reviewed, and are not to be relied on as accurate. Most news outlets fail to mention that disclaimer in their articles, often posting the unverified info as fact, with eye catching sensational headlines saying “Study Shows…” as if that means it must be true.
-When you read any news based on a study, before believing it, check the source of the study to confirm it comes from a major scientific journal, and not a “pre-peer-reviewed scientific studies” website.

WhatsApp will stop working on old smartphones in two months leaving millions of people from seeing messages: Some 43 models – both Android and iOS – will be unable to use the encrypted messaging service.

Heavy rainfall causes destructive flash floods in Spain: Heavy rainfall on Wednesday caused flooding in parts of central and eastern Spain. -Spain suffered a shock World Cup qualifying defeat in Sweden while Euro 2020 winners Italy were held by Bulgaria.

Cómpeta Art Walk is back on September 17, 18 & 19 2021 after an 18 month break:
This will be the 12th year that this beautiful white mountain village has hosted the Art Walk, with many international artists, sculptors and craftspeople exhibiting in their own homes, galleries or in municipal buildings.
You will get the chance to talk to the exhibitors about their motivation, inspiration and creative processes in their art, and of course to purchase pieces.
All spaces are within a manageable walking distance of each other (some steep roads, this is a mountain village), and can be viewed in one day.
As there will be a 2 hour break from 2.00pm – 4.00pm why not book a table at one of the many wonderful restaurants that are scattered throughout Cómpeta, or indeed make a weekend of it and book your own accommodation.
There will be live music on Saturday night in the main square and possibly other smaller musical events throughout the weekend.

We give short talks on particular periods or areas of history of members’ choosing and by studying history we hope it will provide an insight into the way Spain has evolved through the many cultures that have resided in Spain, from the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Visigoths, to the Arabs who have all left their legacy behind which is clearly visible in the form of Art, Architecture, cuisine, culture etc. Alone among the nations of Western Europe large areas of its territory has been occupied by non-Europeans which makes its history unique.

New Driving Laws & Fines to be Proposed: Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is looking for approval from the Spanish parliament to introduce five new fines as well as other amendments to the country’s traffic code later this month.
-Not switching off the engine when the vehicle is stationary or parked for more than 2 minutes.
-Holding a mobile phone even if you’re not using it. This summer, drivers in Spain were warned by the DGT that using mobile devices (including GPSs and headphones) while driving is already considered a punishable offence which leads to a €200 fine and the loss of 3 points off one’s driving licence.
-Surpassing speed limit when overtaking on secondary roads.
-Having a speed camera detector in your vehicle.
-Not wearing a helmet while riding an e-scooter. Since January 2021, e-scooter users have been banned from riding on the pavement, have a maximum speed limit of 25km/h and require a driving certificate, not that the evidence suggests that these measures are being policed properly across Spain. Covid measures eased as more than 70 towns in Malaga province move to health alert Level 1: More than 70 municipalities in Malaga province will move to health alert Level 1, the least restrictive of all those set by the Junta de Andalucía, on Thursday morning. They are the towns in the Serranía, La Vega and Axarquía health districts.

A strong hailstorm surprise to the region of Antequera: {Translation, summary}

Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.

On Monday the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa issued an alert about the “C.1.2 lineage”, saying it had been detected in all provinces in the country, but at a relatively low rate.

Spain Includes Whole of Austria & Croatia to Its High-Risk List, Removes Most of Finland:
-Spain’s Ministry of Health has updated the country’s list of high-risk areas, travellers from which are subject to more stringent entry restrictions upon arrival to Spain.
-The list has become effective on Monday, August 30, and will remain in place until September 5, Sunday.
-Thus, since Monday, travellers from the whole territory of Austria and Croatia are required to present a certificate that proves they have been vaccinated with a vaccine or were previously infected with COVID-19 in the last months, or enter by providing COVID-19 negative test results.
-Romania’s region of Bucuresti-Ilfov has also been categorized as a high-risk region since August 30.

Electricity prices break all records in August: almost 200% more expensive than in 2020: {Translation}
– The price of electricity on the wholesale market has broken all records in our country in August. With an average price of 105.94 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), it became the most expensive month in our history.

The average for the first eight months of this year is 68.48 euros, 123% higher than the same period last year (30.72 euros).
-In 24 of the 31 days of this month, the average electricity price has been above 100 euros per MWh. The forecasts of the experts, the government and the electricity companies are that it will remain at this level until at least the end of the year.
-Experts say the prices have been pushed up by a rise in energy demand during a very hot summer and also a decrease in wind-generated power – due to the lack of wind – on top of price increases for gas and CO2 emissions.
-The consumers most affected by the increase in electricity prices in the wholesale market are the almost 11 million domestic customers who have the regulated tariff or pvpc, the most volatile in our neighbouring countries. The rest of consumers have annual contracts with retailers.
-The cost of electricity accounts for approximately 35% of the total electricity bill, 32% are charges (premiums for renewables, tariff deficit, etc.), 22% are tolls (transmission and distribution costs) and 10% are taxes. CSIF warns of poor maintenance of SAS ambulances in Axarquia: {Translation}
-The Central Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants, CSIF, in Malaga, warns of the poor maintenance of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) medical transport vehicles by ASM Ambulancias, the company in charge of it, in the Axarquia health area, after the advanced life support unit in Velez-Malaga burnt down on Monday.

Seven new earthquakes registered off the coast of Malaga:
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported a new series of seismic movements with an epicentre in the south of the Alboran Sea after more than ten earthquakes were detected the day before, Saturday, August 28. The first and largest of them registered a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale.

ANOTHER PRODUCT RECALL BLAMED ON ETHYLENE OXIDE CONTAMINATION- Decathlon has issued an urgent product recalls on on several items, including energy bars & Salts Caps, containing the harmful additive ethylene oxide: Specifically mentioned are five products resourced from the firm Aptonia, who among things, supply bars and supplements created with sesame that was sold in the market between June 19 and August 12 this year.
-Firstly, and most disturbingly, the company warns that the ethylene oxide content is higher than that set by current EU regulations in the 30 orange-flavoured Vitamins + Minerals bars. Specifically, lots 21,140 and 21,189 that were sold until August 12. Also, lot 21,166 of the Electrolytes Tables “Ecosize” lemon flavoured bars with 20 bars inside and lot 21,167 of the same product packed with ten bars.
-However, this notice does not only affect the bars supplied by Aptonia. In a statement on their website, the company also warns of the high presence of ethylene oxide in the bottle of 100 electrolyte capsules from Salts Caps. Specifically of lot 21,182, which was sold in the market until last August 12.

Microsoft is threatening to withhold Windows 11 updates if your computer’s CPU is older than mid 2017:
-Previously we wrote how Microsoft’s Windows 11 won’t technically leave millions of PCs behind — the company told us it won’t actually block you from installing Windows 11 on a PC with an older CPU, so long as you download and manually install a Windows 11 system installer ISO file all by yourself. But it turns out even that technicality has a technicality. Microsoft is now threatening to withhold Windows Updates from your copy of Windows 11 — potentially even security updates — if you take that route.
-We’re not sure why the company didn’t mention it in our original briefing, but Microsoft has since told The Verge that unsupported PCs won’t be entitled to receive Windows Updates, and that even security and driver updates may be withheld. It’s not just security updates at stake, by the way. If you’re unwilling or unable to replace your older-than-Intel 8th-Gen-CPU (2017), Windows 11 could theoretically be an operating system where you go back to the days of manually downloading driver updates for all your hardware.
–(This same thing happened when Win 10 was released. There were some compatibility issues for the first year, but to Microsofts credit, after that Win 10 became very friendly to older computers. Will it be the same with Win 11? I doubt it. Researchers discover three supermassive black holes merging together in nearby universe: Supermassive black holes from three galaxies have been found merging together to form a triple active galactic nucleus, a compact region at the centre of a newly discovered galaxy that has a much-higher-than-normal luminosity, Indian scientists said.
The IIA team explains that if two galaxies collide, their black hole will also come closer by transferring the kinetic energy to the surrounding gas. The distance between the blackholes decreases with time until the separation is around a parsec (3.26 light-years). The two black holes are then unable to lose any further kinetic energy in order to get even closer and merge. This is known as the final parsec problem. Three Ginger Kittens For Adoption: Torrox Costa. I care for a colony of cats. A new female arrived a few months ago and she was heavily pregnant and gave birth to three beautiful kittens. I am looking for homes for them rather than leave them on the streets to become homeless cats. All cats deserve a loving home and they will bring you a great deal of joy and pleasure.
They are beautiful kittens. All three are ginger but different shades and different tabby patterns. Two are female and one is a male and they would love a family of their own.
They all have names according to their colour and behaviour. Blaze is the male and he has large wide stripes with beautiful yellow eyes. Peach is a beauty and she has small ginger stripes and is feisty. Ruby is a beige colour, a little quieter than the others and is a bit shy. She is a colour which I have never seen before and is quite tiny in comparison to the others. They all love chilling in cardboard boxes and playing games with each other. They love one another.

Nerja’s “Summer in Los Cangrejos” programme of cultural shows: Next Wednesday, 1 September, the “Summer in Los Cangrejos” programme of cultural shows, which was postponed as a precautionary measure due to the spread of the coronavirus in the municipality, will begin.
It will begin with the screening of the Disney Pixar film Onward. Thus, for two weeks, every night there will be classical, jazz and contemporary music concerts, flamenco performances, theatre and magic shows, until the 15th of September, when the programme will end with the Nerja Music Band. All events are scheduled for 21.30 hours, except for the children’s festival on Sunday, 5 September, which will start at 21.00 hours.

Electricity price in Spain breaks all records, with the most expensive bills in history on the way:
-The wholesale price of electricity in Spain continues to climb – without respite. When it was thought that it had peaked, this Thursday (26 August) the average daily price of electricity in the wholesale market will shoot to a new all-time high, reaching 122.76 euros per megawatt hour (MWh).
-The previous record was set on 13 August, when the energy price hit 117.29 euros/MWh, but the latest increase will see it jump more than five euros compared to that. This is despite a brief drop in the wholesale price being registered last week.
-Therefore, the average wholesale price of electricity will be triple that of a year ago, when it stood at 46.25 euros.
-It means that the electricity bill of an average user in August will be the most expensive in history, with an increase in the first fortnight of 43.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Facua consumers organisation.
-Therefore, the average user will pay 27.85 euros more than in August 2020, when the bill stood at 63.77 euros. The reduction in sales tax to 10 per cent until December, while the average price per megawatt hour is above 45 euros, dampens the rise by 9.16 euros.
