Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.

Travelling to Spain from Ireland: Is a paper version of proof of vaccination sufficient for travel into Spain from Ireland or do you also a need negative Antigen test…the relevant government and airline website are not clear whether it one of both that’s required. Thanks in advance

BREAKING NEWS: Spanish Health Authority reports almost 15,000 new infections and 18 deaths in a single day and the incidence is ‘unleashed’ among young people with more than 700 cases: {Translation} Updated: 06.07.2021, 19:28
-The fifth wave of coronavirus continues to worsen, especially among younger people. While mortality from the disease has declined, incidence continues to soar among the under-30 age group. Several communities have announced the admission of people under the age of 25 to ICUs.
-Health has reported on Tuesday that the 14-day incidence has risen to 225 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a difference of almost 19 points compared to Monday. The last 24 hours have seen 14,137 new infections and 18 deaths.
-Other communities with high incidence rates in this age group of 20-29 year-olds are Cantabria (1,574.10 cases), Castilla y León (1,267.74) and Asturias (1,027.67 cases).
-The 20-29 age group continues to lead the incidence figures. In this group it has shot up to 717.46 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, almost 77 points in a single day.
-The 12-19 age group follows closely behind, with an incidence of 652.59 cases. The group closest to these levels is the 30-39 age group, with an incidence of 274 points.
-The autonomous community with the highest incidence levels continues to be Catalonia, with 1,782.97 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In fact, the Catalonia Government has decreed a return to the closure of nightlife from this Friday, as have 3 other northern provinces.
-The number of new cases is 14,137, bringing the cumulative number for the entire pandemic to 3,880,612.
-There are 2,847 patients hospitalised with the disease in the country, although ICU occupancy has not increased, remaining at 616, 6.74% of available intensive care beds.
-The 18 deaths recorded on Tuesday bring to 80,952 the number of deaths from covid in Spain in the entire pandemic. There are 43 cases with a date of death in the last seven days.

UPDATE– Antigen Test not sufficient for UK to Spain travel, unless you are a “habitual resident”:
Testing and vaccination requirements for arrivals from the UK: (Lots of contradictory info out there, this is the best I could find. -Ed.)
From 2 July 2021, the Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) to present on entry one of the following:
-documentation issued within 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain, certifying that you have undertaken a COVID-19 test, e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP or NEAR, and tested negative. Antigen tests are not currently accepted for the majority of travellers.
-Proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain (date(s) of vaccination must be specified), with a vaccine authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation
*If you live in England, Spain will accept the NHS COVID Pass or your NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status. If you live in Scotland or Wales, Spain will accept your respective NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status. This rate is the second highest in the province and places the indicator within the extreme risk for Covid.
-In the sanitary districts of la Axarquía it rises nearly ten points, with 117,5 ; in Costa del Sol increases by more than 20 points, going from 330,6 this Monday to 351,8; as in the district of Malaga , with 273,1 in front of the 241,8 of the previous day.

Spain drafts legal reform allowing state to mobilize all adults in times of crisis as well as requisition private assets: The draft legislation indicates that all citizens, without exception, must follow the orders and instructions of the relevant authorities if a state of crisis – or “situation of interest to national security” as it is termed in the document – is declared. The reform also states that authorities can temporarily requisition all types of assets, take over or temporarily occupy those that are needed and suspend all activity.

New rules which will allow fully vaccinated Brits to return from amber list destinations without having to quarantine will be revealed this week: Holiday destinations including Spain, Greece and Portugal are currently on the UK’s amber list, meaning Brits have to quarantine for 10 days when returning to the country.
It has been revealed that the government want UK travellers who have been double-jabbed to be able to avoid the amber quarantine restrictions.

Self-Isolation Rules Ease as U.K. Faces 100,000 Cases a Day: Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced that from Aug. 16, “anyone who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate if they have been fully vaccinated.” The same rule will apply to under-18s, who are not currently being vaccinated, he said.
Ending the requirement to send whole school year-group “bubbles” home if one child tests positive will also ease the threat of disruption for millions of working parents and their employers.

Covid Andalucia- Covid incidence soars to almost 200 points in Andalusia, but only one death recorded: {Translation} Updated: 05/07/2021 18:43

Covid Malaga- Malaga enters the Covid-19 ‘extreme risk’ zone as infections increase: The coronavirus cumulative incidence rate in Malaga city has risen more than 50 points since Friday and, this Monday (5 July), stands at 253 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.
-The city has, therefore, reached the ‘extreme risk’ of virus transmission alert level as agreed by Spain’s Ministry of Health and the regions, a ‘traffic light’ that turns red when area exceeds an incidence rate of 250 – a situation that has been repeated along most of the Costa del Sol.
-On Tuesday, 6 July, the Junta de Andalucía’s committee of experts will analyse the incidence rate of all the provinces this week and will determine whether or not to maintain or ease the current restrictions in the region. Travel Update- Despite prior announcements to the contrary, Spain to also accept travellers with cheaper rapid antigen tests: Updated: 7 Jun 2021
-Spain will allow travellers to enter the country as of Monday (7 June) if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, present a negative PCR test or show that they have tested negative with a cheaper rapid antigen test. EURACTIV’s partner EFE reported.
-The Spanish Official Gazette published a revised national regulation on Saturday, which adds fast antigen tests to the list of possible ways to enter the country. The only way until now to enter the country was with a PCR test done up to 72 hours before the trip. However, such PCR tests are more expensive in the EU than antigen tests. For example, in Spain, they cost about €100.
-Valid entry documents – according to the revised regulation – include vaccination and recovery certificates, including the EU Digital COVID Certificate, which is in the process of being rolled out across the bloc.
-Government sources quoted by newspaper El Pais said travellers from third countries will need to have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival in order to enter Spain. The Spanish schools dropping out of bilingual education programs- ‘It’s a sham’: Some opponents of the program are educators who participated in the Education Ministry’s exchange program for visiting teachers in the United States and Canada. Manuel Quevedo, a biology teacher in La Roda (Albacete), was in Evanston (Illinois) for a year, teaching biology in Spanish to English-speaking students. “It was there that I saw the way an efficient, well-designed system works, with five hours a day in Spanish,” he says.
In Spain, students on the bilingual education program get on average five hours a week of subject matter taught in English, not counting their English language classes. “What we’re doing here is deceitful, it’s a sham, it’s a phony bilingualism where [students] neither learn English nor the subject matter properly,” he says. Germany relaxes restrictions for travelers from UK and other countries: Germany’s public health institute said on Monday the United Kingdom, India, Portugal and Russia were no longer “areas of variant concern”, reducing travel restrictions for people arriving from those countries.

Advice on tile grout: I am looking for advice with regard to brown floor tile grout indoors. When we have not been at our house for a while in Torrox a white crystallisation appears in some areas of the grout, when mopped with agua fuerte most of it disappears, but some doesn’t and in these spots the grout disintegrates.

-Covid continues to hit the province of Malaga. This Friday has left more than half a thousand new cases in just one day, a figure that is practically the worst in the last five months. The rate also climbs more than 16 points in just one day in the province and almost 23 in the capital. Although with almost a hundred patients hospitalised with the virus, the pressure of care is twelve times less than at the beginning of February – when there were more than 1,000 people admitted at provincial level – the incidence shows that we cannot lower our guard. The daily report also leaves another death and nine more hospitalised with Covid 19 in the last few hours.
-The Consejería de Salud y Familias reports that 552 new infections have been recorded. Not since 13 February, when 700 positives were reported had so many infections been detected in the province of Malaga. Since the pandemic began, 107,628 cases have been diagnosed in this territory.
-The provincial rate is now 197.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is 16.1 points higher than the previous day, when it stood at 181.1. -The total number of infections in Spain now stands at 3,821,305 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. 130 countries back deal on global minimum tax for companies: Some 130 countries have agreed on a global minimum tax backed by U.S. President Joe Biden as part of a worldwide effort to keep multinational firms from dodging taxes by shifting their profits to countries with low rates.
The deal calls for a global minimum tax of at least 15%, a key element pushed by Biden as he seeks to raise more revenue for his infrastructure and clean energy plans. There are still technical details that need to be worked out and it would be at least 2023 before the agreement takes effect.

TV Box Problem: Can anyone help with a problem on our Vu-zero TV box. It gets TV from the satellite but it gets the EPG for channel menu from the internet this also allows us to record. The province has exactly 317 cases, which is a new increase compared to the previous day when 272 were registered (45 more). There have also been three deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours and 331 people have been cured.
-The 317 positives reported by the Regional Ministry of Health and Families on Wednesday is the third highest figure for June, only surpassed by those recorded on the 24th, when there were 489, and on Saturday 26th, with 350. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic 106,657 people have been infected with Covid in Malaga, of whom 1,674 have lost their lives. The three fatalities on this latest day bring the number of deaths in June to 29, six more than in May.

Theatrical Tour of the Andlusi Medina Balish- Velez Malaga:
Saturday July 10th. 10am. Price €15. In English & Spanish.
There will be a tour of the suburbs and Balish’s medina. The most outstanding places of the andalusí period will be visited and explained (mosques, cobblestoned streets, walls, the fortress, main gates and arches, strategic blind alleys…). In addition some typical products of that period will be distributed: dried figs, raisins and almonds. There will a theatrical show along the visit with four characters who will come with us. They are:
– The traveller. In his performance he will talk about the importance of Balish as a medina and will recite the quotations and sayings that were collected about it during the historical period of Al-Andalus.
– Abulqasim Benegas. Last Nasrid mayor of Balish whose performance will deal with the fall of Balish in 1487.
– Abu Llaafar Az-zayyat. A renowned Sufi master who was born in Balish. He will talk about his life and work and recite some of his mystic poems in Arabic and English.
– Al-Balishía (La Veleña). The only known andalusí female poet from Balish. Her performance will deal whith love and her character as a woman and poetess as well as everyday life in the alleys of the Andalusian medieval Balish. She will recite her one and only known poem in Arabic.
-Departure will be at at 10am at Plaza de la Constitución and the visit will end at the Plaza de San Francisco. Tour length will be around two hours.
At the end of the tour brochures will be distributed and the main characters will write your name in Arabic as a souvenir.

The solution:
Download the Salud Andalusia app

Select: Datos personales y verificación móvil

Document type and number* (NIE or Passport / others)

The information must match exactly the information on the system!
*Here’s where we had a problem. My document was a UK passport and it kept saying the information was incorrect without specifically identifying what was wrong. We checked with the local health centre and they informed us you need to add a 0 (zero) to the front of the 9 digit UK passport number! (how silly of us not to realise, haha). I understand there is not a problem when using your NIE as the identifying document – but you have to use whichever document they have on the system for you … in our case a UK passport.
Once the info is accepted as correct you’ll receive a text message with a code – enter code and hey presto you are in and you can download the certificate (although in my case it took a number of attempts).
Hope this helps others having difficulty.

Good morning from La Casa Hotel and Resturant in Torrox Pueblo.
This week from the 1st of July our opening times for our restaurant change to our summer hours and we will not open in the day time.
This will be for July and August as it is too hot on the terrace and we find most want to be a little bit cooler and head to the coast!
As you can appreciate due to continued travel restrictions most businesses in this sector are still not up to full strength, we will therefore only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings 7.pm until 10.30pm.
We have a fabulous new menu too with my favourites. Scallops making an appearance! Other dishes include our gourmet home made burgers, and yellow fin Sole with cava sauce. Our Restaurant is now back at our Hotel on our beautiful terrace on Calle Baja just off the main Plaza.
We cook all our food fresh to order and we restrict our numbers to just 20 so booking is advisable.

Covid Spain- Spain returns to 100 cumulative incidence cases after reporting 10,179 new positives since Friday: {Translation} Updated: 28 jun 2021, 18:40

-The rest of the territories are at medium risk (between 50 and 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days).
DEATHS
-Of the 32 deaths in the last seven days, 14 have been reported in Andalusia, 3 in the Canary Islands and another 3 in Castile and Leon. Asturias remains the region with the highest fatality rate in the pandemic (3.7%), while the national rate is 2.1%.
HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS AND DISCHARGES

Only three autonomous regions exceed 10% of covid patients in their intensive care units: Madrid (14.5%), Catalonia (11.1%) and La Rioja (11.3%). DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
-Spain has carried out 46,257,190 diagnostic tests since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 34,044,503 are PCR and 12,212,687 antigen tests. -The rate of Covid in the province of Malaga has shot up almost 12 points after the weekend and stands at 170.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 158.6 last Friday, according to data updated on Monday on the website of the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). The balance also leaves nearly 300 more infections, corresponding to the last two days.
-In the case of the incidence, this exceeds that of 4 June, which was the day on which the province entered high risk by exceeding 150 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants by one tenth of a point. In this time, Malaga has not only worsened its numbers, but has now exceeded the Andalusian average.
