COVID-19

Covid Andalucia News- Andalusia records zero deaths by Covid for the first time in months: {Translation} Updated: 01/07/2021, 18:14
-Andalusia has recorded zero deaths from Covid on Thursday. Not a single death in the last 24 hours, something that has not happened for months and which, although it is unlikely to remain so in the coming days, marks a milestone in the pandemic and also demonstrates that the vaccines against the coronavirus work.
-The number of deaths fluctuates from day to day, but it has been months since zero deaths were recorded. However, yesterday, Wednesday, 21 deaths were recorded, one of the highest in months. This makes it easier to understand the evolution of this variable when compared week by week.
-So far this week there are 31 deaths. Last week there were 21; the week before, 38; the week before that, 46; and the week before that, 53. The figures have been falling every seven days but this week there seems to be a slight upturn.
-However, the region also has one of the worst Covid-19 infection figures in months. On Thursday, Andalusia recorded 1,689 positive results, the worst figure for a day like today since the end of April.
-As a result of these infection figures, the cumulative incidence of the pandemic in Andalusia has risen three points this Thursday. From 163 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants a fortnight ago to 166, which moves away the objective of the Board of lowering 150 points for next Tuesday, when the committee of experts meets and decides whether the community advances in the de-escalation plan.
-But, it should be noted, this increase in infections and cumulative incidence is not reflected in hospital pressure. On the contrary, the data presented by the Regional Ministry of Health and Families show that the number of hospitalised patients has fallen by one more, today there are 512.
-Although the number has not yet fallen below 500 – the second objective of the Health Department to move on to phase two of de-escalation – it is more than likely that this number will be reached in the next few days. In the ICUs, meanwhile, there has also been a decrease. There are now 119 Andalusians in intensive care by Covid-19, the lowest figure since last September. Covid Spain News- Incidence rate soars more than 70 points among young people with worst daily infection rate since February: {Translation, summary} Updated: July 1, 2021 18:55
-The incidence rate of 14 days has marked a new rise this Thursday to reach the 134,31 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a jump of 17 points compared to Wednesday. The curve continues to rise since last week, when it reached a floor in 92 cases.
-However, rates soar among the youth. The group of 20 to 29, has an incidence of 366,74 cases and 12 to 19, of 345,26.

Covid Spain News- Incidence rises 17 points on a day in which the Health Department reports 12,345 new positives and 8 deaths: {Translation} Updated: 01 July 2021, 19:05.
-The Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported 12,345 new cases of covid-19 confirmed by diagnostic tests, of which 6,378 have been diagnosed in the last 24 hours.
-The total number of infections in Spain now stands at 3,821,305 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 134.31, compared to 117.17 yesterday. A total of 63,732 positives have been recorded in the past two weeks.
-Eight new deaths have been added in Thursday’s report. As many as 80,883 people with a positive diagnostic test have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to data compiled by the ministry. In the last week, 53 people with a confirmed positive COVID-19 diagnosis have died in Spain.
-Currently, there are 2,357 patients admitted for COVID-19 in Spain (2,375 yesterday) and 584 in ICU (601 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 282 admissions (316 yesterday) and 345 discharges (324 yesterday). The occupancy rate for coronavirus occupied beds stands at 1.94 per cent (1.95 per cent yesterday) and in ICUs at 6.38 per cent (6.52 per cent yesterday).
-For its part, the ministry headed by Carolina Darias has registered eight new deaths due to the virus, which means 53 deaths in the last seven days. These latest figures bring the total number of deaths in Spain since the beginning of the pandemic to 80,883. WhatsApp Vax Hoax- The hoax regarding the vaccination of younger people in Andalusia: {Translation}
-It is not true that vaccination of those over 18 years of age will take place this July in Andalusia. At least for now, the image that has been circulating in WhatsApp groups with a vaccination schedule with dates for immunising young people born from 2003 onwards is false.
-This has been corroborated by the Regional Ministry of Health, which has denied that this supposed calendar with age ranges that go down to those born in 2003 is real. As confirmed by the Ministry of Health, for the moment there are no new age brackets for vaccination, which in Andalusia is now for those over 36 years of age, those born in 1985 and earlier. Tennis News- Wimbledon Thursday Summary:
-American teenager Coco Gauff beat Russian Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-3 in the second round on Thursday.
– Nick Kyrgios showed he remains one of the game’s great entertainers as he breezed into the Wimbledon third round with a 7-6(7) 6-4 6-4 win over Gianluca Mager on Thursday.
-On Thursday eight-time champion Roger Federer got his old sparkle back on Centre Court to eclipse Richard Gasquet and move serenely into round three.
It was not quite vintage Federer, but the 7,500 fans packed around his favourite court did not care as the Swiss gave them plenty to ooh and aah about in a 7-6(1) 6-1 6-4 victory.
-British teenager Emma Raducanu clinched the biggest win of her young career by beating Marketa Vondrousova to march on to the third round at Wimbledon. The 18-year-old, who sat her A-Levels just two months ago, overcame her Czech opponent 6-2 6-4 having been a late wild card entry into the tournament.

130 countries back deal on global minimum tax for companies: Some 130 countries have agreed on a global minimum tax backed by U.S. President Joe Biden as part of a worldwide effort to keep multinational firms from dodging taxes by shifting their profits to countries with low rates.
The deal calls for a global minimum tax of at least 15%, a key element pushed by Biden as he seeks to raise more revenue for his infrastructure and clean energy plans. There are still technical details that need to be worked out and it would be at least 2023 before the agreement takes effect.
The agreement, announced by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, also provides for taxing part of the profits the largest global companies in countries where they do business online but may have no physical presence.
