COVID-19

Andalucía registers the highest daily number of Covid infections since April, with 2,007 cases: Updated: 2 July 2021, 13:24
-Andalucía has, this Friday (2 July), registered the highest number of daily coronavirus infections since April, adding 2,007 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
-The data also shows five deaths, after no deaths were recorded on Thursday; two were recorded in Seville, one in Almeria, one in Malaga and another in Huelva.
-The cumulative incidence rate of the region has risen for the second consecutive day, after dropping for 12 days, and stands at 173.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, some 7.1 points more in a day and 8.2 points more than a week ago.
-The 2,007 cases in the last 24 hours are registered after the 1,689 positives on Thursday.
-By provinces, Malaga is again the one with the most cases with 552, followed by Seville with 336, Granada with 306, Cadiz with 247, Cordoba with 205, Jaén with 186, Huelva with 89 and Almeria with 86.

Covid rate in Malaga rises 16.1 points in one day and the number of cases is the worst in five months: {Translation}
Updated: 02 Julio, 2021, 12:53
-Covid continues to hit the province of Malaga. This Friday has left more than half a thousand new cases in just one day, a figure that is practically the worst in the last five months. The rate also climbs more than 16 points in just one day in the province and almost 23 in the capital. Although with almost a hundred patients hospitalised with the virus, the pressure of care is twelve times less than at the beginning of February – when there were more than 1,000 people admitted at provincial level – the incidence shows that we cannot lower our guard. The daily report also leaves another death and nine more hospitalised with Covid 19 in the last few hours.
-The Consejería de Salud y Familias reports that 552 new infections have been recorded. Not since 13 February, when 700 positives were reported had so many infections been detected in the province of Malaga. Since the pandemic began, 107,628 cases have been diagnosed in this territory.
-The provincial rate is now 197.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is 16.1 points higher than the previous day, when it stood at 181.1. It is therefore above the regional rate, which is 173.4 and which is also increasing, as on Thursday it was 163.3; 10.1 points more. But where it increases the most is in the city of Malaga. It has risen by 22.9 given that it was 182.0 the previous day and now stands at 204.9 positive per 100,000 inhabitants. All these indicators place the community, the province and the capital of Malaga at a high risk level for the spread of Covid. This range is between more than 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a figure equal to or less than 250.
-The pressure on health care is easing slightly. On Thursday there were 90 patients admitted and now there are 82. Of these patients, 13 are in an ICU. In the last few hours another nine hospitalisations have been registered. So the cumulative number of admissions of Covid patients in the province is 8,392. Of these, 803 have required intensive care due to their seriousness. There is another death, which brings the total number of fatalities with the pathogen in Malaga since March 2020 to 1,675.
-In the last day, the Regional Ministry has notified 66 new cases. A figure that is not exactly positive as the number of new infections – the aforementioned 552 – is eight times higher. Since the outbreak of the health crisis, 102,695 people with the virus have been discharged in the province of Malaga.
-Vaccination continues to add up. Since the end of December, almost 1.5 million doses have been administered in the province of Malaga. Exactly 1,497,604 doses have been administered. There are 636,102 people who have completed the vaccination schedule, having received both doses. They represent 37.5% of the population of Malaga, although herd immunity to contain the spread of a virus requires the immunisation of around 70% of the population of a territory. The Axarquia doubles this week reported cases of coronavirus, with 150 cases: {Translation} Updated: July 2, 2021
-The region registers this Friday the worst data of the week with 38 positives, 13 of them in Rincón de la Victoria, and four people recovered from the disease.
-The Ministry of Health and Families of the Andalusian Regional Government has reported this Friday, July 2, 38 new cases of coronavirus infection in the Axarquia in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia. This is the highest figure for the whole week. The number of infections is slightly higher than the 37 reported on Thursday and is above the 24 on Wednesday, 16 on Tuesday and 35 on Monday, although in this case they correspond to a whole weekend.
-In total, 150 infections have been confirmed in the region this week, a figure much higher than the 88 infections recorded in the same period last week or the 119 detected a fortnight ago. This is the worst figure in the last six weeks. You would have to go back to the week of 17-21 May to find a higher number of infections (154). Moreover, no new deaths from the disease have been reported this Friday and 4 people recovered from COVID-19 must be added.
-On the other hand, there are 12 municipalities in Axarquia that have not registered cases of COVID-19 at least in the last 14 days. These are Alcaucín, Alfarnatejo, Árchez, Arenas, Canillas de Albaida, Comares, Cómpeta, Cútar, Iznate, Macharaviaya, Salares and Sedella.
-With regard to the new positives in the last 24 hours, 13 have been registered in Rincón de la Victoria; 8 in Vélez-Málaga and Nerja; 3 in Algarrobo; and 1 in Torrox, Almáchar, Colmenar, Riogordo, Sayalonga and Moclinejo.
-The total number of cases with active infection (PDIA) in the last 14 days in the Axarquia region is distributed as follows:
80 in Vélez-Málaga; 52 in Rincón de la Victoria; 41 in Nerja; 16 in Colmenar; 8 in Torrox; 5 in Algarrobo; 3 in Periana, Riogordo and Moclinejo; 2 in Almáchar, Benamocarra and Frigiliana; and 1 in Alfarnate, Benamargosa, Canillas de Aceituno, El Borge, La Viñuela, Sayalonga and Totalán.
-In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in the Axarquia region, 10,674 positive cases have been registered to date, of which 10,130 have been cured and 191 have died. MALAGA

Five speed traps around the Costa del Sol are among the most active in Spain: Five of the DGT’s radar traps in Malaga province have the dubious honour of being among the most active in Spain, and the eastern bypass around the provincial capital city, the A7, stands out on this ‘black list’, especially the device between the Cerrado de Calderón and El Palo exits. Last year it caught 48,771 drivers speeding, making it the number one in the country.
Others are
-the speed trap situated ten kilometres further east on the A7, but in the Malaga direction, shortly before the Rincón de la Victoria turning.
-the old western bypass (now the MA-20), a few metres before the Carlos Haya tunnel.
-two devices covering stretches of Las Pedrizas motorway (A-45) . Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202107/02/five-speed-traps-around-20210702104553-v.html

Granada bans access to the rivers of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama natural park to halt their deterioration: {Translation, first 2 paragraphs only} Updated: 2 July, 2021
-The Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) of this Friday has published a provision signed by the territorial delegate of the Regional Ministry of Sustainable Development in Granada, Manuel Francisco García, in which it is agreed to prohibit, “in the area of the natural park of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama, within the province of Granada, walking routes within all natural streams, continuous or discontinuous, except when they are part of a road that crosses them, Almijara and Alhama, in the province of Granada, to prohibit walking in all natural watercourses, whether continuous or discontinuous, except when they form part of a road that crosses them or traditionally runs through a section”, according to Diario SUR.
-This decision, which has been adopted to guarantee the conservation of these protected habitats, classified as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), excludes the currently authorised section, “with mandatory authorisation”, of the Los Chortales ravine, on the River Verde, on a route which begins some 900 metres from the Fuente de las Cabrerizas, following the signposted path. The section downstream of the river Cacín, from its confluence with the river Cebollón, at the height of the La Resinera complex, to its exit from the natural park, is also excluded. Delta variant sweeps Asia, prompting curbs as vaccination remains tepid: The highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus is surging through Asia this week, with record numbers of infections in Australia and South Korea, prompting some countries to tighten curbs and others to hasten vaccination.
The variant, first detected in India in December last year, has spread to about 100 countries and the World Health Organisation warned recently that it could soon become the dominant form of the virus. It is also driving a spike in cases in Japan, casting a pall over this month’s Olympic Games.
Indonesia, the world’s fourth-most populous country, imposed emergency measures that begin on Saturday until July 20 to contain a spike in cases. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/india/delta-variant-sweeps-asia-prompting-curbs-vaccination-remains-tepid-2021-07-02/
