Dreambeach 2021 Festival Suspended in Villaricos, Almeria: Sadly, the Dreambeach 2021 festival has been suspended in Villaricos, yet the event is still being advertised online. The Cuevas del Almanzora Town Council have given their approval to suspend both festivals and events of a cultural and social nature due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This means it will now be impossible for the 2021 Dreambeach festival to go ahead. The event had been planned from August 4 to August 8, and event organisers are still promoting the event on their website.
Dreambeach is one of the largest electronic musical festivals seen in Andalucia, and each year thousands of music lovers gather for the festival.

New increase in infections with Covid incidence rate at 178 cases in Andalusia: {Translation} Updated: 02/06/2021, 16:02

In Andalusian hospitals there are 840 Covid patients on Wednesday, 15 less than the day before. 206 of the total are critical in ICU, one less than the day before. Ministry authorises the Janssen vaccine for new age group in Spain, despite delivery delays: The Public Health Commission in Spain agreed on Tuesday, 1 June, to immediately authorise the use of Janssen single-dose vaccine for people between 40 and 49 years old (those born between 1972 and 1981), and their vaccination will start in the next few days once the decision is ratified by the Interterritorial Council this Wednesday.
The use of the Johnson & Johnson formula was previously vetoed for the under-50s but it threatened to slow down the national vaccination campaign.
Initially the Johnson & Johnson formula was reserved exclusively for the age group between 70 and 79 years after rare blood clots were detected in women between 18 and 48 years. After the immunisation of group aged 70 to 79 was almost completed, on 11 May it was authorised for the age range of 59 to 50 years. Consumer associations slam Spain’s new electricity billing system:
-A change in electricity rates went into effect on June 1 in Spain, one that could see consumers save on their bills, according to the competition watchdog CNMC. The new system is not without controversy, however, with consumer organizations denouncing the fact that the measures could hit the most vulnerable households with extra costs. And depending on what kind of contract the consumer had until now, the monthly bill could actually increase by as much as 27%, according to these groups.
-Facua-Consumers in Action organization claims that asking customers to use their appliances at night is “degrading” for the most vulnerable consumers. “You can’t make the consumer responsible for their bill being high just because they haven’t done the ironing or put their appliances on during the cheapest periods,” Facua states. “These times coincide with when people should be getting some rest.” (Will your neighbors tolerate you running your clothes washer for a few loads after midnight? -Ed.) The Government’s refusal to lower the VAT of the power tariffs, contrary to the indications of Brussels: {Translation}

The EU is set to unveil plans for a bloc-wide digital wallet for IDs, payments and passwords: The app will allow citizens across the EU to securely access a range of private and public services with a single online ID, according to a report by the Financial Times newspaper on Tuesday.
The digital wallet will securely store payment details and passwords and allow citizens from all 27 countries to log onto local government websites or pay utility bills using a single recognised identity, the newspaper said, citing people with direct knowledge of the plans.
The EU-wide app can be accessed via fingerprint or retina scanning among other methods, and will also serve as a vault where users can store official documents like the driver’s licence, the newspaper reported.
Use of the digital wallet will not be mandatory but those who did sign up would benefit from an extra-secure digital presence and flexibility, those involved with the project told the FT. CANCELLED– Torre del Mar Weekend Beach festival postponed for second year running: The organisers of the festival have had to take the decision not to go ahead with the festival in 2021. The organisers have announced provisional dates for the festival; from 6 to 9 July 2022 and have said that tickets bought for the 2020 event will still be valid. Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.

Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta- WHO officially names the different COVID-19 variants of concern: The WHO says it came up with the new labels after several months of discussion and criticism regarding some nations being stigmatized for being identified with the newly discovered strains.
Here’s how the new names will be applied:
-Variant B.1.1.7, which first emerged from the United Kingdom, will be known as Alpha.
-Variant B.1.351, which was first detected in South Africa last May, will be known as Beta.
-Gamma will be used to refer to P.1, the variant first detected in Brazil last November.

Spain supports an electricity VAT of 21%, one of the highest in the European Union: Run the washing machine at dawn or during the weekend to save at the end of the month. Cryptocurrency Related Scams Flood Tribunals in Spain: Spanish tribunals have been flooded lately with lawsuits involving cryptocurrency scams related to bitcoin and ethereum based platforms, and the people using these to scam other users for millions of euros.
One of the biggest scams reported is associated with a company named Algorithms Group, which scammed more than 280 million euros from 300+ investors.
Nimbus, another investment-based Ponzi scheme, is estimated to have defrauded 136 million euros from more than 4,000 investors in the country. The company, which also operated internationally, offered returns to investors for their deposits in cryptocurrencies.
Other important companies that are facing similar trials are Kuailian and Arbistar 2.0, both Ponzi schemes that also face money laundering charges.

Andalucia Announces Over 60 Million Euros Investment In New Cybersecurity Centre: The Minister of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, Elías Bendodo, has announced the creation of the Andalusian Cybersecurity Centre. Summer Sunday shopping hours extended for six Costa del Sol towns: Stores in six coastal towns, mainly in the western part of the Costa del Sol, will be allowed to open seven days a week from 1 June to 30 September as they attempt to recover trade lost to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shops, department stores and retail parks in Marbella, Fuengirola, Estepona, Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Nerja may open every day of the week, between those dates, including Sundays and public holidays.
Manilva, Mijas and Rincón de la Victoria will have to wait until 1 July for their summer Sunday shopping to start.

Association of Guides organise routes around the city for the people of Granada on the occasion of Corpus Christi: {Translation} The Granada City Council – through the Albaicín Foundation – and the Association of Heritage Guides and Interpreters (AGIP) have organised guided tours of the city for this Corpus Christi “so that the people of Granada can take advantage of the opportunity to learn about our rich heritage from these magnificent professionals”. Can I travel from the UK to Spain through France despite the new restrictions?: {Full article} Updated June 1st, 2021.
-France is bringing in tough new restrictions on arrivals from the UK over fears of the so-called Indian variant of Covid – 19, but what about people who just want to pass through France on their way to Spain?
-Question: I am planning to drive to Spain from the UK and obviously that involves going through France – do the new French travel rules apply to me if I am only passing through?
-From Monday, May 31st, France is tightening up entry requirements for arrivals from the UK, following in the footsteps of Germany and Austria as European countries become increasingly concerned about circulation of the ‘Indian variant’ of Covid in the UK.
-The new travel rules have three parts:
-Travellers need a vital reason to enter France. You can find the full list of vital reasons HERE but the criteria are strict and require documentary proof. Travel to second homes and to visit family and friends is not accepted as a vital reason. This rule does not apply to French citizens, citizens of another EU country or people who have their permanent residence in France.
-Travellers must show a negative Covid test at the border taken within the previous 48 hours (a change from the 72 hour requirement). This can be either a PCR or an antigen test. This applies to everyone, including French and EU citizens and permanent residents of France.
-Travellers must self-isolate for seven days on arrival, although there will be no police checks to enforce this. This applies to everyone including French and EU citizens and residents.
**So what’s the situation if you are just passing through?**
-If you are returning to your permanent residence in another EU or Schengen zone country then you can travel, as one of the listed ‘vital reasons’ is returning home. You will, however, need to show some proof of your residency, ideally a residency card.
-If you are travelling for another reason you can travel through France, provided you spend less than 24 hours in the country.
-The testing requirement applies to all arrivals, even if you are only passing through France, but if you spend less than 24 hours in the country you are not required to quarantine.
-You will also need to check the rules in your destination country on arrivals from France. If you are entering France from an EU or Schengen zone country you will need to show a negative Covid test taken within the previous 72 hours and this must be a PCR test. You can enter France for any reason from an EU/Schengen country.
-And yes, these rules all apply even to the fully vaccinated.

HOW TO UNDERSTAND A BILL

Three OCU recommendations for saving on the new electricity bill: {Translation}
-This Tuesday, 1 June, the new electricity tariffs come into force and will directly or indirectly affect all users. The Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) warns that these new tariffs can be an opportunity to reduce your electricity bill or a risk that your bill will go up if you are not careful.

-The OCU reminds us that another saving possibility offered by these tariffs is to have two contracted power ratings. Each kW contracted for peak and off-peak hours costs €30.67 per year (plus taxes), while the cost of one kW contracted for off-peak hours is €1.42 per year.
-Therefore, a home with 4.4 kW contracted for the whole day will pay €180 per year for the fixed part of the bill. On the other hand, if the daytime power is reduced to 3.3 kW and 4.4 kW is maintained only during off-peak hours (nights, weekends and holidays) at night, you will pay 137 euros per year for the fixed term. However, this possibility will depend on the equipment of each home. From 1 June, consumers should start to receive information on power peaks on their bills, so they will be able to assess whether or not it is advisable to reduce their power.
*Compare and contract a good tariff*
-The OCU points out that for the more than 10 million households that have contracted the regulated PVPC price, these times and prices will be automatically transferred to their next bill. On the other hand, for the more than 16 million households that are in the free market, there are hundreds of different electricity tariffs and in each one of them the commercialization companies are free to adapt in a different way.

UEFA requires vaccine or a negative test for Covid to see the matches of the European Championship in Sevilla: {Translation}

Campo crime: I was interested to read Sue’s account on Saturday about potential thieves in the campo.
In Pago Manzano Alto the very old car parked outside our neighbour’s holiday home was broken into. The wires under the dashboard were pulled out but eventually they only got away with the battery. They had also attempted to enter the house and had tried to drill out the front door lock unsuccessfully.
We are usually very vigilant and have been noticing many more strange cars driving around in this area of the campo this year. We never saw or heard anything going on at the neighbour’s house, so are not sure when the crime occurred next door. It was obviously an unattended holiday home as the gardener had not been and maintained the garden, so it did look rather abandoned. We have walked around and checked the house from outside at times but the damage was not apparent until we tried to get their key into the lock to put their fridge on before their planned visit earlier this month.

Warning – Strangers in the Campo: Our neighbours in Torrox Campo, off the Frigiliana Road, have had a strange thing happen today. Their gardener arrived this am. We then had a call from our neighbour saying his security camera had alerted him of intruders, and he watched as his gardener had been taken off his guard when a woman on foot, no car in sight, appeared with a bunch of flowers in her hand. She had a camera and said she was taking photos of the house as it was going on the market, and would he let her inside to take more photos. Of course he said no, and knew it was a scam.
She spoke Spanish our neighbour could hear this going on, he could see her taking photos and of the new camera as well.
Just thought I’d warn you in case you see anything similar going on.
Hate that these awful people who are wandering around the campo.
Makes me feel very unsettled. We always thought they wouldn’t come this far off the main road. How naive was I?

-Andalusia will be a testing ground for the Covid passport being prepared and coordinated by the European Union. This pioneering project, which is being developed in several Spanish regions, aims to “test the suitability” of these digital vaccination certificates against the coronavirus.
-Sources from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families told ABC that the new health passport will begin to be issued in the second week of June to all those who have completed the vaccination schedule with any of the medicines being administered.
-This will be carried out between 7 and 10 June and around 9 June the new certificate could be issued to those who have completed the vaccination schedule.
-Andalusia has an application, Diraya, to record in its clinical history the vaccination given to each person. Help with Covid vaccination: Hi Digamites, looking for advice on getting covid jab: I am resident, age 64 (plus husband age 60) both with private health insurance. Have registered for jab at Torrox Pueblo Health Centre with all the appropriate paperwork over 6 weeks ago but have heard nothing. Have visited to chase up but told its not the time yet. We’re very confused as to when we’ll get it. We have also checked on Salud Responde app which says we do not meet the criteria yet. Anyone in the same situation? Anyone have advice? Health reproaches the communities for not complying with the agreements after the chaos with the second doses of AstraZeneca: The Ministry of Health has asked the autonomous communities to go all together, “giving the same information” to citizens, and that we all “respect the agreements of the Interterritorial Council and the Public Health Commission.”
The matter concerns the chaos generated with the second dose of those under 60 who were administered a first COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca / Oxford- the Ministry advocates that the second be from Pfizer / BioNTech. It was able to approve it by majority in the Public Health Commission, but some communities reject it and have recommended that their citizens opt for AstraZeneca through an informed consent of the risks. Easyjet Issues Statement After Cancelling Majority Of Flights: easyJet has issued a statement after telling customers on social media that “the majority” of its flights are being cancelled due to ongoing problems caused by the coronavirus crisis.

Renfe Adds Eleven New Trains Connecting Andalucian Cities: {Translation}
-Renfe will be restoring new services from 31 May on Avant services between Seville and Cordoba, Malaga and Granada, as well as the Media Distancia service to Cadiz. With the incorporation of these trains, the offer on the three corridors has been restored to between 75 and 85% of what it was before the health alert.
-On the Avant Sevilla-Córdoba-Málaga service, three new trains will be added to reinforce the last-minute service between Seville and the capital of Malaga, as well as from Seville to Cordoba at the end of the day. From Monday onwards, twelve trains will be running on this route on working days, thus increasing the service to 85% of the usual pre-Covid service.
-The timetables from 31 May onwards are as follows: departures from Seville at 6.50am; 8.00am; 12.45pm; 3.30pm and 7.35pm; while departures from Malaga will be at 6.45am; 9.10am; 2.15pm; 6.20pm and 8.13pm. In addition, there will be a Seville-Cordoba, departing at 21.35 and a Cordoba-Seville, at 6.50.
-The Avant Seville-Córdoba-Granada service will have two more trains, one in each direction, from Monday onwards, making it possible to replace 75% of the usual daily service on this route before the health alert.

PCR/Antigen Lateral Flow Tests: I think I saw a note on DigameXtra maybe six or more weeks ago, telling readers that there are PCR/Antigen Lateral Flow Test clinics at Malaga Airport and in Torrox; I can’t find the article, so if anyone knows of clinics/testing places in Torrox (or between Torrox and Torre del Mar) where I could get one of the above tests before I travel by ferry to England in July, could you reply to me by email.
The booking website at Malaga Airport is only set up to allow me to enter a flight number, not a ferry booking.

-Andalusia recorded a new rise in the number of Covid infections on Wednesday, with 1,264 positives compared to 1,011 the previous day. The figure is 120 more positive than on the same day last week. The statistics also show eight deaths due to the coronavirus, half of those recorded seven days ago.
-By provinces, Seville has the most positives, with 405, followed by Granada with 214, Malaga with 211, Huelva with 127 and Jaen with 101. Below a hundred are Cadiz with 97, Cordoba with 75 and Almeria with 34.
-The evolution of the fourth wave continues, however, in a plateau phase as evidenced by the static behaviour of the incidence rate which remains at 164 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, dropping only a few tenths with Tuesday’s record. The 7-day rate has dropped somewhat further today to 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
-By provinces, Huelva enters the extreme alert level rate by exceeding 251 cases today. Together with Seville (219) and Malaga (126), these are the provinces where the 14-day rate has risen. Granada (230) and Jaén (209) are also above 200 cases.
-In seven days the cumulative incidence rate improves and in no province does it represent more than half of the two-week rate. In this indicator, Huelva has 115 cases and Almería, currently the province with the lowest incidence, has 35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Better data in hospitals
-In view of the progressive advance of vaccination, the data on the pressure of Covid incidence in hospitals is now a key to a more objective analysis of the evolution of the pandemic. In this case it is much more favourable than when analysing infections in isolation. The number of hospitalised Covid patients has dropped significantly on Wednesday, with 22 fewer patients. There are 877 admitted with Covid, of which 223 are being treated in the ICU, 19 less than on Tuesday.
-This data puts the percentage of conventional beds occupied by ICU patients below 5 percent of the total, a record that defines a low alert level situation. The number of ICU patients is close to the 10 percent that marks this low alert level.
-Seville, with 249 hospital admissions and 69 ICU patients, is the province with the greatest pressure of care, followed by Granada, with 175 admissions and 52 ICU patients. Almería is the province with the fewest hospitalised patients (42) and Huelva has the fewest ICU patients in its hospitals (5).

-With regard to the progress of the Vaccination Plan, 1,458,201 Andalusians have been immunised, having received the two doses of the Covid vaccine as of 25 May. This represents 20.64 percent of the population over the age of 16. Andalusia has administered 4,337,615 doses, 95.89 percent of those received as of yesterday.

Detailed schedule announced for age groups yet to receive Covid jabs in Andalucía: This was declared at a press conference by the regional government’s spokesperson, Elías Bendodo, who announced that June will be “a key month for vaccination” in the region.
And he gave dates: “In June we will vaccinate the group aged between 40 and 50 years old and from 7 July we will begin to vaccinate those under 40 years old.”
Hours before, the president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, also outlined the public health authority’s objective to start the vaccination of the 50 and 51 year olds during the first week of June while the following week is “scheduled those under 50”, he revealed.
In addition, since this Tuesday 52 and 53 year olds have been able to make an appointment to receive their first dose of the vaccine.

State weather agency is forecasting rainfall in Malaga province on Thursday: Experts says it could be ‘muddy’.

The new Electricity tariff 2.0TD, from 1 June:
(Note: This is a reader submission. This tariff change has been difficult to get accurate, updated info on, as covered in the May 18 & 19 issues of DigameXtra. For info regarding your own situation always consult directly with the supplier. -Ed.)
-With precious little advanced publicity from either Government or the Electricity suppliers, most domestic consumers will be move on to this new tariff for their electricity, from 1 June.

2.0TD replaces the previous 2.0 & 2.1 DHA (high/low periods) and DHS (high/medium/low) billing plans, and is being marketed as simpler. There are, however a few things to watch with this change:
-The new tariff works on the same time-slots for both summer and winter. Watch it! This doesn’t mean that you can just program any time switches you have (for things like water heating, pool-pumping, dish-washing…) and forget about them. The cheapest weekday period (night-time 00:00 to 08:00) will stay as that throughout the year, but while the twice-yearly clock-changing is still happening (under review), we must assume that Endesa etc will shift their meter clocks too.
-So, if you set the actual time on your time switch, and just forget about it, you could find that your usage no longer slots completely within the chosen (cheaper) time slot.
Remedy: Allow a margin of at least an hour at each end of the cheap slot, and don’t go up to the limits of 00:00 and 08:00 etc. That way, the slot can move around by an hour with the seasons, and you won’t need to re-time your switch/appliance.
-Overall good news?
The pricing hasn’t (that I’m aware) been announced yet, and it’s up to the separate energy companies to price their tariff slots. Endesa are rumoured to have come out with a lowered price for peak (punta) periods, but are also rumoured to have wound up the cost of the plano and valle units. No figures yet (that I know) for potencia charges. We’ll have to wait and see.
Valle pricing for all weekends (and national holidays) is welcome, and simple.
However, the morning plano slot (08:00-10:00) is very short, and may be difficult to take advantage of (eg for the morning washing and drying).
-Your smart meter
Smart meters will be getting re-programmed for 2.0TD, and will display the three unit totals, P1 P2 and P3, for the three time slots.
Not unknown for Endesa to make mistakes with meter timing (presumably unintentionally), so might be worth checking now and again that the right slot shows as “active” at the correct time. Getting any billing corrected is a mammoth task, as mistakes are almost never acknowledged.

De-escalation in three stages and four phases of alert: Andalusia’s two Covid plans: {Translation} Updated: 25/05/2021 12:48
-The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, announced on Tuesday that the committee of experts advising the Andalusian government will not finally meet this week, as planned, but next week in order to analyse more data on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region.
-This meeting was to allow Andalusia to move on to phase 2 of the de-escalation plan designed by the Junta for the transition to normality after the vaccination process against the coronavirus. As announced by Moreno, the plan envisaged three phases.
-Andalusia is currently in the first of these phases. This is what the Junta called the “stabilisation” phase because it is intended to be the time when the figures for the fourth wave of the pandemic stabilise and fall to levels close to those of last summer, when the incidence was very low.
-This stabilisation phase was to last from 9 May – when the state of alert ended – until 31 May, i.e. next week. But the evolution of the pandemic data, with the accumulated incidence stagnating at around 160 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, has led the Andalusian government to put the brakes on the move to the next phase.
-Thus, the “advance” phase, which was to begin on 1 June and reach the 20th of that month, will not begin at the beginning of next month. It is delayed until at least the second week of June. This may lead – and this is not an extreme that has been explained so far – to a delay in the rest of the dates. In other words, the normalisation phase, which is supposed to start on 21 June and is normal as it was known before the pandemic, could in turn be delayed by a week.
*Health alerts*
-Parallel to this – which may lead to some confusion – are the health alert levels. That is to say, regardless of the phase of de-escalation and in accordance with various criteria – contagions, hospitalisation, positivity rate, ICU occupancy, etc. – the health districts and areas can be at different levels between 1 and 4.
-Each level, in this case, entails a different set of restrictions and capacities. The higher the level of alert, the greater the restrictions. Thus, Seville is at level 3, the Costa del Sol at level 1 and Cordoba at level 2.
-In this way, there are two parallel processes containing the pandemic. On the one hand, the health alert level, which goes from 1 to 4 and reduces the capacity and opening hours of shops and restaurants. And on the other, the de-escalation plan, with three phases, which aims to culminate this summer with a return to normality.
-The first process is led by the Junta de Andalucía and advised by the committee of experts. The second, also led by the Andalusian government, is advised by the provincial health committees. The first has been delayed by a week; the second will meet normally and without delay.

La Axarquía registered only 6 cases of coronavirus infection on Tuesday: {Translation} Updated: 25May
-The region now has 21 days without deaths from the disease.
-The Consejería de Salud y Familias de la Junta de Andalucía has informed this Tuesday, 25th May, of only 6 new infections by coronavirus in the Axarquía in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Instituto de Estadística y Cartografía de Andalucía (Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography). This is one of the best data since the beginning of the pandemic, clearly below the 39 infections reported on Monday with respect to the whole weekend. In addition, no new deaths have been reported this day, making 21 days – since last Tuesday 4 May – with no deaths due to COVID-19 in Axarquia. On the other hand, this Tuesday we have to add 8 people recovered from the disease.
-With regard to the new positives in the last 24 hours, 4 have been registered in Nerja and 2 in Vélez-Málaga.
-As for the people who have overcome the disease, 7 have been reported in Vélez-Málaga and 1 in Rincón de la Victoria.
-The total number of cases with active infection (AIDP) in the last 14 days in the Axarquia region is distributed as follows:
94 in Vélez-Málaga; 70 in Rincón de la Victoria; 17 in Nerja; 11 in Algarrobo, Periana and Riogordo; 9 in Torrox; 8 in Benamocarra and Frigiliana; 7 in Sayalonga; 6 in Almáchar; 5 in Benamargosa; 4 in Colmenar; 2 in La Viñuela; and 1 in Moclinejo and Totalán.
-This Tuesday it has also been reported that the Junta de Andalucía has postponed the meeting of the committee of experts which was initially scheduled for this Thursday and in which new measures aimed at relaxing the restrictions in force to curb the advance of the infection were expected. The postponement to next week comes after the Regional Ministry of Health and Families recorded an increase in the incidence of the virus in the community.
-Regarding the vaccination process, it has been announced that people born in 1968 and 1969 can make an appointment for the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 from today at ClicSalud+, through the mobile application and Salud Responde (955 54 50 60) or at their health centre.
-In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in the Axarquia region, 10,063 positive cases have been registered to date, of which 9,436 have been officially cured and 188 have died.

IRS Wants Tools for Cracking Crypto Wallets: As more people across the globe get into trading and purchasing goods using cryptocurrencies—even the federal government—the IRS’s Criminal Investigations division wants “reliable” tools and processes for cracking crypto wallets.
The Digital Forensics Unit of the IRS is interested in purchasing tools capable of cracking crypto wallets, the IRS also wants to help “mature the process” to “obtain reliable results.”
“The explicit outcome of this requirement is to tame the cybersecurity research into measured, repeatable, consistent digital forensics processes that can be trained and followed in a digital forensics’ laboratory,” contracting officials wrote. “The tools and processes should be usable for any crypto wallet on the market, including software and hardware models.”
