Recommendations & Requests

Campo crime: I was interested to read Sue’s account on Saturday about potential thieves in the campo.
In Pago Manzano Alto the very old car parked outside our neighbour’s holiday home was broken into. The wires under the dashboard were pulled out but eventually they only got away with the battery. They had also attempted to enter the house and had tried to drill out the front door lock unsuccessfully.
We are usually very vigilant and have been noticing many more strange cars driving around in this area of the campo this year. We never saw or heard anything going on at the neighbour’s house, so are not sure when the crime occurred next door. It was obviously an unattended holiday home as the gardener had not been and maintained the garden, so it did look rather abandoned. We have walked around and checked the house from outside at times but the damage was not apparent until we tried to get their key into the lock to put their fridge on before their planned visit earlier this month.

COVID-19

Those hospitalized for Covid in Andalusia fall below 800 for the first time since last summer: {Translation} Updated: 30/05/2021, 15:01
-Andalusia has this Sunday 784 hospitalised by Covid-19, the lowest figure since last summer. In addition, these less than 800 hospitalised patients reported by the Regional Ministry of Health and Families means that the community is down after having increased yesterday in hospitalised patients, breaking a trend of weeks.
-The drop, which has been sustained for more than a month, means that the community now has half the number of hospitalised patients that it had at the peak of the fourth wave when, at the end of April, Andalusia had more than 1,590 admitted for Covid-19.
-There is also good news in the ICUs. From 220 hospitalised in intensive care yesterday (Saturday), the number has now fallen to 211. The community, which had more than 500 ICU patients in the third wave of the pandemic and more than 300 in the fourth, has managed to reduce the number of occupied intensive care beds by more than a third.
-And all this is happening largely because the vaccination process is progressing at a good pace. In fact, Andalusia is already heading towards five million doses administered, according to the Regional Ministry of Health and Families.
-Although there are no detailed data available this Sunday due to technical problems, the accumulated data of the vaccination process shows that all Andalusians over 80 years of age are already immunised. The same is true for 90 percent of those over 70. And those in the 50 to 60 age group have at least one dose in 60 percent of cases. The Junta defends the “freedom” of citizens to choose the second dose of AstraZeneca or Pfizer: {Translation}
-The Minister of the Presidency and spokesman for the Andalusian Government, Elías Bendodo, has defended this Saturday the “freedom” of Andalusians who have been vaccinated with a first dose of AstraZeneca to choose between a second dose of the same vaccine or Pfizer.
-“Freedom, that is what we have done in Andalusia. The two vaccines are perfectly endorsed by the Spanish and European Medicines Agencies and by the World Health Organisation,” said Bendodo, speaking to journalists in Malaga, where he indicated that citizens who have had the first dose of AstraZeneca are “free” to have the second dose of either AstraZeneca or Pfizer.
-He also pointed out that the Andalusian government, at the request of the Ministry of Health, will present citizens who are going to be vaccinated with the second dose with a document of consent for them to sign if they wish, because it is not obligatory. “Anyone who does not want to sign it, will not sign it, and will be vaccinated perfectly well,” he said. For Elías Bendodo, what a government should do is speak clearly and not create “any kind of uncertainty, and the Ministry should give freedom”.
-In his opinion, if you can be vaccinated with either of the two vaccines, obviously, the citizen should be able to choose and he pointed out that we are seeing how the majority of the population is following the pattern of if they have started with AstraZeneca, continue with the same vaccine in the second dose. Bendodo also indicated that yesterday, Friday, a new vaccination record was broken in Andalusia, as for the first time the number of vaccines administered in a single day exceeded 100,000, with a total of 101,597. Vietnam identifies a highly contagious new coronavirus variant with strains from the UK and India: The Vietnamese Health Ministry announced on Saturday that scientists have determined the new variant has traces of strains from both the United Kingdom and India, VnExpress reported.

COVID-19 ‘has NO credible natural ancestor’ and WAS created by Chinese scientists explosive new study claims: The shocking allegations in the study include accusations of ‘deliberate destruction, concealment or contamination of data’ at Chinese labs, and it notes the silencing and disappearance of scientists in the communist country who spoke out.
The journal article, exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com and slated for publication in the coming days, is set to make waves among the scientific community, as the majority of experts have until recently staunchly denied the origins of COVID-19 were anything other than a natural infection leaping from animals to humans. Savings on electricity bills will be possible from 1 June:
-Householders in Spain will be wise to keep an eye on the time when using domestic appliances from 1 June, as changes which come into effect on that date could mean lower bills if electrical items are used outside peak hours. Even people who make no changes at all could benefit from a reduction of 3.4 per cent, which for an average bill of 60 euros would be a saving of a couple of euros, according to the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC).
-The days will be divided into three consumption periods: peak, which is the most expensive, between 10am and 2pm and from 6pm to 10pm; flat, from 8am to 10am, 2pm to 6pm and 10pm to midnight; and low, which is the cheapest, between midnight and 8am, and also weekends and public holidays.
-However, there are some ‘buts’ to this new scheme. First, consumers who are already on the nighttime tariff will be charged two euros a month more. Second, people will need to change their habits to gain the most benefit. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202105/28/savings-electricity-bills-will-20210528101344-v.html

ANDALUCIA

The registration period for Infant, Primary and Special Education opens this Tuesday in Andalusia: {Translation} Updated 29May21
-The enrollment period for the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education in Andalusia opens on Tuesday 1 June, according to the Regional Ministry of Education and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía in a press release.
-All students at these levels must formalise their enrollment for the next academic year 2021/2022, by filling in the form provided by the school itself or which can be downloaded from the Junta’s schooling portal. https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/educacion/portals/web/escolarizacion
-The Regional Ministry of Education and Sport is also opening the deadline for the first cycle of Infant Education (from zero to three years old). Thus, families will be able to enrol their children telematically through the Virtual Secretary’s Office, and this year, for the first time, it has been extended to the first cycle of Infant Education.
-Through this tool implemented by the Regional Ministry of Education and Sport, enrollment can be managed via computer (or any other device) without having to go to the educational centres.
-This virtual procedure also allows for enrollment in the complementary services of the school canteen, morning classes and extracurricular activities, as well as authorising the use of images.
-The deadline for enrollment for the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education is 8 June and until 10 June for children up to three years of age.
-The Regional Ministry has offered a total of 1,441,007 places for the next academic year 2021/2022. For three-year-old students, who are joining the education system for the first time, 90,450 new places are offered, of which 80.6% correspond to public schools and 19.3% to subsidised schools.
-In the case of the first cycle of Infant Education (from zero to three years of age), a total of 125,584 public places have been made available to families, that is, 3,799 new school places more than in the previous academic year.

Football News- Chelsea beats Manchester City to win UEFA Champions League final for second time: Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time Saturday, beating Manchester City 1-0 thanks to Kai Havertz’s first-half goal as Pep Guardiola’s overthinking proved costly again in the all-English final.
Starting without a striker was expected – Guardiola has preferred that in the Champions League knockout matches – but going without a specialist holding midfielder in Fernandinho or Rodri was a major surprise and seemed to destabilize City.
