Andalusia adds 20 more deaths to the Covid list: {Translation} Updated:04/21/2021 18:08
-To the long list of deaths caused by Covid in Andalusia – a total of 9,575 – must be added the twenty reported to the Ministry of Health by the Regional Ministry of Health on Wednesday 21 April. Most of these deaths occurred in Seville (six), Malaga (four) and the same number in Granada. Cordoba and Almeria accounted for two, Huelva and Cadiz one and Jaen none.
-On the positive side of this long pandemic, a total of 641,811 full doses of anti-Covid vaccine had been administered yesterday, which represents 7.56% of the total population of Andalusia. Also, in addition to the 451,572 recovered, 3,007 more doses have been administered today.
-Andalusia has seen a drop in the number of people hospitalised with coronavirus on Wednesday 21 April to 1,588, five fewer than the day before but 102 more than last Wednesday, while those admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have risen to 314, one more in one day and 24 more than a week ago.
-This has been announced by the Junta de Andalucía. The number of hospitalised patients fell after rising by 61 on Tuesday and 75 on Monday, falling by 41 on Sunday, increasing by 12 on Saturday, remaining stable at 1,486 patients for three consecutive days and rising by 13 on Wednesday.
-For their part, ICU patients rose again after increasing by five on Tuesday, six on Monday and eleven on Sunday, falling by four on Saturday, increasing by two on Friday and three on Thursday, and falling by seven on the previous Wednesday.
-The region is still far from the peaks of hospitalisations recorded in the third wave on 2 February (4,980), in the second on 10 November (3,478) and in the first on 30 March 2020 (2,708).
-With regard to ICUs, Andalusia also remains below the peak of the third wave reached on 7 February (735), of the second on 18 November (528) and of the first on 30 March 2020 (439). Nearly half of 70-79 age group in Spain have received first dose of Covid-19 vaccine: The pace of the vaccination drive is expected to accelerate after the EMA ruled the benefits of the Janssen medication outweigh the risks.
According to the latest report by the Spanish Health Ministry, released Tuesday, 45.4% of people in the 70-79 age group have received at least one dose of the vaccine. This is more than double the figure reported last week, when it stood at 21.4%. Up until recently, vaccination of this demographic had been sidelined: the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccine was prioritized for the 80-and-over age group and the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca shots was restricted to people aged between 60 and 69 due to concerns over very rare blood clot cases in younger patients. Veterinarians recommend mass vaccination of cats against covid-19: {Translation} Dogs and ferrets should also be immunized against the coronavirus as soon as anticovid drugs are authorized. Studies show “severe lung damage” in infected animals.
-The covid-19 monitoring group of the Veterinary College Organisation (OCV) has recommended this Monday the mass vaccination of cats against the coronavirus, in the first instance, and then of dogs and ferrets, when vaccines for animals are authorised.
-The CPVO has advanced that research is underway in several centres linked to the Complutense University of Madrid aimed at obtaining a vaccine for animals, especially cats, since, “despite the scarcity of symptoms manifested, in some cases detected necropsies reflect severe lung damage”.
-“The work allows a certain margin of optimism regarding the arrival of the vaccine, because in carnivores, as it is a very immunogenic virus, the process does not involve major complications,” they said. Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

Sanidad maintains the vaccination plan and will not postpone the second dose of Pfizer and Moderna: {Translated summary} Updated: 04/20/2021, 20: 33
The Ministry of Health will maintain its vaccination strategy and will not postpone the second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. It voted in favor of maintaining it and against immunizing more population with a single dose. Scientific opinion is divided on the advisability of distancing the shots to have more people, at least, with one dose. These 98 Andalusian towns face perimeter or non-essential activity restrictions: Andalucía will, from Friday, 15 April, have a total of 98 municipalities with perimeter lockdowns and 33 of them will also face the suspension of all non-essential activity, for exceeding the rate of 500 and 1,000 cases of Covid-19 coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively, in the last 14 days.
This represents an increase of 12 municipalities with restrictions compared to the previous week. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202104/15/these-andalusian-towns-face-20210415185440.html

No Expert Committee meeting this week- The Advisory Council on High Impact Public Health Alerts will most likely meet next Tuesday: {Translated in full} Updated: 20·04·21, 16:04
-The Andalusian government has decided to postpone until next week the meeting scheduled for tomorrow of the committee of experts that takes decisions on the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, officially known as the Advisory Council for High Impact Public Health Alerts.
-Sources from the Andalusian government have confirmed to Efe the delay of the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 21 April, as announced by the Andalusian Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, who said that this decision could be taken because it was possible an improvement in the trend of contagions was possible.
-The most likely date for the meeting of the expert committee is Tuesday 27 April, according to sources from the Andalusian regional government.
-The minister said that the committee of experts meets “when important decisions have to be taken” and added that it was perhaps preferable to delay this week’s meeting in order to “keep a watchful and expectant eye” on developments in the Andalusian community.
-Andalusia has been in a situation of extreme risk to control the pandemic since last Sunday because it has exceeded 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last fourteen days, and yesterday, Monday, the accumulated incidence was 263.7 cases.
-However, the Minister stressed that the incidence at seven days was lower, with 115 cases, which could mean a trend “to improve” as well as a “positive projection”. Photo:L.O. Source, Spanish: https://www.laopiniondemalaga.es/andalucia/2021/04/20/habra-comite-expertos-semana-48509047.html

Spain proposes delay of second Pfizer and Moderna jabs: Spain’s Ministry of Health is proposing to postpone the second dose of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for up to eight weeks among people under 80 years of age to increase the number of people vaccinated – even if the protection is not complete. This would be in line with the strategy being used in other countries such as Israel and the UK. Germany starts demanding first fiscal adjustments from Spain: In a recommendation to the OECD, Berlin asks for cuts “sooner rather than later” despite widespread global support for continued stimulation of coronavirus-hit economies.
In a report from Germany to which EL PAÍS has had access, its position on Spain is that the drop in public revenue and the rollout of stimulus measures will leave Spanish public debt at around 120% of gross domestic product (GDP) for several years to come. This will leave very little room for fiscal measures when the next crisis hits, and even more so if interest rates start to go up again, as the Bundesbank is beginning to suggest.
The main thing, says Germany, is for Spain to offer “an ambitious and credible” commitment to reduce public debt, as a sign to the markets. (Remember what happened to Greece, when another weak economy was pushed over the brink by the EU? -Ed.)
Even the most orthodox German economists fail to fully understand the rush to demand adjustments “sooner rather than later” from an economy that has been so deeply damaged by the pandemic as Spain’s has. “It would be a blunt political and economic mistake,” said Jakob F. Kirkegaard, of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. “It is absolutely premature of Germany to pressure for adjustments, there is simply no reason for it at the present moment. It would be much better to pressure for Spain to present a recovery plan with powerful reforms, and for Germany to try to present a good plan that will serve as an example of how to spend the European funds properly.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/economy_and_business/2021-04-20/germany-starts-demanding-first-fiscal-adjustments-from-spain.html

Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Driven Censorship Blunders- Reckless DMCA Takedown Purges Legitimate Websites from Google Search: Several legitimate websites had their homepages removed from Google simply because they somehow reference the word “live” or “living.” This includes the homepage of Live Nation Asia, the Living Architecture website, as well as the homepage of the UK technology company Living Map.
For example, NASA’s live streaming and multimedia pages are targeted. The same is true for Al Jazeera’s live streaming site, as well as the BBC’s page that allows people to stream Radio One.
Needless to say, these are all obvious errors that should have been avoided if there was some human oversight. It also shows how risky relying on ‘automated filters’ and ‘takedown bots’ can be.

Football News- Madrid court bans UEFA, FIFA and LaLiga from taking action against Superliga: {Translated, 1st paragraph only} Madrid’s 17th Commercial Court this morning banned FIFA, UEFA, LaLiga and the football federations from adopting any measure that “prohibits, restricts, limits or conditions in any way, directly or indirectly” the launch of the European Super League, the new competition promoted by 12 major European clubs. The court decision, which has been taken at the request of the Super League itself, orders these institutions to refrain from taking “any sanctioning or disciplinary measure” against the clubs that join the new competition, nor against their players and managers. It also vetoes the exclusion of the clubs promoting the Super League “from any of the international or national club competitions in which they have been participating regularly”, such as the Champions League. Football News- Chelsea and Manchester City to withdraw from European Super League: Chelsea and Manchester City are to withdraw from the European Super League. The clubs on Sunday were among 12 teams, including six from the Premier League, to join as founder members.
Chelsea’s move comes amid a backdrop that saw significant concerns raised in a meeting between the players and club’s chairman Buck on Monday. Buck had convened them to outline what was, at that point, the club’s motivation behind joining the Super League but several international players spoke up and stated in no uncertain terms that they would not countenance a future in which they were barred from playing at World Cups, European Championships and other major tournaments. Malaga Animal Centre Hits Target of Putting Down No Abandoned Animals: The Municipal Animal Health Centre’s figures showed it had reached its commitment to putting down no abandoned pets. Only two animals had to be put down during the first three months of the year, both for illness reasons. Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Gemma del Corral said the figures were the result of working with charities and improved public awareness. The centre says it now only euthanises animals for health reasons. Full article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/04/20/malaga-animal-centre-hits-target-of-putting-down-no-abandoned-animals/

Print with Chromebook?: Last November I replaced my old laptop (Windows 10) with a new Chromebook, unfortunately on December 31st the Google Cloud Print service was discontinued. I have looked at various WiFi (all in one) printers – but I am unsure which one to buy, as the info/details/packaging does not say “suitable for Chrome OS”, and the on-line reviews vary. If anyone knows of a suitable WiFi printer/copier that works well with a chromebook – would they please share?

Andalusia adds 2,034 coronavirus infections in two days and points to the curve beginning to bend: {Translation} Updated: 04/19/2021 17:44
-Andalusia has had 2,034 cases of coronavirus infection this Monday. However, this figure does not only correspond to the last 24 hours but, as confirmed by the Regional Ministry of Health, corresponds to Sunday and Monday. Thus the average is 1,017 infections each day.
-Compared day by day, that’s 968 fewer than last Sunday and almost 200 fewer than last Monday.
-With these data, Andalusia seems to confirm that it is beginning to bend the curve of the fourth wave of the pandemic. However, this is an aspect that must be taken with great caution because, it is worth remembering, this same sensation occurred at the beginning of the second wave and when the October long weekend passed, the data shot up.
-However, the situation is different now. Many of the most vulnerable people are already vaccinated and, moreover, the restrictions were much less relaxed at Easter than at Christmas, when the health crisis curve grew explosively.
-This moderation of the curve of the fourth wave is reflected in the cumulative incidence (AI), which has risen from 259 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants to 263. The rise is very slight – only 4 points – especially when one takes into account that this weekend was two weeks after the end of Easter and, therefore, should have seen the greatest effects on the increase in infections due to the relaxation of the measures for these holidays.
-More relevant right now seems to be the seven-day IA, which reflects changes in the trend earlier. Here we can see that on Friday the IA was 115.5 and this Monday it is 115.1. The decrease, although slight, points to a possible new course of the wave, or at least a plateau.
-The number of deaths, meanwhile, continues to show no growth. This is logical because it is in the last measures where changes can be seen. Thus, the Regional Ministry of Health has reported eleven deaths in the last two days, an average of 5.5 each day. These figures are in line with those recorded in the last two weeks.
-Meanwhile, the number of people hospitalised on Monday has risen to 1,532. This is 75 more than yesterday, a figure that is compatible with the plateau scenario or change of trend that has not yet reached those admitted for coronavirus. In any case, those hospitalised for Covid-19 are also growing in the ICU, where there are 308 this Monday, six more than yesterday. Football News- UEFA confirms 36-team Champions League reform with single league format replacing group stage: The new plans come into effect in 2024.
The traditional group stage concept which has seen four teams compete in eight pools with the top two qualifying for the last 16 will be scrapped in favour of a single league including 36 teams.
All of the fixtures will be drawn out of a pot going forward, with seeding driven by the UEFA coefficient, and the Europa League and Conference League will follow the same format.
Each team will play a total of 10 games home and away, with the top eight automatically qualifying for the last 16 and those finishing between ninth and 24th to compete in two-legged play-offs to decide who else makes the knockout stage. Monday’s statement also pointed to wider implications for Spanish sport and said La Liga is willing to do whatever it takes to block the Super League’s implementation. Social Media Built For Conservatives- Free Speech But No Cussin’ Allowed: Mike Lindell’s new free-speech social-media site called “Frank” is set to debut this week, according to the inventor of MyPillow.
While the website will let users speak their minds and post videos on topics banned by Twitter and Fakebook, some restrictions will apply. Lindell said: “You don’t get to use the four swear words. The C-word, the N-word, the F-word or God’s name in vain. Free speech is not pornography, free speech isn’t ‘I am going to kill you,’ it is very well defined in our mission statement.”

SPOOKY SPAM- Internet Getting Stranger All The Time: I wanted to let readers know they are not alone if they have noticed an uptick in spooky spam. More spam now addresses you by name, and often mentions both websites you visit as well as the names of your Contacts, possibly pretending to be a Contact. Spam producing is moving to super-computers running Artificial Intelligence (AI), and AI is far more clever than yesterdays spammers on desktop computers, and learns far faster than humans! I expect we’ll see much more of this personalized spam in the coming months.
AI gets the website info from your cookies (see article in section below for more on cookies) and network traffic logs (unless you use a paid VPN).
How do they get the names of your contacts? Most major cloud services, email servers, messenger services and social media hosts have been hacked. Some seem to get hacked monthly. These huge data dumps get sold for a while, then get released for free on the Dark Web.
Now I am going to let you in on a computer industry secret…Many of these big data “hacks” are not attacks by outside forces, even if that is what big tech wants you to believe. These are often inside jobs! Usually it’s a disgruntled ex-employee who still has working admin passwords. Also, many tech workers, as a sort of insurance policy, create a “trapdoor” in projects to ensure continued access to “their projects” in the event they get locked out by their managers. This allows them to retaliate against perceived unfair treatment; companies own the inventions of their employees, who may feel they have not been fairly compensated for a popular, huge-profit generating product they developed, and often get fired when saying so.  This also guaranties a steady stream of network weaknesses for real hackers to exploit. This is an embarrassment for the tech giants so they focus the blame on hackers. -Ed.

Andalusia reduces 41 hospitalized for coronavirus in a single day: {Translated full article} Updated: 04/18/2021 17: 31
-Andalusia has reported this Sunday 1,457 people hospitalised for coronavirus. That is 41 less than yesterday, when the community recorded 1,498. Moreover, that figure means returning to the numbers of a week ago and is the biggest drop in a single day for almost a month.
-In the ICU there is not such good news. According to reports from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia has 302 hospitalised patients in intensive care this Sunday, eleven more than yesterday, Saturday. The number of people in the ICU for coronavirus has been stagnant for almost two weeks at around 300, a figure that has been around since 5 April.
-As for those vaccinated, the community already has 7 percent of the population immunised against the coronavirus. There are 591,004 people. In addition, 1,017,000 people have at least one dose, i.e. 12 percent of the census.
-Thus, 19 percent of the population is already protected to some degree against the coronavirus thanks to the vaccines, whose campaign began at the end of December last year.
-To this figure must be added those who have passed the disease and generated antibodies. According to health data, these are 440,891 Andalusians, or 5.2 percent of the population. This means that 24.2 percent of Andalusians, or one in four, already have some kind of coverage against Covid-19 infection. Seville, Córdoba, Granada and Almería close their bars again today at eight in the afternoon: {Translated, summary} Updated 04/18/2021, 12: 33
-Four Andalusian capitals, Seville, Córdoba, Granada and Almería, will have to close their bars at 8:00 p.m. from this Sunday, April 18, due to the alert level 3.1 or 4.1 in force as a result of the critical situation epidemiological derived from Covid-19 after the decisions adopted by the territorial public health alert committees that met last Thursday in the eight provinces to update the current restrictions by municipalities.
-In addition, the capacity in hotels and restaurants for these cities is limited to 50% indoors on level 3 and 30% on level 4, while on terraces 100% is allowed on level 3 and a maximum of 75% on level 4.
-On the contrary, the other four Andalusian capitals – Cádiz, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga – will maintain the opening hours of bars until 10:30 p.m. by continuing at alert level 2. Andalucía Proposes The Compulsory Sterilisation Of Pets:
In a highly controversial move, the Junta de Andalucía has drawn up a preliminary draft of its new animal welfare law which would require pet owners to sterilise all companion animals. The legislation has been welcomed by animal welfare societies and shelters, who want to see the “establishment of guarantees for the sterilization of animals and their purchase, breeding and responsible sale to avoid overpopulation, abandonment and, ultimately, their sacrifice.”
The new draft proposal states that “companion animals that are the object of sale, transfer or donation must be previously sterilised before reaching one year of age and, preferably, before their first heat.” The legislation proposes stricter registering methods for breeders and explicitly prohibits the “reproduction, breeding and sale of companion animals by private persons outside the breeding and sale centres that meet the legal requirements, as well as their transfer or donation without being previously identified and registered in the name of the transmitting person”. DoctorLaptop’s Tips #89- What are Computer Cookies?
-A computer cookie is a small text file that contains a unique ID tag, placed on the user’s computer by a website. In this file, various information can be stored, and the data retrieved by the cookie’s creator so you can be “tracked”.
-Some cookies are harmless, but others remain active even on websites that they didn’t originate from, gathering information about your behavior- what sites you visit and what you click on and search for. These are called third-party persistent cookies or, more colloquially, tracking cookies. These also can collect your IP address. This allows them to search for other accounts using the same IP address. They then know those accounts are also yours, or those of other people who share your internet connection. This is one way you get spam emails that are related to things you searched for on Google! Tracking users is actually much more invasive, but that is too techy to explain here. (For more info web-search “browser fingerprinting”.)
-Tracking cookies are usually used for advertising purposes, retargeting in particular. Retargeting is a tactic that often relies on tracking cookies to show ads to people who have previously visited a specific site or shown interest in a particular product. If you’ve ever bought or even looked at a product on Amazon and then started seeing ads for similar products on other websites, you’ve been retargeted.
-Can I block all cookies? Yes, but if you do it will break some websites.
-Should I clean out my cookies regularly? Yes. Go to your browser settings, find the Cookies Settings and click the button to delete cookies.
-What else can I do to prevent cookies tracking me?
-Use good ad blocker and tracker blocker add-ons for your browsers, I use both uBlock Origin and Ghostery. These may break some websites so be sure you know how to turn these on and off. If a website insists you turn off your ad blocker for access, it is saying you must allow it to sell your data to gain access. That’s the price for “free” content.
-Use different browsers for different tasks. For example, use Chrome for banking and shopping, Firefox for email and messaging, and Edge for social media and TV.
-Clean all your browsers of adware and rogue cookies at the same time using the free ADWCleaner tool from Malwarebytes. Download and run, very simple to use. https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
-Use a reputable, paid VPN. Free VPNs only offer basic protection as they do NOT encrypt your data, they simply mask your IP address, and that mask is NOT highly secure. For example, Free VPNs are not very good for accessing BBC. BBC is very good at identifying masked IP address and extracting the real IP address. Paid VPVs can often go undetected by BBC for weeks or months, because the true IP address and all data are encrypted.

Andalusia adds almost 2,500 coronavirus infections and remains only 9 points from extreme risk: {Translation} Updated: 04/16/2021, 15: 53
-Andalusia has reported 2,477 cases of coronavirus infection on Friday. Although the figure represents an increase on previous figures – 1,900 were reported yesterday – it is not very significant, given that last Friday the Regional Ministry of Health reported 2,250.
-The figure is less dramatic if it is noted that it is now 14 days since the Easter holidays and that the reflection of this reality in the pandemic figures is much more moderate than what occurred after Christmas with the third wave.
-However, make no mistake. The fourth wave is rising, albeit much more slowly than the previous one, and in fact Andalusia is this Friday only nine points away from the accumulated incidence rate that marks the extreme risk.
-Thus, the community records this Friday 241 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants to 14 days, 16 more than yesterday. Above 250, a figure that is likely to be exceeded this weekend, marks the extreme risk in the pandemic. With one week to go, the cumulative incidence is growing even more discreetly. Yesterday the AI was 114.4, this Friday it is 115.5.
-Meanwhile, the number of deaths has also increased slightly. Thus, this Friday Andalusia recorded 19 more deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic to 9,508. For ten days the community has not exceeded 20 deaths per day, which is a sign of an improvement in this measure of the progress of the health crisis.
-Proof that the fourth wave is not like the third is the situation in hospitals. Andalusia has had three consecutive days with the same number of people admitted for coronavirus: 1,486. In addition, there are 295 people in the ICU for Covid-19, only two more than yesterday. Spain will not require coronavirus tests or quarantines for travelers arriving with ‘vaccine passports’: Covid-19 vaccine passports, which the European Union is officially calling “Digital Green Certificates,” will allow citizens of Europe to enter Spain without having to quarantine or take a coronavirus test. That’s according to an announcement made on Thursday by Alfredo González, the general secretary of Digital Health, Information and Innovation at the country’s National Health System. The document will come in the form of a free QR code, will be available by the end of June, and will allow for “more people” to arrive in the country “in a safer manner,” he explained. Andalusia reports 1,899 coronavirus infections this Thursday, 700 less than the previous one: {Translated in full} Updated: 15/04/2021, 17:48
-Andalusia has reported 1,899 cases of coronavirus infection on Thursday. Compared to the same day last week, there is a clear decrease since the Consejería de Salud then reported 2,590 cases. This is also occurring at a time when the impact of the easing of restrictions and the increased mobility that occurred over Easter should be felt.
-But it seems that, for now, this impact is not being felt. On the contrary, there has been a drop in contagions, which confirms that the fourth wave is not the third. If that one was explosive and vertical, this one is growing with much less force and with saw teeth. Andalusia seems to be in one of these ups and downs right now. Yesterday it reduced its cumulative incidence to 223 cases per 100,000 cases in 14 days and today it has risen to only 225.
-The region seems to be stuck at this figure, which, however, is dangerous because it is still very close to the extreme risk rate of 250 cumulative incidence points. In addition, today’s figure may be positive, but since the end of Easter week the number has risen from 172 points on Easter Sunday to 225.
-In hospitalised patients there has also been a slowdown. In fact, in the last 24 hours the number of people admitted for coronavirus is the same as yesterday: 1,486. In the ICU there is a slight increase, up to 293 -three more than the previous day-.
-In any case, the number of hospitalised patients has been rising for weeks. Since the lowest point after the third wave, when Andalusia had 960 hospitalised patients -on 28 March-, the community has added more than 500 hospitalised patients.
-The number of deaths also remains similar to previous days. There are 14 this Thursday compared to nine yesterday. It should be remembered that for days the death toll, which has now stood at 9,489 since the start of the pandemic, has been below ten a day, a figure that is now at least three times higher than it has been for at least a week. A total smoking ban on bar and restaurant terraces is being considered in Spain: (Talk about “kicking a man when he’s down”, as if bars & cafes hadn’t suffered enough devastation already. -Ed.) The Ministry of Health claims that, with tobacco smoke, “aerosols are emitted that could contribute to the transmission of the virus”. The draft document insists that there are numerous scientific publications that argue that coronavirus is transmitted by aerosols that spread more strongly with smoke and the fact that smoking puts the health of the people around a smoker at risk when inhaling that ‘infected’ smoke or vapour at higher speeds and farther away. The cybersecurity firm said it discovered over 100,000 unique “trap” web pages that contain popular business terms or keywords such as template, invoice, receipt, questionnaire, and resume, thus allowing the pages to be ranked higher on the search results, and therefore, increasing the likelihood of success in collecting victims.
The attack works by leveraging searches for business forms such as invoices, templates, questionnaires, and receipts as a stepping stone toward infiltrating the systems. Users attempting to download the alleged document templates are redirected, without their knowledge, to a malicious website that hosts the malware.
Once a victim lands on the attacker-controlled website and downloads the document being searched for, it becomes an entry point for more sophisticated threats, ultimately resulting in the installation of a .NET-based RAT called SolarMarker (aka Yellow Cockatoo, Jupyter, and Polazert).
Not much you can do to protect yourself besides avoiding Google Services and testing every link you click to confirm it is safe.
To check the safety of any link before you click it, copy and paste it into this website’s tool. (bookmark this!). This is not a 100% guaranty the link is clean, as new hacks take time to be reported and posted to “bad link” lists by tech security researchers, but it’s the best we can do.  https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url

If it is not in there then make sure your device has been fully updated, both the operating system and your apps. If you are using a 5yr+ old phone/tablet, it may be obsolete and unable to do the required updates necessary to receive DigameXtra emails. In that case, to see DigameXtra on that device, simply visit the website https://digamextra.com.  Apple iPhones/iPads  are particularly susceptible to problems if they are not kept updated! -Ed.

Spain surpasses the barrier of incidence by adding 10,474 new infections: {Translated in full} Updated April 14, 2021 6:05 p.m
-On Wednesday, Spain once again surpassed the symbolic barrier of 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The 14-day incidence rate was 200.98. Spain had fallen below this threshold of 200 cases on 26 February, when an incidence of 193.91 was recorded, in the middle of a downward curve of the pandemic that bottomed out on 16 March. Since then, infections have continued to rise, albeit more gently than in recent waves.
-The incidence has risen in 13 communities, as well as in Ceuta and Melilla. The regions with the worst figures are Navarre, with 433.76, Madrid, with 347.14, and the Basque Country, with 345.87.
-The Ministry of Health has reported 10,474 new infections in its daily report, which leaves a total of 3,387,022 infected since the beginning of the pandemic. By region, Madrid leads the list of new infections with 2,541 reported today, followed by Andalusia, with 2,278, Catalonia, with 2,153, and the Basque Country, with 1,005.
-In the last 24 hours, 131 people have died, bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 in more than a year of pandemic to 76,756.
-In terms of hospitalisations, ICU beds occupied by COVID patients represent 21.56%, a total of 2,153 patients. In Spain, 9,795 patients have been hospitalised due to coronavirus, a number that has remained more or less stable over the last few days.
-These figures come at a time when the pharmaceutical company Pfizer has brought forward the delivery of 50 million doses to the European Union. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, on Wednesday, 24 hours after the suspension of the distribution of Janssen vaccines due to cases of thrombosis in the United States.
-The Johnson&Johnson lab has 55 million single-dose vaccines committed in the second quarter of 2021. “The pandemic is a threat. The sooner we reach 70% of the population, the more likely we are to contain the virus,” said Ursula von der Leyen, who said that on Wednesday “100 million people were vaccinated in the EU, a quarter of them with two doses”. J&J Janssen vaccine Europe rollout delayed; South Africa halts use:
South Africa suspended giving Johnson & Johnson vaccine shots Tuesday as a “precautionary measure” and J&J delayed its European vaccine rollout following an FDA decision to pause the jabs while very rare blood clot cases are examined. Johnson & Johnson said it was delaying the rollout of its coronavirus vaccine across Europe amid the U.S. probe, a move that experts worried could further shake vaccine confidence and complicate worldwide COVID-19 immunization efforts. Denmark Quits AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 Shot: Denmark on Wednesday became the first country to stop using AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine altogether over a potential link to a rare but serious form of blood clot. Results of investigations into the AstraZeneca-associated blood clots “showed real and serious side-effects,” Danish health agency head Soren Brostrom told a news briefing.
“We have therefore chosen to continue the vaccination programme for all target groups without this vaccine.”

AGAIN- Update Your Chrome Browser to Patch 2 New Exploits: Google on Tuesday released a new version of Chrome web-browsing software for Windows, Mac, and Linux with patches for two newly discovered security vulnerabilities for both of which it says exploits exist in the wild, allowing attackers to engage in active exploitation.
Users can update to the latest version by going to Chrome Settings > Help > About Google Chrome, it will then check for updates to mitigate the risk associated with the flaws. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/04/2-new-chrome-0-days-under-attack-update.html

ANOTHER WhatsApp Hack- Using WhatsApp On Android 9 or Earlier Is Risky, More Hacks Announced: The flaws take aim at devices running Android versions up to and including Android 9 by carrying out what’s known as a “man-in-the-disk” attack that makes it possible for adversaries to compromise an app. To defend against such attacks, Google introduced a feature called “scoped storage” in Android 10. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/04/new-whatsapp-bug-couldve-let-attackers.html

Editor comment on previous two articles: If you still use Google’s Chrome browser & Gmail, or Fakebook’s WhatsApp, you have no one to blame but yourself for all the Spam, unsolicited phone sales calls and targeted ads you receive. These 3 services are constantly collecting and/or leaking your data.
Try these secure alternatives.
For Chrome, instead try Brave browser. https://brave.com/
For Gmail, instead use a properly secure paid account with real phone support! I suggest a Canadian tech pioneer with 23 years in the secure email biz, Hushmail. A Personal Hushmail email account includes live phone support in proper English and 10Gb data storage for under €50/yr. https://www.hushmail.com/personal/
For WhatsApp, switch to Signal with Windows, Android and iPhone/iPad apps. https://signal.org/download/
For Google search, instead use DuckDuckGo https://duckduckgo.com/ or searX https://searx.prvcy.eu/

Giant Catfish Captured In Sevilla’s Guadalquivir River: {Translated selected content}
Ecologistas en Acción de Andalucía was recently informed of the capture of a catfish of almost two meters and about 100 kilos of weight downstream of the Alcalá del Río Dam, in the province of Seville. The fact was confirmed by the competent authorities at the meeting of the Working Group on Water of the Doñana Natural Space Participation Council, which took place last week. Previous catches were also confirmed both in the Iznájar reservoir (Córdoba) and in the Gergal reservoir (Seville). The representatives of the entities that make up the working group, including the Doñana Biological Station, decided to send the Peno of the Doñana Council the request that the Environmental Administration immediately develop eradication and control measures for the species.
The catfish is a super-predatory fish that can measure 2.5 meters and weigh 180 kilos, with a life expectancy of 30 years. It is the most voracious of all large predatory fish and feeds from other species of fish to water birds and small mammals. It is an introduced invasive exotic species whose presence is especially worrying in the surroundings of the Guadalquivir Marshes, where there are the very few remaining populations of gray teals, malvasias, brown poles or horned coots, all of them endangered birds. Due to its colonizing potential and constituting a serious threat to native species, habitats or ecosystems, in Spain the species is included in the Spanish Catalog of Invasive Exotic Species.

AstraZeneca sends Spain less than half of the promised doses this week: The irregularity in the supply of the British AstraZeneca vaccine is causing “serious logistical and planning problems” for Spain’s Ministry of Health and the regions it is claimed.
In its latest shipment the laboratory has sent less than half of the doses agreed with the Ministry of Health after also having delivery issues last week
The Health ministry, headed by Carolina Darias, announced this Tuesday (13 April) the distribution of only 139,000 new doses among the regions when the pharmaceutical company is committed to supplying about 350,000 vials every week in order to reach 12.2 million doses by the end of September. U.S. pauses J&J’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, EU deliveries paused, over rare blood clots: U.S. federal health agencies on Tuesday recommended pausing the use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine after six women under 50 given the shot developed rare blood clots, dealing a fresh setback to efforts to tackle the pandemic. Following the news, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) said it was delaying the rollout of the vaccine to Europe, a week after regulators there said they were reviewing rare blood clots in four recipients of the shot in the United States. 30-year-old Toledo teacher dies with severe thrombus 12 days after being vaccinated with AstraZeneca: {Translated from diariosur.es}
-The Ministry of Health is investigating the death Monday morning in Toledo of a 30-year-old teacher with episodes of severe thrombosis and no known history of embolism who had been inoculated with AstraZeneca’s vaccine on 1 April, Maundy Thursday.
-The professor, was inoculated on 1 April at the Polygon hospital converted into a vaccinodrome for essential workers. On Friday 9, he was admitted to the ICU, suffering from severe thrombi. After four days in intensive care at the Hospital Virgen de la Salud, he died.
-Last week the European Medicines Agency (EMA) certified that its studies have found a “possible link” between AstraZeneca and the “unusual cases of blood clotting reported in some people who received this vaccine” after its Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) studied 228 episodes of embolisms (169 cerebral and 59 abdominal), including 18 deaths among those immunised with the British serum.

Scam Alert- Fake Copyright Takedown Claims Sent to Businesses: Microsoft has warned organizations of a “unique” attack campaign that abuses contact forms published on websites to deliver malicious links to businesses via emails containing fake legal threats. “The emails instruct recipients to click a link to review supposed evidence behind their allegations, but are instead led to the download of IcedID, an info-stealing malware,” the company’s threat intelligence team said.
IceID is a Windows-based banking trojan that’s used for reconnaissance and exfiltration of banking credentials, alongside features that allow it to deploy additional payloads such as ransomware and malware capable of performing hands-on-keyboard attacks, stealing credentials, and moving laterally across affected networks.

Japan to dump contaminated water from Fukushima into the ocean:
-More than one million metric tons of treated radioactive water will soon be released from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean, following a decision by the Japanese government. The plan has raised strong criticism at home, especially by fishermen, and among neighboring countries such as China.
-The water stored in the tanks won’t be discharged as it is. Instead, it will be treated through a system that removes most of the radioactive material except for tritium, an isotope of hydrogen not harmful to humans in small amounts. Tritium “emits weak radiation” and its impact on health “is very low,” a government statement reads.
-Still, the reassurances of Japan haven’t settled the nerves of neighboring countries, environmental groups, and local fishermen — worried over the implications of Japan’s decision. China said the plan was “extremely irresponsible”, and accused Japan of disregarding “domestic and foreign doubts and opposition”. In a statement, the Chinese foreign ministry said the releasing the water will “seriously damage international public health and safety and the vital interests of the people of neighboring countries.” South Korea shared the concern, saying the decision could “directly or indirectly affect the safety of the Korean people and the surrounding environment in the future.” Full article: https://www.zmescience.com/ecology/japan-water-fukushima-treated-dumping-2464624/

Pentagon unveils microchip that senses Covid in the body & revolutionary filter that removes virus from patient’s blood with dialysis machine: Pentagon scientists have invented a microchip that once inserted under the skin will detect if the patient develops Covid-19. Their work on the microchip was revealed on 60 Minutes on CBS on Sunday night. The microchip, which does not track movements, is carried in a tissue-like gel and is designed to continuously test the patient’s blood.
Col Hepburn also told the show that his team had invented a filter that if placed on a dialysis machine would remove the virus from blood. He said that the four-day treatment had been given to “Patient 16”, the spouse of a military member, who was in organ failure and septic shock. “You pass it through, and it takes the virus out, and puts the blood back in,” said Col Hepburn. And he said that within days of the treatment the patient had made a full recovery.
The treatment has now been approved by the FDA for emergency use and has been used to treat almost 300 sick patients. (Thanks to A.B. for the tip! -Ed.) Full article: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/pentagon-covid-microchip-blood-virus-b1830372.html

Andalusia continues to climb the fourth wave and now exceeds 300 admitted to the ICU due to coronavirus: {Translation} Updated: 12/04/2021, 14:12
-Andalusia continues to ride the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The escalation is already noticeable in almost all the parameters that measure the progress of the health crisis, including ICU admissions. In fact, according to the latest data from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia has surpassed the barrier of 300 hospitalised in intensive care, something that has not happened since mid-March, when the previous peak fell sharply. There has also been a rise in the number of general inpatients. This Monday there are 1,393, 60 more than on Sunday.
-The number of infections, which reached below half a hundred on Monday and Tuesday, days in which the notification tends to be lower, today is again above a thousand. Thus, 1,207 cases have been reported by the Regional Ministry of Health, a figure very similar to that reported by the Junta on the same day last week.
-This number, although it reflects the growth of the fourth wave, comes in the week in which the effects of the easing of restrictions during Easter Week should begin to be seen. And yet there is no noticeable growth so far. However, we will have to wait until the end of this week to see whether this is sustained or just the effect of Monday.
-The cumulative incidence rate of the autonomous community has risen for 13 days and stands at 225.3 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, 23.5 points more in two days (the incidence of the disease in the region is not reported on Sunday) and 69.9 above the rate of 155.4 last Monday.
-In any case, deaths remain at minimal numbers. Only three deaths were reported on Monday. Whether it is because of the vaccines or because the number of deaths is where changes in the trend are most noticeable later, the fact is that the death toll from the pandemic – now 9,456 since the start of the health crisis – has been at its lowest level for months. Spain will use Janssen Covid-19 vaccine for the 70-79 age group: Spain will be receiving its first shipment of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccines “first thing on Wednesday,” Health Minister Carolina Darias announced today. The government is expecting to get 300,000 doses of the one-shot treatment, making it the equivalent of twice as many doses of the other Covid-19 vaccines currently used in Spain: Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca. Darias also stated on Monday that the first group in line for the vaccine will be people between 70 and 79 years of age. Facebook Analytics Will Shut Down On June 30 – Here’s Why That Is (And Isn’t) A Big Deal: This week, Facebook quietly informed users of Facebook Analytics that the free tool will no longer be available as of June 30, 2021 (You’ll need a paid business account to use it after that. -Ed.).
Until then, people will still be able to access reports and insights, and they’ll be able to export charts and tables. Advertisers and developers that want to retain access to their currently available data will need to export it to their desktop by the end of June.
Alternative tools advertisers can use to track their growth, engagement and monetization activities on Facebook and Instagram once FB Analytics goes away include the Facebook Business Suite, Ads Manager and Events Manager.
