SPOOKY SPAM- Internet Getting Stranger All The Time: I wanted to let readers know they are not alone if they have noticed an uptick in spooky spam. More spam now addresses you by name, and often mentions both websites you visit as well as the names of your Contacts, possibly pretending to be a Contact. Spam producing is moving to super-computers running Artificial Intelligence (AI), and AI is far more clever than yesterdays spammers on desktop computers, and learns far faster than humans! I expect we’ll see much more of this personalized spam in the coming months.
AI gets the website info from your cookies (see article in section below for more on cookies) and network traffic logs (unless you use a paid VPN).
How do they get the names of your contacts? Most major cloud services, email servers, messenger services and social media hosts have been hacked. Some seem to get hacked monthly. These huge data dumps get sold for a while, then get released for free on the Dark Web.
Now I am going to let you in on a computer industry secret…Many of these big data “hacks” are not attacks by outside forces, even if that is what big tech wants you to believe. These are often inside jobs! Usually it’s a disgruntled ex-employee who still has working admin passwords. Also, many tech workers, as a sort of insurance policy, create a “trapdoor” in projects to ensure continued access to “their projects” in the event they get locked out by their managers. This allows them to retaliate against perceived unfair treatment; companies own the inventions of their employees, who may feel they have not been fairly compensated for a popular, huge-profit generating product they developed, and often get fired when saying so. This also guaranties a steady stream of network weaknesses for real hackers to exploit. This is an embarrassment for the tech giants so they focus the blame on hackers. -Ed.

Andalusia reduces 41 hospitalized for coronavirus in a single day: {Translated full article} Updated: 04/18/2021 17: 31
-Andalusia has reported this Sunday 1,457 people hospitalised for coronavirus. That is 41 less than yesterday, when the community recorded 1,498. Moreover, that figure means returning to the numbers of a week ago and is the biggest drop in a single day for almost a month.
-In the ICU there is not such good news. According to reports from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia has 302 hospitalised patients in intensive care this Sunday, eleven more than yesterday, Saturday. The number of people in the ICU for coronavirus has been stagnant for almost two weeks at around 300, a figure that has been around since 5 April.
-As for those vaccinated, the community already has 7 percent of the population immunised against the coronavirus. There are 591,004 people. In addition, 1,017,000 people have at least one dose, i.e. 12 percent of the census.
-Thus, 19 percent of the population is already protected to some degree against the coronavirus thanks to the vaccines, whose campaign began at the end of December last year.
-To this figure must be added those who have passed the disease and generated antibodies. According to health data, these are 440,891 Andalusians, or 5.2 percent of the population. This means that 24.2 percent of Andalusians, or one in four, already have some kind of coverage against Covid-19 infection. Seville, Córdoba, Granada and Almería close their bars again today at eight in the afternoon: {Translated, summary} Updated 04/18/2021, 12: 33
-Four Andalusian capitals, Seville, Córdoba, Granada and Almería, will have to close their bars at 8:00 p.m. from this Sunday, April 18, due to the alert level 3.1 or 4.1 in force as a result of the critical situation epidemiological derived from Covid-19 after the decisions adopted by the territorial public health alert committees that met last Thursday in the eight provinces to update the current restrictions by municipalities.
-In addition, the capacity in hotels and restaurants for these cities is limited to 50% indoors on level 3 and 30% on level 4, while on terraces 100% is allowed on level 3 and a maximum of 75% on level 4.
-On the contrary, the other four Andalusian capitals – Cádiz, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga – will maintain the opening hours of bars until 10:30 p.m. by continuing at alert level 2. Andalucía Proposes The Compulsory Sterilisation Of Pets:
In a highly controversial move, the Junta de Andalucía has drawn up a preliminary draft of its new animal welfare law which would require pet owners to sterilise all companion animals. The legislation has been welcomed by animal welfare societies and shelters, who want to see the “establishment of guarantees for the sterilization of animals and their purchase, breeding and responsible sale to avoid overpopulation, abandonment and, ultimately, their sacrifice.”
The new draft proposal states that “companion animals that are the object of sale, transfer or donation must be previously sterilised before reaching one year of age and, preferably, before their first heat.” The legislation proposes stricter registering methods for breeders and explicitly prohibits the “reproduction, breeding and sale of companion animals by private persons outside the breeding and sale centres that meet the legal requirements, as well as their transfer or donation without being previously identified and registered in the name of the transmitting person”. DoctorLaptop’s Tips #89- What are Computer Cookies?
-A computer cookie is a small text file that contains a unique ID tag, placed on the user’s computer by a website. In this file, various information can be stored, and the data retrieved by the cookie’s creator so you can be “tracked”.
-Some cookies are harmless, but others remain active even on websites that they didn’t originate from, gathering information about your behavior- what sites you visit and what you click on and search for. These are called third-party persistent cookies or, more colloquially, tracking cookies. These also can collect your IP address. This allows them to search for other accounts using the same IP address. They then know those accounts are also yours, or those of other people who share your internet connection. This is one way you get spam emails that are related to things you searched for on Google! Tracking users is actually much more invasive, but that is too techy to explain here. (For more info web-search “browser fingerprinting”.)
-Tracking cookies are usually used for advertising purposes, retargeting in particular. Retargeting is a tactic that often relies on tracking cookies to show ads to people who have previously visited a specific site or shown interest in a particular product. If you’ve ever bought or even looked at a product on Amazon and then started seeing ads for similar products on other websites, you’ve been retargeted.
-Can I block all cookies? Yes, but if you do it will break some websites.
-Should I clean out my cookies regularly? Yes. Go to your browser settings, find the Cookies Settings and click the button to delete cookies.
-What else can I do to prevent cookies tracking me?
-Use good ad blocker and tracker blocker add-ons for your browsers, I use both uBlock Origin and Ghostery. These may break some websites so be sure you know how to turn these on and off. If a website insists you turn off your ad blocker for access, it is saying you must allow it to sell your data to gain access. That’s the price for “free” content.
-Use different browsers for different tasks. For example, use Chrome for banking and shopping, Firefox for email and messaging, and Edge for social media and TV.
-Clean all your browsers of adware and rogue cookies at the same time using the free ADWCleaner tool from Malwarebytes. Download and run, very simple to use. https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
-Use a reputable, paid VPN. Free VPNs only offer basic protection as they do NOT encrypt your data, they simply mask your IP address, and that mask is NOT highly secure. For example, Free VPNs are not very good for accessing BBC. BBC is very good at identifying masked IP address and extracting the real IP address. Paid VPVs can often go undetected by BBC for weeks or months, because the true IP address and all data are encrypted.
