Torrox Hotel Article: I read, with interest, the article about new Torrox Costa Hotels. Especially the suggestion that there would be one next to the Iberostar, given that the only obvious site would be the piece of land between the hotel and Laguna Beach Complex! They have just spent €155.550.99 turning the rough ground car park into a…Car Park. (Reference http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/18/plans-announced-boutique-hotel-20201218114639-v.html)

The Government prepares the approval on Tuesday of a 50 percent reduction in the rent to bars and premises: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
The Government prepares the approval for this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers of a royal decree by which large property holders must apply a 50% reduction in rents to hotel and commercial premises.
According to the draft finalized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, the text will include, except for modifications, tax incentives for those who are not large holders (less than ten urban premises owned) and reduce the income they obtain from the rental of their premises dedicated to hospitality and commerce.
The deductions for rents, according to the draft of the future regulation, refer to the period of the state of alarm and as long as there has not been an agreement between the parties for a rent reduction, sources from the Ministry have confirmed.
The document already has a broad consensus, according to El País, and adds that the measure will not reduce public accounts as the minister of the sector, Reyes Maroto, has insisted for weeks.
This shock plan to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis in the hospitality and commerce sector has had to be postponed on several occasions in the absence of a consensus. COVID in UK- The new strain of coronavirus – everything scientists are saying, and should we be worried?: The Prime Minister is reported to have held a meeting on Friday amid growing concern about the new variant of the virus.
There are fears a new variant of coronavirus may be speeding up the spread of Covid-19, particularly in south east England.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there is nothing to suggest this new strain is more likely to cause serious disease.
Boris Johnson was reported to have held an unscheduled meeting of ministers on Friday amid “growing concern” about the threat posed by the mutant strain – which is spreading fastest in South East England.
Professor Sir Mark Walport – a member of the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) – said there was a real possibility that it could have a “transmission advantage”.
“What happens with viruses is they do naturally mutate all the time and the ones that are likely to do well are the ones that increase transmission,” he told BBC2’s Newsnight.
“We know that this is a new variant, it has been seen in other countries but it seems to be quite widespread which suggests that it has got a transmission advantage. Spanish driving licences: Went to my gestor yesterday, complete with all the information needed to get a Spanish driving licence.
I don’t drive in Spain, but thought I’d get one before the dreaded Brexit!
However, he told me that the Trafico have sent out a directive, saying that they are not accepting anymore applications for the licences, even though officially, we have got until the 31st of this month
before anything happens. He had no further information other than this, because like the rest of us, no one knows what is going to happen. He didn’t know if there was going to be an extension.
You might like to include this information in the next issue as I’m sure not everyone is aware of this.

What the BOJA says about the new hours of hospitality in Andalusia: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 12/18/2020 15: 36
The Junta de Andalucía has extended to ice cream parlors and chocolate shops the permit in force from this Friday, December 18, to cafeterias to be able to remain open in the range from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , but without being able to dispense or allow the consumption of beverages alcoholics at that time.
This is established by a modification published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) of the order of the Ministry of Health and Families Order of December 11 on temporary and exceptional measures for reasons of public health in Andalusia for the containment of Covid -19, during the pre-Christmas and Christmas period that has come into effect at 00.00 this Friday .
This order establishes that from this day on, “the establishments that carry out their activity according to the Economic Activities Tax epigraphs 672, 674.6 and 676, intended exclusively for cafeterias, chocolate and ice cream parlors , including similar establishments in cinemas and theaters, may remain open until half an hour before the time limit “in force until 10:30 pm, although” in these establishments the consumption and delivery of any type of alcoholic or spirits during the time slot between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm is strictly prohibited.
As stated by the Board in the order, this extension of hours is authorized “upon the request of the group of establishments called ‘cafeterias’ that the extension of the established hours has not included the possibility for these establishments to develop the main activity that is the object of the same, in other words, the service of those commonly known as ‘snacks’, which usually in accordance with our social habits are not given at the times currently established for catering and hotel establishments ».
The order of the Ministry of Health details that “the ‘snacks’ are associated with the service of confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products, defined and regulated in Royal Decree 496/2010, of April 30, by which it is approved the quality standard for confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products ”.
The opening of the cafeterias in that section from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is a novelty with respect to the measures already announced for the second phase of the de-escalation plan designed by the Board that President Juanma Moreno announced last week, and that They have come into force at 0.00 hours this Friday, December 18.
Measures for Christmas
In addition, mobility between the provinces of the autonomous community, which was restricted to stop the expansion of the Covid-19 pandemic, is once again allowed in Andalusia from 0.00 hours this Friday, and until the next 10 January 2021 .
Similarly, from midnight on Friday, until 0.00 hours on January 10, the hours known as night curfew , by which the movement of people at night is limited, reduces by two hours its current extension and is set between 23:00 and 6:00 .

Spain’s coronavirus vaccine drive set to start on December 27: Spain will begin to administer the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech on December 27, said Health Minister Salvador Illa on Friday. Immunizations will start taking place across all regions, which will receive enough doses to start vaccinating the top priority groups. “The doses will reach all the regions on Saturday the 26th or Sunday the 27th, in coordination with Europe, which will distribute them on the 26th,” said Illa. “All regions will receive the amount allotted to them equitably so they can begin their vaccination process.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-12-18/spains-coronavirus-vaccine-drive-set-to-start-on-december-27.html

Belgian Minister Angers Manufacturers by Tweeting EU’s Covid Vaccine Price List: The price list revealed that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is the cheapest and Moderna is the most expensive, something most people knew. However, the details allow countries that may be negotiating with the vaccine manufacturers to take a harder line. Drug and vaccine prices have always been very closely guarded commercial secrets- but this is the list of what the EU is paying for the vaccines:
Oxford/AstraZeneca: €1.78 (£1.61).
Johnson & Johnson: $8.50 (£6.30).
Sanofi/GSK: €7.56.
Pfizer/BioNTech: €12.
CureVac: €10.
Moderna: $18.

Update- Worldwide Computer Hack, Microsoft Says Its Systems Were Also Breached in the Massive SolarWinds Hack This Week: The massive state-sponsored espionage campaign that compromised software maker SolarWinds causing worldwide outages on Gmail, Google Services, social media sites, etc., also targeted Microsoft Central, as the unfolding investigation into the hacking spree reveals the incident may have been far more wider in scope, sophistication, and impact than previously thought.
News of Microsoft’s compromise was first reported by Reuters, which also said the company’s own products were then used to strike other victims by leveraging its cloud offerings, citing people familiar with the matter.
Characterizing the hack as “a moment of reckoning,” Microsoft president Brad Smith said it has notified over 40 customers located in Belgium, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Spain, the UAE, the UK, and the US that were singled out by the attackers. 44% of the victims are in the information technology sector, including software firms, IT services, and equipment providers. (So perhaps that explains the ransomware attack I had, as reported on earlier this week. -Ed)

Canillas de Albaida Christmas Carol Service: We have been asked whether a Carol Service at Canillas de Albaida can take place, as last year. Sadly, the present regulations make it impracticable to do so this year.
Our Cathedral in Madrid is, however mounting a Carol Service which is being shared on-line at www.anglicanos.es. I attach the notice giving details, and some of you might like to tune in to this.
It is hoped to celebrate a first Service of Christmas on Christmas Eve, and should sufficient attend there will be carols in that service. I hope to send out information on this within a couple of days.
For those whom we will not see over Christmas, the Ministers and Congregation of the Church of St. Barnabas wish you all a happy, tranquil and blessed Christmas.

New measures for the coronavirus- Cafeterias in Andalusia may remain open from 6 to 8 p.m.: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 17/12/2020 19:04
The cafes in Andalusia may remain open in the range of 18:00 to 20:00 hours, provided they do not dispense alcoholic beverages, starting this Friday, December 18, according announced the Minister of Health and Family, Jesus Aguirre.
This measure was communicated by Aguirre at the press conference after the meetings of the territorial alert committees to analyse the situation of the coronavirus pandemic that were held this Thursday in each of the Andalusian provinces.
The extension of the schedule in the section from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is the main novelty with respect to the measures announced for the second phase of the de-escalation plan that come into force at 00.00 hours this Friday, December 18.
New measures from December 18
The mobility between the provinces of the autonomous community to be allowed back in Andalusia beginning at 0.00 hours on Friday, and until 10 January 2021.
In the same way, the hours known as the curfew night, by which the movement of people at night is limited, reduces its current extension by two hours and is fixed between 23:00 and 6:00.
The catering services may also make home deliveries until 11:30 p.m.
Also starting at 0.00 hours this Friday, the catering and hotel establishments will be able to remain open until 18.00 hours, as before, and reopen from 20.00 hours to 22.30 hours . The novelty announced this Thursday is that, in the period from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the cafeterias will be able to remain open, although without dispensing alcoholic beverages.
In addition, starting at midnight this Friday, the restaurant services will be able to carry out home delivery services until 11:30 p.m. the cut-off , although time for placing orders is set at 10:30 p.m.
The Minister of Health has pointed out that, although the Andalusian Government has for now decided not to harden the measures provided for in this de-escalation plan , it will not hesitate “to make the appropriate decisions that contribute to reducing the incidence of the pandemic in the community as much as possible.” depending on the evolution of the crisis, “in line” with what was discussed this Wednesday in the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.
For this reason, Aguirre has reiterated his call to “prudence” , as well as to “compliance with the rules and sanitary hygiene measures at all times” by citizens. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-nuevas-medidas-junta-cafeterias-andalucia-podran-permanecer-abiertas-18-20-horas-202012171250_noticia.html

Facebook and Instagram disable features in Europe: Facebook notified Instagram and Facebook Messenger users in Europe that some features of the app will be temporarily unavailable. A small prompt has appeared in both the Instagram apps and Facebook Messenger apps for European users earlier this week.
The message that the users received noted that some features of the said apps are not available to comply with the new rules for messaging services in Europe.
Facebook does not outline what specific features will be temporarily disabled, but the company does reveal on its support pages that the polls option on both Instagram and Messenger will be unavailable in Europe, as well as the stickers in Instagram and personalized replies on Messenger.
The other missing features may include limiting the files that can be sent on Messenger, changing nicknames, and the ability to share AR effects in direct messages on Instagram.
After this announcement by Facebook was made, it is still not clear when Facebook will lift the restrictions of the features for European users, but a spokesperson of Facebook told The Verge that it will be soon. Why you shouldn’t suck prawn heads during Christmas feast in Spain: Platters of prawns form part of the traditional feast on a Christmas table in Spain and every Spaniard knows that sucking on the freshly removed head is the very best part.

Solidarity Concert in the Church of El Salvador Nerja: “More than 140 families in a situation of request for help due to serious economic difficulties due to business closures due to CORONAVIRUS”
Reading this news deeply moved us and made us take out and clean our tools – art and culture – stored since March, and get ‘down to work’.
The orchestral project “Málaga Camerata” arises from the concern of young musicians to create a space where they can enhance their aspects as ensemble instrumentalists, within an orderly and professional work environment.
Since its foundation, it has been made up of a stable staff of about 20 members. The number is due precisely to the fact that there is a special interest in reproducing classicism and pre-romantic music, with the greatest possible similarity in terms of training.
We know that we cannot help everyone; But we can get 20 of these families to celebrate Christmas this year as well. It is a challenge and it is possible, with your help 20 families can!
Day and hour: December 20 – 1’30pm
Place: Iglesia de El Salvador – Nerja
Address: Paseo de El Balcón de Europa
Donation: 25’00€

DoctorLaptop’s Laptop Tuneup Special: Now until the new year, a full maintenance service for only €50.
If you rely on your laptop for school, shopping or communications and want it running at peak performance, an annual professional servicing is necessary. This is especially true in these current times where people have their laptops on all day. You wouldn’t drive your car till it runs out of oil before servicing it, would you? If you did, the repair would be far more than the cost of the oil change you neglected. Same thing with computers, and laptops in particular.
I do the most comprehensive cleaning and tune-up possible: After an internal cleaning I verify all System files replacing any found to be corrupt, test all hardware and do hard disk sector repairs if needed, use 5 tool malware/adware/spyware removal protocol, update Windows+all drivers+programs, and finally optimize your settings for fastest overall performance. I use a special on-line scanner that will detect and remove malware that normal anti-virus programs cannot detect!
Job usually completed overnight. If you have multiple hard drives, or the hard drive is 1Tb or larger add €20.
Heavily infected comps or those showing error messages need a repair, not this maintenance service.

Barbecue: My favourite restaurateur, Joaquin, is having an open air barbecue at the Caracoles restaurant on the Torrox to Frigiliana road. Sunday 20th December at 13.00, there is a bus service he is putting on from Nerja, live music, as much food and drink as you can manage for 20 euros per head. We have had various tapas lunches there and I’m sure this will be an excellent day out. Tel. 952 00 9599 or 696 89 60 59.

Google sees major services outages two days in a row: Google has been having a rough time this week with service outages. It has now had two days, maybe even three days depending on who you ask, of major downtime.
On Monday, Google’s authentication system went down for about an hour, taking down Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Docs, and most other Google services. Google blamed the outage on “an internal storage quota issue,” which sounds a lot like Google ran out of storage space.
On Tuesday, Gmail started having problems again, which Google’s status dashboard described as “a significant subset of users… seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.” Many reports, like this one from TechCrunch, said emails were instantly bouncing. Rival email service ProtonMail even says some emails sent to Gmail have been “permanently lost” and will need to be sent again.
Google’s Gmail status dashboard says any problems were resolved yesterday (12/15) just before 10pm ET, but this morning there are still reports of disrupted service in the comments on DownDetector. In particular, users who access Gmail through third-party clients seem to be having problems. Junta orders mass Covid-19 screening tests in 32 municipalities across whole of Andalucía: The regional government has confirmed the locations but not yet announced the dates. The Junta de Andalucía has ordered new coronavirus screening sessions in 32 municipalities across the eight provinces of the region as the battle to get the virus under control continues.
In Malaga province the mass tests will take place in the towns of Humilladero and Benamocarra – although dates have not yet been confirmed.
Screening sessions are also planned for Iznájar in Cordoba and the Sevillian municipalities of Tomares, Castilblanco de los Arroyos and La Luisiana.
In Jaén the municipalities of Fuensanta de Martos, Ibros, Cazorla and La Higuera have been selected.
Virus testing will also be carried out in municipalities in the Alto Andarax region in the province of Almería. Specifically in Alboloduy, Alhabia, Alicún, Almócita, Aisdodux, Beires, Bentarique, Canjáyar, Huécija, Íllar, Instinción, Ohanes, Padules, Ragol, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Santa Fe de Mondújar, Terque and Pechina.
In the province of Cádiz screenings will be carried out in Algodonales, as well as in the Huelva municipalities of Villalba del Alcor and Isla Cristina.

Coronavirus vaccines due to arrive in Spain from January 4, says health minister: Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa announced on Monday that the first coronavirus vaccines could start arriving in Spain “from January 4 or 5,” once the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approves a vaccine candidate. The EMA is likely to approve the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech by December 29 at the latest. This vaccine has already been approved for use in the United Kingdom, which began vaccinating priority groups last week.
Spain could start administering the vaccine early next month. Illa said that the “specific calendar” will depend on final approval by the EMA, which will meet in 15 days to analyze the Pfizer vaccine, and again on January 12 to do the same with Moderna’s. Strike forces closure of almost half of the ITV vehicle testing stations in Malaga province: Stoppages have been called by the UGT union for every Wednesday in December to protest the ‘deterioration’ of the vehicle technical inspection company Veiasa.
Four of the nine ITV vehicle testing stations in the province of Malaga have been closed this Wednesday during the second strike called by the UGT for every Wednesday in December.
Another four of the UK MOT-equivalent test centres were working at a reduced capacity as workers protest the blocking of collective agreement negotiations and restructuring of the workforce by the public company Veiasa.
The strikes resulted in the El Viso (Malaga city), Marbella, Mijas and Ronda sites fully closing.
Meanwhile the Algarrobo and Guadalhorce test centres were operating at 60 per cent of capacity, Antequera (50 per cent) and El Palo (30 per cent). Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/16/strike-forces-closure-almost-20201216190421.html

Ransomware Alert by DoctorLaptop: I don’t know if it is related to the problems Google has been having for the last 2 days, but tonight while using Chrome browser on Windows 10 to access Microsoft’s game site ZoneCasino.Vegasworld.com, I encountered a malware attack from the famous and very dangerous “CEBER” family of ransomware. This ransomware is well known for locking users out of their computers and demanding huge sums for the unlock key. If you fail to pay the ransom in 3 days it deletes all your data!
It has been a few years since I have seen an active ransomware attack here in Spain, although I do see pieces of incomplete, inactive ransomware occasionally on client’s computers, lying in wait for the other pieces it needs before initiating an attack. What I encountered was a strong one, arriving complete rather than in parts, downloading onto my laptop without permission as soon as I opened the games website, and immediately attacking on 3 levels simultaneously. Fortunately Windows Security caught the attack, eliminated the threats and alerted me it had removed the threats and suggested I do a full system scan to be sure all malware was gone. I don’t often praise Microsoft, but in this case their security program performed in impressive fashion.
In any case, if you encounter a similar ransomware alert from Windows Security, you probably don’t need to do anything, it will have been fixed by the time you get the alert, but do a Full Scan with Windows Security to be on the safe side. However, if the alert asks you if you want to remove the threat, do so.
Everyone using Windows 10 should confirm their ransomware protection is turned on- go to Settings>Update&Security>Windows Security>Virus&Threat Protection, then scroll down to Ransomware Protection, click on Manage Ransomware Protection, and there find Controlled Folder Access and be sure it is turned on (see pic).
This could be a dangerous trend if Microsoft’s own websites are getting hacked and spreading ransomware.
If you are a victim of ransomware it will lock your screen with a ransom message. Force the computer off using the Power button, and get it to me ASAP, within 24 hrs is best if I am to successfully recover the system, as I will be working against the clock, so to speak. The best protection, as always, is to keep your data backed up onto another device or the cloud.

Andalusia reviews this Thursday the measures for Christmas against the coronavirus: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 15/12/2020 17:12
Andalusia reviews this Thursday, December 17, the measures and restrictions against the coronavirus for Christmas that the president announced last Thursday and that came into force on Saturday. Thus, as announced by the Chairman of the Board, Juanma Moreno, if the data are not favourable, it is possible that certain restrictions that were finally going to be lifted will not be removed.
At stake are from the meetings of ten people on December 24 and 31 , the opening of shops until nine, interprovincial mobility or the curfew.
“If the figures get worse, we will have no choice but to limit some of the actions that we have planned,” announced the Andalusian president in an interview on the COPE chain where he also announced that it will be this Thursday when there will be an ordinary meeting of the expert group pandemic analysis .
At this meeting, the evolution of the data on the health crisis will be analyzed and it will be decided whether to maintain the relaxation of restrictions to stop coronavirus infections or if, on the contrary, the entry into force of more lax regulations is suspended.
The Andalusian Government has always explained that decision-making is not a static matter . President Moreno himself and several senior officials in the Executive have indicated that the figures for the pandemic in Andalusia will be constantly reviewed to adapt the measures to the situation of the health crisis.
De-escalation plan
The de-escalation plan for the measures against the coronavirus designed by Andalusia for Christmas, Moreno stressed, is the first that has been designed in Spain. The Andalusian president announced a plan in two phases. The first, since last Saturday and until Thursday 17, where intraprovincial mobility and shops were open until nine at night. And a second phase from Friday 18 to January 10 with interprovincial mobility and extension of the hours of the hotel business.
However, Moreno affirms that the Board is “concerned.” ” A simple bridge with shops and bars closed at six o’clock in the afternoon has generated rallies, ” says the Andalusian president. “You have to be very responsible,” he added. “The virus is still there and we must proceed with prudence to try to control the pandemic”, has indicated Juanma Moreno. Pirate IPTV News- UK Police Prepare to Send Warnings to Users: Police say they are preparing to send warning notices to more than 7,000 UK residents who are believed to have purchased pirate IPTV subscriptions from North West IPTV. The warnings follow the arrest of a then 28-year-old man in the North-West of England during the summer and the seizure of luxury cars, expensive jewellery, and a pirate IPTV customer database.
Given the current sentencing standards in the UK it seems highly unlikely that a regular subscriber of such a service would receive a custodial sentence of any kind but given the involvement of the police, a criminal record is certainly possible. This, the police and copyright holders hope, will prove to be a sufficient deterrent for those considering a similar subscription in the future.
In late June, subscribers to pirate IPTV service Global / Global Entertainment were given an unwelcome surprise. Rather than seeing the normal array of content on their screens, they were instead greeted by a notice from a police force in the UK.
“This illegal stream has been seized By Norfolk and Sussex Police,” it began. “Watching illegal broadcasts is a crime. Your IP address has been recorded. You are instructed to cease and desist immediately from all illegal media streaming.”

Jupiter Saturn conjunction- How to see the ‘Christmas star’ of 2020: This month, stargazers across the world will be treated to an event that only happens once every 19.6 years, on average. On 21 December, Jupiter and Saturn will appear in the same place in the night sky in an event called a great conjunction.
These two so-called gas giants of our solar system, which are usually bright enough to see with the naked eye even from the light-polluted heart of a city, will align, as seen from Earth, to look like one extremely bright planet. This year, the pair will be just 0.1 degrees apart in the sky, making it the closest such event since 1623. For reference, the diameter of the full moon in the sky spans around 0.5 degrees as we see it from Earth. The next time these planets will be visible this close together in the night sky will be the year 2080. PHOTO:Alan Dyer/VWpics/Science Photo Library. What is the new strain of Covid-19 and should we be worried in Ireland?: A new strain of Covid-19 has been identified in the UK, according to health experts across the Irish Sea.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed the worrying new development in the Commons as he confirmed plans to move London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire into Tier 3.
Speaking in the Commons, Mr Hancock said: “Over the last few days, thanks to our world-class genomic capability in the UK, we have identified a new variant of coronavirus which may be associated with the faster spread in the South of England.
“Initial analysis suggests this variant is growing faster than the existing variants.”
Having just been identified earlier today, there is no clear and concise information about this strain and how it differs from the current strain.
Here’s what we know so far…Continue reading at: https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/what-new-strain-covid-19-23166886

Toughest coronavirus restrictions to be imposed in London: London and surrounding areas will be placed under the highest level of coronavirus restrictions from Wednesday as infections rise rapidly in the capital, Britain’s health secretary said Monday, adding that a new variant of the virus may be to blame for the spread. Under Tier 3 restrictions, the toughest level in England’s three-tier system, people can’t socialize indoors and bars, pubs and restaurants must close except for takeout. People are told to minimize traveling within or to the area, and Hancock said people shouldn’t take trips into central London to do their Christmas shopping. Dutch leader expected to announce tough coronavirus lockdown: The Dutch prime minister is expected to impose a tough month-long coronavirus lockdown Monday night in a speech to the nation after infection rates in the Netherlands rose sharply despite a two-month “partial lockdown.”
Dutch media, citing unnamed government sources, said Prime Minister Mark Rutte will likely order schools to close beginning Wednesday and shut non-essential shops and businesses such as hair salons, museums and theaters starting Tuesday until Jan. 19. Warning to expats as bogus gas technicians claim to be from the council: Council issues warning after reports of bogus gas technicians claiming to be from the local authority have attempted to gain access to people’s homes in Arena – in particular those of expats.
A spokesperson said: “We have learned that there are some people visiting houses within our municipality, especially the houses of foreigners, saying that they are gas technicians and they are going to check the facilities.
“They ask to enter the homes and charge for their inspection, in addition saying they are authorised by the council and even that they are employees.
“All this is false, since the city council has not authorised anyone to visit the houses and inspect the gas installations, much less that they are council staff.
“Please, do not allow technical assumptions to enter your homes to avoid scams,” the council added.
Anyone who visits a property to check facilities must be duly accredited by a company and must have previously been requested. They will carry a photo ID, always check it before allowing them in, even if you have requested assistance.
Anybody who receives a visit from one of these “alleged technicians” is asked to contact the Guardia Civil on 061 or Arenas Council on 952 509 005. Source: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/12/14/warning-to-expats-as-bogus-gas-technicians-claim-to-be-from-the-council/

Andalusia adds 13 deaths from COVID, the lowest figure since November 1: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 12/13/2020 19:09
Andalusia has added 13 deaths from coronavirus this Sunday , the lowest figure since November 1, when 12 deaths were recorded. Thus, the community is also slowly reducing the number of fatalities from the Covid pandemic.
Most of the deaths today have been registered in Cádiz (six) and Jaén (three). In Almería there have been two and in Malaga, one, as in Córdoba. There have been no fatalities in Granada, Huelva and Seville.
The infections , meanwhile, remain around a thousand. This Sunday there are 1,053 new cases registered, which represents an average of 804 daily cases this week . The last one, it should be remembered, there were more than 900 each day on average and the previous one they passed 1,900.
By provinces, Córdoba (173) and Seville (171) are the areas with the most cases this Sunday. They are followed by Cádiz (157); Malaga (154); Jaen (135); Granada (115); Huelva (101); and Almería (47 new infections).
The hospitalized go down
Those hospitalized for coronavirus in Andalusia, as a result of this drop in new cases, continues to decline. Thus, the community has this Sunday 1,329 people admitted for
Covid-19, 89 less than yesterday. This also means that Andalusia already has 60 percent fewer patients hospitalized for the pandemic than those it had at the peak of the second wave, on November 10, when there were 3,478.
In the ICU there is also good news. The Andalusians admitted to intensive care are today 301, on the verge of breaking the ground of 300, something that was not seen in Andalusia since the end of October.
In line with this Sunday’s data, the President of the Board, Juanma Moreno, stressed that “in a month, Andalusia has gone from the maximum incidence peak to being below the average, reducing hospitalized patients by 2,000 and improving situation of the 8 provinces. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-andalucia-suma-13-muertos-coronavirus-cifra-mas-baja-desde-1-noviembre-202012131319_noticia.html

In Malaga, one out of every four Covid-related deaths has been a resident in a care home: Figures show that 26% of deaths in Malaga province were elderly people who lived in care homes and most were infected by asymptomatic workers. Of the deaths registered in the province up to 24 November, 26.8 per cent were residents of these homes. The health authorities have announced 161 such deaths, but the lack of testing carried out in the early months of the pandemic means the real figure is certainly higher. The figure is even more startling when you look at the percentage of deaths among the over-65s: they account for 87.9 per cent of all Covid-related deaths in Andalucía. Most of these victims (73.2 per cent) were aged over 75. Full article:

Brexit talks have been extended again but what does that mean?: The UK and the EU have agreed to continue negotiations over a post-Brexit trade deal, tearing up Sunday’s artificial deadline and promising to “go the extra mile” in an attempt to reach an agreement.
However, Boris Johnson has said that a no-deal scenario is still the “most likely” outcome, with the two sides deadlocked over the key issues of fishing rights and competition rules.
The extension to talks was announced following a phone call on Sunday morning between Mr Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
And although the pair did not publicly set a new deadline to reach an agreement, one date looms above all else: December 31, only 18 days away, when the transition period ends and Britain completes its Brexit transformation — deal or no-deal. So what happens now? Full article: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-talks-deadline-extended-b290876.html

Germany to impose stricter lockdown to battle COVID-19: Germany will close most stores from Wednesday until at least Jan. 10, cutting short the busy Christmas shopping season, as it tightens coronavirus restrictions and tries to rein in the spread of the disease, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday.
Only essential shops such as supermarkets and pharmacies, as well as banks, are to remain open from Dec. 16. Hair salons, beauty salons and tattoo parlours will also have to shut.
Schools will be closed in principle, and employers are asked to close operations or have employees work from home. The sale of fireworks will be banned ahead of New Year’s Eve. Private gatherings will remain limited to no more than five people from two households. For the Christmas holidays, the rule will be eased slightly so that families can celebrate together.
Germany has been in partial lockdown for six weeks, with bars and restaurants closed, while stores and schools have remained open. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-germany/germany-to-impose-stricter-lockdown-to-battle-covid-19-idUSKBN28N068?il=0

Recommendations & Requests

AVG FREE Users- Alert from DoctorLaptop: I am seeing many computers with AVG Free antivirus installed that are having problems installing the latest Windows 10 updates. These units may then fail to start correctly, or they may start to have display problems (distorted screens). If this happens to you and you’d like to fix it yourself do this, follow these steps in order I present them. The fix requires booting from a “recovery” DVD or USB Flash drive, then using System Restore roll back to a restore point from before the last Windows Update restore point, then when that is complete remove the recovery drive, then reboot to Safe Mode and uninstall AVG. Then boot normally and run the AVG Clear Tool (see below). If that does not make sense to you, you probably should not attempt it. Contact DoctorLaptop on 675 993 069 after 11am to get it sorted out.
Since the built-in Windows 10 anti-virus program is as good as any of the other “free” anti-virus programs on the market, I suggest avoiding them and sticking with just the built-in Windows Security.
If you do daily banking and/or shopping you may want better security. In that case I recommend you buy a premium quality anti-virus program; Kapersky and Bit Defender provide the best protection with the least effect on performance. (These are NOT affiliate links, I just believe from experience these are superior products.)
To remove AVG is a 2 step process. First, uninstall the program. Second, you will need to download the AVG CLEAR TOOL from this link https://www.avg.com/en-us/avg-remover. Once downloaded, double click the file to run the tool, and follow the instructions. When it asks permission to reboot into SAFE MODE, choose yes. The computer will restart to SAFE MODE, you’ll need to log in. Then the tool will run automatically. Again, just follow the prompts till the job is done.

Bars in Andalusia may close on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve at one in the morning: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 12/12/2020 08:49h
Andalusian hoteliers may open their premises until later both on the night of December 24 to 25, 2020 and on the night of December 31, 2020 to January 1, 2021. The Andalusian Government has relaxed the time restriction only on these days as a nod to the hoteliers, who have been very belligerent with the restrictions.
This has been stated in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) published this Friday night, allowing the opening of said establishments up to half an hour before the time limit established in the current decree of the President of the Junta de Andalucía, by which establishes measures in the scope of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia in application of Royal Decree 926/2020, of October 25. That is to say, the curfew for those two special days in full Christmas holidays is agreed at 1.30 am, so the bars may be open until 1 in the morning in Andalusia.
The new measures announced this Thursday by the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, indicated certain hours, with a significant stoppage during the afternoon of two hours, to reopen later: from December 18 to January 10 the bars will be able to open until six in the afternoon, stop until eight and reopen until ten thirty at night, which has caused the discontent of the hospitality industry, which have asked to be allowed to open until later, greater capacity and eliminate the closure from six to eight in the afternoon during the Christmas period. However, it seems that both on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the hoteliers are allowed to close half an hour before curfew, a respite for this sector that has been forced to finally draw the blind in some cases, adapt to restrictions and even reinventing itself in order to emerge from this crisis generated by the pandemic. Italy’s staggering virus toll poses uncomfortable questions: Italy has added nearly 29,000 dead since Sept. 1. “Obviously there needs to be some reflection,” Guido Rasi, former executive director of the European Pharmaceutical Agency, told state TV after Italy reported a pandemic-high record of 993 deaths in one day. “This number of nearly 1,000 dead in 24 hours is much higher than the European average.”
Italy added another 649 victims Saturday, bringing its official total to 64,036 — just shy of Britain’s Europe-leading 64,123 dead, according to Johns Hopkins University. Both numbers are believed to greatly underestimate the real toll, due to missed infections, limited testing and different counting criteria. Barcelona concert tests use of same-day COVID-19 screening:
Eager for a live music show after months of social distancing, more than 1,000 Barcelona residents gathered Saturday to participate in a medical study to evaluate the effectiveness of same-day coronavirus screening to safely hold cultural events.
After passing an antigen screening, 500 of the volunteers were randomly selected to enjoy a free concert inside Barcelona’s Apolo Theater.
The other 500 who didn’t get selected were sent home. They will form a control group that will allow the organizers to analyze if there was any contagion inside the concert hall despite the screening with antigen tests, which while not as accurate as other types of tests, do produce results in 15 minutes as compared to several hours, or days, later. Questions and answers so as not to get lost in the new measures of Andalusia against Covid for Christmas : {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 11/12/2020 13: 36h
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, announced this Thursday the new measures to face the coronavirus pandemic during the Christmas holidays. These are the answers to the possible doubts about the restrictions that will take effect from 00:00 on Saturday, December 12, distinguishing two phases, from December 12 to 17 and from Friday, December 18 to Sunday, January 10.
-Can I go to my second residence on the beach?
It depends on the date and place of residence. From midnight this Friday, December 12 until Thursday, December 17 (included) mobility will be allowed between municipalities in the same province. That is, I can go from Cádiz to Conil , but I cannot travel from Seville to Almonte, in the province of Huelva. The tap for mobility between provinces within Andalusia will open on December 18 and until January 10. On those dates, you can go from Córdoba to your second residence in Fuengirola, for example, or from Seville to Rocío.
-If I live in Madrid, can I go to my second residence in Andalusia? Not if you are not visiting a relative. The entry and exit of Andalusia is only allowed for family reunification.
-Can my girlfriend come to dinner on Christmas Eve or New Years Eve? The bride can share a table and tablecloth with my family only if she lives in Andalusia. It is considered as “close friend”, a term that the Ministry of Health does contemplate, but that the Junta de Andalucía has rejected as being ambiguous and “making it difficult to control by those who have to comply with the rules”, as specified by Juanma Moreno .
-And my brother in law? Yes, you can come to dinner on Christmas Eve because it falls within the assumptions of family reunification. Of course, there is a limitation: no more than two family coexistence groups living under the same roof can come together.
-Can I gather ten people at my house on December 30? No. The limit is six people. Only a maximum of 10 people can be grouped in a family home on December 24, 25 and 31, as well as on January 1.
-Can I have a Christmas drink in a bar? Yes. But no more than six people can meet. The hotel business may open at a special split schedule, from morning until 6:00 p.m. and reopening from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
-What time does the curfew end? It depends on the date. Between December 12 and 17, the curfew remains the same as before. At 22.00 hours. As of Friday, December 18, and until January 10, it is extended between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. from December 18 to January 10.
-Can I go to a party? No, unless it does not exceed six people. On Christmas Eve and Christmas the curfew is delayed until 1.30 am.
-Can I go shopping in Seville if I live in Valencina? Yes, but it will have to wait until this Saturday. The trade may open until 9:00 p.m. until January 10.
-Will I be able to go to the gym during Christmas? Yes. As of this Saturday, December 12, the operating hours of sports centers throughout the community will be extended. Currently, since they are not considered essential services, they must close at 6:00 p.m. This schedule is extended until 9:00 p.m. when the incidence of the pandemic decreases (not sure about what this is referring to. -Ed.). Bar and restaurant owners hit out at new Covid-19 measures in Andalucía: The hospitality sector that “just wants to work” has called for the resignation of the Junta’s president Juanma Moreno.
Bar and restaurant owners across Andalucía claim that the Junta’s president, Juanma Moreno, has “sacrificed hospitality” after announcing the new Covid-19 measures on Thursday which will force bars to close for two-hours during the early evening in phase two of the easing of restrictions.
The Horeca trade association has announced it is breaking its relationship with the Junta “because of the mistreatment of the sector” after the measures were published.
During phase one from 12 to 17 December bars and restaurants will have to close at 6pm as now. But during phase two – from 18 December to 10 January they must close for two hours at 6pm but will then be allowed to open again until 10.30pm. BREXIT- Britain is likely to complete its journey out of the EU in three weeks without a trade deal, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday: Von der Leyen was quoted by an EU official as telling leaders of the bloc’s 27 member states attending a summit in Brussels on Friday that prospects for a deal had worsened. “The probability of a no deal is higher than of a deal,” the official said on condition of anonymity. Johnson and Von der Leyen have given negotiators until Sunday evening to break the deadlock over fishing rights and EU demands for Britain to face consequences if in the future it diverges from the bloc’s rules.
Johnson must decide whether the deal on offer is worth taking or the future freedom and domestic political benefits afforded by leaving without one outweigh the economic costs. Full article:

Fake electricity technicians tricked elderly to steal from them:
National Police arrested three men who tricked elderly people, pretending to be electricity technicians, and stole cash and jewellery from their homes in Marbella.
They would call the victims to tell them that there was a problem with their electric supply which was making bills higher than necessary, and get the elderly people to agree to a house call.
Two of them would then visit the house, and while one kept the occupant busy, supposedly testing the electric supply in one part of the house, the other would search other rooms for cash, jewellery and valuables. They had been active throughout Spain, but had settled in Marbella recently, committing crimes along the Costa del Sol. Junta launches helpline to get rid of squatters: Junta de Andalucia has launched a free phone number to help people who find squatters on their property to get rid of them immediately.
The phone number, 900.100.112, will be connected to the Provincial Departments of the Junta in all eight provinces of Andalucia.
The number will be operative from next week and will provide property owners with the necessary legal aid and cooperation from lawyers as well as the police to get squatters out of their homes immediately, whether they have entered their usual place of residence or a second home. Missing cat, Torrox: Bruno has been missing from our home in Pago Manzano Alto, Torrox Campo since Monday night. He has a distinctive tail that is twisted into a knot. He is chipped but very nervous of people, so unlikely to approach strangers. He never usually strays far from our land, or his food bowl, so we’re extremely concerned now. Barbara.

MOONETTE Organic & Aromatic Skincare for 40+
We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing
We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices
New products coming soon – Super Lip Balm & Bulgarian Rose Face Cleanser
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help slow down the ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, improving facial complexion and eliminating blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

New Covid Rules Update Direct From The Junta de Andalucia- Moreno announces a ‘de-escalation’ in two phases and calls for prudence: {Translated from http://www.juntadeandalucia.es}
The Junta de Andalucía has agreed to apply a progressive “de-escalation” in two phases to increase mobility on Christmas dates. This was announced this afternoon by the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, after presiding over the meeting of the COVID-19 expert committee, also making a call for prudence and responsibility: “Let’s not lose respect for the coronavirus”.
The measures that the Andalusian president has announced today imply a relaxation of the limitations decreed on October 30 and translate into a “de-escalation” in two phases.
-A first phase, from midnight this Friday/Saturday December 12 and until December 17 included, when mobility between municipalities of the same province will be possible. On those days, the stores may open until 9:00 p.m. and the hospitality businesses will keep its hours until 6:00 p.m. In this period, the curfew will remain as it has been until now, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
-The second phase will be applied from Friday, December 18. At that time, and until January 10, mobility between provinces will be authorized. In addition, the hospitality businesses may open at special hours in two sections: from morning until 6:00 p.m. and between 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
With this measure, as the president has said, it is intended to avoid that the after-meals are lengthened, ” hours that are very sensitive for contagion because, according to the experts, it is when the greatest relaxation occurs.”
During this period from December 18 to January 10, the rest of the shops may open during their normal hours and the curfew is established between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
-In addition, between December 23 and January 6, you will be able to enter and leave Andalusia to visit family members . The term “relative” has been discarded as it is considered ambiguous and “makes it difficult for those who have to enforce these rules to control.”
-As for the ski resort Sierra Nevada, Moreno has declared that it will open on December 18 with the capacity, schedules and protocols established for the ski and mountain resorts before the Covid-19.
-Regarding residences for the elderly, Moreno has specified that between December 22 and January 7, the elderly may go out to a single family home if the center accredits that during the last 14 days the person has not presented symptoms and with a test negative in the 72 hours prior to departure or a positive serological test, that is, they are immunized. The duration of the stay in the family home must be greater than five days and be under active surveillance of symptoms at all times. To return to the center, you must have a negative test a maximum of 48 hours in advance. UK holidaymakers barred from EU after 1 January under Covid rules: British holidaymakers will be barred from the European Union from 1 January under current Covid-19 safety restrictions, with the EU commission indicating there will be no exemption for the UK.
Within the EEA, or Schengen-associated states, Norway has also confirmed it will bar UK visitors from 1 January, according to the Financial Times.
The imminent bracketing of British tourists with those of other non-EU countries such as Albania and Turkey underlines the potential impact of a no-deal Brexit. EU member states can override the European council recommendations in theory, should they wish to. Spain changes coronavirus test requirements for air travelers, exempts children under six: As well as a PCR test, arrivals in Spanish airports will from today be able to present so-called TMA tests, which give results in a shorter time frame and are cheaper. The difference in practice is that the results come back in around two hours, instead of four for a PCR test, and a TMA test is usually cheaper – just under €100 compared to above €100. As well as exempting children aged under six from the need to present a negative coronavirus test on arrival in Spain, the ministry has also announced that test results can be presented in French or German, as well as in English and Spanish, as was the case up until now. Lawsuits could force Facebook to sell Instagram and WhatsApp: US federal and state competition enforcers have filed lawsuits against Facebook claiming the social media giant abused its dominant position with its acquisitions of messaging services Instagram and WhatsApp. Separate suits filed by the Federal Trade Commission and a coalition of state officials called for the divestment of Instagram and WhatsApp.
“For nearly a decade, Facebook has used its dominance and monopoly power to crush smaller rivals and snuff out competition, all at the expense of everyday users,” said New York state Attorney General Letitia James, who leads the coalition.
“Facebook used its power to suppress competition so it could take advantage of users and make billions by converting personal data into a cash cow.” “Facebook has been spending its time surveilling users’ personal information and profiting from it,” Ms James said. “No company should have this much unchecked power over our personal information, and our social interactions.” Full article: https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2020/1209/1183489-facebook/

Hack Alert- Jabber Video Conferencing Software: If you are using Jabber video conferencing software from Cisco, you should immediately update it.
