New Covid measures in Andalusia: {Full article translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 01/15/2021 22:47
-The expansion of the third wave of the coronavirus has forced the Board to act again, just a week after it announced the new measures for Andalusia . And it is that the cases of contagions and hospitalizations have a very worrying dynamic , which has caused the Andalusian Government to act earlier than expected, since the restrictions that began this Monday, January 11, were to remain until the 24th at 11:59 p.m. hours.
-Instead, everything has been precipitated and the Ministry of Health has met this afternoon with the committee of experts , announcing the president, Juanma Moreno , new measures against the Covid in Andalusia , among which those referring to the curfew at 8:00 p.m., the closure of provinces, shops and bars with hours until 6:00 p.m. and meetings of a maximum of four people both in the private and public sphere.
-Thus, Juanma Moreno , who was the one who appeared before the Andalusians a week ago, has done it again this afternoon, explaining the new decisions adopted by the Junta de Andalucía .
-The Andalusian Government asked the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, to be able to modulate the curfew and even carry out a home confinement , although the new PSOE candidate for Catalonia did not agree to the request . But the Junta has decided that the curfew in Andalusia is at 8:00 p.m. This is how it is going to include it in the BOJA that must be published tomorrow, although clarifying that it is a recommendation waiting for the Government of Pedro Sánchez to agree to be able to fix it before 10 p.m., something that, according to Illa, they cannot currently make the autonomous communities. Even so, Andalusia wants to set it between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. If the Government does not allow it, he would stay from 10pm to 6am.
-Also, with respect to the measures that the Board announced a week ago, there are more important changes. For example, apart from the perimeter fence of the community, now the provinces are also included . In this way, you can only enter or leave each of the eight for justified reasons. What’s more, there will also be perimeter closures of those municipalities that exceed the incidence of 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. The Board will review this data for all municipalities on a daily basis to expand the list.
-And there is more. Closure of non-essential hotels and commerce in the 91 municipalities that have a contagion rate of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. And, if the Government of Spain authorizes it, home confinement in those 91 municipalities .
-There are also news in the number of people for the meetings . For months it was set at six, but from this Sunday the maximum will be four people . And the norm will be both in the private sphere (houses) and in the public (street, parks, bars …) .
-Likewise, shops and bars have their hours reduced. Juanma Moreno last week announced that businesses in Andalusia had close at 20.00, but after the entry into force these measures will be to 18.00 .
-The same will have to do the hospitality industry. Bars and restaurants already had to close at 6:00 p.m. p.m. , but there was the exception of cafeterias , which could remain open until 8:00 , as long as they did not serve alcoholic beverages. Now this rule disappears and all the hospitality will have to close at 18.00 .
-Summary of measures
1. The Andalusian perimeter closure is maintained. You can only enter or leave with just cause.
2. Closing of hotels and shops at 6 pm.
3. Meetings of 4 people, including tables in bars and restaurants.
4. Perimeter closure of the eight provinces.
5. Perimeter closure of the 219 municipalities with a contagion rate greater than 500 per 100,000 inhabitants
6. Closure of non-essential hotels and businesses in the 91 municipalities (of those 219) with a contagion rate greater than 1,000 per 100,000 inhabitants. If the Government of Spain authorizes it, home confinement in those 91 municipalities.
7. Curfew is maintained from 22 to 6 hours. If the Government of Spain authorizes it, it will be from 20 to 6 hours.
8. Pick up of orders in the hospitality industry until 21.30; Orders by phone until 10:30 p.m. and home delivery until 11:30 p.m. If the Government authorizes to advance the curfew, those hours will be adapted.
9. Authorized mobility for federated athletes, judges and referees, for competitions and training. No companions.

The 35 Malaga municipalities which will have their borders shut from Sunday: Travel into and out of municipalities with a Covid-19 incidence rate above 500 per 100,000 people will not be permitted under new rules brought in by the Andalusian government.

Here all non-essential activity will be prohibited, with bars, restaurants and shops set to close.
-Travel into and out of these towns will only be allowed for justified reasons which include caring for a dependant person, health appointments and professional, business or legal obligations.
-These restrictions will come into place at 12.01am on Sunday 17 January.

Updated COVID restrictions will be announced today, Friday.

From what I have read, the Junta de Andalucia wants stricter rules and is considering a return to home confinement, but the central gov’t needs to approve that, and so far have been hesitant to do so.
What has been discussed, that the Junta can enforce, is that the curfew will begin an hour earlier, at 9pm, and possible municipality or health district closures. However, we will have to wait until later today to learn the verdict. -Ed.

Andalusia doubles those hospitalized for coronavirus in just two weeks and already has 1,791 admitted: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 01/14/2021 19:37
-The third wave of the coronavirus in Andalusia, they had already warned from the Board, is explosive. So much so that this Thursday it has broken the second record of Covid-19 infections since the start of the pandemic. If yesterday the highest figure since March was given with almost 7,000 infections, today it is the second highest number of cases since the beginning of the health crisis, 5,723. Even in the worst of the second wave, this figure was not reached.
-Proof that the second wave arrives with great force is that the incidence rate adds points each day. Thus, today it stands at 405 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants when yesterday it was just over 350. To see the speed with which this data grows, it is enough to remember that last week in Andalusia there were 150 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, almost three times less than today.
-In addition, the community is close to the average number of cases in Spain -493- when for weeks Andalusia remained well below that average and in the lowest positions of incidence of the pandemic.
-This growth in cases is directly reflected in the hospital situation, which worsens for another day. Those hospitalized for coronavirus are 1,7092 this Thursday, 94 more than yesterday and 700 more than the same day last week. Furthermore, those almost 1,800 hospitalized for Covid-19 are double the number two weeks ago, at the beginning of the year.
-In the ICU the situation is also getting worse. Andalusia has been adding patients in intensive care for eight days, which this Thursday totalled 296. There are 12 more than yesterday and almost 100 more than at the beginning of the year, just 14 days ago.
-Although the situation of the hospitals is worrying, they have indicated from the Board, for the moment the pressure on the health system is not anywhere near what it was at the peak of the second wave . Then, 3,478 were hospitalized in Andalusia, 528 of them in the ICU. However, with this rate of growth, which now, the mark of the second wave may not be that far.
-For its part, there are 29 deaths in Andalusia due to coronavirus this Thursday. It is a figure that is in the average of what has been registered in the previous days in the community. In fact, Andalusia has been scoring around 30 deaths from the pandemic for three days. Moreno Asks Andalucíans To Stay At Home Where Possible:
President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, pleaded with citizens to “stay at home to the best of their ability” and try “not to multiply unnecessary social gatherings.” The president’s biggest message (in a speech Thursday) in Sevilla was that citizens should avoid unnecessary gathering wherever possible, and not be tempted to turn their homes into “mini-restaurants” by organising “clandestine parties” for people of different households. Earlier, Mr Moreno called on Pedro Sanchez’s government to take a tougher line with coronavirus restrictions and lockdown. Full article:

COVID-19 infection gives some immunity, but virus can still be spread, study finds: People who have had COVID-19 are highly likely to have immunity to it for at least five months, but there is evidence that those with antibodies may still be able to carry and spread the virus, a study of British healthcare workers has found.
Preliminary findings by scientists at Public Health England (PHE) showed that reinfections in people who have COVID-19 antibodies from a past infection are rare – with only 44 cases found among 6,614 previously infected people in the study.
But experts cautioned that the findings mean people who contracted the disease in the first wave of the pandemic in the early months of 2020 may now be vulnerable to catching it again.
They also warned that people with so-called natural immunity – acquired through having had the infection – may still be able carry the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in their nose and throat and could unwittingly pass it on.
“We now know that most of those who have had the virus, and developed antibodies, are protected from reinfection, but this is not total and we do not yet know how long protection lasts,” said Susan Hopkins, senior medical adviser at PHE and co-leader of the study, whose findings were published on Thursday. Dutch government faces collapse over child benefits scandal: The Dutch government will decide on Friday whether to step down over an escalating scandal in which tax officials wrongly accused thousands of parents of fraud, plunging many families into debt by ordering them to repay childcare allowances.
The opposition Labour party leader, Lodewijk Asscher, who was social affairs minister in the previous government, resigned over the affair on Thursday, denying he knew the tax authority was “wrongly hunting down thousands of families” but conceding a failing system had “made the government an enemy of its people”. Andalusia requests the Central Government to advance the curfew at nine at night: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 01/13/2021 20:07
-The Minister of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, Jesús Aguirre, has transmitted today to the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, at the meeting of the Interterritorial Council between autonomous communities, to advance the time of the curfew by one hour, being able to be established at nine p.m.
-Aguirre has indicated that “we have transmitted our request to be able to advance the curfew as a containment measure against the pandemic as well as legal tools to carry it out, although at the moment they have not offered us such a possibility. The Minister of Health and Families has stressed that “measures like that are necessary because we are in a third wave that differs in its virulence from the first and second” and trusts that “the Ministry of Health will reconsider the refusal ” . As you will recall, the Ministry of Health authorized the regions a maximum of two hours to play with a delay or an early curfew, both at the beginning and at the end.
-The counselor, in addition, has asked the central government to reflect on the possibility of applying a home confinement in the face of the exponential increase in cases; that the be prioritized vaccination of people over 80 years of age in their own homes ; and that a framework strategy be worked on to take measures in all the Autonomous Communities in the most cohesive way possible.

Andalusia may tighten restrictions this Friday due to the increase in coronavirus infections: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 01/13/2021 13:33
-The committee of experts that advises the Andalusian Government on the coronavirus pandemic will decide this Friday the 15th to “tighten” the current restrictions in the face of the “worrying” increase in infections and hospital admissions that is occurring in recent days in the community.
-This was announced this Wednesday, in statements to Canal Sur Radio, collected by Europa Press, the Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, who has indicated that the data is “worrying”, with an exponential increase in the accumulated incidence for every 100,000 inhabitants, which yesterday stood at 314 cases. He added that there is also a significant increase in hospital admissions , which in the coming days may mean admissions to the ICU and deaths.
-He insisted that the entire Andalusian Government is very concerned about the evolution of the pandemic in Andalusia in recent days and added that, although we are “moderately well” compared to the rest of Spain , “that cannot be consolation.” And it is necessary to be correct in making decisions in the face of a foreseeable deterioration of the situation.
-In this sense, he said that this Friday the Advisory Committee on high-impact public health alerts will meet in Andalusia to decide “more restrictive measures” than those adopted last week, which will, affect in all probability, the “Mobility”.
*Changes in the measures against the coronavirus*
-After a Christmas in which the measures to contain the pandemic were relaxed – interprovincial and community mobility was opened, commerce was allowed to open normally and the hotel industry until ten thirty with some restrictions from six to eight-, last week control measures were reintroduced .
-Thus, as announced by the President of the Board, Juanma Moreno, interprovincial mobility and between municipalities is maintained right now -except in Campo de Gibraltar- but the community is closed to unjustified entries and exits. This is something that is expected to change this Friday. They have already warned on more than one occasion from the Andalusian Government that one of the first measures could be the perimeter closure of the provinces or, even, of the municipalities.
-This would mean, de facto, a return to the situation that prevailed in Andalusia until before Christmas. Then, it should be remembered, shops had to close at six in the afternoon, except for essential ones, and, in addition, it was not allowed, except for just cause, to leave the municipalities.
-Because in addition, the curfew, which was delayed at eleven o’clock during Christmas, is again at ten as before the holidays. This reinforces the idea that Andalusia is heading towards a situation similar to that which existed in the community at the beginning of December. The difference, the statements of the Andalusian Government seem to point out, seems to be in the trade, which could maintain longer hours for now than before Christmas. The hotel business has closed again at six in the afternoon – except for coffee shops and the like , which can open without serving alcohol until eight.
(In other sources I have seen it suggested that the curfew may be changed, to begin at 9pm rather than 10pm, and that travel between municipalities will again be prohibited . -Ed.)

Covid in Scotland- Tightening of lockdown rules announced: Covid restrictions around takeaway and click and collect services in Scotland are to tighten. Only shops selling essential items – such as clothing, footwear, baby equipment, homeware and books – will be allowed to offer click and collect. Collections must also be outdoors, with appointments staggered to avoid queuing. And takeaways can no longer allow customers indoors, and must instead operate from a hatch or doorway. They also include a ban on drinking alcohol outdoors in level four areas – which includes mainland Scotland and some islands – meaning takeaway pints cannot be consumed on the street or in places such as parks. Finally, the first minister said the wording of the stay at home law will be altered to “close an apparent loophole” by preventing people from leaving home for an essential purpose and then remaining outdoors for non-essential reasons.

Three days of strikes may be called for ITV vehicle testing stations in Andalucía: The UGT union in Andalucía has called for three days of strike action at all ITV vehicle testing stations stations in Andalucía on 25, 26 and 27 January if negotiations with the management company, Veiasa, fail.
“The problem of delays in appointments to take the ITV in Andalucía has not yet been resolved and the average delay time to inspect a vehicle is between two and five months in most stations,” said the union.
According to UGT the lack of personnel is the main reason for this delay, with a shortage of 450 workers across Andalucía.
The appointment delays at the regional government-owned but privately-operated test centres have considerably worsened during the coronavirus pandemic. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202101/13/three-days-strikes-called-20210113183345.html

British drivers in Europe to escape speed camera fines (and vice versa): The UK’s departure from the EU means British drivers snared by speed cameras on roads in Europe will no longer be sent fines. And those Britons, resident in the EU, who return to the UK in foreign registered cars will also avoid fines.
With such big sums of money at stake it’s no surprise some EU countries are intent on negotiating bilateral agreements with the UK to ensure contact details are shared in future.
British drivers who are pulled over by local police in the EU for speeding or other offences will still have to pay their fines, however.

Bugs Head for European Menus After Mealworms Get Green Light:
Dried yellow mealworm, the larval form of the mealworm beetle, is safe for human consumption in both its whole form and as a powder additive, the European Union’s food watchdog said Wednesday, ruling on an application by French insect farmer EAP Group SAS – Micronutris, now known as Agronutris.
The European Food Safety Authority’s opinion is a first step before officials consider whether to approve sales of snacks, protein bars, cookies and other foods containing the bugs as ingredients.
This is the first risk assessment of insects as novel food by Parma, Italy-based EFSA, which has another 14 pending applications for bugs — from crickets to grasshoppers. The watchdog also said allergic reactions to the mealworms are possible, so more research needs to be done.
Europe is at the forefront of the burgeoning insect-startup scene, identifying bugs as part of its sustainable food agenda. EU authorities have poured money into research and factories, and the bloc already allows fish, dogs and cats to eat insect meal. PHOTO:Cyril Marcilhacy/Bloomberg

What’s On

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra! Tell your favourite establishments to post on DigameXtra to get next-day publicity!

Due to the Covid restrictions, to avoid disappointment I suggest you call to confirm events and times before the event. -Ed.

Bands & Acts: Please submit your gig promos, don’t rely on venues to do all your publicity! Many venues and bookers mistakenly think a quick Fakebook post is sufficient to promote a gig, and evidently placing posters out in the streets is a fading tradition, so you are missing out on many potential attendees. Most of those FB posts only have a few likes so obviously are not reaching many people. DigameXtra sends out over 4100 email issues everyday to subscribers, and the website gets another 800 visits per day. That is way better exposure than you are getting in FB posts!!!

Deal between Spain and UK plans to eliminate Gibraltar border checkpoint: The document describing this framework agreement, which EL PAÍS has seen, contemplates demolishing any “physical barrier” between the British Overseas Territory and La Línea in Cádiz.
The “Proposed framework for a future EU-UK legal instrument setting out Gibraltar’s future relationship with the EU” also talks about implementing a double-key system (controlled by both Gibraltarian and Spanish officers) for entry through the port and airport of Gibraltar, which would in effect be joining the Schengen area, a European free-travel zone made up of 26 countries (22 from the EU, plus Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein). As a part of this zone, the international boundary would no longer be at La Verja, but at Gibraltar’s port and airport. The UK is not a part of Schengen. Andalucia Road Closures, Truck Restrictions & Chain Requirements: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated 01/11/2021 11:54
-Up to nine highways present on the morning of this Monday, January 11, cut their circulation in the Andalusian autonomous community as a result of the storm, which forces the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) to keep the black level activated on them, which means that they are impassable, while in another five the use of chains or winter tires -red level- is mandatory, and in another nine the circulation of trucks and articulated vehicles is prohibited.
-Specifically, at the black level – that is, the road is impassable – there are two roads in the province of Almería, one in Cádiz, another five in Granada and one in Seville, according to information from the DGT consulted by Europe Press with updated data at 9.00 am this Monday.
-The impassable roads in the province of Almería are the A-5405 and the A-5406. In the first case, traffic in both directions is cut off between kilometer points 19 and 28, near Las Tres Villas, due to snowfall, and in the second -on the A-5406-, between kilometers 0 and 5 in both ways, as it passes through the municipality of Serón as a result of the ice.
-In the province of Cádiz, the CA-9104 is impassable between kilometer points 0 and 13.3 in both directions, at the height of Grazalema , due to snowfall, while in the province of Seville the same occurs on the SE-179, between kilometers 0 and 43.75 in both directions, in the municipality of Cazalla de la Sierra as a result of the snowfall.
-In the province of Granada there are five roads with impassable sections, all of them attached to the provincial road service of the Junta de Andalucía.
-It is, specifically, the A-317 in both directions at the height of La Puebla de Don Fadrique , between kilometers 59 and 90; the A-337 between kilometers 11 and 36 as it passes through La Calahorra in both directions; the A-395 in both directions between kilometers 32 and 39 at the height of Monachil ; the A-4301 from kilometer 0 in an increasing direction of traffic, and the A-4302 in both directions between kilometers 0 and 4.1, in both cases as it passes through Huéscar. In all cases, it is the snow that motivates these cuts.
-With the red level activated -which implies that the circulation of trucks, articulated vehicles and buses is prohibited, as well as that the use of chains or winter tires is mandatory- there are three roads in the province of Almería, which are the AL-3404 -between kilometers 13 and 23 in both directions at the height of Ohanes through snowfall-, the AL-4404 between kilometers 20 and 28 in both directions as it passes through Gérgal, through the ice, and the AL-5402 between the points kilometers 9 and 28 in increasing direction of traffic at the height of Bayárcal due to snowfall.
-In the province of Granada, the A-317 between kilometers 91 and 113 in both directions at the height of La Puebla de Don Fadrique is found in this situation; and the A-338 between kilometers 22 and 45.3 in both directions at La Calahorra, in both cases due to snowfall.
-Yellow level. Finally, the DGT keeps the yellow level activated on nine roads in the community, which implies that is the circulation of trucks and articulated vehicles prohibited.
-In the province of Almería, the A-1178 is in this situation – between kilometer points 32 and 16 in both directions in the mountain pass Las Menas by ice-; the AL-3102 in both directions between kilometer points 18 and 42 in Velefique due to snowfall; the AL-5407 between kilometers 0 and 8 in both directions in Bacares by ice; the AL-9100 between kilometers 0 and 5 in both directions at the height of Vélez-Blanco; the AL-9101 between kilometer points 0 and 15 in both directions as it passes through María, and the A-9102 between kilometers 0 and 15 in both directions at the height of Vélez-Blanco, in all these cases, by ice.
-Finally, in the province of Granada, the roads with a yellow level in some of its sections are the A-4128 between kilometers 0 and 5 in both directions at the height of Cástaras; the A-4130 between points 11 and 27 at Torvizcón in both directions, and the A-4132 between kilometers 25 and 41 as it passes through Órgiva in both directions, in all cases due to snowfall. Snow and ice disrupt lives, vaccine rollout in Spain: The Spanish capital of Madrid was still trying to get back on its feet Monday after a 50-year record snowfall that paralysed large parts of central Spain and hampered the delivery of coronavirus vaccines.
The blizzard dumped over 50 centimeters (20 inches) of snow in some areas and a cold front was turning mounds of fluffy white into sheets of ice and crusted drifts. At least 700 roads were still not clear enough, half of them unfit for driving without chains.
Temperatures were expected to drop to minus 11 degrees Celsius (12 degrees Fahrenheit) in a large swathe of the country later Monday, according to the national AEMET weather agency, prompting authorities to urge people to exercise caution. Full article:

WhatsApp Scam Alert- A scam impersonates WhatsApp support to steal verification keys: {This is an edited version, not the full article, translated from https://www.laprovincia.es}
A new scam that has been distributed by the WhatsApp messaging application pretends to be the technical service of the platform to obtain the verification keys of the users, informing of an alleged illegitimate login.
In the fraudulent message, cybercriminals try to deceive the user by stating that “a WhatsApp account has recently been registered with his number.” “We cannot determine if the login is legitimate,” they add.
Under this pretext and threatening a supposed “indefinite suspension”, the scammers seek to obtain the six-digit verification codes of WhatsApp that are sent by SMS to identify users.
WhatsApp never writes to users on WhatsApp personally, and if it does (for global ads, but it is very rare) it always shows a green verification indicator visible, as WABetaInfo has recalled, something that was not present in this fraud.

Fury at ‘pathetic nit-picking’ as Dutch police strip the ham out of lorry driver’s lunch and tell them ‘Welcome to Brexit’ in import crackdown:
Dutch police officers have sparked fury after office were filmed laughing at a British truck driver as the officials confiscated the man’s ham sandwiches in line with post-Brexit import rules.
‘Welcome to the Brexit, sir,’ one of the officers says mockingly in the video of the incident, as the driver pleads: ‘Can you take the meat and leave me the bread?’
Footage from Dutch TV showed the border officials confiscating sandwiches and other foodstuffs from drivers entering the Netherlands from the UK.
The EU does not allow for meat, meat products, milk or dairy products to be brought in from countries outside the union for ‘personal consumption’. Andalusia registers 1,100 infections and 8 deaths from coronavirus in the last day: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 01/10/2021 19:59
Saturday shows 1,100 new infections of coronavirus in Andalusia, a third less than that of Friday, according to the part that has just been published by the Ministry of Health and Families of the Board.
-Deaths were also significantly reduced, eight deaths per Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the best figure since January 2, away from the 61 confirmed Friday.
-These data may be skewed by distortions in the count carried over the weekend.
-The picture of the pandemic in the region is summarized in 278,632 positive cases accumulated confirmed by PCR tests or antigen tests from the beginning; 5,362 deaths and 237,252 cured after 225 discharges on the last day.
-Hospitalizations. The most worrying evolution is that of hospitalized patients: 71 more in the last 24 hours, double the previous shift. Thus, the Ministry of Health and Families reported yesterday that 1,311 patients with Covid-19 remain admitted to Andalusian hospitals, of which 229 are in ICU , one more than the day before.
By provinces: in Almería (124 hospitalizations, of which 32 in ICU), Cádiz (234 hospitalizations, of which 35 in ICU), Córdoba (145 hospitalizations, of which 18 in ICU), Granada (199 hospitalizations, of which than 51 in ICU), Huelva (43 hospitalizations, of which 13 in ICU), Jaén (125 hospitalizations, of which 21 in ICU), Malaga (250 hospitalizations, of which 26 in ICU) and Seville (191 hospitalizations, of which 33 in ICU).
Incidence rate
-Andalusia already registers 203.5 active cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the latest data published by the Regional Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA), a Cumulative Incidence (AI) in the last 14 days is still far from the 294 positives of average in Spain .
Jaén is the Andalusian province with the worst rate (261), followed by Almería (237), Cádiz (230), Córdoba (174), Granada (166), Málaga (162), Huelva (126) and Seville (99.9 ).
-The Andalusian Government has already announced that, at the rate that the pandemic is advancing towards a third wave, it is possible that in the coming days the restrictions will have to be tightened and it is foreseeable that, finally, the perimeter closure between the Andalusian provinces will be decreed.
This announcement by the Minister of the Presidency, Elías Bendodo, occurred this Saturday, when the newly announced restrictions for Monday have not yet even entered into force.
-Among other limitations, from this Monday, January 11, Andalusia will be closed to unnecessary or justified trips from other areas of Spain, bars will have their opening hours reduced until six o’clock in the afternoon and cafes and shops, until eight. Travellers affected by cancellations are entitled to a refund of their tickets: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has reminded travel companies, agencies and operators this Sunday that travellers who have been affected by cancellations due to the Filomena snow storm have right to refund of money paid for your tickets.
In this sense, the Ministry has urged them to act flexibly and give the possibility of cancelling or offering alternatives to consumers who may be affected. In the case of airlines, they may offer alternative bonds for the amount of the cancelled ticket. In any case, the acceptance of these vouchers is voluntary for consumers and cannot replace the right to reimbursement.
Likewise, the Ministry indicates that, when the cancellation occurs during the trip, those affected have the right for the company to provide them with the necessary information and assistance. Thus, they should have enough food and drink, two telephone calls or access to email and, if necessary, one or more nights of accommodation, as well as transportation between the airport and the place of accommodation. Dr. Fauci Just Gave This Warning About COVID Vaccine Side Effects and Protection: Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), warned about one COVID vaccine side effect that’s been seen in a handful (21) of individuals so far: severe allergic reactions.
Though the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have been praised for their high efficacy rates, Fauci admitted that medical experts are still uncertain whether or not they’re capable of preventing asymptomatic spread.
In addition to questioning the vaccine’s efficacy against asymptomatic infection, Fauci said, “It is conceivable that a vaccinee could be protected from being ill but still has replicating virus in their nasal pharynx.” PHOTO:NIAID. Another new coronavirus variant found in Japan: Another new variant of the novel coronavirus has been found in Japan, the health ministry said Sunday.
The new mutant strain, which is partly similar to different variants reported in the U.K. and South Africa, was detected in four infected people who arrived from Brazil, the ministry said.
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) said there was no evidence at present that the new variant was highly infectious, but it was investigating whether it could cause severe symptoms and whether or not it is resistant to vaccines.

At least three people die in Spain’s worst snowstorm in 50 years: The Spanish government has urged people to stay at home after at least three people died during the worst snowstorm to strike the country in 50 years. Madrid and the surrounding region were brought to a frozen standstill, and hundreds of motorists were left trapped in their cars.
Storm Filomena hit Spain on Friday, bringing snowfalls not seen in Madrid since 1971, according to the state meteorological office, Aemet. The snow continued overnight and into Saturday, by which time 50cm had fallen in parts of the Madrid region.
A man and a woman drowned near the Andalucian town of Fuengirola after their car was swept away by a swollen river in the early hours of Saturday, and a man died in the village of Zarzalejo in Madrid region after becoming buried in the snow. Don’t miss Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury shine in a triple-conjunction this weekend: It happens after sunset on Sunday, Jan. 10. Low in the southwestern evening sky just 30 to 45 minutes after sundown, we’ll be treated to what might be referred to as a celestial summit meeting, a triple conjunction, with the three planets fitting within a circle smaller than 5 degrees.
Brilliant Jupiter (magnitude –1.9), medium-bright Mercury (-0.9) and dimmer, yellow-white Saturn (+0.6) will be contained within a 5-degree circle from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12, appearing closest together on Sunday evening (Jan. 10). Royals Reject Fakebook, Idiotgram & Twits: Harry and Meghan quit social media for good. The couple have decided to abandon social media altogether – including to promote their non-profit Archewell, according to The Times. They have ‘no plans’ to use social media and it is ‘very unlikely’ that they will ever return to platforms in any personal capacity, a source claimed. Last year Meghan said social media users were like ‘people addicted to drugs’ during a virtual summit for American publication Fortune. Elon Musk advises people to ditch Facebook/WhatsApp and use Signal: Tech CEO Elon Musk (owner of Tesla) has urged his almost 42 million Twitter followers to use secure messaging app Signal instead of Facebook products including WhatsApp. In a series of tweets, Musk shared a meme referencing Facebook’s role in the spread of misinformation leading to the attack on Congress this week and suggested people should use the Signal app.
The tweets seem to have been prompted by a recent change to Facebook’s privacy policy. As reported by The Hacker News, the new updates allow more sharing of data between Facebook and its partner company WhatsApp, including the sharing of phone numbers, interactions on the platform, information about mobile devices used to access the service, and IP addresses. If WhatsApp users do not agree to the data sharing, their accounts are disabled.
(Editor’s Note: In the EU, WhatsApp users have a bit more security as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, https://gdpr-info.eu/) limits, to a small degree, how much private data WhatsApp may share with it’s “partners”. However, as Facebook owns WhatsApp, most of your private data may still be shared between these two companies as GDPR exempt “internal operations communication”.)

What’s On

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra! Tell your favourite establishments to post on DigameXtra to get next-day publicity!

Due to the Covid restrictions, to avoid disappointment I suggest you call to confirm events and times before the event. -Ed.

For the current official Covid restrictions, translated directly from the Junta de Andalucia site, see the news section in the Friday issue of DigameXtra, https://digamextra.com/2020/12/11/digamextra-no-1811-friday-dec-11th-2020/

Trapiche Market: Trapiche market is a farmers’ and artisan market hosted at the beautiful Jardines del Trapiche venue. It’s a great place to find unique and personal gifts as well as your every day essentials.
Lots of stalls to discover, you will find old favourites, and new ones too!
The market is open from 9:30am-1:30pm every Tuesday
Carretera Benamargosa, 0.5 Km, 29718 Velez-Malaga.
There are stalls with vintage clothing; hand turned olive wood bowls and other items; natural worm fertiliser for the garden; hand-painted Andalucian tiles and ceramics; handmade cards and embroidered items that can be made to order; original artwork and photography; fresh fruit & veg; delicious cakes, pies, pastries & artisan chocolates; garden & house ornaments; large selection of fiction and non-fiction books; handmade jewellery and more. We’re spoilt for choice! You can also support Axarquía Animal Rescue with their tombola and meet some of the animals available for adoption.
View houses in your area, discuss property management or selling your house with BluCee. Visit Judy to have your clothes altered or commission new ones, she’s also selling cloth masks.

UPDATED New COVID measures with more details- bars close again at six in the afternoon except for coffee shops that will close at eight:
{Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 01/08/2021 17:31
After the relative opening of the hotel industry during the Christmas holidays, restrictions on bars and restaurants throughout Andalusia return, according to the decision adopted by the committee of experts that monitors the pandemic in the autonomous community.
-The bars that sell alcoholic beverages will have to close at six o’clock in the afternoon, as before Christmas, except for the cafeterias, which may remain open until 8 p.m. as long as they don’t serve alcohol after 6pm.
-Social and family gatherings are limited to a maximum of six people, both in bars and restaurants and in private homes, the same restriction that has been maintained at Christmas.
-The measures will come into force at zero hours next Monday and will be reviewed within fifteen days by the committee of experts, on Monday, January 25.
-The measures also establish that food may be collected in catering establishments until 9:30 p.m. and at home until 11:30 p.m. by requesting it before 10:30 p.m.
-The extended schedule from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. that was implemented in the last weeks of December will be cancelled when it ends next Sunday.
-The curfew, which forces people to confine themselves to their homes if there are no reasons considered unavoidable, is brought forward from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. and continues until 6 a.m.
-Restrictions are tightened in “a difficult time for the rebound of the pandemic”, in which “infections are on the rise and the reviews are that” the new wave is tougher due to the coincidence of cases of flu and other pathologies with the Covid-19 ”, according to the Andalusian president. The events happened at around 9pm on Thursday night in the Torremuelle area of the town. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202101/08/hooded-beat-victim-during-20210108135714.html

Shocking difference in Butano Gas Bottle Prices: In a recent investigation into the shocking difference in bottled gas prices (Orange bottles, new vs old styles), the exact cost can be revealed.
Consider the shock though when realising that a normal old-style all metal bottle is 12.70 euros and the new one which does look modern is 16.85 euros!
In fairness to Repsol, there may be customers who can now easily move a gas bottle with its big plastic handles and lighter weight, but will those people pay nearly 30 per cent more per bottle? (No mention of if both styles contain the same amount of gas? -Ed.) Full story:

Where have all the buskers gone?: In difficult financial times you usually see buskers and street performers plying their trade. Since the Covid controls arrived I have seen panhandlers but no buskers. Anyone have firsthand knowledge if street performers are being prevented from working? Naythan, Torrox Costa. Andalusia may toughen measures to curb the coronavirus starting next Monday: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 01/07/2021 15:55
-The Councilor for Health of the Board, Jesús Aguirre, said this Thursday that “possibly” that is the scenario taking into account the “current trend of infections”, which has experienced a significant increase in recent days. During a visit to the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Malaga (Clinical), the counselor has avoided explaining what the changes will consist of, claiming that everything will depend on the recommendations of the experts at the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Public Health Alerts of Alto Impact, which will take place tomorrow, Friday. According to Aguirre, as since the beginning of the pandemic, analyzed day by day multiple indices have been , which are the ones that guide them in making decisions. “Today there are 2,687 positive cases in Andalusia. It is an important increase that gives us an idea of ??the trend and the importance of taking appropriate measures ”, said the counselor.
-Vaccination- Aguirre, who has been accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency, Elías Bendodo, and the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, has also advanced that between January and February Andalusia will receive 113,500 doses of Moderna vaccine whose arrival in the community will begin to be finalized next week.
The counselor recalled that “unlike that of Pfizer, you have to wait 28 days instead of 21 between the first and second dose, but that the maintenance conditions are more lax, being able to stay between 2 and 8 degrees and during longer .
Added to those of Pfizer, Andalusia would have more than 400,000 people vaccinated in the first quarter of the year, which represents only 6 percent of the population. The counselor has recognized that it is a very small percentage, although he denied any deficiencies in the vaccination campaign.
“Our problem is that we have a vaccine deficit,” Aguirre pointed out, “we have qualified personnel plenty of to do it, to give 690,000 vaccines if necessary. “If we have given two million flu vaccines in October and November, how can we not get 70,000 vaccines?”, He questioned.
In this sense, he has asked the central government to increase supply and ensure that a greater number of doses reach Spain and Andalusia from Europe, “regardless of the laboratory.”
During his appearance, Jesús Aguirre has advanced that the Andalusian Government hopes to reach this Monday “cruising speed” in the vaccination process , with the administration of 13,000 daily doses , including weekends. “The speed of vaccination is being correct and now – after Christmas – it will accelerate. This is like a marathon and it takes time ”, he stressed.
Regarding the dynamics of the process, the counselor explained that the have been prioritized weakest links in the epidemiological chain , starting with residences and later with homes with dependents. The will also join the vaccination campaign mobile units that are currently conducting massive tests on the educational community .
-British strain- On the other hand, cases of the new variant of Covid-19 from the United Kingdom continue to increase. Aguirre has affirmed that the strain “already lives with us” and that the number of confirmed cases in the region is already 24 (eleven in Malaga, six in Seville, four in Cádiz and three in Granada). “They no longer come from the United Kingdom or Gibraltar, but from contacts within the community,” he pointed out, calling not to lower our guard due to the contagion capacity of this variant, 70 percent higher. Pirate IPTV Community Raises The Alarm Over Hacks and Extortion: IPTV providers and sellers are again being hacked by an unknown individual demanding ransoms payable in bitcoin. However, it now appears that paying off the hacker doesn’t always settle the matter. Even more interesting is that fingers are being pointed towards someone potentially ‘involved’ with a company that offers software solutions, a claim the company itself denies.
Due to their nature, pirate IPTV service operators and resellers tend to operate in the shadows, cautiously guarding their own identities and those of their users.
Aside from the few cases where such entities find themselves targeted by legal action or even the police, exposure is a rare event. However, a couple of years ago a new threat emerged after several IPTV providers were targeted by a hacker. This threat has returned and may cause problems with the pirate IPTV providers delivering their services to clients.
