Bands & Acts: Please submit your gig promos, don’t rely on venues to do all your publicity! Many venues and bookers mistakenly think a quick Fakebook post is sufficient to promote a gig, and evidently placing posters out in the streets is a fading tradition, so you are missing out on many potential attendees. Most of those FB posts only have a few likes so obviously are not reaching many people. DigameXtra sends out over 4100 email issues everyday to subscribers, and the website gets another 800 visits per day. That is way better exposure than you are getting in FB posts!!!

At least three people die in Spain’s worst snowstorm in 50 years: The Spanish government has urged people to stay at home after at least three people died during the worst snowstorm to strike the country in 50 years. Madrid and the surrounding region were brought to a frozen standstill, and hundreds of motorists were left trapped in their cars.
Storm Filomena hit Spain on Friday, bringing snowfalls not seen in Madrid since 1971, according to the state meteorological office, Aemet. The snow continued overnight and into Saturday, by which time 50cm had fallen in parts of the Madrid region.
A man and a woman drowned near the Andalucian town of Fuengirola after their car was swept away by a swollen river in the early hours of Saturday, and a man died in the village of Zarzalejo in Madrid region after becoming buried in the snow. Don’t miss Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury shine in a triple-conjunction this weekend: It happens after sunset on Sunday, Jan. 10. Low in the southwestern evening sky just 30 to 45 minutes after sundown, we’ll be treated to what might be referred to as a celestial summit meeting, a triple conjunction, with the three planets fitting within a circle smaller than 5 degrees.
Brilliant Jupiter (magnitude –1.9), medium-bright Mercury (-0.9) and dimmer, yellow-white Saturn (+0.6) will be contained within a 5-degree circle from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12, appearing closest together on Sunday evening (Jan. 10). Royals Reject Fakebook, Idiotgram & Twits: Harry and Meghan quit social media for good. The couple have decided to abandon social media altogether – including to promote their non-profit Archewell, according to The Times. They have ‘no plans’ to use social media and it is ‘very unlikely’ that they will ever return to platforms in any personal capacity, a source claimed. Elon Musk advises people to ditch Facebook/WhatsApp and use Signal: Tech CEO Elon Musk (owner of Tesla) has urged his almost 42 million Twitter followers to use secure messaging app Signal instead of Facebook products including WhatsApp. In a series of tweets, Musk shared a meme referencing Facebook’s role in the spread of misinformation leading to the attack on Congress this week and suggested people should use the Signal app.
The tweets seem to have been prompted by a recent change to Facebook’s privacy policy. As reported by The Hacker News, the new updates allow more sharing of data between Facebook and its partner company WhatsApp, including the sharing of phone numbers, interactions on the platform, information about mobile devices used to access the service, and IP addresses. If WhatsApp users do not agree to the data sharing, their accounts are disabled.
(Editor’s Note: In the EU, WhatsApp users have a bit more security as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, https://gdpr-info.eu/) limits, to a small degree, how much private data WhatsApp may share with it’s “partners”. However, as Facebook owns WhatsApp, most of your private data may still be shared between these two companies as GDPR exempt “internal operations communication”.)
