Sexual consent law crisis may be last straw for Spain’s divided government:
– As elections loom, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been forced into firefighting mode, with his embattled left-wing coalition stretched to breaking point by a litany of bitter disputes.
– And since his Socialists formed a government three years ago with the hard-left Podemos, the points of friction have been many, including Spain’s U-turn on Western Sahara, arms deliveries to Ukraine and the transgender rights law.
– But the latest falling out, which centres on changes to a landmark law to fight sexual violence that has been championed by Podemos, appears to be the most serious yet. Known as “Only yes means yes”, the law came into force in October. It fulfilled a key left-wing pledge to address public outrage over the light sentences initially handed down in a notorious 2016 gang rape called the Manada (or ‘wolf pack’) affair.
– But changing the criminal code paradoxically ended up reducing penalties for certain types of sexual crimes, reportedly freeing some 40 offenders and allowing 400 others to have their sentences reduced. Feijóo calls for elections now because the Sánchez government “has collapsed”: {Translation, summary}

– A report by the Andalucia Audit Chamber denounces that the Andalucia regional government only executed 10.37% of the Next Generation European funds in 2021 and 4.99% as of May 2022. This body criticises the fact that the Andalusian government has not drawn up manuals to coordinate the application of the criteria for all the entities that manage and execute European funds.
– This report does not audit the destination of the European funds, but it does audit the means and resources provided by the Junta in order to take advantage of the Next Generation funds which, as of 31 May 2022, amounted to 3,610 million euros. These funds are mostly managed by the Ministries of Development, Educational Development, Equality, Finance and Agriculture.
– After learning of this report by the Chamber of Auditors, the Junta has stated that it has already activated 40% of the 4,000 million euros of European funds allocated in total by the Spanish Government to Andalucia.
– In a meeting with businessmen in the Chamber of Commerce of Seville, the Minister of Finance, Carolina España, explained that the measures that Andalucia has to implement with the European funds are basically subsidies and tenders.
– To date, the Regional Government has published 74 calls for subsidies for an amount of 997 million euros (to be implemented between 2021 and 2026), most of which correspond to the calls of the Ministries of Industrial Policy and Energy (27%), Employment (17%) and Development (16%).
– Regarding tenders, the Regional Government has called for contracts and tenders under the European funds of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism for a total of 348 million euros for 271 contracts and has already awarded 200 million euros, most of which correspond to projects of the Regional Ministry of Health (118 million), said the Minister.
– The president of the Andalucia Businessmen Confederation (CEA), Javier González de Lara, has warned that companies have not received more than 15 percent of the European Next Generation funds, and has asked for the Chamber of Auditors’ report to be complied with, urging the Junta to speed them up.
– Given the seriousness of the Chamber of Auditors’ report, the PSOE has criticised Juanma Moreno’s government for its “lack of execution” of “billions” of European funds due to its “management incapacity”.

Alarming Rise In Malaga Death Rates:
– Although 2020 is etched in the collective memory as a tragic year because it marked the start of the pandemic, 2021 was even more cruel as there were 550 more deaths than in the previous year (a relative increase of 3.9 per cent) and nearly 2,000 more (15.4 per cent) than in 2019.
– Diseases of the circulatory system (for example heart disease) were by far the most frequent cause of death in Malaga, responsible for 4,282 deaths. Applications for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa Are Now Open:
– All foreign citizens attracted by remote work are now eligible to head to Spain and legally work for clients and companies located outside this country after Spanish authorities have confirmed that applications for Digital Nomad visas are officially open.
– The minimum requirement for this kind of visa will be between €2,000 and €3,000 monthly, according to a Business Insider report. In November, the Spanish Parliament approved new changes for start-ups and digital nomads as part of efforts to reduce Corporation Tax for these categories from 25 per cent to 15 per cent in the first four years of their stay in Spain.

– Mercadona. The basic salary of its full-time workers (40 hours a week) is 1,507 euros gross per month in 12 payments. Part-time contracts start at 565 euros gross per month, in the case of working 15 hours a week, up to 753 euros gross per month if they work 20 hours a week.
– Carrefour and Aldi. Basic staff: 14,880.52 euros per year in 12 payments, equivalent to 1,240 euros per month. Professionals: 15,326.94 euros per year in 12 payments, i.e. 1,277 euros per month. Coordination professionals: 16,706.35 euros per year in 12 payments, equivalent to 1,392 euros per month.
– El Corte Inglés. Base Staff (less than one year of experience): 15,027 euros per year, which is equivalent to about 1,250 euros per month, in 12 payments. Basic staff (one year or more experience): 15,300 euros per year, i.e. 1,275 euros per month, spread over 12 payments. Professional (3 years or more): 16,320 euros per year, i.e. 1,360 euros per month, spread over 12 payments. Professional (6 years or more): 18,360 euros per year, 1,530 euros per month (12 payments). Professional (12 years or more): 20,400 euros per year, about 1,700 euros per month, in 12 payments.
– DIA Supermarkets. According to the update of their collective bargaining agreement, supermarket staff have a fixed salary of up to 23,847 euros per year, equivalent to around 1,700 euros in 14 payments, and 1,987 euros per month, in 12 payments. The Return Of CANCELLED Roseanne Barr, she takes cancel culture head on in stand-up comedy comeback- ‘I cannot let a–holes win’:
– Barr, who was canceled in May 2018 after tweeting a racist remark about Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, is making her comeback on Fox Nation after a slew of apologies and attempts to set things right went awry. Roseanne Barr is determined not to be silenced anymore.
– Barr faced an onslaught of backlash for the tweet, leading to smears from her co-stars and ABC canceling her hit namesake show “Roseanne,” instead, televising the spinoff series, “The Conners” without her. “I got fired because I racially misgendered somebody I thought was a White woman,” she joked during the special.
– The legendary actress and comedienne is fighting back against cancel culture with her return to stand-up, bringing fans a routine that’s bolder and more offensive than ever before. “I guess something’s in me. I just cannot let a–holes win. I’m not going to,” she said on stage in the upcoming Fox Nation exclusive. Looking out over her live audience, the 70-year-old star, asked, “Where are my peeps that are going to get really offended if I do not offend everybody?” The crowd erupted in cheers and Barr, with a smile, pledged, “I’m going to get them all tonight.”
