SPAIN

A new storm predicted- these will be the most affected areas: {Translation, summary} 12.02.2023 – 15:36h
– As of Monday, a deep polar trough will move west of the Peninsula, which will cause significant changes in the weather situation as of Tuesday, especially in the area around the Strait of Gibraltar and on the Mediterranean coast.
– According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), from Monday high clouds will begin to enter the southwest of the peninsula, and on Tuesday afternoon, a mass of unstable air will be located to the south of the peninsula. “Everything seems to indicate that a DANA (isolated depression at high levels) or cold squall will be generated between the south of the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco”, which would lead to “a new rainstorm, which would be heavier on the Mediterranean side and in the area around the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea”, they add.
– The Aemet does not rule out that this rainfall in the southwest quadrant and the Mediterranean area “will extend to the rest of the Peninsula”.
– On Wednesday, this squall is likely to leave rain, especially in areas of Extremadura, Andalucia, western Castilla-La Mancha, points of the central area, as well as in other areas, except in the far north, where no rain is forecast for these days. Spain health workers hold huge Madrid protest over state of health system:
– A regional government spokesman put the number of people who marched through the streets of central Madrid at 250,000 while organisers put it at closer to 1 million.
– Thousands of health workers also demonstrated in Santiago de Compostela, in northwestern Spain on Sunday, calling for the preservation of the public health system. Police said 20,000 took to the streets.
– Spain’s health workers protested in Madrid on Sunday over what they say is the destruction of the public health system by the conservative regional government. The Madrid government has been the target of criticism in recent years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, over poor staffing in hospitals and primary healthcare centres. Protesters say it is dismantling public health services and favouring private health providers. Sexual consent law crisis may be last straw for Spain’s divided government:
– As elections loom, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been forced into firefighting mode, with his embattled left-wing coalition stretched to breaking point by a litany of bitter disputes.
– And since his Socialists formed a government three years ago with the hard-left Podemos, the points of friction have been many, including Spain’s U-turn on Western Sahara, arms deliveries to Ukraine and the transgender rights law.
– But the latest falling out, which centres on changes to a landmark law to fight sexual violence that has been championed by Podemos, appears to be the most serious yet. Known as “Only yes means yes”, the law came into force in October. It fulfilled a key left-wing pledge to address public outrage over the light sentences initially handed down in a notorious 2016 gang rape called the Manada (or ‘wolf pack’) affair.
– But changing the criminal code paradoxically ended up reducing penalties for certain types of sexual crimes, reportedly freeing some 40 offenders and allowing 400 others to have their sentences reduced. Under Spanish law, a sentence can be retroactively modified if changes to the penal code benefit the convicted offender.
– In a bid to stem widespread public anger over the loophole, the Socialists announced in late January they planned to reform the law.
They presented a bill to that end earlier this week but Podemos has resolutely rejected the Socialists’ proposal, saying their bill rips the heart out of the law and effectively returns to the “criminal code of the wolf pack”. Feijóo calls for elections now because the Sánchez government “has collapsed”: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Partido Popular and leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, spoke this Sunday at an event of his party in Seville and called for elections to be called in the face of what he considered “the collapse” of the current government led by Pedro Sánchez.
– Specifically, Feijóo urged the head of the Executive to call general elections just after the regional and municipal elections on 28 May to avoid putting Spaniards through “this embarrassment” for ten months. In his speech, Feijóo stressed that “it doesn’t matter who governs because it doesn’t matter who legislates. When lack of preparation is combined with arrogance, the result is a disaster”.
– The words of the former president of the Xunta made reference to the controversy of the ‘only yes is yes’ law, and that latest scandal, of the brand new suburban trains of Asturias and Cantabria, which do not fit in the tunnels, thus wasting hundreds of millions of euros.
– Regarding the ‘only yes is yes’ law, Feijóo said that it is the biggest legislative “botched job” that has ever taken place in our country. In this regard, the president of the PP says that the reform now proposed by the PSOE is a copy of the one his oposition PP party presented in December, and wonders why “they did not listen to anyone when we warned them” and why “they are incapable of apologising to the victims”. The popular leader urged the government parties to “stop pointing fingers at each other, assume their responsibilities…” “The government is in a situation of collapse and everything goes wrong for it”, Feijóo insisted, “we go from humiliation to humiliation”, he added, and recalled that there are “trains that do not arrive where they have to arrive, trains that do not take the track they have to take and trains that do not fit in the tunnels”
– “Spain has to take a step forward because it must leave behind the past, which is the lack of management capacity, the lightness with which complex issues are dealt with, the arrogance that does not admit criticism or the continuous confrontation in Spanish society. All of this is represented by the Government”, said Feijóo, who pointed out that “Spain is the country (in the EU) that has lost the most purchasing power; the Government is out of touch with reality”.
– With regard to healthcare, Feijóo said: “In healthcare, they are not creating medical posts, they are not expanding the number of MIRs, there are no primary care doctors, there are no paediatricians, and then they say we, the PP party, are to blame for this. Strange conclusion”. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5100515/0/feijoo-pide-elecciones-ya-gobierno-sanchez-colapsado/

ANDALUCIA

So What Has Become Of The 3,610 Million Euros In EU Recovery Funds Andalucia Received? Chamber of Auditors’ Report Blames “Management Incapacity”: {Translation in full}
– A report by the Andalucia Audit Chamber denounces that the Andalucia regional government only executed 10.37% of the Next Generation European funds in 2021 and 4.99% as of May 2022. This body criticises the fact that the Andalusian government has not drawn up manuals to coordinate the application of the criteria for all the entities that manage and execute European funds.
– This report does not audit the destination of the European funds, but it does audit the means and resources provided by the Junta in order to take advantage of the Next Generation funds which, as of 31 May 2022, amounted to 3,610 million euros. These funds are mostly managed by the Ministries of Development, Educational Development, Equality, Finance and Agriculture.
– After learning of this report by the Chamber of Auditors, the Junta has stated that it has already activated 40% of the 4,000 million euros of European funds allocated in total by the Spanish Government to Andalucia.
– In a meeting with businessmen in the Chamber of Commerce of Seville, the Minister of Finance, Carolina España, explained that the measures that Andalucia has to implement with the European funds are basically subsidies and tenders.
– To date, the Regional Government has published 74 calls for subsidies for an amount of 997 million euros (to be implemented between 2021 and 2026), most of which correspond to the calls of the Ministries of Industrial Policy and Energy (27%), Employment (17%) and Development (16%).
– Regarding tenders, the Regional Government has called for contracts and tenders under the European funds of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism for a total of 348 million euros for 271 contracts and has already awarded 200 million euros, most of which correspond to projects of the Regional Ministry of Health (118 million), said the Minister.
– The president of the Andalucia Businessmen Confederation (CEA), Javier González de Lara, has warned that companies have not received more than 15 percent of the European Next Generation funds, and has asked for the Chamber of Auditors’ report to be complied with, urging the Junta to speed them up.
– Given the seriousness of the Chamber of Auditors’ report, the PSOE has criticised Juanma Moreno’s government for its “lack of execution” of “billions” of European funds due to its “management incapacity”.

MALAGA

Alarming Rise In Malaga Death Rates:
– Although 2020 is etched in the collective memory as a tragic year because it marked the start of the pandemic, 2021 was even more cruel as there were 550 more deaths than in the previous year (a relative increase of 3.9 per cent) and nearly 2,000 more (15.4 per cent) than in 2019.
– Diseases of the circulatory system (for example heart disease) were by far the most frequent cause of death in Malaga, responsible for 4,282 deaths. This was already the most common cause, but the numbers increased by 3.9 per cent in 2021 compared with 2020. The most striking is the increase of 11.7 per cent compared with the year before the pandemic.
– Within this large group of pathologies, the increase in deaths from hypertensive illnesses was notable (553 deaths, 14.5 per cent more than in 2020 and 54.5 per cent more than in 2019) as was that of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), accounting for 502 deaths, 10.1 per cent more than in 2020 and 32.4 per cent more than in 2019. USA

US jet shoots down unidentified flying object over Canada:
– The move comes a day after US planes took similar action over Alaska.
– A spokesman, Maj. Olivier Gallant, said both Canadian and US warplanes operating as part of NORAD had been deployed. On Twitter, Trudeau then announced: “I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. @NORADCommand shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and US aircraft were scrambled, and a US F-22 successfully fired at the object.”
– The unidentified flying object was the third known to have violated North American airspace in the past two weeks. Full article: https://english.elpais.com/usa/2023-02-11/us-jet-shoots-down-unidentified-flying-object-over-canada.html

In a related story…
Now China Says It Has Spotted a UFO:
– Chinese authorities are reportedly preparing to shoot down an “unidentified flying object” spotted in the skies near the eastern Shandong Province. Maritime authorities announced on Sunday that the object was spotted near the city in Rizhao, according to the state-run Global Times newspaper.
– The newspaper said authorities were preparing to shoot the object down, and were urging fishermen in the vicinity to be safe.
– It comes after U.S. F-22 fighter jets shot down three objects in the airspace above the U.S. and Canada this month.
– Authorities said one that was shot down off the South Carolina coast on February 4 was a spy balloon from China.
– On Friday, an object roughly the size of a small car was shot out of the skies above remote Alaska.
– Then on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a U.S. fighter jet had shot down an “unidentified object” that was flying high over the Yukon in northwest Canada. Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said it was too soon to speculate where that object had originated but that it was “potentially similar” to the spy balloon shot down on February 4, “though smaller in size and cylindrical in nature.” Full article: https://www.newsweek.com/china-says-spotted-unidentified-flying-object-ufo-1780648

Covid Booster Shots May Trigger Stroke Incidents, According to CDC and FDA:
– In addition to cardiac events, another life-threatening side effect has been associated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. When is the risk period? Does the flu shot play any role in these events? What actions should we take to better protect ourselves?
*Summary of Key Facts*
– An increased risk of stroke events has been identified with the Pfizer COVID-19 bivalent vaccine, according to a joint statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
– The onset time in people aged 65 years and older was 1–21 days after the booster, with a significant cluster of events observed 11–21 days after the booster.
– It is important to note that stroke events occurred throughout the entire 42-day follow-up period after the booster; a cluster of stroke events occurred between 11 and 21 days after receiving the booster.
– Sixty-four percent had received the flu vaccine on the same day as the COVID-19 booster.
– The bivalent booster contains the code of the spike protein, contributing to the increased risk of blood clots. High-risk people should avoid the boosters.
– On Jan. 13, 2023, the FDA and CDC issued a joint statement that a new “safety signal” for ischemic stroke had been detected in one of the agency’s vaccine safety surveillance systems. The statement read, in part: “CDC’s Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), a near real-time surveillance system, met the statistical criteria to prompt additional investigation into whether there was a safety concern for ischemic stroke in people ages 65 and older who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine bivalent.” The VSD system monitors the electronic health records of 12.5 million Americans served by nine integrated health systems.
– The clot risk appears to be greater on days 11–21 after receiving the booster, especially for those who received a high-dose or adjuvant flu vaccine on the same day. – Barr faced an onslaught of backlash for the tweet, leading to smears from her co-stars and ABC canceling her hit namesake show “Roseanne,” instead, televising the spinoff series, “The Conners” without her. “I got fired because I racially misgendered somebody I thought was a White woman,” she joked during the special.
– The legendary actress and comedienne is fighting back against cancel culture with her return to stand-up, bringing fans a routine that’s bolder and more offensive than ever before. “I guess something’s in me. I just cannot let a–holes win. I’m not going to,” she said on stage in the upcoming Fox Nation exclusive. Looking out over her live audience, the 70-year-old star, asked, “Where are my peeps that are going to get really offended if I do not offend everybody?” The crowd erupted in cheers and Barr, with a smile, pledged, “I’m going to get them all tonight.”
– Barr said other comedians have fallen victim to cancel culture and are trying to tread the rough waters of today’s social climate. “[They] have no livelihood unless they are ridiculously sucking up to what the left considers to be [acceptable],” she said. “The left has no humor at all. They have no sense of humor at all, let’s be real,” she added.
– To watch Barr’s return to stand-up join Fox Nation and stream her special beginning February 13. Full article: https://markets.financialcontent.com/stocks/news/read/43153291/roseanne_barr_takes_cancel_culture_head_on_in_stand & Video Link
