Carnival of Nerja 2023: February 16 thru 19
The programming begins on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Villa de Nerja Cultural Center, with the proclamation and the Los Quintana comparsa. On Friday 17 at 5:00 p.m. the children’s costume contest, Ninfa and Momo of the Carnival will take place on the Balcón de Europa with performances and dances. On Saturday 18 , starting at 5:00 p.m., the Great Carnival Parade will be held , leaving from Jaén street to Balcón de Europa , where the party will continue. Finally, on Sunday 19 , at 12:00 noon, the widows and widowers will be elected, and at 5:00 p.m., the traditional Chanquete burial will take place , with the wake, the parade, and will end with a fireworks display and the burning in Calahonda beach.

Spanish Government’s driving licence exchange review imminent, says British Embassy: The British Embassy in Madrid has issued an update on its negotiations with Spain, where British residents who were unable to exchange their UK licences for Spanish ones within the allotted time period are currently not permitted to drive. Posting on the Brits in Spain Facebook page this Wednesday morning (8 February), the message was as follows:
“We know you are anxious for news about when the driving licence agreement will go before the Consejo de Ministros (Council of Ministers). We continue to press the Spanish Government for a precise date and, while they have not confirmed one yet, they have assured us that it will be very soon. We recognise this is frustrating but, as a Spanish Government process, it is not in our hands. Church of England explores gender neutral God: The Church of England will look into the use of gender neutral terms to refer to God in prayers, but the centuries-old institution said on Wednesday there were no plans to abolish current services. How to submit a claim if you get food poisoning in a restaurant: {Translation, summary}
– The claim must include at least the number of days that you have been unable to attend work, whether you are directly affected or whether you have had to stay at home to care for a close relative, especially if it is a child or an elderly person.
– Proof that the poisoning occurred in the restaurant must be provided. It is therefore advisable to always keep the receipt from the establishment that proves the consumption. If payment was made by credit card, this will be recorded in the bank’s records.

– Regardless of whether or not a complaint is formalised, it is advisable for the affected person to report the incident to the local and regional health or consumer authorities, so that they can investigate the incident and, if necessary, impose the appropriate sanctions. This will also support your court claim.
– The OCU recalls that although bars and restaurants are subject to regular health inspections, the results of these controls are not known to users in Spain. White House rejects report that US was behind Nord Stream sabotage:
– The White House flatly rejected Wednesday a new report by veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh that the US was behind the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines last year. In a self-published report, Hersh wrote that US Navy divers helped by Norway had planted explosives on the pipelines running under the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany last June and detonated them three months later.
– Hersh said the decision to bomb the pipelines, which were shut down but contained residual gas, was made in secret by US President Joe Biden to cut off Moscow’s ability to earn billions of dollars from natural gas sales to Europe. The US also believed pipelines gave Russia political leverage over Germany and Western Europe that could be used to weaken their commitment to Ukraine after Russia invaded, according to Hersh.
– Two weeks before the February 24 invasion, Hersh noted, Biden himself said publicly that the US would not allow the new Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be opened if Russia attacked Ukraine.
– Hersh alleged, citing a single unnamed source, that the idea came up first in December 2021 in discussions among Biden’s top national security advisors on how to respond to Russia’s expected invasion of Ukraine. Now we are facing AI driven search results. They will use AI to try and figure out how to present us with ever more search results that maximize the income of the search engine’s business partners. You can already have a basic conversation with Cortana or Alexa, and AI’s ChatBot conversational skills will only get better over time, as it customizes itself according to your activities. UK travellers warned over European visa scam:
– The European Union has issued a warning to UK to travellers that scammers are asking for a fee for the Etias visa which launches in 2023. Travelers from the UK are being cautioned to watch out for a significant travel scam that could cost them hundreds of pounds.
– The European Union has warned that scammers are taking advantage of the system by “engaging in abusive practices.” It has issued advice warning that anyone applying for the Etias may be misled into visiting fraudulent websites.
