SPAIN

Spain joins other EU countries warning of the risk of not having enough gas next winter: The amount of gas in Spain might not be sufficient to supply businesses and homes the government has warned. Teresa Ribera, the Spanish Minister of the Environment, has stressed in Congress today, Thursday, June 30, the need to “strengthen national contingency plans and strengthen savings policies, and propose measures for the hypothetical case that it is necessary to prioritise the availability of energy resources among consumers”.
– Her warning comes after months of the Government assuring that the energy situation in Spain was not as critical as in central and eastern European countries due to its lower dependence on Russian gas. Ms Ribera basically highlighted the fact that there is not enough gas to supply everyone, and that decisions will have to be made between supplying businesses or homes. Spain will receive 7,700 million more from European funds for having suffered a greater than expected impact of the pandemic:
{Translation, summary}
– 7,706 million euros more than expected for Spain. Why? Because the impact of the crisis caused by the coronavirus has been deeper and more prolonged than expected. The European Commission updated its calculations on Thursday using Eurostat data. It initially distributed the transfer and grant part of the 750 billion package of recovery funds among the 27 EU member states. In other words, it distributed 70% of the 337.969 billion euros. It left the distribution of the remaining 30 per cent for later. In total, Spain was supposed to receive 69.528 billion euros in transfers and subsidies. But, according to data published by Brussels on Thursday, the amount rises to 77,234,071 million euros. In other words: 7,706 million euros more than expected. EUROPE

Germany will allow the change of sex with simple visit to the civil registry, 14 year olds will not need parental consent: The government coalition, made up of Social Democrats (SPD), Greens and Liberals (FDP), has reached an agreement to renew and reform the so-called Transsexuality Law of 1980 and make the procedures as easy as possible for those interested, who will be able to change their name and sex in the civil registry on a voluntary basis, without even needing to submit sexual identity reports or medical certificates.
– Although the majority of the citizens of this country identify with the sex they have since birth, there are people who decide on another sexual identification such as intersex, non-binary or transgender. The first have a sex that does not conform to the medical norm of male or female bodies, the second consider that they have neither of the two identities and the third feel that they do not belong to the sex that was attributed to them at birth.
– For those under 14 years of age, it will be their parents or guardians who present the application in the civil registry and in the case of those over that age and those who have not reached the age of majority, the will of those affected will prevail over that of their parents.
– Germany will now join Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Norway as one of the few countries on the continent that allow a person to legally change gender without hormone therapy, medical diagnosis or further evaluation or bureaucratic steps.

Brendan Carr, a Republican member of the FCC emphasized that the short-form video service is far from just an app for sharing funny videos or memes, calling out its features as “sheep’s clothing” intended to mask its core function as a “sophisticated surveillance tool” for amassing users’ personal information. Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation for SPW Construction: We’ve had recourse to SPW – Scott Wilson and his team – on several occasions for various jobs, which have all given us satisfaction beyond expectations.
The first time, was in regard to a problem of rising damp that no less than 3 other so-called professionals attempted to repair, but couldn’t. Scott did the job – over two years ago – the results were brilliant, and haven’t altered since then, damp spots, dark green mold all gone forever.
This time we had to replace our fiberglass swimming pool. Scott arranged for everything: purchase of the new pool; delivery with a special crane; tiling; all materials and labour. It was quite a job, but we were basking in the hot sun and crystal-clear water two days ahead of schedule!
Needless to say, my wife and I highly recommend SPW, which means Scott P. Wilson….we prefer to say: “Some People Work.”

Taxi: Hello Digamites, I am looking for recommendations for taxi company I can book in advance to meet family arriving at Malaga airport from England (2 people) and bringing them to our house in Torre del Mar. A return taxi may also be necessary a few days later. Thanks in anticipation Kerry / Torre del Mar

Recommendation: The Care Company. I want to recommend The Care Company based in Competa. During the calima I fell and cracked my pelvis and shattered my arm. When I came out of hospital I needed carers and contacted David Zoodashna who was very helpful. He is bilingual and has English and Spanish carers. They provided a wheelchair and all the other things I needed to make life easier. Apart from my personal needs they did the household chores and shopping etc and he acted for me with the health service.
They are all unfailingly cheerful and efficient. For hourly care they cover Axarquia and for full time 24 hour care the whole of Spain. They have been a godsend and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Contact David 657969710

SPAIN

Consumer Price Index in Spain jumps to 10.2% in June, the highest figure since 1985: Inflation continues to be one of the greatest headaches for the Spanish government. After ending May at 8.7%, four points higher than in April, the Consumer Price Index for June stands at 10.2%, the highest rate since April 1985. The rise in fuel, food and non-alcoholic drinks, and increased charges at hotels, cafés and restaurants are the main cause.
– The figure is higher than all market forecasts and places the economy and the government in an awkward position as the measures taken so far to alleviate the rising cost of living appear to have had no impact on inflation.
– The data for June has been released in advance and does not detail the cost of individual products. However, in May it was obvious how much these had gone up. The price of vegetable oil had risen by nearly 45% compared with a year before, bread was 12.6% more expensive, eggs had gone up by 25% and cereals 16%. The pandemic increased poverty to 21.7% of the population, the highest figure in the last five years: The population living below the poverty line last year, with income data from 2020, rose to 21.7%. More than one in five people in Spain. This is the highest figure in the last five years, since 2016, with an increase that, however, is not as pronounced as that which occurred in the last financial crisis. Child poverty increases to 28.9% from 27.4% previously. The rest of the indicators, such as the material shortage or the difficulty in reaching the end of the month, do refer to 2021 and one piece of information stands out above all: the maximum in the historical series of energy poverty last year, with 14.3% of the population in homes that cannot maintain an adequate temperature at home. The PP party criticizes that a minor of 12 years “is prohibited from smoking, drinking and driving” but is now allowed “to proceed with a sex change”: {Translation in full}
– The deputy secretary of Social Policies of the Popular Party, Carmen Navarro, has criticised this Wednesday the new “Trans and LGTBI People’s Rights Law” recently approved by the Government in the Council of Ministers, claiming that the text implies an “absolute lack of protection for minors from the age of 12”.
– “A minor under 18 years of age is prohibited from smoking, drinking and driving, but can go to the Civil Registry and the Gender units to change their sex”, the PP leader denounced in the colloquium ‘Ganas de Orgullo’ organised by Nuevas Generaciones, in which the party’s Secretary of Culture, Jaime de los Santos, and the national president of NNGG, Beatriz Fanjul, also took part.
– According to Navarro, the new draft of the Trans Law “will generate great concern among many parents” and he stressed the responsibility of the public authorities to protect minors “to prevent them from making decisions that cannot be reversed”. “Our party is firmly committed to the protection of minors. The PP believes that the best interests of minors must prevail at all times. And, in this project, this is not effective”, she pointed out.
– The ‘popular’ leader has defended that the PP is “the party of freedom”, which is why it will protect and defend the freedom of “all people, whatever they feel, whoever they love and whoever they love”, according to a press release from the party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
– In this context, Navarro reiterated that the PP will continue to “protect and improve the rights of LGTBI people”, while rejecting “any act of hatred, violence, xenophobia or persecution”.
– He also accused Pedro Sánchez’s government of legislating “at the stroke of a holiday (Pride month) and only thinking of taking care of the demands of his most radical partners”, without taking into account the criticisms of the General Council of the Judiciary or waiting for the report of the Council of State on the law promoted by the Ministry of Equality.
– He also assured that the head of the Executive “is only interested in the impact of his announcements and satisfying Podemos in order to preserve the coalition government” and reminded that the Trans Law “does not have the consensus of feminists or the backing of the PSOE” “At least, not of the traditional PSOE prior to Pedro Sánchez”, he clarified.
– Navarro assured that the PP is against gender self-determination “because of the legal insecurity that the sole requirement of one’s own will implies”, without any other procedure and because, in her opinion, “it makes women invisible and is a step backwards in their rights”.
– Finally, she explained that the bill “contains provisions that contradict the fundamental right to equality” contained in article 14 of the Constitution, “generating situations of positive and therefore indirect discrimination of all non-transsexual women”. ANDALUCIA

The Board will not be able to guarantee the quality of the service of the Pascual hospitals: {Translation}
– Facua spokesman Jesús Yesa regrets that the Junta de Andalucía has not yet been  informed of the terms of the million-dollar agreement signed with Pascual. But he is not surprised, in any case, that it has been extended to include, once again, the San Rafael clinic in Cadiz, because “the PP has not deceived anyone, it has enshrined the privatisation of the public health system because it is its management model”, although he recalls that the PSOE was the party that first signed the contract with this firm.
– Yesa considers that “it will mean a loss of users’ rights because the Regional Ministry of Health does not have a sufficient number of inspectors (it only has three in the province and would need 250) or other means to control the provision of services in Pascual’s hospitals, so this will depend on the will of this company”.
– For this reason, the consumer organisation recommends to users that every time they are treated in one of its centres, “they should demand a report detailing, among other aspects, all the care they have received, as well as duly identifying the doctors who have treated them, indicating their full name, professional category and speciality”.
– Facua also reminds that, in the event of any incident at the time of being treated, at any facility, you should file a complaint. If they do not have a complaint book available, as required by law, immediately call the local police and request assistance.
– Finally, Facua reminds that “despite the Junta’s decision to privatise health care in Cadiz, users have the right to free choice of specialist doctor and hospital”, so that the health centre should inform them of the options available to them without forcing them to go to a private centre in Pascual. GRANADA

A tractor-trailer march through Granada in protest at the price of diesel and electricity: {Translation, summary}
– A caravan of tractors, some 400 according to the organisers, began a march through the streets of Granada on Wednesday to protest against the “abusive” prices of fuel and electricity under the slogan “The price of diesel, the ruin of the countryside”.
– The protesters denounce the “exorbitant” rise in agricultural diesel, which is currently at an average of 1.63 euros per litre with peaks of 1.78 at some pumps, as well as the escalation of the electricity bill which has not been contained despite the latest measures taken by the Government. CORDOBA

Medina Azahara adds a dramatised itinerary to night visits: {Translation}
– The Medina Azahara Archaeological Ensemble, in Cordoba, has added “a new attraction to the usual night visits” to the ancient Caliphate citadel of the tenth century, through the possibility of “enjoying a dramatised itinerary for summer nights on Fridays and Saturdays, between 2 July and 10 September, with two daily shows, between 20.45 and 22.00 hours and from 22.15 to 23.30 hours.
– On this occasion, as reported by the Junta de Andalucía in a note, the dramatised activity will take visitors to the ancient palatine city “on a journey through time around the year 967, during the reign of al-Hakam II, where a chief of the guard, Abu Amir, will accompany and escort us throughout the dramatised visit”.
– The aim of this activity is to “bring to life some of the most emblematic areas of Medina Azahara, where we will be able to meet different characters who will tell us about and show us these places”. In fact, during the tour “visitors will be welcomed by the army general Qasim Ibn Tumlus, in the Upper Basilical Hall, where he will explain the importance of this place as the nerve centre of the administration and military organisation of the Caliphate”.
– The visit will continue afterwards and “a stop will be made at the House of Ja’far, where we will meet the vizier and trusted man of the caliph, who will let us know what his tasks, functions and concerns were”.
– Furthermore, during this unique journey through the Alcazar of the Caliphate city, “as well as enjoying the explanations of our guide Abu Amir, we will have the opportunity to understand the magnitude and importance of Medina Azahara, thanks to our meeting with one of the palace servants, who will tell us about a complex network of essential maintenance tasks, which, in addition to the political and administrative tasks, were carried out in the court of the Caliph”.
– These dramatised night-time visits to Medina Azahara will take place twice a night every Friday and Saturday in July, August and September, in the latter case until the 10th, with an estimated duration of one hour and 15 minutes each and with a limited capacity of 30 people per visit. Participation in this activity is free and open to anyone interested, subject to prior registration, through the ARES Booking System. 2-time Wimbledon champ Murray loses to Isner in 2nd round:
Unable to overcome big John Isner’s big serves, the way he always has in the past, the revered Murray lost in the second round to the 20th-seeded American 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-4 on Wednesday night at the All England Club, capping a disappointing afternoon and evening in the grass-court Grand Slam tournament’s main stadium for the locals. Serena Williams loses at Wimbledon in 1st match in a year: Returning to the site of her last singles match, which she had to stop after less than a set because of an injury on June 29, 2021, and seven of her major championships, the 40-year-old Williams came within two points of victory. But she could not finish the job against an opponent making her Wimbledon debut and bowed out with a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7) loss to 115th-ranked Harmony Tan of France. Photo: AP. FINANCIAL

The Euribor is close to 1% in June, its highest level in a decade:
– As a result of this increase, the installments of variable mortgages that have to be reviewed with this data will become more expensive again. In the case of an average mortgage of 150,000 euros, for 25 years and interest at Euribor plus 1%, the loan installment will increase by more than 1,400 euros per year.
– The estimates are not at all flattering. The 12-month Euribor will end 2022 this year at 1.90% and will shoot up to 2.20% in 2023, according to the latest Bankinter estimates contained in its strategy report for the third quarter.

Regulated natural gas rates rise 10.4% on average as of Friday:
– Natural gas rates (TUR) will rise by an average of 10.4% from July 1, according to the quarterly review carried out by the Ministry for Ecological Transition. This data contrasts with the figures which refer to increases in annual bills of between 6.41% and 8.44%.
-Thus, TUR 1, for annual consumption of less than 5,000 kWh (households that only use natural gas for cooking or heating water), will increase by 9.7%; TUR 2, for annual consumption between 5,000 kWh and 15,000 kWh (in addition to using natural gas for cooking or heating water, they also have heating), 10.4%; and TUR 3, with annual consumption between 15,000 kWh and 50,000 kWh (households with large consumption and businesses), another 11%, according to the prices published today in the BOE.
In the previous review on April 1, rates also went up another 10% on average. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/regulated-natural-gas-rates-rise-10-4-on-average-as-of-friday/

Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

The dreaded calima is due to return to the south of Spain this week, and temperatures are set to rise: Airborne dust from the Sahara will arrive on Friday and will mainly affect the provinces of Malaga, Granada and Almeria in the Andalucía region – according to State weather agency Aemet. Temperatures are also expected to rise this week with highs of over 35C in many places, but the increase will be progressive rather than excessive, says Aemet. The new football pitch in El Morche will be a large sports complex in an extensive green space: {Translation, summary}
– The plenary session of Torrox Town Council on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to the project for the construction of the new sports park in Santa Rosa which will house the new football pitch in El Morche, which has been demanded by the local residents for decades and is now closer to becoming a reality. The approved document, drawn up by the company Ingeniería Celdrán S.L., envisages the construction of a large sports complex with sports courts, stands, changing rooms and underground car parks, as well as a commercial area, all within an extensive green space. In total, almost 27,000 square metres will be built in two phases, each of which will take 12 months to complete, with an investment of around nine million euros.
– The mayor, Óscar Medina, said that once the plenary has given the go-ahead to the project, the works will go out to tender immediately “because it is time that, despite the obstacles that have been put in our way by the opposition, the coast sees one of its historical demands become a reality and to which I committed myself from day one”. MALAGA

Extra bus services between some inland villages and the Malaga coast this summer: More bus services are to be laid on by the Malaga Metropolitan Transport Consortium during the summer so people from some inland towns and villages can get to beaches, shopping centres and leisure centres on the coast at Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Malaga. The idea is to encourage them to leave their own vehicle at home and not have to worry about finding somewhere to park or getting stuck in traffic jams.
– The services will run until 8 September, from Alhaurín de la Torre, Álora, Almogía, Cártama, Casabermeja, Mijas Pueblo and Pizarra.
– The seven bus routes for the Malaga metropolitan area and the Guadalhorce valley are: the M-136 Cártama-Alhaurín de la Torre-Plaza Mayor-Los Álamos; the M-140 Cártama-Alhaurín de la Torre-Torremolinos; the M-540 Álora-Pizarra-Plaza Mayor-Playamar; the M-550 Casabermeja-El Palo; the M-552 Colmenar-El Palo; the M-551 Almogía-Plaza Mayor-Playamar and the M-590 Alhaurín el Grande-Fuengirola. The Six Easiest Countries for Securing EU Residency: European Union residency comes with a lot of benefits. Not only that a foreign citizen residing in an EU country enjoys the benefits that the country he/she lives in offers, but the same also enjoy the benefits offered by the EU as a bloc. A resident of any of the EU countries, amongst others, is eligible to travel freely throughout the borderless Schengen Area, most often without even having to present documentation when passing from one country to another. Residency in any of the EU countries usually leads to the EU citizenship of that same country. Once one gains citizenship, he/she can then move to any other EU country and settle there.

France Planning to Set Up a Border Health Pass Requirement, Leaked Draft Bill Reveals: The French government is planning to put in place a scheme that obliges travellers to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19, recovery from the virus, or negative test results upon arrival at the borders of France, and the same would presumably be valid until the end of March 2023.
– A leaked draft law published by the French media Atlantico, the authenticity of which has later been confirmed by the French Ministry of Health, shows that the country is planning to set up a border scheme through which travellers over the age of 12 reaching the territory of France, Corsica and overseas territories would have to show proof they are immune to COVID-19. Ghislaine Maxwell sentenced to 20 years in prison for helping Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse girls: Prosecutors said Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial, sexually abused children hundreds of times over more than a decade, and couldn’t have done so without the help of Maxwell, his longtime companion and onetime girlfriend. In December, a jury convicted Maxwell of sex trafficking, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts and two conspiracy charges. Prosecutors called Maxwell’s shifting of blame to Epstein “absurd and offensive.”
– U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan, who also imposed a $750,000 fine, said “a very significant sentence is necessary” and that she wanted to send an “unmistakable message” that these kinds of crimes would be punished. Prosecutors had asked the judge to give her 30 to 55 years in prison, while Maxwell’s defense sought a lenient sentence of just five years. TECH

BBVA BANK USER ALERT– New Android Banking Trojan ‘Revive’ Targeting Users of Spanish Financial Services:
(This malware sends you “phishing” emails or messages, pretending to be BBVA, and asks you to install or update their banking app. If you do so, you get infected, and the scammer gets every keystroke you make, including your banking log-in credentials, and will intercept any security codes sent to you for “2 Factor Authentication” log-ins they would need to access your account. You won’t be able to tell the legit app from the fake one. So if you have downloaded and installed the BBVA banking app in the past few months as the result of a prompt you received by email/message, it may be best to do the following. Uninstall it. Then fully shut down and restart. Then run a FULL malware scan with your antivirus app to remove all traces of malware. If you don’t have one installed, install the antivirus app linked below, and use that. Then go visit the BBVA website and download/install a new copy of their app. -Ed.)
– A previously unknown Android banking trojan has been discovered in the wild, targeting users of the Spanish financial services company BBVA. Said to be in its early stages of development, the malware – dubbed Revive by Italian cybersecurity firm Cleafy – was first observed on June 15, 2022 and distributed by means of phishing campaigns.
– Revive is mainly engineered to harvest the bank’s login credentials through the use of lookalike pages and facilitate account takeover attacks. It also incorporates a keylogger module to capture keystrokes and the ability to intercept SMS messages received on the infected devices, primarily one-time passwords and 2FA codes sent by the bank.
– “When the victim opens the malicious app for the first time, Revive asks to accept two permissions related to the SMS and phone calls,” the researchers said. “After that, a clone page (of the targeted bank) appears to the user and if the login credentials are inserted, they are sent to the scammers.”
– The findings once again underscore the need to exercise caution when it comes to downloading apps from third-party untrusted sources. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2022/06/new-android-banking-trojan-revive.html

Hauliers vote against a new strike for the time being: The result of the vote by associations of haulage firms linked to the group (Plataforma para la Defensa del Sector del Transporte) that called the strike last March, was 41 per cent in favour and 45 per cent against, with 14% abstentions.
Hauliers, therefore, favour further negotiations with the government, before potentially throwing part of the distribution sector into turmoil as they did in March. They are now waiting for the government to respond to their requests to apply the food chain law which prevents them working at a loss, which is the sector’s greatest problem. Infoca works on a fire in Lanjarón: {Translation} Infoca firefighters are working on Monday to extinguish a fire that broke out in the municipality of Lanjarón (Granada) at around 11.00 a.m. and for which two aerial vehicles were initially used, which have now been withdrawn from the area, where work continues with ground vehicles. Initially, two ground loading aircraft, a transport and extinguishing helicopter, a fire-fighting vehicle, an operations technician, an environmental agent and two groups of forest firefighters were deployed to the area. NATO to grow high-readiness forces to 300,000, ‘biggest overhaul’ since Cold War: In the largest military buildup since the Cold War, NATO plans to boost its high-readiness forces to 300,000 in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg made the announcement Monday, one day before U.S. President Joe Biden heads to a NATO summit in Madrid.
– The NATO summit will be “transformative, with many important decisions, including on a new strategic concept for a new security reality, a fundamental shift in NATO’s deterrence and defense, and support to Ukraine now and for the future,” Stoltenberg said Monday.

Italy Data Protection Authority Warns Websites Against Use of Google Analytics:
– Following the footsteps of Austria and France, the Italian Data Protection Authority has become the latest regulator to find the use of Google Analytics to be non-compliant with E.U. data protection regulations.
– The Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali, in a press release published last week, called out a local web publisher for using the widely used analytics tool in a manner that allowed key bits of users’ personal data to be illegally transferred to the U.S. without necessary safeguards. This data includes interactions of users with the websites, the individual pages visited, IP addresses of the devices used to access the websites, browser specifics, details related to the device’s operating system, screen resolution, and the selected language, as well as the date and time of the visits.
– Earlier this month, the French data protection watchdog, the CNIL, issued updated guidance over the use of Google Analytics, reiterating the practice as illegal under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws and giving affected organizations a period of one month to comply. Who can collect the new aid of 200 euros announced by the Spanish  Government?: This Monday the decree / law was approved to offer the aid of 200 euros to individuals with low income and assets. The measure was announced this Saturday and has the objective of alleviating the effects of the price increase caused by the energy crisis derived from the invasion of Ukraine.
– Those people who in 2021 had an income of less than 14,000 euros per year, and had assets of less than 43,196.40 euros per year, will be able to benefit from it. Income will be calculated per household, so the sum of the residents’ income must not exceed the established limits in the BOE. BONEHEAD AWARD- The school where boys can wear skirts – but not shorts: Parents have hit out at new school uniform rules which mean that in hot weather boys can wear skirts – but not shorts. The changes in policy at Wymondham High Academy follow complaints from families that boys were being forced to wear trousers during the summer term, when temperatures can soar.
– The school agreed to review the regulations, but rather than permitting shorts it introduced a ‘gender neutral’ policy, permitting boys and girls to wear trousers or skirts – and neither to wear shorts. Jonathan Rockey, the school’s headteacher, defended the new policy as “something we are very proud of” and said it had involved consultation with families.
– The new uniform policy, triggered by the previous complaints, was introduced after more than 400 parents took part in a survey, with a large number calling for a ‘summer uniform’ to be introduced.
– However, the exercise to date produced has just two changes – allowing boys and girls to wear trousers or skirts, and requiring girls to wear ties as well as boys. Photo: Denise Bradley. Full article: https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/education/wymondham-high-academy-school-uniform-policy-9096714

The BOE publishes the new package of anti-crisis measures approved by the government: {Translation} 26/06/2022 11:02
– The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published this Sunday the royal decree-law adopting and extending the measures to respond to the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine, to deal with situations of vulnerability and for the recovery of the island of La Palma.
– The royal decree-law will come into force on Monday, and will run until 31 December.
– With regard to the reduction in the price of the transport season ticket, from 1 September a 50% reduction in the price of monthly season tickets will be established for state companies, such as Renfe, and 30% for regional and local companies, although the royal decree-law specifies that this is a voluntary discount for autonomous communities and local councils, as they are the ones that have the powers. The Autonomous Regions and local authorities that decide to implement this rebate will be able to collect the aid, estimated at 200 million euros in total. They can also extend the 30% discount to 50% if they so wish, but they must make up the difference with their own resources. For these subsidies, the return ticket is excluded. In addition, in the case of annual travel passes purchased prior to the entry into force of the royal decree, the competent administration may decide whether to set up a system to allow the user to receive a refund of the proportional part corresponding to 30% of the four-month period.
– The BOE also includes a 15% increase in non-contributory retirement and disability pensions, which means an increase of 60 euros per month (360 euros by the end of the year). It also details the maintenance of the 15% increase in the Minimum Vital Income approved in March.
200-EURO CHEQUE
– With regard to the 200-euro cheque for people living in households with incomes of less than 14,000 euros, the royal decree-law specifies that it may be applied for by wage earners, the self-employed and the unemployed, but not by pensioners or beneficiaries of the IMV. It also indicates that the income of less than 14,000 euros must correspond to the sum of the members of the cohabitation unit, which will be made up of the people who were living with the applicant on 1 January 2022 with a relationship of kinship or family, or foster family up to the third degree from two years earlier. For this aid, it is also a requirement that the assets of the cohabitation unit do not exceed 43,196.4 euros, without taking into account the habitual residence. The aid, which will be managed by the Tax Agency, can be applied for until 30 September. According to government estimates, it could benefit 2.7 million people.
LOWERING OF VAT ON ELECTRICITY
– On the other hand, VAT on electricity bills will be reduced from 10% to 5%, which will be applied to consumers, companies or individuals, with a contracted power of up to 10 kilowatts. It will also remain at 5% until the end of the year, as long as the price on the wholesale market remains above 45 euros per megawatt/hour. Thus, if it falls below this amount, the reduction will cease to apply in general, but will be maintained for severely vulnerable users and those at risk of exclusion.
– In addition, the royal decree-law includes an extension of the measure consisting of the application of the 0.5% tax rate on the Special Tax on Electricity, and the extension of the temporary suspension of the Tax on the value of electricity production.
– In the area of fuels, the reduction of 20 cents per litre of fuel is also maintained until the end of the year. The price of a cylinder of butane, which after the latest revision is now 19.55 euros, has also been frozen.
– With the aim of reinforcing protection for the most vulnerable groups, the prohibition on suspending the energy supply, the cap on rent increases and the fact that the increase in energy costs cannot be grounds for dismissal in companies that depend on the Administration are maintained.
– Similarly, the deferral of Social Security contributions is extended to September, direct aid to the gas-intensive industry is approved, drought aid is extended and aid is extended to those affected by the eruption of the ‘Cumbre Vieja’ volcano. In addition, the reduced VAT rate of 4% on surgical masks was extended. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/economia/macroeconomia-00338/noticia-boe-publica-nuevo-paquete-medidas-anticrisis-aprobado-gobierno-20220626110236.html

Transport Strike UPDATE- Self-employed hauliers divided over strike action from 4 July: {Translation} 26-06-2022 20:00
– The National Platform in Defence of Transport had called this morning its assemblies all over Spain to decide whether to resume the sector’s strikes on 4 July. The overall result of the votes has not been made public, although it is closer than expected, according to some results that are already known. The hauliers from Extremadura, for example, voted to resume the stoppages on 4 July if the Ministry of Transport does not comply with what has been agreed, especially with the inclusion by law of the prohibition of working at a loss before the end of this month. In this case the “yes” to strike was overwhelming: 96 votes in favour and 10 against.
– In the case of the Aragonese delegation, like the Asturian delegation, the almost unanimous decision was not to stop the trucks “for the moment” until it is seen if the Ministry of Transport complies with the agreement. In Andalusia, there was total division: Jaén and Cádiz, in favour of “yes”, and “no” in Córdoba and Sevilla Sur, according to Canal Sur.
– In Galicia, 80% of Lugo hauliers voted in favour of resuming the strike they suspended on 2 April.
– The trickle of results leaves all options open regarding the possible reactivation of the road transport strike that was suspended in April. However, the votes were more of a threat, because the hauliers themselves left a last loophole open until Thursday 30 June. Manuel Espinosa, the Cadiz delegate of the Plataforma de Transportistas, assured that it is almost better not to work and that they no longer trust the government. The fact that there is a margin until Thursday has led several assemblies to delay their decision until Thursday. The spokesman for the Aragonese platform, Emilio Seco, explained. “Before we were treated as criminals and terrorists, and now we have a seat at the dialogue table,” he said during the assembly.
– The platform, which acts outside the majority employers’ organisation, the National Transport Committee, which they accuse of being made up of “the managers of the big transport operators, who are mainly to blame for the situations of economic and labour abuse”, asks the Executive to “take responsibility so that it acts urgently and avoids the collapse that will necessarily occur in the transport sector”. After the meeting on the 16th at the Ministry, the Platform’s board of directors explained that, given the lack of knowledge of the exact date on which the law that will allow them to work without losses will be ready, “it is impossible for us to consider maintaining our activity in the coming months”. Editor’s Note: Madrid was flooded with various protests this weekend. Far too much for me to cover here. While things are calm down here, it’s easy to forget that in the north things are shaping up for a hot protest season. Here’s the short list.
– Anti-NATO march through Madrid for peace and against militarisation: {Translation, summary} 26/06/2022 16:27
Several thousand people – 2,200 according to the Government Delegation and 30,000 according to the organisation – from a large number of different left-wing groups marched through Madrid this lunchtime to protest against NATO, on the eve of the summit of the Atlantic alliance in the Spanish capital. Under the slogan ‘ ‘No a las guerras. No a la NATO. Por la paz.’ (No to wars. No to NATO. For peace), the procession travelled the route between Atocha and Plaza de España, reviving the chants of the demonstrations of the 1980s against the military organisation, such as “bases out”, without any incidents occurring.

– The unions USO and Sitcpla called this strike for 24, 25, 26 and 30 June and 1 and 2 July, at the airline’s ten bases in Spain – Madrid, Malaga, Seville, Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona, Girona, Santiago de Compostela, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca.

Irish Archaeologist Identifies Over 3,000-Year-Old Bronze-Age Fortress in Galway Park:
– An archaeologist in Galway, Ireland, discovered a large Bronze Age fortress on a limestone table, surrounded by seasonal lakes, at Coole Park, Ireland, earlier this week, according to television and radio broadcaster RTÉ. The site was previously known, but its antiquity has been in question until now. Coole Park, the land on which the fortress sits, is currently a nature preserve. The turloughs, or seasonal lakes, are unique to areas of Ireland west of the River Shannon.
– The fortress, dating between 800 and 1200 BCE, is unique in its use of turloughs, which would have drained and filled with water based on the weather and time of year. These turloughs would have been used strategically as a defense mechanism against outside invaders. At roughly 1,312 by 328 feet, the structure could have housed a couple hundred people at any given time. Photo: RTÉNews. Covid Malaga- Rebound of spread of Covid in Malaga, with 1,196 cases: {Translation} 24 Junio, 2022 16:58
– The province of Malaga has registered 1,196 cases of Covid in the last three days, according to data provided on Friday by the Ministry of Health of the Andalusian Regional Government. This is almost a quarter of all the infections detected in the region in recent days.
– Specifically, Andalusia has registered 5,009 cases of Covid and 29 deaths from the disease since last Tuesday (from that day to Friday of last week there were 4,031 cases and 33 deaths). The highest number of positives has been diagnosed in the province of Malaga (1,196), followed by Granada, with 876.
– The good news in this case is that in the province of Malaga there have been no deaths from the coronavirus in the last three days, so the figure remains at 2,483 since the pandemic began more than two years ago.
– On the other hand, the number of Covid patients hospitalised in Malaga has fallen by three since last Tuesday. Thus, from 99 admitted with SARS-CoV2, the number has gone down to the current 96, of which six (+1) are in the Intensive Care Units (ICU).
– In addition, since last Tuesday there have been 51 new hospitalised patients, an increase compared to previous days.

SPAIN

Another case of the famous Nancy Pelosi Rule, “we have to pass the law so we can see what’s in it”- Spain’s President Sanchez announces anti-crisis measures extended to December: {Translation}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Friday that the decree with the measures to deal with the economic consequences of the invasion of Ukraine and the rise in inflation that will be approved tomorrow by an extraordinary Council of Ministers will be extended until 31 December, and will not be renewed for a further three months as initially announced.
– Sánchez, who appeared in Brussels at the end of the European Council, assured that the measures to be included in the decree, which he did not wish to advance, are “coherent” with what has been approved so far, supports particularly vulnerable sectors and, thirdly, will include “selective” reductions in certain taxes.
– The head of the Executive, who himself will give an account of the decree at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting (only after it has been passed), said that the measures will include aid for families, industry and companies so that they can protect themselves from rising prices.
– “We know that inflation is high, but this government knows very well who it governs for, we know very well that there are other sectors that want to maintain the status quo and privileges, but this government is not going to do it, we know who we govern for and we govern to protect families who have become much more vulnerable as a result of the rise in the cost of living,” Sánchez stressed.
– The President of the Government stated that the economic situation of the entire EU has been “damaged” as a result of the war, which has led to a rise in energy and food prices, which is weighing down the cost of living for citizens. He also defended once again the “structural” reform of the electricity market in Europe and the decoupling of the price of gas from electricity, as well as the promotion of a gas cap on the entire European energy market. He pointed out that as soon as the gas cap was put in place in the Iberian market, the evolution of the price in Spain is “substantially” lower than in the spot market. U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade abortion rights landmark: The justices, in the ruling written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito, held that the Roe decision that allowed abortions performed before a fetus would be viable outside the womb – between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy – was wrongly decided because the U.S. Constitution makes no specific mention of abortion rights. By erasing abortion as a constitutional right, the ruling restored the ability of states to ban it, fundamentally altering America’s landscape on the issue of reproductive rights. Twenty-six states are either certain or considered likely to ban abortion. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-supreme-court-overturns-abortion-rights-landmark-2022-06-24/

SATURDAY RECIPE

Salt Cured Egg Yolks: Cured egg yolks have all the richness of fine cheese, along with a salty tang that comes from the curing process. They’re equally at home finely grated on top of pasta or topping a tasty dessert.
-Salt cured egg yolks are preserved with salt, obviously, but that’s not the end of the story. What if I told you that there was a tiny creature at work inside these tasty orbs of flavor? The same tiny creature that’s responsible for salami, sauerkraut, and yogurt?
– No, you say? Too good to be true? And yet, here we are, with perfectly preserved pro-biotic egg yolks for the tasting. A high salt environment inhibits certain spoiling bacteria, which allows other desirable cultures to dominate.
– It’s not that salt prevents anything from living in the yolks, it’s just that it slows the growth of some types of bacteria until the others can take over and release lactic acid. It’s the lactic acid that actually preserves the food, and the salt just facilitated the whole thing. Good work Lactobacillus!
– The whole adventure starts with egg yolks nestled into tiny cradles of salt. Pour about 1/2 inch of salt into a nonreactive container, like a glass or stoneware baking dish… See the full recipe here with photos of each step: https://practicalselfreliance.com/salt-cured-egg-yolks/

SPAIN

Gasoline and diesel set new all-time record highs: {Translation}
– The average price of petrol and diesel in Spain has set a new all-time high and is now above two euros per litre; moreover, in both cases it has already ‘eaten up’ the entire subsidy of 20 cents per litre that came into force on 1 April.
– Specifically, the average price of a litre of petrol this week stood at 2.141 euros, after registering an increase of 1.13% compared to seven days ago.
– This average price includes taxes, but does not reflect the discount of at least 20 cents per litre that came into effect on 1 April, as there are higher discounts, depending on the oil company and promotions for loyal customers.
– Taking this subsidy into account, the price of a litre of petrol would thus already be almost 12 cents more expensive than in the last week of March (1.818 euros), before the discount began to be applied, so that the increase in the price of this fuel since then has fully absorbed the aid.
– In the case of diesel, the average price per litre has risen by 3.64% in the last week, to exceed the two euro mark for the second week in a row (2.076 euros). Thus, when applying the 20 cents per litre reduction, the price would be around three cents higher than the price at the end of March (1.837 euros per litre).
– Compared to the same week a year ago, the average price of a litre of petrol has risen by 55.82%, while diesel is 67.68% more expensive, although without taking into account the rebate currently in force. From pop to flamenco, the Museum of Malaga will have nine concerts from 5 to 21 July: {Translation}
– The Museum of Málaga will host nine concerts as part of the Music and Museums (MUMU) cycle of the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage. The programme, which celebrates its third edition this summer, will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5 to 21 July and will feature pop and flamenco sounds.

– On the 7th of July Rosario La Tremendita does the same with ‘Acústico’, an interesting work that shows her most personal vision of flamenco.

– Astola y Ratón will perform on 13 July to offer the public the joint work of two of the standard-bearers of fundamental Andalusian rock bands, Alejandro Astola and Diego Pozo el Ratón.
– The week ends with Pedro el Granaíno on the 14th of July with Granaíno Jondo, a flamenco recital where the ‘jondura y el quejó’ of his throat merges with the guitar of Antonio Luque Espejo Patrocinio Hijo.
– The last week opens with the young cantaora María Terremoto. Belonging to one of the most important flamenco sagas, she has managed to give a new air to traditional cante without renouncing purity. Her powerful and powerful voice will be accompanied by a guitar and two hand claps.
– On 20 July, Martirio and the brilliant guitarist Raúl Rodríguez will perform a concert in Travesía in which they will review the artist’s hits.
– Finally, the cycle will be closed by Mario Díaz on the 21st of July with Gira mapamundi to premiere the Cordovan musician’s new record ‘Fullería Volumen I’, the first release of the guitarist’s adventurous and eclectic spirit.

The National Police warning of attack by cybercriminals to clients of Unicaja in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police has alerted traders and businessmen of attacks by cybercriminals on Unicaja customers in Vélez-Málaga. The entity itself has recalled that it never sends messages to the mobile phone with urgent notifications to be resolved through a link. The National Police have pointed out that “in recent days Unicaja customers have been suffering a sophisticated attack by cybercriminals with the aim of defrauding them”, adding that it should be borne in mind that “the attack referred to could be carried out by pretending to be sent from any other bank or public institution”.
– Also recently, the National Institute of Cybersecurity (Incibe) detected a campaign of sending fraudulent SMS and e-mails impersonating the financial institution Unicaja Banco or Liberbank to steal bank details. The aim is to get customers to access a form and provide their personal details and bank codes. These emails use the excuse of unauthorised access to their online account to get users to verify their credentials. TECH

Creepy Tech- Alexa will be able to speak with the voice of a deceased family member: Amazon revealed that it has developed a way for its Alexa voice assistant to replicate the speech of a dead relative, based on less than a minute of recorded audio of the original person.
– Amazon has already developed voice-synthesizing tech to let Alexa mimic the voices of celebrities, including Shaquille O’Neal and Melissa McCarthy. But that has previously required an individual to record dozens of hours of audio. Amazon now has developed a way to replicate a voice in high quality using less than one minute of recorded speech, which the company’s engineers were able to do “by framing the problem as a voice-conversion task, and not a speech-generation task,” according to Prasad.
– In introducing the demo, Prasad said that the ability for Alexa’s AI to emulate the speech of a deceased relative can represent a way to preserve the memory of a loved one who has died. “We are unquestionably living in the golden era of AI, where our dreams and science fiction are becoming a reality,” he said. Computer Workers On Strike Thursday: In support of my fellow computer technicians, DoctorLaptop (not DigameXtra) will be closed this Thursday.
“Society continues to think that computer engineers are very well-paid personnel due to their high qualifications. Nothing is further from reality”. “We have at least ten professional categories below the minimum wage, which is unsustainable in a highly qualified sector and with companies that make great profits,” the trade union centrals have warned as they go on strike Thursday demanding higher wages and shorter hours.

Capitán Mercury- A Queen Tribute At Sala Superstar Fuengirola:
Friday, 22July 9pm
Sala Superstar, Calle Jacinto Benavente s/n, Fuengirola
Close your eyes and relive the universal anthems and power ballads that were played in the crowded macro festivals and football stadiums of the 70s and 80s. Thrill to We Are the Champions and I Want to Break Free, sing along to We Will Rock You or Bohemian Rhapsody and groove to Another One Bits The Dust. Doing a good Queen tribute is an arduous task. And no wonder: it’s not easy to pay tribute to a legend with the oldest fan club in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. But CAPTAIN MERCURY has done it: this incredible show manages to capture both the original sound and the highly personal style and staging that catapulted Queen to international fame. This is a unique opportunity to experience the full force, emotion and musical genius of Queen at the height of their career.

Spain is to cut IVA tax on electricity bills from 10% to 5%:
Prime minister Pedro Sánchez announced this Wednesday morning that the measure will be approved at an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet on Saturday. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/spain-electricity-bills-iva-tax-cut20220622103041-nt-20220622104525-nt.html

The food chain trembles before the possible carrier strike- “We cannot afford another strike”: The threat of a new strike in freight transport looms over the agricultural sector, hotels and restaurants. Organizations such as Asaja, Coag, Anged, Aecoc and Hospitality of Spain have sent a statement this Wednesday in which they warn that Spain “cannot afford a new strike in the road transport sector” and warn of the “serious consequences” it would have a new protest on companies and consumers. Agri-food companies have recalled that they provide an “essential service” that was recognized during the pandemic and that these days they are in the middle of the summer fruit campaign. For this reason, a stoppage of transport in these circumstances would force a large part of the annual production of perishable food to be thrown away.
– The agri-food sector also recalls that it is making a great effort to affect the rise in prices as little as possible to the consumer and that it has not yet recovered from the stoppages carried out by carriers in March. For this reason, from the industry they have demanded that the entire transport sector not “subject society to a new threat” and that they take into account the difficult situation in which the sector finds itself. The small carriers have warned that they can resume the protests next month if the Government does not approve before June 30 the law that articulates that truck drivers cannot work below cost. Something that almost 100% will not happen, since the transport representatives and the ministry of the branch work with a horizon of July 31 to close the text. The National Platform for the Defense of Transport, the organizer of these protests, will vote on June 26 in an assembly to resume the protests.

Hotel occupancy in June reveals significant divide- ranging from a very weak 50% up to an enthusiastic 89%: {Translation}
– The Association of Hoteliers Association of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) forecasts that this June will close with a hotel occupancy rate of 81.80%, two points below that achieved in the same month of 2019.
– By municipalities, Malaga city leads the occupancy rate in June, reaching 88.55%.
– Nerja, with an occupancy rate of 83.90%, is also showing good figures. It is followed by Benalmádena, with 83.81%; the central and western Axarquía, with 81.81% and Fuengirola with 80.42%.
– But other municipalities are only half full, as is the case of Antequera, which, if the forecasts do not change due to last minute bookings, has an occupancy rate of approximately 50%. Afghanistan earthquake kills at least 1,000, toll expected to rise:
The death toll from an earthquake in Afghanistan on Wednesday hit 1,000, disaster management officials said, with more than 600 injured and the toll expected to grow as information trickles in from remote mountain villages. Houses were reduced to rubble and bodies swathed in blankets lay on the ground after the magnitude 6.1 earthquake, photographs on Afghan media showed. Wednesday’s quake was the deadliest in Afghanistan since 2002. It struck about 44 km (27 miles) from the southeastern city of Khost, near the border with Pakistan, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. Photo: Twitter/ToloNews. Nothing is further from reality”. “We have at least ten professional categories below the minimum wage, which is unsustainable in a highly qualified sector and with companies that make great profits,” the trade union centrals have warned as they go on strike Thursday demanding higher wages and shorter hours.

Wanted: Driver. Am looking for a driver to collect a lady from a Nerja Care Home on Friday mornings about 11 am to take into Nerja and collect her later that day and return her to the Care Home. The driver needs to be able to put the wheelchair in the boot and take it out again when she arrives in Nerja. We normally take a taxi to and from Nerja but last Friday we had to wait over an hour to get a taxi so we would rather have somebody reliable and able to take us into Nerja at 11 am on a Friday.
The normal taxi fare is around €8 each way but we are willing to pay €10 for each trip. Maybe somebody can help? Thank you, Angela, Torrox Costa

SPAIN

The price of electricity continues to rise – tomorrow it will exceed 282 euros per MWh on average: {Translation}
The average electricity price for today, Wednesday 22/6, will be 282.12 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), the highest figure since 11 March (284.58 euros). Tomorrow’s price is the result of adding the 152.75 euros per MWh of the wholesale market auction with the capped gas and the 129.39 euros of compensation to gas companies for the mechanism put in place by the government last week that limits the cost of gas used in electricity generation to 40 euros per MWh. The price increase is mainly due to the greater participation of gas combined cycle plants in the generation mix to the detriment of renewables due to the lack of wind. Thousands of summer jobs up for grabs at big name companies in Malaga province: Some major retail stores and supermarkets are looking for staff this summer and have around 20,000 vacancies in Malaga province. Mercadona, El Corte Inglés, Decathlon, Leroy Merlin, McDonald’s, Lidl and Aldi are among those who need personnel, mainly for part-time jobs during the summer season although in some cases permanent contracts and full-time work become available later.
– The vacancies include sales staff, forklift operators, checkout staff, shelf-fillers, warehouse workers and telephone operators, among others. Most of these big names offer low salaries (although Mercadona tends to be an exception), but the training and opportunities for internal promotion are seen as benefits.

SPACE

Startled by bright lights in the sky in the early hours of yesterday morning? Don’t worry, there is a simple explanation:
– José María Madiedo, of the Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics, has now said the phenomenon occurred as a result of one of the phases of the Chang Zheng 2F rocket re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The CZ-2F was launched by the Chinese Space Agency (CNSA) on 5 June as part of the Shenzhou 14 mission.
– Madiedo explained that the white lights were a row of fireballs which were visible when the upper part of the rocket re-entered the atmosphere, breaking into multiple fragments which became incandescent as a result of the friction as they did so. Every one of those fragments created a fireball. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/chinese-space-agency-mission-20220621095958-nt.html & VIDEO LINK

Today is Summer Solstice 2022- The First Day of Summer:
In 2022, the June solstice occurs on Tuesday, June 21, marking the astronomical first day of summer.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe. (In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: the June solstice marks the astronomical start of winter, when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky.) This is the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest “day,” we mean the longest period of sunlight hours.) On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year. Full article: https://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-summer-summer-solstice

Calviño acknowledges that the high inflation scenario will last longer: The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, defended this Monday that the Government’s measures are making it possible to “cushion” the rise in prices for families and companies. However, she has recognized that, “assuming a scenario of more inflation for a longer time”, due to the latest data on the evolution of oil or gas after the supply cuts from Russia to Europe.
– Calviño made these statements at the opening of the UIMP summer courses in Santander, where he assessed that despite the uncertainty that exists, economic growth is going to be “higher than that of other European countries”. Algeria ignores EU warnings supporting Government of Pedro Sánchez and his deals with Morocco that negate long term agreements Spain had with Algeria regarding the Sahara independence movement – serious new retaliations by the Algerian government against Spain: {Translation, summary}
– Algerians accuse Pedro Sánchez’s government: “What he has done with the Sahara is a betrayal”. (Quote from https://sevilla.abc.es/espana/abci-argelinos-acusan-gobierno-pedro-sanchez-hecho-sahara-traicion-202206190128_noticia.html)
– On Sunday, the Algerian tourism ministry ordered its travel agencies to cut off relations with Spain. The ministry sent out a circular of just three lines in which it points out that, “in the framework of the implementation of the decision of the country’s high authorities to suspend the friendship treaty signed on 8 October 2002, you are requested to immediately suspend all working relations with this country”.
– It also stressed in the communiqué that “all working relations with this country are requested to be suspended immediately”. This decision which, in the context of the suspension on 8 June of the Treaty of Cooperation and Friendship, is in addition to the suspension of direct debits with Spanish companies.
– According to Algerian media, this suspension of relations between travel agencies and Spain is due to the holding of the first Morocco-Spain investment forum in Dakhla, Western Sahara. This meeting is intended to “promote investment in this region”. ANDALUCIA

PPs Juanma Moreno- “We have opened the way to regroup the centre-right in the centre lane”: {Translation, summary}
– The PP candidate and winner of the Andalusian elections, Juanma Moreno, considers that the absolute majority obtained allows them to open “a way to regroup the centre-right” through the “central lane”, leaving aside other “more uncomfortable” options and with “a free hand” against parties such as Vox.
– Moreno has explained that in the last days of the campaign he was already handling data that brought him close to an absolute majority, but not so resounding as to win 58 seats, and has guaranteed that he will govern without “losing his head” and maintaining dialogue “with everyone”.
– He admitted on Cope and Onda Cero that the Andalusian elections have an important national background, since the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “today has a much bigger problem than he had before yesterday” because “doubts and cracks are opening up” in the PSOE and the Andalusian result “is going to weigh” on that party.
– The Andalusian president has expressed his conviction that Sánchez will try to hold out “until the end”, but “if things continue in this cascade” he would not be surprised if he were to renounce his candidacy in the general elections: “These elections have been in Andalusian terms, but everyone knows that there was also a desire to give Sánchez a red card”, he said.
– In addition, he believes that the barons will “mark distances” with Sánchez with a view to the next regional elections, because “many will not want his presence” in their territories.
– He admitted that he sees Ciudadanos already “on the verge of extinction” after being left out of the Andalusian Parliament and has left the door open to having some of its councillors in the next government, in which not all its members will have PP affiliation. France awakens to an emboldened Le Pen after far-right gains:
Le Pen’s National Rally party didn’t win the two rounds of voting in the parliamentary election, which ended Sunday. But it secured more than 10 times the seats it won five years ago. It was only a couple of months ago that Le Pen lost the presidential election to Macron. But now it was her turn to gloat, since she knows she can use the seats in the National Assembly to thwart Macron’s domestic agenda and even trigger a no-confidence vote. Ryanair Airline Strikes Update- Belgium, Portugal, France and Italy join Spain:
– In Spain, USO and Sitcpla have summoned Ryanair cabin crew (TCP) to six days of strike, which begin this week. The twenty-four hour stoppages start this Friday, the 24th, and extend to: June 25, 26 and 30 and July 1 and 2 at the ten bases of the Irish airline in the country.
– Along with Spain, there are other countries where Ryanair workers are called to stop at the end of this week. At the moment, the stoppages are framed in June, with fewer days of strike than in Spain.
– In Portugal and Belgium there are three days of called stoppages. The Belgian ACV, PULS and CNE unions and the Portuguese SNPVAC have called for the Ryanair crew to stop in those countries on June 24, 25 and 26.

TECH

Strike scheduled for Spanish computer consulting and technology companies- “They want minimum wages in a high-skilled sector”: {Translation, summary}
– “Society still thinks that computer scientists are highly paid because of their high qualifications. Nothing could be further from the truth”. Against this backdrop, the CCOO and UGT unions have announced the call for a partial strike, with two-hour stoppages on Thursday 23 June, in the computer consultancy and technology companies (ICT) sector, which employs half a million people. “We have at least ten professional categories below the minimum wage, which is unacceptable in a highly qualified sector with companies that make huge profits,” the trade union confederations warned.
– CCOO and UGT have also called several protests in front of the employers’ association and in front of large companies in the sector, such as the so-called Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG), with the intention of pressuring the AEC to improve the conditions of the collective bargaining agreement. Above all, they are demanding a boost in salaries in the agreement, which in many categories are so low that they do not even reach the new SMI of one thousand euros gross per month, but they are also demanding more rights and improvements for professionals in an emerging and growing sector in the face of digitalisation. Cambodian catches world’s largest recorded freshwater fish:
The world’s largest recorded freshwater fish, a giant stingray, has been caught in the Mekong River in Cambodia, according to scientists from the Southeast Asian nation and the United States. The stingray, captured on June 13, measured almost four meters (13 feet) from snout to tail and weighed slightly under 300 kilograms (660 pounds), according to a statement Monday by Wonders of the Mekong, a joint Cambodian-U.S. research project. The fish was released back into the river after examination and measurements were confirmed.
The previous record for a freshwater fish was a 293-kilogram (646-pound) Mekong giant catfish, discovered in Thailand in 2005, the group said. Photo: Chhut Chheana/Wonders of the Mekong.
