Computer Workers On Strike Thursday: In support of my fellow computer technicians, DoctorLaptop will be closed this Thursday. “Society continues to think that computer engineers are very well-paid personnel due to their high qualifications. Nothing is further from reality”. “We have at least ten professional categories below the minimum wage, which is unsustainable in a highly qualified sector and with companies that make great profits,” the trade union centrals have warned as they go on strike Thursday demanding higher wages and shorter hours.

Today is Summer Solstice 2022- The First Day of Summer:
In 2022, the June solstice occurs on Tuesday, June 21, marking the astronomical first day of summer.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe. (In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: the June solstice marks the astronomical start of winter, when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky.) This is the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest “day,” we mean the longest period of sunlight hours.) On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year. Full article: https://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-summer-summer-solstice

Calviño acknowledges that the high inflation scenario will last longer: The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, defended this Monday that the Government’s measures are making it possible to “cushion” the rise in prices for families and companies. However, she has recognized that, “assuming a scenario of more inflation for a longer time”, due to the latest data on the evolution of oil or gas after the supply cuts from Russia to Europe.
– Calviño made these statements at the opening of the UIMP summer courses in Santander, where he assessed that despite the uncertainty that exists, economic growth is going to be “higher than that of other European countries”. Algeria ignores EU warnings supporting Government of Pedro Sánchez and his deals with Morocco that negate long term agreements Spain had with Algeria regarding the Sahara independence movement – serious new retaliations by the Algerian government against Spain: {Translation, summary}
– Algerians accuse Pedro Sánchez’s government: “What he has done with the Sahara is a betrayal”. (Quote from https://sevilla.abc.es/espana/abci-argelinos-acusan-gobierno-pedro-sanchez-hecho-sahara-traicion-202206190128_noticia.html)
– On Sunday, the Algerian tourism ministry ordered its travel agencies to cut off relations with Spain. The ministry sent out a circular of just three lines in which it points out that, “in the framework of the implementation of the decision of the country’s high authorities to suspend the friendship treaty signed on 8 October 2002, you are requested to immediately suspend all working relations with this country”.
– It also stressed in the communiqué that “all working relations with this country are requested to be suspended immediately”. This decision which, in the context of the suspension on 8 June of the Treaty of Cooperation and Friendship, is in addition to the suspension of direct debits with Spanish companies.
– According to Algerian media, this suspension of relations between travel agencies and Spain is due to the holding of the first Morocco-Spain investment forum in Dakhla, Western Sahara. This meeting is intended to “promote investment in this region”. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/espana/abci-argelia-ordena-agencias-viajes-cesar-relaciones-espana-202206201505_noticia.html

ANDALUCIA
PPs Juanma Moreno- “We have opened the way to regroup the centre-right in the centre lane”: {Translation, summary}
– The PP candidate and winner of the Andalusian elections, Juanma Moreno, considers that the absolute majority obtained allows them to open “a way to regroup the centre-right” through the “central lane”, leaving aside other “more uncomfortable” options and with “a free hand” against parties such as Vox.
– Moreno has explained that in the last days of the campaign he was already handling data that brought him close to an absolute majority, but not so resounding as to win 58 seats, and has guaranteed that he will govern without “losing his head” and maintaining dialogue “with everyone”.
– He admitted on Cope and Onda Cero that the Andalusian elections have an important national background, since the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “today has a much bigger problem than he had before yesterday” because “doubts and cracks are opening up” in the PSOE and the Andalusian result “is going to weigh” on that party.
– The Andalusian president has expressed his conviction that Sánchez will try to hold out “until the end”, but “if things continue in this cascade” he would not be surprised if he were to renounce his candidacy in the general elections: “These elections have been in Andalusian terms, but everyone knows that there was also a desire to give Sánchez a red card”, he said.
– In addition, he believes that the barons will “mark distances” with Sánchez with a view to the next regional elections, because “many will not want his presence” in their territories.
– He admitted that he sees Ciudadanos already “on the verge of extinction” after being left out of the Andalusian Parliament and has left the door open to having some of its councillors in the next government, in which not all its members will have PP affiliation. France awakens to an emboldened Le Pen after far-right gains:
Le Pen’s National Rally party didn’t win the two rounds of voting in the parliamentary election, which ended Sunday. But it secured more than 10 times the seats it won five years ago. It was only a couple of months ago that Le Pen lost the presidential election to Macron. But now it was her turn to gloat, since she knows she can use the seats in the National Assembly to thwart Macron’s domestic agenda and even trigger a no-confidence vote. Ryanair Airline Strikes Update- Belgium, Portugal, France and Italy join Spain:
– In Spain, USO and Sitcpla have summoned Ryanair cabin crew (TCP) to six days of strike, which begin this week. The twenty-four hour stoppages start this Friday, the 24th, and extend to: June 25, 26 and 30 and July 1 and 2 at the ten bases of the Irish airline in the country.
– Along with Spain, there are other countries where Ryanair workers are called to stop at the end of this week. At the moment, the stoppages are framed in June, with fewer days of strike than in Spain.
– In Portugal and Belgium there are three days of called stoppages. The Belgian ACV, PULS and CNE unions and the Portuguese SNPVAC have called for the Ryanair crew to stop in those countries on June 24, 25 and 26.
– In France, the SNPNC union has called a strike on June 25 and 26 and, from Italy, UILTRASPORTI and FILT-CGIL have done so on June 25, in a single day. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/belgium-portugal-france-and-italy-join-spain/

Strike scheduled for Spanish computer consulting and technology companies- “They want minimum wages in a high-skilled sector”: {Translation, summary}
– “Society still thinks that computer scientists are highly paid because of their high qualifications. Nothing could be further from the truth”. Against this backdrop, the CCOO and UGT unions have announced the call for a partial strike, with two-hour stoppages on Thursday 23 June, in the computer consultancy and technology companies (ICT) sector, which employs half a million people. “We have at least ten professional categories below the minimum wage, which is unacceptable in a highly qualified sector with companies that make huge profits,” the trade union confederations warned.
– CCOO and UGT have also called several protests in front of the employers’ association and in front of large companies in the sector, such as the so-called Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG), with the intention of pressuring the AEC to improve the conditions of the collective bargaining agreement. Above all, they are demanding a boost in salaries in the agreement, which in many categories are so low that they do not even reach the new SMI of one thousand euros gross per month, but they are also demanding more rights and improvements for professionals in an emerging and growing sector in the face of digitalisation. Cambodian catches world’s largest recorded freshwater fish:
The world’s largest recorded freshwater fish, a giant stingray, has been caught in the Mekong River in Cambodia, according to scientists from the Southeast Asian nation and the United States. The stingray, captured on June 13, measured almost four meters (13 feet) from snout to tail and weighed slightly under 300 kilograms (660 pounds), according to a statement Monday by Wonders of the Mekong, a joint Cambodian-U.S. research project. The fish was released back into the river after examination and measurements were confirmed.
The previous record for a freshwater fish was a 293-kilogram (646-pound) Mekong giant catfish, discovered in Thailand in 2005, the group said. Photo: Chhut Chheana/Wonders of the Mekong.
