Taxi Charges

Can anyone explain how taxi charges are worked out? I use a taxi from Pueblo Rocio to Pacomari Restaurant in Calle Gloria. The same journey, same time mid week, different prices. 6.45, 7.80, 7.20.  My cheapest journey was this week from the top of town taxi rank to Pueblo Rocio. cost 5 euro, this was worth paying a tip for. Why do they press the button giving a different price than the price on the clock when you arrive. I would be pleased if someone can explain this for me and stop me moaning on and on about it.
