AAR Appeal for Case Workers.

We need some special people to come on board and help us. Please don’t sit back thinking of all the things you can’t do.   If you are able to be online for a couple of hours plus, most days, we need you. Complaint – Lack of Important Info I must be turning into a grumpy old woman!!   I have looked at the various advertisements today and (unless I’m completely missing something) none of the following included their location:
Nancy, teaching Spanish;  Complete house sale;  6 rush sheet chairs;  artificial beams;  large display cabinet and mirror;  water distiller;  gel nails;  various clothes.
My first thought, when I see something interesting, is to find out where it is.   When there’s no  information I immediately lose interest.   I’m sure other people must be the same.   (Or perhaps it is just me!)

Book Signing by local author John Hardy

John will be at the Christmas Fayre this Saturday 11th November at La Tabla, Torrox Park from 11 – 3.  He will be selling signed copies of all his books – some are short stories of crime and mystery, set in this area of Spain (‘Malaga Mysteries’), the UK (‘East Side Stories’) and worldwide (‘Twisted Tales’). Some of these are available in both Spanish and German. Plus the book ‘Sedella – the history of a Spanish village’ which is a mix of fact and fiction about an Andalucían village from prehistoric times to the present day.  The books make ideal Christmas presents for family and friends both living here and in the UK. I write to You because my dog Popi – one-year-old American Stafford – run away. She is white with black spots all over body and left eye like pirate one. She just had three puppies and two were adopted and one brown one is with the mother now on run – probably looking for little ones.   I live in Nerja near Capistrano village and yesterday morning 7th. nov. gardeners saw them together in the garden next to my campo.   Here is a picture attached with letter and I  don’t have a mobile but i can be reached trough this number by asking Matia   653557817    Thank you very much for your help.

Complaint ( one of several on this subject)  In Tuesday’s edition on Digamextra there was an advert for Silks market and at the end it says “see you there”. Well I won’t be seeing you there if I don’t know where it is. Subscribers should give sufficient information when  advertising an article. We present the Composer and pianist Jose Carra is one of the most creative pianists of the new generation of Spanish jazz musicians. His music is strongly influenced by classical music and jazz, but also by many other styles such as rock, pop, electronic music or popular music. Poetry also plays a key role in his compositions, creating a very personal and recognizable universe. We find this lyrical world in his new album, “Verso”. This new work, which has already been presented at festivals and jazz clubs throughout Spain.    José has played and recorded with prestigious jazz musicians such as Sheila Jordan, Peter Bernstein, Eric Alexander, Lee Konitz… and with flamenco references such as Argentina, Jorge Pardo or Carles Benavent. Reward of €500 for safe return of African Grey Parrot Cindy.  

She flew away on 14 October in the Pago Al Galera area between Nerja and Frigiliana, and was seen on 23^rd of October in the San Rafael area of Frigiliana.    She is friendly and will approach people for food and water. When she goes to someone they should put her in a bathroom. Easy to clean when she poops! She’s used to that, on the top of the shower door, birds feel safe when high up. When on a hand, sometimes she will hold a finger in her beak for balance, she’s not a biter.   She can eat just about anything people eat. What’s on- The Torrox Spanish History Group                                                        This is a new group which will begin in November of this year. One of the History Groups aims will be to gain a better understanding of the existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the Spanish People and explore both the local History as well as on a much wider scale. The present is in fact the past! There will be short talks on particular periods or areas of history of members’ choosing and by studying History we hope we will begin to understand the present and provide an insight into the way Spain has evolved through history to the present day.    Also included in the new group will be Archaeology as well as Anthropology. New archaeological finds have been discovered up and down the coast East of Malaga and the local area abounds with historical sites which  are easy to get to using public transport and so we will enjoy short trips to historical sites to unravel the past and to learn more about Spain’s fascinating history.  If you would like to learn more about Spain’s History and also would like to take part in discussions and talks please come along and join the new Torrox Spanish History Group.  The idea is that we should meet in a friendly relaxed and informal atmosphere with like minded people and have fun as well as learning and sharing ideas and knowledge about Spanish History. Also to enjoy short trips to places of interest using local transport.  This group will be quite different from the Nerja Spanish History group and is not meant to imitate it in anyway. At our first meeting will discuss  where to hold the venue, the name of the group and how members would like to proceed as well as areas of particular interest to individual members.  Once I know how many people would like to join I will set a time and date for our first meeting so that we can all meet together and discuss how we would like to proceed.    I am experienced at organising groups having been a Guide for over 20 years; giving talks on Spanish History as well as being the Group leader of the successful Spanish History Group of the U3A for five years.   If you are interested then please email me at    patricianerja at hotmail dot com.

Help Needed with Chrome Problem  Could any experienced “Chrome browser” user please help with an irritating problem? It will not allow me to put websites onto the desktop. Thus: The correct procedure is to 1) open the website.2) open the chrome menu ( top right).3) select “More tools”. 4) select “Add to desktop”……simples?…Not for me!   When I do this, the website icon appears on the  desktop OK, but when I click on it, it simply opens my home page on the browser; not the web page.  If I try another option; ie dragging the web from the title bar to the desktop, it works perfectly, except that it only shows the generic “Chrome” icon, not the preferred official icon ( eg; the Amazon “A”).   Is there a Chrome user out there who can put me out of my misery?                                              Please email me :jon 108 at hotmail dot co dot uk ( no spaces )    Thankyou. Weather permitting!! Hire pedalos or eat in the many restaurants of the area.  2 nights, is it enough ? Maybe book an extra night for the special price of 50€ per room.   Autumn is here, what better than a nice break in a lovely room, lots to do and see, then back to a peaceful garden to sit by the Adalucian kitchen, G&T in hand and wait for a lovely home cooked meal.   Makes great birthday or anniversary treat. On Tuesday 7th November, The Nerja Players will entertain you with a one Act Play by Alan Bennett  …SAY SOMETHING HAPPENED.    Mr and Mrs Rhodes get a visit from a novice social worker trying to help, but her inefficiency soon shows through……but…Say Something Happened – Set in the familiar West Yorkshire landscape of his youth, Bennett gives us a skillfully drawn portrait of an aging couple facing the problems of advancing old age and social changes with his customary blend of humour and pathos.    After the interval we will have a session of the always popular ‘WITH GREAT PLEASURE’ featuring contributions from our members, so if you have a song, poem, reading or other that you would like to share then please come prepared.  Non-members are also welcome to participate      Doors open at 18.30 hours and the performance will start at 19:00 hours and will be held in the Nerja Bridge Club – entrance is through the blue doors at the top of Calle Castilla Perez 1, Nerja. Services-Question- Endesa Eroneous Bills  Just back from our usual six month absence and we have found a pile of Endesa bills with charges for the months we were away, even though the house is locked and the electricity turned off.  We checked the figure on the new meter and it’s half what they say our reading is on their paperwork.  I thought this new meter was going to magically send electricity usage to the bills department so that estimated bills would no longer happen, but it seems not.  Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what do we need to do?  We called into Endesa today and she suggested we have a faulty meter and would send a man out.  In my view the meter is correct.  It’s the data they receive their end which is incorrect.  As it happens, another expat neighbour has the same problem.  Maggie     Mariordan at AOL dot com

Women of Andalucia    A group of very nice women with lots of different ideas and opinions got together for the first time last week for our first meeting. Hopefully our group will turn out to be a lively place for friendship, discussion and fun.
