Warning re Pain Killers   A while ago Doctor Laptop sent us a warning on Digame, regarding some painkillers that were prescribed to him here in Spain and subsequently made him very ill.
The medication is banned in the UK, USA, Australia, Scandinavia and other European countries. It is particularly dangerous to Northern Europeans, reference www.costa-news.com 22.09.2016  the sun.co.uk 27.07 2016. My British friend was prescribed the drug only last week from the medical centre in La Vinuela and obtained the tablets at the pharmacia also in La Vinuela. My friend had no knowledge that the drugs are potentially lethal to Northern Europeans, but fortunately I had read Dr Laptop’s message . The drug is Metamizol which is also known as Nolotil, Dipyrone, Analgin and Novalgin and Melugin.
Take care to check all medication prescribed in Spain for your own safety.

Young Cats – Pinky. Perky and Kitten –
                                                                              Please, is there anyone out there to help home these young cats or offer advice on where to take them? Their owner lost her husband 8 weeks back, leaving her house to be sold, a dog which was eventually ‘rescued’ and these little creatures to fend for themselves. They gradually made their way over to our casa when the weather was quite shocking where food was offered and an outdoor but sheltered bed provided. A mistake perhaps, but what else could I do? They are around 6-9 months old, quite shy but very sweet. I had the little tri-coloured girl spayed only last week as the boys were giving her some grief and all is now well. Our predicament is that our house has now sold (much quicker than expected) and we leave mid-April and I know for a fact that the new owner does not want them. I cannot just stop feeding them to leave them alone in the Alto. Nor do I want them to be put down. I have contacted 2 well known cat homes, asked neighbours, and friends afar but to no avail. Dog Walkers Needed
Now we are finally getting some sunshine, come and get fit and walk a dog at the same time. Tail Torrox has dogs and pups to suit all levels of walkers and they all love to get out. We also always welcome help with lead training puppies. It is a great help to us to so please come and visit. Any day after 10am , closed between 14.00 and 16.00 hrs.

What’s on- . The Torrox Spanish History Group
   The Group has now had four very successful and well attended group meetings as well as two outings to historical places of interest and we are looking forward to more visits in the coming year. All visits are chosen so that they are within easy reach by car or bus.
Our next group meeting will be on Tuesday the 3rd of April and the talk will be on the Spanish Civil war. Our speaker will be the well known author Joan Fallon who has written books on Spanish History which is a passion of Joan’s and she is the author of “Daughters of Spain” and “The Ring of Flames” set in 11th century Cordoba and many more besides.
Joan’s books will be at a reduced price for members and she will also sign any books which are purchased.
Our talk in May will on the Romans in Spain with a second talk on the Caliphates and in June there will be a talk on the Habsburg’s.

What’s on The Phoenix Social Club of Torre del Mar was awarded a Bronze Medal by La Cruz Roja on Thursday 22nd March at the Hotel Yaramar in Fuengirola. Pic This medal was one of only 4 awarded in the Province of Malaga and the only English speaking association to receive one and is in recognition of our financial contributions towards the work of La Cruz Roja.
The bronze medal was presented by the Mayor of Fuengirola to the Vice President, Tim Denham, who received it on behalf of our members. The Club Treasurer Mary Burbery and her husband David, also attended the presentation. It is a great honour for The Phoenix Club to be recognised, for the financial contributions we make bi-annually, giving something back to our host country via The Red Cross. What’s on –Singing for Pleasure Group                      The U3A Singing group is reforming after a year’s break.  This fun group is for anyone who enjoys singing for the sheer enjoyment of opening their lungs and singing for a couple of hours each month in convivial company.  We are not a choir and don’t perform in public, but get together once a month to sing our favourite songs including traditional, folk, pop, songs from the shows etc. All chosen by you, the participants.  All nationalities are welcome with their songs. What’s on-: Chiki’s Wednesday Cooking Classes           Our ‘’Canning’’ cooking class has attracted confusion since we mention that each participant will go home with their own preserved jar.  Where is the ‘’can’’ ¿? I have been asked…  Well, the term canning is an American term.  British English prefers to call this process ‘’preserving’’ food.  So on Wed.
