Ventana Abierta Jazz Club: Edu Cabello Quartet (Barcelona)
Edu Cabello Quartet is a musical project based in Barcelona, where its members meet in 2017. It is in mid-2018 when they decide to join to prepare their first album “Loop”, released at the end of the same year by BCN Jazz Collective and presented in a way Official at the Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona.
Despite having strong roots in jazz, his music was born without the intention of being classified and giving total freedom to the structure, harmony, texture and tempo and, above all, to creativity, trying to create a lively reflective, lively atmosphere and rich in nuances, through the improvised interaction of its members..

Recommendations

Recommendation for SPW Construction Services:
On 21st August, we read a recommendation for SPW Construction Services,
submitted by Jenny of Torrox.
As we required similar work to that carried out for Jenny, plus rejas & metal doors painted, we phoned Scott, who came , saw the work & quoted for it. We were happy with the price so agreed for him to do the work. However, after a couple of days, seeing how the team worked, the preparation of the work, the quality of the materials used & the results, we asked him for a quote to sort out the balustrades surrounding the terrace. Again the quote was more that acceptable They are completed & look ” fab “. Scott then quoted to paint 5metal doors, 2 exterior, 3 within the downstairs terrace. The additional work was requested based on the quality of work we had seen, which speaks for itself.
We would not hesitate to use SPW Construction Services again or to recommend
this efficient team to anybody.
The day SPW completed the work & before Scott left us, he said to us ( an elderly
couple living in the campo) ” If you are in trouble or need help- not building work – but anything, do not hesitate to call us. We live 5-6 minutes away from you & would come to your assistance.
This speaks multitude, as far as I am concerned, as to the nature of Scott.

Old Scam Returns: Beware of the fake water, gas, power and other inspectors who show up unannounced and request entry to your home. Hidralia, the company that manages the supply network in Estepona is alerting townspeople and residents further afield on the Costa del Sol, saying its workers do not enter people’s homes, either to repair leaks or make inspections.
However, it has had reports of people wearing similar clothing approaching householders. People should not let ‘water inspectors’, into their homes and should notify police, the statement concluded.

9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.

Alicante floods: How to make a claim if you suffered damage.
Residents who were affected by floods in the worst storms to hit the region in 140 years can now make a claim for emergency funding. A pay out emergency claims of up to €4,500 to those who suffered damage. Emergency grants are available to residents who apply before October 14th at their local town hall. Successful applicants will receive an initial €1,500 which can rise to a maximum of €4,500.

3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana: One more year, in the unique setting such as Frigiliana, one of “The most beautiful villages in Spain”, more than 50 artists from 12 different nationalities will show their works in the 34 locations that you will discover along your walk through the picturesque white streets. From the 4th to the 6th of October 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organized by Maribel Martín and Brendon Taylor (Studio-gallery AMARTE) in collaboration with the Town Hall of Frigiliana.
Among the particularities of this edition, it requires a special mention, the posthumous tribute to Soledad Platero Sánchez (1995-2019) in LOCALIZATION Nº14, where along with her posthumous work, will be the initiative A DAFFODIL FOR SOLEDAD, charitable proposal to raise funds for research against cancer, in general and sarcoma, in particular.
We also want to highlight our Photocall, thanks to which you can be part of the 3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana, as a spectator and as a creator. Recommendations

Andalucia is to legalise more than 327,000 homes that have been in a legal limbo:
A decree from the Junta de Andalucia aims to put an end to the uncertainty in which 327,583 dwellings built throughout Andalucia on land not zoned for housing have found themselves in.
Owners of these houses will have to take the first step and ask their local council to abide by this regulation. This is not an amnesty. Houses built in protected areas such as national parks, within 100 metres of coastline or where demolition orders have been confirmed by the courts are not covered by the decree.
But it is hoped that it will remove the fear of demolition for the vast majority of the properties affected. In the past several houses have been knocked down. The courts arguing compensation should be paid to the owners by the developers or the local council that gave permission for their construction in the first place. The compensation process can take years to get through the courts.
The regulations allow for groups of houses to become urbanisations without being on the official urban development plans (PGOU). Up until now this was not possible and it could take up to nine years to be included. Instead they will be able to be included on a special development plan, which takes about 20 months. This will allow them to access basic services such as electricity and water supplies.
Most of the affected houses are in coastal provinces. Malaga (68,652), Almeria (55,265) and Granada (52,927) occupy the top positions of the list.
Many of these homes were originally built with permission from the local town hall but in areas not officially zoned for housing.
Many people bought their homes in good faith, thinking everything was above board and legal, only to later find the properties were unsaleable due to their ‘irregular’ status. Hopefully now most of these disputed builds can be legalized and bring to an end many years of anxiety.

Alicante braces for mosquito plague: Just as the Alicante region is counting the costs of the worst floods in recorded history to hit the province, biology experts and warning of a secondary catastrophe to emerge from the flood waters. As parts of the region remain under water, the stagnant and murky swamps provide perfect breeding grounds for a multitude of insects including millions of biting flies such as the aggressive tiger mosquito. Environmental experts are also warning of the possibility that the marsh areas are harbouring the eggs of the Asian tiger mosquitos. This invasive species has spread rapidly throughout Europe in the past years and has the potential to carry serious diseases.  Source Link

 

Unidentified Insect: I am quite confident that the Insect is a Water Scorpion (Nepa cinerea), it is easier to identify with a clearer Photograph, when you know its rough size and it is laid out properly displaying all the appendages, however, I am quite sure I have identified the type of Insect correctly. Water Scorpions come in lots of different shapes and sizes, but the Ovipositor looking bit sticking out of the rear (a Snorkel to assist in underwater breathing) helps identify it. 14th Edition of the Marbella International Film Festival: 2nd – 6th October 2019
The list of nominated films for screening in Marbella as part of the 2019 festival will be revealed shortly. -Our next talk will be on October 1st and our speaker will be Roy (Vernon) who is giving a talk on Guernica entitled “Why Guernica!”
The bombing of Guernica on 26 April 1937 was an aerial bombing of the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War by the Nazi’s German Luftwaffes Condor legion.
The bombing is the subject of the anti-war painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso
-On September 3rd we enjoyed an excellent talk given by Anne (Hayes) who gave a talk about the evacuation of the Basque children in 1937 when just under 4,000 children arrived at the Southampton Docks on 23rd May 1937. They traveled to Britain on the steamship Habana. An area of the Spanish Civil war which has not been covered a great deal by Civil War historians. One of our new members is the daughter of one of the teenagers who was sent to Britain at a later date in 1939 and she has the original news papers reporting about the evacuation of Basque children at the time and she will be bringing in copies for us to look at, at our next meeting.
-Our coach trip in November will be to Gerald Brenans house in Alhaurin el Grande.

Ventana Abierta Jazz Club: Ventana Abierta Jazz Club presents the project of the Italian pianist Yuri Storione, who attends with a quartet of great musicians and the special participation of saxophonist Enrique Oliver.
Coming from classical music, Storione began playing at age 4. Once in the world of jazz, he earned his bachelor’s degree at the Berklee Music School and was a finalist in the prestigious piano competition of the Montreaux Jazz Festival. He studied with musicians like Larry Grenadier, who said of him: “Yuri has been one of my favorite students at the the Jazz Campus in Basel. It’s been my extreme pleasure to watch him the last couple of years mature into a very fine piano player. Yuri has all the things going for him to make him a player of great distinction in the near future. I look forward to witnessing his continuing growth as a musician.”
In this project, Storione offers a repertoire of original compositions, reflecting various aspects of current jazz, aimed at highlighting the individual virtues and versatility of the accompanying musicians.

John Illsley of Dire Straits: Wednesday 9th October at Paris 15, Calle la Orotava, Malága. As one of the founding band members, with guitarist brothers Mark and David Knopfler, and drummer Pick Withers, Illsley played a role in the development of Dire Straits’ sound. By the time the group disbanded in 1995 changes in personnel meant that Illsley and lead singer Mark Knopfler were the only two original band members remaining. Illsley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Dire Straits in 2018.
Illsley has produced two albums of his own, with Mark Knopfler as a guest musician, and has helped with Mark’s personal projects and charities.

Lost- Cordless vacuum: I know it’s a very long shot but I cleaned my car on Saturday and left the cordless vacuum cleaner on a bench in Calle Monte Alegre Torrox. It was gone when I checked back later. I have the charger so it’s no use when it runs down.

Did Apple Just Make Your Mobile Device (iPhone&iPad) Obsolete?: Apple made its iOS 13 update available for download on Thursday, Sept. 19. iPads will get updated on on Sept. 30, the release date for its new iPadOS.
But not every Apple device can handle the iOS and iPadOS updates, which means some iPhones and iPads will become obsolete. That means they won’t receive any future updates, beyond occasional security patches, and spare parts will become unavailable.
The iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus, and the sixth generation iPod Touch will not work with iOS 13.
Apple’s iOS 13 will also not support Apple’s iPads. Instead, iPads will get their own operating system, iPadOS. The second and third generation iPad mini, released in 2013 and 2014, respectively, and 2013’s iPad Air will not support the new iPadOS.
However, the iPad Air 2, released in 2014, will be able to handle iPadOS.

Almuñécar
9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.

Tickets for A Chorus Line will go on sale in a week’s time: The date of A Chorus Line’s premiere is still up in the air, yet show rehearsals are fully under way, as confirmed at a colourful press conference on Thursday. The company, led by Malaga actor and theatre-owner Antonio Banderas, delighted the press, singing and dancing on stage in unison, with, most noticeably, beaming smiles. From 9th to 20th of October ( no performance on Monday 14th) popular director Catrina Helsby brings this touching story to life.

Contaminated Drugs Scandal: Malaga Based Drug Company Packaging Blunder Gives Children Werewolf Features!: This summer, the Spanish Pharmacovigilance System for Medicinal Products for Human Use were notified of 13 cases of hypertrichosis in children associated with the use of master formulae containing the active substance omeprazole from the Malaga-based company Farma-Química Sur S.L.
Hypertrichosis is an abnormal amount of hair growth over the body. The two distinct types of hypertrichosis are generalized hypertrichosis, which occurs over the entire body, and localised hypertrichosis, which is restricted to a certain area.
After an analysis was carried out by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, it was found that a particular batch had been mislabelled and the product actually contained minoxidil rather than omeprazole.
