SPAIN

Sánchez and Montero {pic} increased taxes and social security contributions 141 times, which now subtract 21,144 euros from the average salary: {Trans., summary}
– The Spanish State now claims more than half the total salary of an average worker, according to the 2026 Tax Meter produced by the Juan de Mariana Institute. The total tax burden stands at 21,144 euros a year, or 53.6 percent of the full labour cost of 39,481 euros, leaving the worker with only 46.4 percent of what the employer pays. The figure includes income tax, social contributions, VAT, special taxes, municipal duties, corporation tax effects and the deferred burden of the public deficit (1,112 euros per person).
– Since Pedro Sanchez took office in 2018, 141 tax and contribution rises have been approved or consolidated, many through silent methods such as failure to adjust income tax bands for inflation (46 hidden rises between 2019 and 2026) and cadastral revisions. New 2026 measures will further increase the burden, including higher social security contributions and removal of agricultural deductions.
– Tax revenue has reached 591,679 million euros (37.1 percent of GDP), yet Spanish incomes remain below the European average. Over a working lifetime the average citizen pays nearly half a million euros in taxes. The report depicts a steadily expanding State role secured largely by non-transparent means, steadily eroding citizens’ economic margin. Self-employed workers are angry! They complain that the Government has not frozen social security contributions for everyone and that “a third will see their minimum contributions increase by 135 euros per month”: {Trans.}
– ATA president and CEOE vice-president Lorenzo Amor {pic} has criticised on Wednesday the increase in social security contributions for more than 400,000 family collaborator self-employed workers and more than 800,000 self-employed company members (autónomos societarios) with monthly incomes close to 1,000 euros, as a result of the 2022 reform.
– According to ATA, this year the contribution base for these self-employed workers has risen by 42% (from 1,000 euros to 1,424 euros) due to a provision included in the 2022 reform legislation. This provision established that, starting this year, these self-employed workers cannot have a contribution base lower than the minimum base of the General Social Security Regime. This increase in the base results in a higher monthly contribution.
– “The Government has lied to self-employed workers again. It has not frozen 2025 contribution rates for all self-employed workers in 2026. One third of self-employed workers will see their minimum contributions rise by 135 euros more per month (1,620 euros per year),” Amor stated in a social media message.
– The 2022 reform — agreed with self-employed associations, the employers’ confederation and the trade unions — established that the contribution base for self-employed company members (autónomos societarios), family collaborators, and those who do not declare income could not be lower than the minimum base of the General Regime starting in 2026.
– “This is stated in the decree-law that approved the reform and in the General Social Security Law itself, and no one has questioned it until now,” sources from Social Security pointed out. The same sources added that the Government “continues to extend a hand” to self-employed associations, the employers’ confederation, and trade unions to specify the terms for implementing the new system of contributions based on real income, improvements to the annual regularization process of contributions paid, and the extension of protective measures for self-employed workers.
– ATA has announced that it is working with several parliamentary groups to seek an “immediate solution with retroactive effect” from 1 January 2026. It has also asked the Government to draw up a law that prevents what it calls a “heavy blow” (“sablazo”). At the beginning of the year, the Government included in the pension revaluation decree the extension of the 2025 Social Security contribution tables for self-employed workers.
– However, changes were specified for the maximum base in the two upper brackets — which will be updated in line with the maximum contribution ceiling of 3,359.6 euros per month or 47,034.4 euros per year — and some improvements for multiple employment (pluriactividad).

TORROX

Remains of a ten-meter whale found on the Torrexeña beach of Ferrara: {Trans., summary}
– The remains of a large cetacean, probably a whale, were discovered on Tuesday on Ferrara beach in Torrox-Costa, Málaga province. The badly decomposed body, partially submerged near the shore, surprised residents and walkers who alerted the authorities. Municipal workers used heavy machinery to remove the carcass after securing the area. The Andalusian Regional Government’s Environment Department was notified and the remains were to be transferred on Wednesday to Torrox’s waste site for disposal.
– Experts identified the specimen as likely a common rorqual whale, measuring at least 9 to 10 metres, though some suggested it could be a beaked whale; the advanced decomposition made precise identification difficult. The stranding is unusual for the Axarquía coast, the last in Torrox having occurred in July 2007. Causes may include disease, disorientation or sea conditions. The incident drew crowds of onlookers, and the council urged people not to approach or touch stranded marine animals but to contact authorities immediately. MIDDLE EAST

US and Iran agree to a two-week ceasefire with a focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz- Pakistan will host a meeting this Friday between delegations from both countries to try to finalize an agreement: {Trans., summary}
– The United States and Iran have agreed a two-week ceasefire effective immediately after more than a month of hostilities sparked by a surprise Israeli and American offensive on 28 February. The new agreement focuses on the full, immediate and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which forms a central part of indirect talks aimed at a fresh nuclear pact. President Trump announced the suspension of attacks against Iran for two weeks provided Tehran opens the strait, describing the arrangement as a reciprocal ceasefire. Iran confirmed safe passage for vessels through coordination with its armed forces, conditional on the cessation of attacks, while praising Pakistani mediation.
– Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated the deal covers Iran and its allies with an immediate ceasefire across all territory, including Lebanon, and invited both sides to final negotiations in Islamabad on 10 April. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq suspended attacks on US interests. Israel expressed support but disputed the inclusion of Lebanon. Both Washington and Tehran claim the truce as a victory. Israel accepts the US-Iran ceasefire but denies that it includes Lebanon: {Trans.}
– The Israeli government announced on Wednesday that it accepts the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran announced by President Donald Trump, but maintains that it does not include Lebanon, where it has an open war front. In a message released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel stated that it “supports Trump’s decision” to halt the attacks on the condition that Iran “immediately opens the straits” and ceases its bombing in the region.
– The statement adds that this two-week ceasefire “does not include Lebanon,” despite Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has mediated the negotiations, previously stating the opposite.
– The Israeli government reiterates its support for Iran not possessing nuclear weapons and not posing a “terrorist threat” to the United States, Israel, and the Arab countries of the region, and clarifies that Washington has assured them that it remains “committed” to this objective in the negotiations. Lebanon denounces a “massacre” with more than 250 dead after the “biggest” Israeli attack against the country despite the ceasefire in Iran: {Trans., summary}
– 160 bombs dropped in 10 minutes on targets across Lebanon constitute Israel’s “largest coordinated attack” since it launched its offensive against the Shiite militia Hezbollah on March 2, in parallel with the war against Iran. The bombings, which were carried out without prior evacuation warning, struck eight areas in the Dahye suburb south of Beirut, as well as various locations in southern and eastern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. Lebanese authorities have confirmed the deaths of at least 254 people in the attacks, which also left more than 1,160 wounded .
– The bombings have sown chaos in the south of the Lebanese capital, causing road gridlock as residents flee the targeted areas and dozens of ambulances and fire trucks are forced to flee. Sánchez calls on the EU to suspend the association agreement with Israel after its attacks on Lebanon- “There must be no impunity”: {Trans., summary}
– The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, on Wednesday deemed “intolerable” the contempt for life and international law shown by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following the attacks he ordered against Lebanon, despite the ceasefire in the Iran-Contra war.
– Sánchez has criticized Netanyahu and called in a message on the social network X for there to be no impunity for these “criminal acts”, after Israeli attacks following the ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran resulted in the death of at least 254 people and left more than 1,160 wounded. Furthermore, he called on the European Union to suspend its association agreement with Israel. “And there must be no impunity for these criminal acts,” the Prime Minister insisted. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

Microsoft Covers Its Ass– Says Copilot AI is intended for ‘entertainment purposes’ only…’use at your own risk’:
– Microsoft states in its terms of service that its Copilot AI tool is intended solely for “entertainment purposes” and should not be used for important decisions or advice, reports Tom’s Hardware. Microsoft also warns that AI can make mistakes, provide misleading answers, and may not always work as intended. “Use Copilot at your own risk.”
– It’s an interesting bit of hedging given that Microsoft has been so heavily pushing Copilot as a productivity tool, going so far as to integrate it into almost every nook and cranny of Windows 11. Sure, that’s the kind of language you’ll find in disclaimers across most AI tools, but Microsoft sure isn’t treating Copilot as just for “entertainment.”
– In a comment to PCMag, a Microsoft spokesperson said: “The ‘entertainment purposes’ phrasing is legacy language from when Copilot originally launched as a search companion service in Bing.” They also added: “As the product has evolved, that language is no longer reflective of how Copilot is used today and will be altered with our next update.”
– That said, even Microsoft is starting to realize that maybe they’ve put all their eggs in the wrong basket. The company recently said it’s rethinking its AI ambitions and it’ll scale back Copilot in Windows 11. Perhaps not the worst move, considering how poorly Copilot has been received by the public—we even think Copilot is the new Internet Explorer. Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN

Sánchez Admin’s Mismanagement Costs Spain Sixty Billion in Lost Recovery Funds- 2025 confirms the worst year for the execution of European funds: {Trans., summary}
– The closure of the 2025 financial year has exposed the devastating failure of Pedro Sanchez’s Government in managing the European Next Generation EU funds after five years. Spain has recorded its worst budgetary execution since the programme began, worse even than the already poor 2024 results. Authorisations, commitments, obligations and especially actual payments have all declined, with the Government achieving only 18.7 percent payment execution of the funds planned for 2025. This means the money has not reached the real economy with the required speed or efficiency, despite being the greatest modernisation opportunity Spain has had in decades.
– Key investing ministries such as Transport, Industry, Housing, Digital Transformation, Ecological Transition and Science continue to show alarmingly low execution rates. Housing executed just 10 percent of its budget and will return 3,250 million euros to Brussels. Science and Innovation, Industry’s PERTEs and Digital Transformation under Oscar Lopez have also underperformed.
– Increased budgetary modifications, more numerous than even during the covid year, reveal opacity and arbitrary governance. The Government has renounced 60,000 million euros in loans, representing 72 percent of the potential amount, through seven addenda that have reduced the plan’s ambition.
– This centralised, interventionist approach has produced bureaucracy, bottlenecks and returns of funds instead of productive investment. With five months remaining, the data confirm that Sanchezism has lacked the administrative capacity to transform this historic European opportunity into real growth, damaging trust and Spain’s future competitiveness. AXARQUÍA

A storm will change the weather in Axarquía, bringing rain, haze and likely thunderstorms: {Trans, summary}
– AEMET expects on Wednesday a storm moving from western Portugal to the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. AEMET forecasts cloudy or very cloudy skies for the province, with persistent rain accompanied by mud deposits, which could be locally heavy. Temperatures will decrease across the board, noticeably the maximums. Winds will be light and variable, with moderate westerly winds in the first half of the day.
– According to current forecasts, the low-pressure system will continue its southward movement on Thursday, settling between western Morocco and the northeastern Canary Islands. This will bring a transitional day to the Axarquía region with more stable weather. Skies will be mostly clear across the area on Thursday. Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged or decrease slightly, while maximum temperatures will rise, noticeably inland.
– With some uncertainty, the forecast for Friday shows the storm approaching the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula again, so scattered showers are possible in the Axarquía region. Hazy skies will also persist. Maximum temperatures will decrease and minimum temperatures will rise.
– Uncertainty is growing for the weekend, as the low-pressure system will likely interact with a new influx of cold air into the peninsula, meaning that unsettled weather and showers could continue throughout the rest of the week in different parts of the country. In short, decidedly spring-like weather, with variable skies and fluctuating temperatures. MALAGA CITY

Marea Blanca (white tide) movement is calling for a demonstration in defense of public healthcare on April 12th in Malaga: {Trans., summary}
– The White Tide movement in Andalusia is calling for demonstrations to denounce the “deterioration and dismantling” of the Andalusian public health system, “driven by the current Andalusian government.” The demonstrations will take place in the capital cities of all eight provinces on Sunday, April 12. In Málaga, the protest will be held that day at 12:00 noon in Plaza de la Marina. The mobilization is being called just before the regional elections to be held on May 17.
– The organizers maintain that the protest will take place “in a context marked by budget cuts, the advance of privatizations, and waiting lists that stretch for months.” Faced with this situation , social groups, neighborhood associations, unions, healthcare professionals, and civil society organizations have joined forces “to halt the progressive deterioration of the public health system” in the autonomous community.
– The march will begin at Plaza de la Marina and proceed along Muelle de Heredia, Alameda Principal, and Calle Larios, ending at Plaza de la Constitución. A manifesto will be read there. The demonstration has the support of more than twenty social groups, unions, political parties, and patient associations. These include CCOO, UGT, CGT, the Andalusian Workers’ Union, PSOE, IU, Podemos, Adelante Andalucía, Facua, and the Andalusian Association of Mental Health Professionals.
– The slogan is “For 100% Public Healthcare .” The organizing groups are inviting people to join the protest and expressing their “absolute rejection” of the “neoliberal policies being implemented by the Andalusian PP government, which are destroying public services.” Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/marea-blanca-convoca-manifestacion-sanidad-publica-malaga_0_2006412346.html

Man attacks his ex-partner’s parents after breaking into their house with a machete in Malaga: {Trans., summary}
– The National Police are continuing their investigation to locate and arrest a man who allegedly forced his way into his ex-partner’s home in the Las Castanetas neighbourhood of Malaga on Saturday 4 April, armed with a large machete and he had his face hidden, apparently with a balaclava or a mask according to those present.
– The incident occurred at around 18:00 hours when the man kicked down the door and entered the property where several family members, including minors, were present. He brandished the machete and issued death threats before stabbing the woman’s parents, causing injuries of varying severity. The mother, aged 48, suffered a cut to her arm and was the most seriously affected. Police and emergency services attended the scene following calls for help.
– During the subsequent investigation officers discovered that the injured father, aged 51, had breached an active restraining order against his wife and arrested him for that offence. A shotgun was also seized from the property. The main suspect, identified by the family as the woman’s ex-husband despite his disguised appearance, remains at large while the investigation continues. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Police crack down on international car theft ring in Vélez-Málaga: {Trans., summary}
– The National Police have dismantled a Lithuanian criminal organization dedicated to the illicit trafficking of vehicles that operated in Vélez-Málaga and the Axarquía region, in an operation that has resulted in the arrest of six people in the provinces of Málaga, Almería and Alicante.
– The investigation, which lasted more than three months, has confirmed that those arrested are the suspected perpetrators of dozens of vehicle thefts in the province of Málaga, all of the same Japanese make. So far, officers have recovered 13 vehicles, and four of those arrested have been remanded in custody. In addition, the searches yielded tools for stealing vehicles, counterfeiting materials, software for cloning keys and control units, as well as more than €2,000 in cash. The operation remains open and investigators are analyzing all the information gathered, so further arrests and the recovery of more vehicles in the coming days are not ruled out. ALMAYATE

Valle-Niza and Almayate Alto, another night of panic over a new wave of thefts: {Trabs., summary}
– Another night of fear in Valle-Niza and Almayate Alto. More robberies. More hooded figures moving through the farms and rural homes in the west of Velez-Malaga. And once again residents have taken to the streets in an attempt to stop what they now consider “a real nightmare”.
– The alarm was raised in the early hours. According to Esther Ruiz, one of the most active neighbours in reporting this wave of crime that has been taking place over the past three weeks, the latest incidents occurred on the night of Good Friday during Holy Week. This resident claims that four people struck again in the area and that the neighbourhood experienced moments of “real panic”.
– One resident even set off fireworks in an attempt to deter the intruders, and some neighbours thought they were gunshots.
– Ruiz explains that one neighbour fired rockets to try to scare off the intruders. The problem was that some residents believed they were gunshots. The fright was immediate. So too was the tension. Once again the area filled with cars, lights and neighbours determined that no house should be left alone.
– The neighbour complains that the thieves no longer target only empty farms. They also strike when people are inside, in some cases with elderly residents present. There is a sense of impunity which, in her view, shows that the criminals have lost all fear. “I do not understand how four people can be laughing in this way at the authorities, the police and at us,” she laments.
“A climate of siege”
– The problem, the residents insist, goes far beyond a simple robbery. It has become “a climate of siege”. A routine of vigilance. A permanent state of alarm. WhatsApp groups that boil every night with warnings, camera footage and suspicions. And improvised neighbourhood patrols to cover long lanes, broken paths and isolated farms.
– In some of the videos seen by SUR the thieves damage and strike the security cameras after realising they are being recorded. In another, alarms can be heard sounding, yet the intruders still do not leave the properties, which on this occasion were empty at the time of the break-ins.
– Ruiz once again calls for specific resources for the rural area. Greater police presence. Faster response capacity. And equipment adapted to difficult terrain, where simply arriving quickly is not enough if the access roads are damaged or if houses are scattered several kilometres apart. “You cannot ask an 80-year-old person to send their location,” she says.
– The neighbours’ reaction has once again been to take action. Several cars drove through the area during the night to deter the thieves and reinforce vigilance. Yet the neighbour herself admits that “the nervousness is at its highest”. And that the fear of a direct confrontation grows with every new incident.
– The National Police attended the scene and complaints have already been filed. The mayor of Velez-Malaga, Jesus Lupianez (PP), has met with those affected and has promised to improve coordination and control in these rural settlements. But in Valle-Niza and Almayate Alto the feeling remains the same: the robberies do not stop. And the response is not arriving at the pace they demand.

GRANADA

A man was arrested for attacking three people with an axe “without saying a word” while they were walking down the street in Montefrío: {Trans.}
– The Civil Guard has arrested a 45-year-old Moroccan man in the town of Montefrío, Granada, accused of attacking three residents—two women and a man—with an axe in the street. The victims, who were apparently passing by, sustained injuries of varying severity. According to the Civil Guard and the 112 emergency services, the attack occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Fuente y Prado Street in the town.
– The victims were walking along a public road when the assailant attacked them with an axe “without saying a word,” according to Mayor Remedios Gámez. Initial reports indicate that one of the women is middle-aged and the other is around 70 years old. The municipality has clarified that the assailant does not appear to be registered as a resident there, and neighbors are baffled as to what could have motivated the attack.
– Medical personnel and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene to attend to the two women, one of whom was more seriously injured. Both were evacuated to the Trauma Hospital in Granada. Sources close to the case have detailed that the younger of the two women suffered a head injury. The other was evacuated with stab wounds to her hands, in addition to having a finger amputated. {No mention of injuries to the male victim. -Ed.}
– During his escape, the alleged assailant caused a traffic accident. The accident resulted in no injuries but damaged a car. Finally, the Civil Guard arrested him at 12:00 noon this Monday in a rural area near the town. SPAIN

The PP denounces that Sánchez has gone the entire legislature without a State of the Nation Debate despite promising it in 2024: {Trans., summary}
– Cuca Gamarra {pic}, of Spain’s People’s Party (PP), has accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of hypocrisy for failing to hold a Debate on the State of the Nation throughout the current parliamentary term, despite his annual commitment. The last such debate was in July 2022. The PP has long demanded this session and even proposed a parliamentary rule change in April 2025, which remains pending.
– Gamarra notes that in Sánchez’s eight years in power, only one debate has occurred, calling the government’s recent announcement of its mandatory nature a “mockery”. She argues Sánchez avoids the debate to hide his lack of a national project, corruption issues, a divided cabinet, and the absence of a parliamentary majority, revealing poor democratic habits.
– If the PP governs, Gamarra pledges to make the debate obligatory and ensure parliamentary motions are properly accounted for. In response, the government defends its record, asserting it rigorously submits to parliamentary control through numerous prime ministerial and ministerial appearances, questions, and other mechanisms outlined in the constitution, claiming compliance with its obligations.

The Jobs Scam– only 1.7% of workers find employment through the SEPE (Spanish Public Employment Service)– in 2025, 3.9% of jobs placed through temporary employment agencies: {Trans., summary}
– Despite government triumphalism over low unemployment claims, Spain’s labour market is deeply dysfunctional. Public employment services are failing, with only 319,700 people finding work through them in 2025, down from 543,600 in 2007. Meanwhile, temporary work agencies placed 726,100 workers, exposing the precarious reality behind official figures.
– The government’s claims distort employment numbers that reveal real unemployment is higher than admitted (see pic) and that temporary contracts and part-time/seasonal government jobs have degraded job quality while falsely inflating employment numbers. Public services now account for just 1.7% of job placements, half the 2007 level of 3.2%, while agency placements rose from 2.9% to 3.9%.
– The state is failing in its role in employment support. Celebrating low unemployment masks a grim reality of insecure work and institutional failure. The labour market is not healthy; it is propped up by precarious jobs, not by genuine stable employment creation. This failure directly contradicts official boasts of economic success. Voters should see the gap between rhetoric and reality on the ground. Migrant Mandate Expired– Madrid warns the Government that it will not accept further transfers of migrant children until
statutory authority is re-established: {Trans., summary}
– The Community of Madrid has warned the Spanish Government that it will not accept new transfers of unaccompanied migrant minors under Royal Decree-Law 2/2025. Madrid considers that the extraordinary relocation mechanism no longer has legal coverage, as the planned deadlines have expired. The regional minister, Ana Davila, conveyed this in a letter to minister Angel Victor Torres. She argued that the decree’s application has resulted in a transfer system that ignores proper coordination with child protection authorities, individual assessments of each minor, and the children’s own will and family situations. She urged the government to cease any initiative that seeks to maintain this system outside the legal framework. If not, Madrid will exercise all necessary legal actions in defence of its powers and current legality. The Community has made clear that without statutory authority or a valid legal basis for the transfers, it will refuse to participate. The Spanish Parliament will study the possible effects of the extraordinary regularisation of immigrants on national security: {Trans., summary}
– The Joint Committee on National Security has approved a Popular Party proposal to establish a parliamentary working group to study how the Government’s extraordinary migrant regularisation process may affect national and international security. The initiative passed with votes in favour from PP and VOX, while PSOE, ERC and EH Bildu voted against. The PP spokesperson rejected accusations of racism, noting that Government documents already warn of links between jihadist networks and people trafficking. PP leader Feijoo criticised the policy as contradicting the EU’s common migration strategy.
– The European Commissioner has warned that migrants regularised in Spain represent a migration threat as they cannot legally settle elsewhere in the EU, though they may move freely if they hold legal residence, and the Spanish government has no way to prevent migrants they welcome from resettling elsewhere. The Government approved the urgent regularisation of over half a million immigrants by Royal Decree in January following a PSOE-Podemos pact. PP deputy Hernando called the process illegal, reckless and a threat to national and European security, alleging that Spain has become a sieve and a paradise for trafficking mafias where criminals and terrorists can enter freely. MALAGA PROVINCE

Malaga Can’t Find New Doctors And Now Is Short Of Civil Guard Officers With 548 Unfilled Vacancies:
{Trans., summary}
– Organized crime has taken root in the province, crime is on the rise in some municipalities, drug traffickers are operating with impunity along the coast, and there are almost 550 unfilled vacancies in the Civil Guard, double the number from just a couple of years ago. This is the complaint made this Monday by the Unified Association of the Civil Guard (AUGC).
– The organization criticizes the “worsening” of the shortages because the workforce, instead of growing “as would be necessary”, has fallen by 1% in recent years, according to data from January 2024 to the same month of 2026 handled by the AUGC.
– “The most serious issue is that, while there were 273 unfilled vacancies in 2024, that number has now more than doubled, reaching a staggering 548,” the AUGC states. Based on these figures, they conclude that the province is short 22% of the required personnel. The AUGC points out that the institutions and the people of Malaga “do not seem to be aware of the gravity of the situation, with crime rates rising in some municipalities, organized crime now entrenched in our province, and drug traffickers operating with impunity along the Malaga coast.”
– The greatest shortage is in the ranks of corporals and guards. According to the AUGC (Association of Civil Guard Officers), this rank has the most unfilled vacancies: 505, to be exact. In addition, there is a shortage of 28 non-commissioned officers and 15 commissioned officers. The association points out that the basic rank is precisely the one that should have the smallest shortage, “since it primarily handles operational duties in towns, rural areas, and on highways, which are the most essential.”
– With these figures, the AUGC maintains that the province is at the bottom of the list in terms of resources: “These very negative data confirm and even worsen what the AUGC has been denouncing for some time, that Malaga is one of the provinces with the lowest rate of civil guards per number of inhabitants, without the destinations published a few weeks ago having led to an increase in the staff.”
– He emphasizes that, following the publication of these new assignments, many units in the province have even seen their staffing levels reduced. This is the case, he points out, with elite units like the USECIC and public safety posts such as those in Ronda, Alhaurín de la Torre, Manilva, Nerja, Villanueva de Algaidas, Ojén, Fuente de Piedra, Tolox, Casabermeja, Cuevas de San Marcos, and Villanueva del Trabuco.
– The association issued a statement on Monday denouncing the situation, which it considers “very worrying that Málaga has such a critical shortage of Civil Guard officers.” In the statement, it asserts that “many stations can barely open their doors to serve the public” and that the few available patrols have to “cover several towns simultaneously.”

Ex-Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson excluded from royal family’s Easter gathering amid Epstein scandal:
– The ex-royal — born Andrew Mountbatten Windsor — was photographed driving his Range Rover on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, on Sunday. His two corgis joined him for the daytime outing, and they later stepped out for a walk in an open field. Andrew, 66, bundled up in a green jacket and khaki trousers.
– Ferguson, who was married to Andrew from 1986 to 1996, didn’t join her ex. However, the duo was notably absent from Easter service with their family at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, that morning.
Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children — George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7 — were all smiles while stepping out to celebrate the holiday together. HEALTH

Science confirms it- the appendix is not a mistake, it has evolved 32 times and is key to survival: {Trans., summary}
– The appendix is commonly thought to be useless except for becoming inflamed and requiring removal. However, science has shown this view is mistaken. Although we can live without it, evolution has reinvented the appendix at least 32 times in mammals and rarely lost it, suggesting it serves an important purpose. Located near the small intestine and colon, the appendix stores a reserve of beneficial bacteria. When gut bacteria are decimated by infection, these reserves are released to recolonise the digestive system. This function would have been crucial for survival in former times when diarrhoeal diseases were a constant deadly threat.
– Additionally, the appendix contains lymphoid tissue and cells involved in mucosal immunity. Species with an appendix have higher concentrations of such tissue in the caecum. Evolution has kept the appendix despite the risk of inflammation because it acts as an insurance policy. Removal is safe, but those without an appendix may recover more slowly from digestive illness or face imbalances in gut flora. Tennis News- Spanish tennis has a new star, Rafa Jódar wins his first ATP title: {Trans., summary}
– Rafa Jódar will never forget this April 5, 2026. The young Madrid tennis player, who will turn 20 next September, has won the first ATP title of his career in Marrakech (Morocco) by beating the veteran Argentine player Marco Trungelliti (36 years old), by 6-3 and 6-2 in just one hour and eight minutes.
– The young tennis player has thus taken another step in his meteoric career, and, in his first clay-court tournament as a professional, has won the trophy, in the fifth final in history with the largest age difference between the players. The losing South American, who has also reached his first ATP final, is 229 months older than the Spaniard, who on Monday will occupy the 67th position in the ATP rankings , the best of his career.
– Jódar is the first teenager to win an ATP title this season and the second player born in 2006 or later to win a trophy on the tour, after Brazilian Joao Fonseca . He is also the tenth active player in history to win a title before turning 20. The Madrid native, who turned professional in December 2025 , earned his first Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open, won main draw matches in Dallas and Acapulco, and reached the third round at the Miami Masters 1000. Football News- Spain’s participation in the World Cup is at risk due to ongoing lawsuits in the United States: {Trans., summary}
– International creditors, affected by Spain’s retroactive cuts to renewable energy premiums, threaten to seize Spanish State assets during the Football World Cup. With seven favourable United States rulings recognising debts totalling 688.4 million euros, creditors have warned that any Spanish operation linked to the tournament will be monitored and is liable to seizure. Almost all of Spain’s matches will be played on American soil, increasing the risk.
– Formal discovery orders and subpoenas have been issued against private entities serving Spain, as well as public bodies, to identify contractual relationships, bank accounts and payment flows. The Sanchez administration is criticised for its handling of these defaulted awards, having failed to settle or block enforcement actions. Creditors confirm they are watching Spain’s World Cup participation closely, including any involvement by companies connected to the team. The aim is to compensate companies still suffering losses from Spain’s persistent non-compliance with arbitral awards recognised by United States courts. New generation malware designed to infect & continue stealing information– “continuous credential harvesting”– Venom Stealer, the infostealer that takes credential theft to a new level: {Trans.}
– Infostealers (malware specifically designed to steal sensitive information) have become one of the most dangerous and concerning cybersecurity threats according to various analyses published in recent months.
– A new threat actor called Venom Stealer has emerged, showcasing the rapid evolution of these tools. While traditional infostealers typically “arrive, take data, and leave,” this tool is designed to stay and continue stealing information continuously. Thus, instead of merely extracting data found at the moment of infection, the malware maintains a background process that monitors and captures new details as they are saved or used on the affected device. This is known as “continuous credential harvesting” or “persistent credential harvesting.”
– Venom Stealer is distributed via fake websites that imitate legitimate tools, fraudulent security alerts, fake CAPTCHA popups, or phishing campaigns that trick users into executing a malicious file. Once executed, the malware will scans browsers (such as Chrome or Firefox) and extracts data like saved passwords, login cookies, browsing history, autofill data, and cryptocurrency wallet vaults from each profile. “Chrome’s password encryption v10 and v20 is bypassed through a silent privilege escalation that leaves no forensic traces,” the researchers report.
– To make matters worse, this infostealer can evade the operating system’s own protection mechanisms, accessing encrypted keys without activating the usual security alerts.
– The tool is distributed as a malware kit and service (Malware-as-a-Service) for anyone wishing to use it. It is not sold outright but is offered under license via Telegram for $250 per month or $1,800 for lifetime use. This also includes updates. Although Venom is targeted at Windows, it is operated via an internet domain and can be purchased and used by both Windows and macOS systems, according to SecurityWeek.
{Detection is possible with the right tools and skills. In come cases, if caught early, repairs are possible; well established infections will require a clean reinstall of the operating system. All accounts accessed by the infected device will need to have their passwords updated from a known-clean device. -Ed.}

Microsoft will force-update PCs to Windows 11 25H2. You can’t opt out:
– Support for version 24H2 of Windows 11 is officially slated to end on October 13th, but it’s already clear that some users will soon be prompted to make a mandatory update to version 25H2. While this move is controversial, the supposed aim is to ensure that users continue to have access to the latest security patches.
– As a user, no action is required from you—you’ll be forcibly moved up to Windows 11 25H2 when Microsoft thinks your time has arrived. The update may take some time to complete, do not force a shutdown or disconnect the power until it finishes, even if it takes several hours.

It’s time for Artemis II to break Apollo 13’s distance record. What to know about the moon flyby:
– The Artemis II astronauts are already the champions of a fresh new era of lunar exploration. Now it’s time to set a new distance record. Launched last week on humanity’s first trip to the moon since 1972, the three Americans and one Canadian are chasing after Apollo 13’s maximum range from Earth. That will make them our planet’s farthest emissaries as they swing around the moon without stopping on Monday and then hightail it back home.
– Their roughly six-hour lunar flyby promises views of the moon’s far side that were too dark or too difficult to see by the 24 Apollo astronauts who preceded them. A total solar eclipse also awaits them as the moon blocks the sun, exposing snippets of shimmering corona. Full article:

– The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the cessation of marketing and withdrawal from the market of the food supplement Bichota, after detecting that it contains an undeclared pharmaceutical substance. The alert was issued by the Consumer Group of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit of the General Police Headquarters.
– According to analyses conducted by the Official Drug Control Laboratory (LOCM) , the product contains sildenafil in sufficient quantity to exert a pharmacological effect, thus classifying it as a medicine. However, this substance is not listed on the label, which presents the product as natural, concealing its true composition from the consumer .
– Sildenafil is indicated for treating erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow, but its use is contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular diseases , such as acute myocardial infarction, angina, heart failure, arrhythmias or uncontrolled hypertension, as well as in people with severe hepatic impairment or certain eye disorders.
– Authorities warn that consuming this product can cause serious health problems due to multiple interactions with other medications and potential adverse reactions. These include cardiovascular issues such as heart attacks, arrhythmias, tachycardia, strokes, and even sudden cardiac death, especially in people with pre-existing risk factors. FINANCIAL

Banks are making mortgages more expensive, and the average interest rate is hitting a ten-month high: {Trans., summary}
– Banks have warned that mortgages will cost more this year, with February data showing new loans at an average rate of 2.75%, the highest since April 2025. Lenders are ending their price war to boost margins, moving away from “irrational competition”. The euribor rate has also risen, closing March at 2.56% due to the European Central Bank’s 2% floor and geopolitical tensions involving Iran. Despite higher costs, demand has not fallen, though growth has moderated; new credit approvals rose just 2.1% compared to 22% a year earlier. Outstanding mortgages now approach 520,000 million euros. Experts predict a more strained and inaccessible market in 2026, with population growth keeping house prices high and banks preparing for further tightening. The Bank of Spain notes a slight tightening of mortgage supply and is considering imposing lending limits, a step urged by the International Monetary Fund to prevent a property bubble, as Spain remains one of the few European countries without such measures. ANDALUCÍA

Invasive wasps expanding their presence in Andalusia and are already worrying experts: {Trans, summary}
– A study from the Doñana Biological Station warns of invasive wasps expanding in Andalusia, especially in urban and coastal areas. Four non-native Vespa species exist on the Iberian Peninsula. The Asian wasp (Vespa velutina) is most widespread, first found in France in 2005. The oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) arrived in Valencia in 2013. The bicoloured hornet (Vespa bicolor) was identified in Malaga that same year. Vespa soror has appeared occasionally in Asturias without stable settlement. The oriental hornet has spread significantly in Andalusia, increasing in Cadiz, Malaga, Almeria, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva and Seville, plus an isolated record in Toledo. The bicoloured hornet has multiplied from 9 to 48 records, mainly in Malaga and recently Granada. Both species threaten native pollinators by hunting them to feed their young, which may reduce biodiversity, plant regeneration and agricultural production. They also attack hives, harming honey production and fruit crops. Stings pose a limited health risk. NERJA

Two young men arrested in Nerja after throwing butane canisters at the local police from 3rd floor flat: {Trans., summary}
– Two young people in their 20s have been arrested on Holy Thursday after throwing two butane bottles and numerous objects from a third floor against local police officers, in an event that forced the police to cordon off an area next to the brotherhood houses of the Nazarene and the Resurrected, in Puente Viejo Street.
– The events occurred around 11.30 a.m., when a patrol crossed in the area of La Ermita with the two individuals, who apparently returned from spending the night of partying. According to sources close to the investigation, the two young people began to rebuke and provoke the agents, who decided to follow them. One of them has Spanish nationality with no origin mentioned and the other of South American origin and both are residents of Nerja.
– The situation worsened minutes later, when those involved accessed a house on the aforementioned Puente Viejo street and, far from deposing their behavior, began to throw objects from the windows, generating a serious risk for the agents and pedestrians. Among the items launched were two butane bottles, pieces of a motorcycle, ceramic slabs, bricks, chairs, woods and even a large metal structure, which were scattered on the public road. EUROPE

German men between the ages of 17 and 45 will need to request permission from the Army to leave the country for more than three months: {Trans., summary}
– “According to the text of the law, men aged 17 and over are now required to apply in advance for authorization from the Armed Forces career center for stays abroad lasting more than three months,” a spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense explained to the DPA news agency. “We will clarify through administrative provisions that the authorization will always be considered as granted as long as military service is voluntary,” he added. The so-called Military Service Modernization Act came into effect on January 1.
– Compulsory military service was suspended in Germany in 2011 after 55 years in force, but the new legislation, agreed by the coalition of conservatives and social democrats led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, promotes a model of voluntary military service, although it contemplates compulsory military service to fill quotas if voluntary enlistment does not reach the set objectives. GASTRONOMIA

Dutch Treat- Fresh Stroopwafels at two Malaga locations: {Trans, summary}
– Stroopwafels, thin crisp biscuits filled with caramel and typical of Dutch confectionery, can now be enjoyed in Malaga city centre without travelling to Holland. Two establishments have opened within metres of each other and at practically the same time.
– El Wafelito, run by Mike van Laarhoven and Vanesa Alvarez, is located in an emblematic kiosk on the corner of Alameda Principal and Calle Pastora, next to the Casa de Guardia. They make wafels to order in several sizes from 4 euros, with chocolate topping if desired, and also sell packets of eight biscuits. They also offer wafel crumbs made from leftover dough edges.
– Almost simultaneously, Loes Bonvanie has opened Bon Bueno on Calle San Juan. In this small shop she makes stroopwafels by hand to order, alongside ice cream. Her stroopwafels come in various sizes with toppings such as pistachio, Lotus Biscoff spread or turron, from 3 euros for the smallest. Both establishments bring authentic Dutch recipes to Malaga.

SPAIN

Ooops, we lied again– Robles admits that the US military bases in Rota and Morón are still in operation but with the “limitation” of not “favouring” the war: {Trans., summary, explainer}
– Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles {pic, with a clashing, butt-ugly handbag} told Congress that the Rota and Morón military bases remain operational despite the government’s ban on the US using them for the Iran war. The admission followed recent US aircraft movements at the bases, which raised doubts about the restrictions.
– Robles stated the bases operate under the “exclusive limitation” of not supporting or favoring the war in Iran. She defended the government’s rejection of what she called a “unilaterally initiated” war contrary to international law, noting that flight authorizations are denied for aircraft headed “directly” to the conflict zone. Robles recalled that the bases at Rota and Morón remain operational, but “with limitations precisely to prevent them from being used in actions that favour a military escalation”.
– Opposition parties criticized the stance. The PP noted the restriction does not apply to aircraft that reach the war via intermediate stops. Bildu pointed to the paradox of a US destroyer based in Rota engaging Iranian missiles with Spanish support of 150 troops, which Robles defended as the “collective defense” of Turkey. {That’s not a war activity? -Ed.}
– Robles insisted the restrictions do not rupture the transatlantic alliance and reaffirmed Spain’s NATO commitment. She compared the conflict to Russia’s war in Ukraine, rejecting US and Israeli authority to decide global rules unilaterally. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/nacional/robles-admite-que-las-bases-rota-moron-siguen-funcionamiento-pero-con-limitacion-no-favorecer-guerra_6952997_0.html Additional ref: https://www.mundoamerica.com/news/2026/03/23/69c14a45fc6c83c8768b4586.html
{DigameXtra Explainer: The government’s position relies on semantic loopholes that create the appearance of non-participation when that is not the case. The central deception is the distinction between aircraft going “directly” to the war versus those making intermediate stops, a distinction without functional difference, as both ultimately support the same military operations. Robles further employs doublespeak in claiming the bases remain “fully operational” under an “exclusive limitation” against supporting the war, even though their continued use as supply and staging points for US forces inherently constitutes support. Additionally, she reframes acts of military engagement, such as a US destroyer intercepting Iranian missiles with Spanish support, under the umbrella of “collective defense,” thereby exempting them from her own prohibition. This pattern of carefully parsed language allows the government to claim a principled stance while the underlying strategic cooperation continues unchanged.}

Italy & France play the same word games– We’re blocking the US military flights, but not really: {Trans., summary, explainer}
– Several NATO members claim they are refusing cooperation with United States military operations amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran. France has ‘denied overflight authorisation’ for American aircraft bound for Israel and carrying military equipment. Italy has ‘closed its airspace’ and denied an US military aircraft access to the Sigonella airbase– with officials citing insufficient advance notification under NATO protocols. Former president Donald Trump has criticised these allies for their lack of support, particularly urging European members to take greater responsibility for their own security. He has also warned that the United States will not continue to defend European nations that refuse cooperation when American forces require access. Italian authorities have defended their position by stating they are acting in ‘full compliance with international agreements’. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/internacional/francia-italia-coinciden-con-espana-limitan-eeuu-sus-bases-espacios-aereos-mientras-trump-vuelve-atacar-los-aliados_6953094_0.html
– {Explainer: More wordplay to avoid the truth.
* France. Announced a prohibition on overflights for US aircraft bound for Israel. However, as with the Spanish case, such restrictions typically apply only to flights declared as “directly” destined for the conflict zone. Aircraft making intermediate stops or operating under alternative designations continue to use French airspace and facilities.
* Italy: Claims to have ‘closed its airspace’, when it actually only denied a specific single landing at Sigonella, citing a technicality, for lack of timely notification. Italy still functions as an important US military hub, with growing activity reported as of 31 March, not less! Ref: https://www.ansa.it/sito/notizie/cronaca/2026/03/31/la-scheda-droni-e-tanker-cresce-lattivita-a-sigonella-per-la-guerra_78bab118-536a-4428-8f54-83032b968ed8.html }

Trump and Rubio comment on the uncooperative NATO members: {Trans., summary}
– US Secratary of State Marco Rubio questioned the function of NATO if the United States cannot use the bases “when it needs to”. “But if NATO only serves for us to defend Europe if they are attacked while they deny us access to their bases when we need them… that is not a very good deal,” he argued.
– Trump again issued threats to NATO as a whole. “They will have to start learning to defend themselves; the United States will no longer be there to help them, just as you were not there for us,” said Trump, who stressed that Iran “has been decimated” following the offensive by the United States and Israel, so “the difficult part is already done” and now these countries should go “and get their own oil”.

Propagnda- Common headline today:
Positive financial forecast as Spain opens 2026 with a current account surplus of €2.7 billion: {DigameXtra explainer}
– This is just propaganda from a gov’t press release desperate to put lipstick on a pig. I won’t waste the space to reproduce the phoney article. Here is the bottom line: The claim that Spain (currently with €1.7 trillion in debt) opens 2026 with a current ‘account surplus’ is presented as meaningful, positive economic news, but it is borderline fake news, a non-sequitur. Government debt is what the state owes; the current ‘account surplus’ measures trade and investment flows across both the public and private sectors– it is not government revenue, does not reduce the debt, and does not represent fiscal health.
– Spain currently ranks 5th in the EU for having the worst debt-to-GDP ratio (103.2%), with Greece at leading the losers at 147%, followed by Italy (137%), France (118%), and Belgium (107%). The EU’s Maastricht Treaty stipulates that member states should aim for a debt-to-GDP ratio below 60%, a target from which Spain remains significantly distant.

ANDALUCÍA

Health warns about viral gastroenteritis in Andalucia: {Trans., summary}
– Andalucia’s Health Ministry has issued a preventive alert urging measures against viral gastroenteritis following the presence of cases in the region. The infection spreads primarily through direct contact with infected individuals, though contaminated surfaces and food can also transmit it.
– Symptoms include sudden nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Most cases resolve within days, but children, the elderly and those with existing conditions face greater risk. Authorities recommend frequent handwashing with soap and water, disinfecting surfaces with diluted bleach, and avoiding food preparation if symptomatic. Hydration through water, broths or oral rehydration solutions is essential, while alcoholic and sugary drinks should be avoided. Light meals and rest aid recovery. No specific treatment or vaccine exists. Medical attention is required if diarrhoea lasts more than three days, vomiting prevents fluid retention, blood appears in stools, or dehydration signs such as dry mouth, dizziness or reduced urination occur. Hey Teacher, Leave Them Kids Toddlers Alone! – Andalusia opens the school enrollment process for children aged zero to three years on April 1st, with more than 127,500 places available: {Trans., summary}
– The Andalusian Regional Government has opened enrolment for Early Childhood Education, offering 127,560 places for children aged zero to three. The first application phase runs from 1 April to 30 April, with enrolment beginning on 1 June. An extraordinary admissions process starts on 1 July and continues throughout the academic year, allowing parents to enrol children at any time. The number of places has increased by 1,636 despite falling birth rates.
– The Regional Government expects enrolment, already at 58 per cent, to rise due to expanded free provision. Free provision for two-year-olds was introduced last year and will extend to one-year-olds from September, with further expansion planned. Families will save an estimated 240.53 euros per month on socio-educational care, totalling 2,645.83 euros over the 11-month academic year. Additional fee reductions apply for zero-year-olds and supplementary-fee services such as catering, and morning/afternoon classroom care, with discounts available for low-income families and other eligible groups.

Illicit Fentanyl Makes Its Way Into Spain: {Trans., summary}
– A prisoner has died at Huelva provincial prison after collapsing during the afternoon door opening. The CSIF union attributes the death to a new drug threat now making its way into the prison system. It is presented in “blotter” format, known as ‘papelitos’ (little papers), typically containing fentanyl, which is entering prisons almost undetectably. Any paper, most commonly letters and book pages, can appear safe yet may contain the drugs.
– The union states that scarce medical resources at the prison make emergency treatment difficult because the drug’s exact composition varies from batch to batch. It criticises prison authorities for failing to implement adequate detection and seizure measures, warning of risks to both inmates and staff. Prison authorities are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death. MALAGA PROVINCE

Guess the jailhouse is full– Jewelry thieves who pretended to be luxury customers busted, ‘nation-wide travelling’ repeat offenders, allowed out on bail: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police have arrested three people suspected of committing several thefts at jewelry stores in various Spanish provinces, including Málaga. The arrested individuals were part of a traveling criminal group specializing in stealing jewelry using the “snatch-and-grab” method.
– The investigation into what was dubbed ‘Operation IOCUS’ began last August after the group’s presence was detected in Zaragoza. Following their inquiries, agents were able to identify the alleged perpetrators and link them to various crimes committed in different parts of the country. The suspects acted in an organized and coordinated manner, with a division of roles among the different members of the group. Their itinerant nature allowed them to travel through various provinces—such as Zaragoza, Vizcaya, Málaga, Toledo, and Alicante—where they committed the crimes, accumulating a total of eight solved cases so far, with profits exceeding 50,000 euros.
– The modus operandi consisted of entering establishments, mainly jewelry stores, where they would ask employees to show them different pieces. To gain the employees’ trust, they would ostentatiously display a wad of banknotes, simulating high economic status. Taking advantage of moments of distraction, they would skillfully steal as many pieces of jewelry as possible, leaving the premises quickly to avoid being detected.
– Once identified, a police operation was launched, culminating in their location and arrest in the Alicante town of Torrevieja. Other members of the criminal organization who collaborated in the criminal activity were also identified.
– The detainees, who have a high rate of repeat offenses, were brought before a judge as the alleged perpetrators of eight counts of theft and membership in a criminal organization. They were released on bail after giving their statements {Yikes!}. The National Police continue their investigation to fully clarify the facts and do not rule out further arrests. {Trans., summary}
– Police in Fuengirola and Mijas have arrested a 38-year-old man for four armed robberies at two hotels, a bar and a fast food restaurant. He used a machete in three attacks and a firearm in another, stealing a total of 3,000 euros. An accomplice, who helped him escape by motorcycle, was also detained.
– The first robbery occurred on 19 March at a hotel reception, where the suspect threatened an employee with a large machete and took 2,000 euros. Three days later, he robbed another hotel using a gun, taking 1,000 euros. On 24 March he attempted to rob a bar utilizing a machete, but workers refused his demands, he then struck a fast food restaurant with a machete shortly afterwards {Can’t be sure if the March 22nd assault is the same failed machete supported theft covered in a previous DigameXtra article, but it sounds like it.}.
– Police set up an extensive operation involving uniformed patrols and the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit. The main suspect was caught hiding in the Los Limones neighbourhood after fleeing his final assault. Both suspects appeared before a judge, who ordered the primary offender to be held in pre-trial detention, but released the getaway driver. – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has threatened attacks against nearly twenty major US technology companies, including Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, Boeing and Tesla, marking one month since the US and Israeli offensive on Iran began. The IRGC claims these firms are involved in “terrorist operations” and have ignored warnings. Eighteen additional companies, including Cisco, Intel, Nvidia and J.P. Morgan, are also named as legitimate targets. The Guard advised employees and nearby residents to evacuate workplaces and vacate areas within a one-kilometre radius. ENERGY CRISIS

Brussels urges cuts in energy demand and warns that there will be no return to normality in the short term: {Trans., summary}
– The European Commission on Tuesday urged member states to reduce energy demand, especially for petroleum products, and warned that the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on energy markets will be prolonged, with no return to normality expected in the short term, even though there are currently no immediate supply problems in the EU.
– “Even if peace were to arrive tomorrow, we would not return to normal in the foreseeable future,” warned Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen {pic} at a press conference following the informal meeting of energy ministers, stressing that even in that scenario, “there would still be consequences,” since the region’s energy infrastructure “has been damaged by the war and continues to deteriorate.” Thus, he warned that “we must not deceive ourselves into thinking that the consequences of this crisis will be short-lived,” while insisting on the need to act “with unity” and “in close coordination” to avoid “fragmented national responses” that could further distort the market.
– Although the ministers agree that security of supply remains “relatively protected,” thanks to the diversification of suppliers and less dependence on the Gulf, the commissioner has warned that “tensions persist in certain product markets,” particularly in diesel and aviation fuel, as well as “increasing restrictions in global gas markets” that are impacting electricity prices. THE REST OF THE STORY

While male violence against women gets all the headlines in the feminist supporting progressive mainstream media, it cuts both ways, with female violence usually against the most vulnerable, children & seniors, as demonstrated in the following 2 articles. And before you send in the hatemail, I am not excusing the male violence, I’m just saying men don’t have an exclusive on it.

A woman has been sentenced to 40 years of psychiatric confinement for strangling her son and setting him on fire in Granada: {Trans., summary}
– The Provincial Court of Granada has sentenced a woman to 40 years of confinement in a psychiatric prison after her six-year-old son was found dead in a house fire in the La Chana neighborhood in May 2023. The cause of death was not initially known, but the woman has since admitted to the court that she suffocated the child while he slept. She then placed him on a living room sofa, doused him with gasoline, and set him on fire.
– The convicted woman said the crime occurred ten days before their scheduled eviction for non-payment of rent, according to the court ruling. The trial had been set for early April, but the parties reached an agreement that avoided a jury trial.
– The woman will not be allowed to leave the facility without the express authorization of the sentencing court. Furthermore, the defendant must pay €180,000 in compensation to the father for the death of their son {She couldn’t pay rent, how will she pay any fines? -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/andalucia/granada/condenan-una-mujer-40-anos-internamiento-psiquiatrico-por-estrangular-su-hijo-prenderle-fuego-granada_6953102_0.html

The Echo of a Passion– Granada Becomes Prayer:
– It’s not just a city; it’s a feeling that overflows down the Cuesta del Chapiz and falls silent on the Carrera del Darro. Granada doesn’t process, Granada surrenders. It’s the creaking of wood under the weight of love, the lament of a saeta that pierces the air of the Albaicín, and the glow of bonfires that illuminate the path of Consuelo towards the Abbey. From the ancestral rite of Sacromonte to the Renaissance elegance of its squares, every step is a story of faith written with wax and gold. If you close your eyes, you can still hear the rustling of the porters and the aroma of incense that remains tattooed on your soul. Come and experience Holy Week where the earth touches the sky.
