La Noche en Blanco- Malaga 2026:
Malaga will once again become a great cultural stage on the night of May 16 to 17, the eve of the regional elections, on the occasion of the XVII edition of the Night in White, an appointment that will gather about 150 proposals in 98 spaces spread throughout the city under the slogan ‘Málaga, the future is written with music’. Sevilla’s Iconica Fest aims to become the biggest music event in Spain: {Trans.}
– The Iconica Santalucía Sevilla Fest has once again confirmed its position as one of the country’s major cultural and musical events. – The summer seems to have arrived early in Malaga. High temperatures are already filling the beaches on the Costa del Sol and bringing maximums of nearly 30 degrees in places such as Manilva, where 28.3 degrees Celsius were recorded at 11.10 hours, making it the fifth highest temperature in Spain this Wednesday.
– The thermometers are giving no respite. At 10.00 on this Thursday, the stations in Torremolinos and Nerja were already recording the second and fourth highest temperatures in the country, with 22.9 degrees Celsius and 22.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

Construction in Malaga strengthens growth in the first quarter with a 37% increase in approved housing, mostly in the west of the province: {Trans., summary}

It’s a disgrace– River Chíllar in Nerja, one of the most visited natural sites in Malaga province, is set to remain closed for a fourth consecutive summer:
– The popular river walk was closed in August 2023 due to overcrowding and fire risk. Southern Spain’s largest unmanned aviation air show arrives in Vélez-Málaga: Friday 17 to Sunday 19 April

– On Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m., the main day of the festival will take place. IMMIGRATION IN SPAIN

The Supreme Court rules out immediately suspending the mass regularization of immigrants, gives gov’t 10 days to respond: {Trans., summary}
– The Supreme Court has rejected an urgent suspension of the decree authorising the extraordinary regularisation of immigrants. The Administrative Litigation Chamber found no special urgency and dismissed the request from the Association for Reconciliation and Historical Truth. The group had sought to halt the measure immediately without first hearing the Government’s arguments through the State Attorney’s Office.
– The Chamber will now process the suspension request under the ordinary procedure, opening a ten-day period for submissions.
– The association argued that urgent suspension was needed because the decree would enter into force immediately, triggering rapid administrative processing and massive cumulative legal effects, including a large volume of applications for individual residence and work permits.
– However, the Supreme Court ruled that urgency cannot simply arise from a rule’s entry into force the day after publication. {The judges totally ignored the most important arguement in favor of a halt– the administrative processing reason for immediate stoppage. The problems with processing and lack of staff are well documented; they are not prepared to process the up to 10,000 or more daily applications that are expected. Not to mention all the wasted time for applicants, and wasted time & wages for processing agents, if the Immigration Decree is successfully challenged. -Ed.}
– The Court stressed that a prior hearing of the defendant is essential to assess whether a precautionary measure is justified. The existence of established procedures and deadlines in the decree means there is no risk of irreversible situations if the case follows normal proceedings.A similar precautionary request from the group Hazte Oir will also be handled in the ordinary way, with both sides given the opportunity to present arguments.

The Supreme Court gives the Government a “non-extendable” deadline of 20 days to submit the file on the regularization of immigrants: {Trans., summary}
– The Supreme Court has admitted Hazte Oir’s appeal against the decree for mass regularisation of immigrants. It has ordered the Ministry of Justice to provide the full administrative file within twenty days. The fifth section of the Administrative Litigation Chamber has opened a separate file and appointed magistrate Jose Luis Quesada as rapporteur.
– Hazte Oir requests immediate precautionary suspension of the decree, arguing that its application would create consolidated rights such as residence and work permits, Social Security registration, access to benefits, and suspension of expulsion orders. These effects, it claims, would be very difficult or impossible to reverse even if the appeal succeeds, causing irreparable harm to public finances and legal certainty.
– The association warns that the measure structurally changes migration policy, overloading public services and affecting the labour market, welfare system, municipal register and future electoral roll. It also challenges the decree on grounds of manifest incompetence, as it regulates core aspects of foreigners legal status by regulation rather than by the organic law required by the Constitution. – The city of Malaga has been designated by the European Community of New Gastronomy (ECNG) as European Capital of Gastronomic Culture 2026.
– The announcement was made by the organisation in Gdansk, Poland, during the fifth European Gastronomy Congress, held under the motto ‘Memory and Future’. It formed part of the New Trends in Tourism 2026/2027 conference, which took place at the European Solidarity Centre on 16 and 17 April. Hospital Waiting Lists Update: {Trans., summary}

The average waiting time stood at 121 days, five days fewer than a year earlier but three days more than six months previously. Some 21.6 percent had waited over six months.
– Andalusia led with 199,950 patients, followed by Catalonia (197,768, with 32 percent waiting more than six months) and Madrid (80,525).
– Average waits varied: 173 days in Andalusia, 142 in Catalonia and 50 in Madrid. The shortest waits were in dermatology (64 days), cardiac surgery and ophthalmology (both 77 days), while plastic surgery had the longest at 269 days. Among common procedures, 124,195 awaited cataract surgery (68 days average), with other waits including hip prostheses (98 days), inguinal hernia (103 days) and arthroscopy (125 days).

Buzzkill ‘Rocky Horror’ proves Broadway has totally lost the plot:
– They’re coming for the “Time Warp” — but getting a scolding. Audiences for the Broadway revival of “The Rocky Horror Show” are being confronted with buzzkilling warnings against shouting out the hilarious call-backs and tossing around the iconic props that are the main reasons for the rollicking musical’s enduring popularity.
– No more throwing toast when the actors raise their glasses to propose one. Tossing rice during the wedding scene is verboten. Forget jumping to the left and stepping to the right. Dancing the “Time Warp” in the aisles is in the rear-view. Better leave your Riff Raff and Magenta costumes at home. No more fun.
– Self-serious management at Studio 54, where the show is being staged, are bleeding the joy out of a theater experience that energized legions of misfits, freaks and suburban wannabes.
– All of us flocked to midnight screenings of the movie spinoff, as well as to live theater productions from here to London, to indulge in a subversive taste of raunch and rock ‘n’ roll. I, for one, grew up subwaying it from Queens to Greenwich Village or the Upper West Side armed with the trinkets and memorizing the shout-out lines that made “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” a touchstone of my generation and the ones to follow. On a visit to London, I was pleased to see the tradition had spread from New York City back to a live-action theater across the pond, where it all began.
