Condolences: Many of you have heard the heartbreaking news that my dear friend Linda Barlow died on Thursday after a short battle with cancer…. Johnny Q and Linda have been in Torrox for many years and many will remember them both from their bar Johnny Q’s which they retired from last year…. Johnny is heartbroken as is so many who knew and loved her…. both Linda and Johnny’s passion is music so Johnny feels the most fitting way to celebrate Linda’s life and mourn her sudden passing is to hold a memorial evening. This will be held at Bea’s postamt in Torrox Costa on Tuesday 17th April from 8pm… if any musicians who have played with Johnny over the years would like to come and support Johnny music starts at 9pm.. anyone who would like come and pay their respects to a very special lady are very welcome…let’s give Linda a send off she deserves… the next few months will be very long and tough for Johnny but with the support of his friends I know he will get through it…. also for anybody would like to make a donation to help ease the strain for Johnny through this very tough time there will be a donation box on the night….thank you for your support regards. What’s On

Red Cross: As part of its programme of social inclusion, the Red Cross (Cruz Roja) in La Axarquia is organising a cultural/social event for English-speakers on 3 May 2018 comprising a guided walking tour to see some of the decorated ‘cruces de mayo’ in Vélez-Málaga and the details are on the attached poster.

Please note: This event is for people over 50. It is a walking tour of cerca 2 hours and so participants will need to be reasonably fit and have comfortable footwear. There is a charge of 6 euros which includes the English-speaking guide and a drink and tapa. This event is in addition to the guided tourist train trips and those people already on the waiting list for the next train trip will be contacted as soon as dates are finalised. Recommendations:

Health Care: I recently had a fall and cut my forehead. As a result, I had to visit the Health Centre in Torrox Pueblo to have it stitched. The attention I received there was phenomenal ! The reception staff, nursing care, cleanliness and the efficiency of everyone. Appointments were made for me to return on a daily basis to check the wound, to change the dressings and also to register me with the doctor who checked me out to make sure there was no concussion or complications. Is there anybody out there who would be willing to man the CAS book stall at Trapiche market, held on a Tuesday from 9.30 until 1.30. The money we raise on this stall is much needed to help us help sick and abandoned animals in Nerja. Certified Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Course (EFAW) in Nerja on the 26th April at the Bar La Raqueta in conjunction with Stockwood Consulting. It is a one day course and the cost will be €95 and includes a certificate that is valid for 3 years. All apparatus and consumables are provided. Ideal if you live in a remote location or need a first aid qualification for work. Most work locations such as bars, gyms, care worker companies, sport clubs, shops etc it is now mandatory in Spain and audits are taking place in Andalusia.Time: 10am to 5pm. It covers life saving skills including CPR, choking and bleeding and use of an AED (defibrillator) – practical, hands on skills training.This is a one day first aid course aimed at lower risk environments and enabling first aiders to provide assistance to those who are ill or injured at work. It is also ideal if you want to know what to do in an emergency – especially if you live in an isolated area. This course could help you save a life. Thursday April 12th – Coach Excursion to Puente Genil. Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite you to join friends on a coach excursion to Puente Genil a picturesque town situated in the province of Cordoba, in Andalusia. The name derives from the bridge (Puente) over the river Genil and is well preserved, built on the riverbanks; it has some beautiful noble homes, as well as traditional dwellings. It is a large agricultural centre in the province of Cordoba, producing wine, olive oil, linen and jams. It is also well known for its Semana Santa (Holy Week) celebrations. After leaving Torre del Mar you will stop on route for coffee, arriving in Puente Genil at approximately 10.00am. On arrival there will be a guided tour in English of the town, including the quince factory, the old town, the first electricity works in Andalucía (La Alianza), the Sanctuary of the Conception, the Church of the Assumption and the collection of museums situated in the old convent. As many of you know, our beloved Editor Jane has had some health issues recently. I am sorry to announce she has retired from this position so she can focus on her recovery. Please join me in wishing her a speedy recovery.

Brian, Jane’s husband, informed me that after some consideration it was decided that due to my previous experience in building and providing tech support for DigameXtra I was the candidate most qualified to take on the project.
