Rincón de la Victoria celebrates its first Ruta de la Cuchara (Route of the Spoon), includes 24 restaurants: February 18 to 28 {Translation}
-The Ruta de la Cuchara will feature a selection of dishes ranging from the most traditional Malaga cuisine to new versions of traditional dishes, Asian fusions and international dishes. Aubergines with roasted pumpkin and meatball of its pringá, vegetarian fabes with boletus and seasonal mushrooms, pintarroja broth with clams, beluga lentils with Iberian jamon, mushrooms and foie, ajiaco criollo, gazpachuelo, Thai soup or red garlic soup are just some of the dishes that can be ordered during the 11 days of the route. Customers will be able to enjoy their sample dish with a drink (beer, soft drink or water) at a price of 3 euros.
-In addition, visitors will have a route book with all the information about the route. To take part in the prize draw, visitors will have to visit four restaurants in two towns and vote for their favourite restaurant.
The winning dishes and establishments will be announced on 11 March at an event where the three prizes of 300 euros will be drawn.

El Puente Christian Fellowship is a loving, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ, who meet each Sunday at 11 am to worship The Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by one of the Elders or a visiting speaker.

The Anglican Chaplaincy of Nerja & Almunecar holds a midday (12 noon) Eucharist service at San Miguel church in Nerja every Sunday. San Miguel is to be found in Plaza Andalucia. See on Google Maps Note: while the building work on the main church roof is undertaken, please use the door on Calle San Francisco – at the back of the church buildings – to access our Sunday services.
Iglesia de San Miguel (St Michael’s Church) is within easy walking distance of Nerja Bus Station. Free parking on the streets is available close to Plaza Andalucia or off street in the Dustbowl car park.
A midweek Eucharist service is held by Zoom each Wednesday at 9.30 am and a simple service of Compline also takes place by Zoom on Thursdays at 6pm.

-The Covid rate is rising again in the province of Malaga, there are almost 1,800 more infected people, four more deaths have been reported with the virus and once again the number of newly infected people exceeds the number of cured people.
-The increase from 501.1 positives per 100,000 inhabitants on Wednesday to 526.1 on Thursday breaks the downward trend that has been uninterrupted since 21 January. It also breaks in the city of Malaga – which between the two days rises from 520.6 to 550.6 – and in Andalusia – where it rises from 592.9 to 618.1.
-In line with the increase in incidence, there has been a rise in the number of new infections. There are 1,799 positives reported in the last few hours, the highest daily figure in the last three weeks.
-Another negative aspect of the epidemiological situation is that the number of new infections – 1,799 – is once again higher than the number of cured cases – 1,481. During the last two weeks the situation was the other way around: there were more discharges than new positives.
-According to information from the Consejería de Salud y Familias, the pressure for care is down. Spanish police warn of increase in scams on popular car-sharing app:
-The Cybercrime Department detected a notable increase in the number of scams targeted at users of a well-known mobile application that connects drivers with passengers for car-sharing allowing them to share the costs.
-The scam involves the victim (the passenger) being persuaded by the scammer (the driver) to continue the conversation outside the mobile application, usually via WhatsApp. The scammer claims that certain fees can be saved by making the payment outside of the app, or that the platform is not working properly.
-Once the victim has come to an agreement with the “driver” about the trip, the scammer provides the passenger with a link to a web page that impersonates the original platform, where the victim will be asked to make payment pay for the journey. This allows the scammer to get hold of the victim’s bank card details and immediately make online purchases on foreign websites. Malaga no longer kills dogs- its animal health center, one of the first in Spain to achieve zero culling: {Translation} 10/02/2022 20:00h
-Abandoned pets are no longer killed in Malaga. The municipal animal health centre was one of the first in Spain to achieve ‘zero culling’. From the almost 2,000 animals that the Town Hall slaughtered in 2011, last year it went down to 33, and this was for strictly sanitary reasons.
-This is a 98% reduction compared to the figures of a decade ago, when practically all the animals received by the municipal kennels were euthanised.
-According to the City Council, a total of 993 animals, 544 dogs and 449 cats, were admitted to the zoosanitary centre last year. The campaigns to encourage adoption are having an effect. A total of 797 pets found homes, an increase of 11% on the previous year.
-As a result, only 14 dogs and 19 cats had to be euthanised, all of them for health reasons, as confirmed by the municipal veterinarians.
-The so-called ‘zero culling’ is one of the objectives that has been included in the government programme in recent mandates in terms of animal welfare and protection and is also part of the co-government agreement with the Ciudadanos group.
-But there has also been a drastic decrease in the number of admissions to the Consistory’s animal centre. There were 310 in 2021 compared to 1,594 in 2011. The City Council attributes this to the increase in public awareness of responsible pet ownership.
-There has also been a notable reduction in the number of cats collected by municipal services on the public highway. There were 299 in 2021 compared to 1,020 in 2011, 71% less, which is justified by the “success” of the programme launched in 2014 for the efficient management of feral cat colonies.

-A report by the Andalusian CCOO warns that Andalusian workers are poorer now than they were ten years ago.
-More than half of the Andalusian working population is paid below the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), according to a report by CCOO Andalucía.

Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Astronomers previously discovered it had two moons, making it a rare triple asteroid system. Now a third moon may have been found, making it even more uncommon — the first-known quadruple asteroid in the solar system.

Nurses in Spain protest against the ‘collapse’ and ‘total abandonment’ of the Spanish health system: SATSE, the union that represents nursing professionals throughout Spain, has announced that protests will be staged in health centres across the country, starting this Thursday, February 10.

Chimps Seen Performing First Aid on Themselves and Each Other:
Between November 2019 and February 2021, the study authors noted 76 cases of male and female Loango chimps treating an open wound with an insect. Injuries tend to occur when chimps fight among each other or attack other groups.
In three of those cases, the chimps applied insect poultices not to their own injuries, but to other group members’ wounds—a clear sign of prosocial behavior among these great apes, said Simone Pika, a cognitive biologist from Osnabrück University in Germany and co-author of the new study. New giant titanosaurian dinosaur discovered in the Pyrenees: Researchers have described the new species of titanosaur dinosaur Abditosaurus kuehnei from the remains excavated at the Orcau-1 site, in the southern Pyrenees (Catalonia, Spain). The semiarticulated 70.5-million-year-old skeleton is the most complete specimen of this herbivorous group of dinosaurs discovered so far in Europe. Moreover, Abditosaurus is the largest titanosaur species found in the Ibero-Armorican island – an ancient region nowadays comprising Iberia and the south of France – representing a senescent individual estimated to be 17,5 meters in length with body mass of 14,000 kg.

Death Certificates: My husband died in November and I am yet to receive the death certificate (there was no PM or anything.) The funeral director says this is down to the Courts and all they can do is to keep asking for them. It is now almost three months and I cannot even start the paperwork I need to do. Has anybody else been in this situation? I thought about contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau but would they be able to help? I understand you are allowed six months to deal with these things, is it six months to complete them or to start proceedings?

Landlord forced to close ‘Britain’s oldest pub’ which first opened in 8th century: The historic Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St Albans, which first opened in 793, has closed after the company which runs it went into administration. The pub’s owner Mitchells and Butlers (M&B) are now talking to the administrators of his company and will soon decide whether the venue will reopen.

An Exhibition of Paintings by Helen Purdie beginning Thursday 3rd February in Frigiliana:
The exhibition is being held at the Sala de Exposiciones Real 98, Calle Real, 29788 Frigiliana
It will be open from 11.00 – 15.00 hrs on Thursdays to Sundays from 3rd – 27th February
This will be Helen Purdie’s second exhibition in Spain since moving to Torróx pueblo. There will be over thirty paintings show-casing Helen’s unique work in acrylic and watercolour on canvas, wood and paper. She is inspired by the energising and soothing blue sky of Andalucía. Many of the paintings bring the viewer’s attention to just looking up, pausing in the moment to see where plants, trees, rocks and buildings are caught against the blue sky. The studio paintings, some taking hundreds of hours to paint, have a strong graphic quality whereas those painted outdoors are very gestural in nature. This mix of approaches in one artist makes for an interesting viewing experience.
-Helen is a self-taught artist. She left her health service career within surgery over ten years ago to pursue her painting. She has exhibited widely in that time and has many works in private and public collections. She has also published two books, one a collection of drawings undertaken in the operating rooms of a hospital in Sheffield, UK, the other a colouring book of life as an autistic adult.

The Windows Defender Security that comes with Windows 10 ranks in the top 5 of all (free or paid) antivirus programs as judged by independent reviewers. Any third party antivirus program will slow your computer down, unless you have a newish, rather powerful computer. This is especially true for Avast, AVG, Norton & McAfee. In my experience, regarding Windows 10, the only reason to use a 3rd party antivirus is if you run a business from that computer, or do frequent banking and/or credit card purchases. In that case, you will want a premium, paid antivirus, and will have to live with the slower performance. They do provide marginally better protection than the free versions, without annoying popup ads, and they have much better customer support. The 2 paid antivirus programs I would suggest, that will have the least effect on performance, both in the top 5 of most independent rankings, are Kapersky and Bit Defender. In the end there were 162 votes in favour, 153 against and 28 abstentions.
-“This is the last time that we accept blackmail of this type,” said EH Bildu deputy, Iñaki Ruiz de Pinedo.
-“It is a political practice that is not governed by honesty,” added PNV parliamentarian, Josune Gorospe.

National Police move against clandestine caravan settlements in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation, summary}
