Presentation at the Bio Beach Restaurant: Wed. Feb.9 at 11am: Speakers: Jose Manuel & Norma – Power Point Presentation at the Bio Beach Restaurant in El Morche –Topic: La Desbandada and the sinking of the Delphin off Calaceite coast, Torrox, in Jan. 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. This presentation will mark its 85th anniversary. The Desbandada highlights the massacre on the A-340 on Feb. 8th, 1937 where innocent civilians fell victims to Franco’s allies. Recommendations & Requests

DHL: Hello, has anyone experience with DHL pick-up- and delivery service? For example, to send items from here to Madrid by payment.
Thanks. Edwin / Competa / boegero@gmx.de

Death Certificates: My husband died in November and I am yet to receive the death certificate (there was no PM or anything.) The funeral director says this is down to the Courts and all they can do is to keep asking for them. It is now almost three months and I cannot even start the paperwork I need to do. Has anybody else been in this situation? I thought about contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau but would they be able to help? I understand you are allowed six months to deal with these things, is it six months to complete them or to start proceedings?
Any advice would be welcome. Carole, El Morche

MALAGA

Arabic cuisine, a free course at the San Francisco Market in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation}
-Arabic cuisine is a festival of flavours, smells and colours. It takes the essence of various cultures and has several points in common with Mediterranean gastronomy but with Asian touches, as it uses spices such as curry, saffron, turmeric, cinnamon, mint and garlic. Vegetables and cereals take precedence over meat, and the sweets are well known, which delight more than one person.
-Now the Association of Muslim Women Hidaya, in collaboration with the area of Citizen Participation of the Town Hall of Vélez-Málaga, is going to organise a free Arabic cooking course to learn how to prepare couscous, a typical Arabic dish, and sweets.
-The courses will take place on the 18th, in the afternoon, and on the 25th of February, in the morning, at the Citizen’s Office, located in the San Francisco Market in Vélez-Málaga.
-For the first of the appointments, the registration period begins this Monday 7th and ends on the 11th of February. Those wishing to attend on the 25th, must register from 14 to 18 February. To do so, please send an email to participacionciudadana@velezmalaga.es with your name, surname and contact number. Places are limited. UK

Charles praises Elizabeth’s blessing for ‘Queen Camilla’ in jubilee tribute: Prince Charles on Sunday thanked his mother Queen Elizabeth for publicly stating her desire that his wife Camilla becomes Queen Consort when he becomes king, acknowledging the honour on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the British throne.
The request – a blessing that will likely remove the need for any discussion about future titles – follows an earlier era when Camilla was vilified by the tabloid press for the breakdown of Charles’ marriage to his first wife, the late Princess Diana. Landlord forced to close ‘Britain’s oldest pub’ which first opened in 8th century: The historic Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St Albans, which first opened in 793, has closed after the company which runs it went into administration. The pub’s owner Mitchells and Butlers (M&B) are now talking to the administrators of his company and will soon decide whether the venue will reopen.
The popular pub dates back to 793 and was renamed after it hosted cock fighting in the main bar in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. (Yes, I know there are other pubs that also claim to be the oldest. -Ed.)

Sweden, Denmark & Norway ENDING Covid restrictions following England’s Move to Plan A with most restrictions removed on Jan 27th:
-Sweden- Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson announced Thursday that all of the country’s restrictions would end on Feb. 9, allowing people to return to restaurants without capacity or operating hours limitations, AP reports. This also includes the end of its vaccine and face mask mandate on public transportation, as well as its recommendation to limit social contact.
-Denmark- Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced Tuesday that the country no longer considers COVID-19 to be a “socially critical disease” and would lift its restrictions. “The pandemic is still here but with what we know, we now dare to believe that we are through the critical phase,” Frederiksen added.
-Norway- Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced Tuesday that Norway’s restrictions would end. “Even if many more people are becoming infected, there are fewer who are hospitalised. We’re well protected by vaccines. This means that we can relax many measures even as infections are rising rapidly,” Støre said. Mark Zuckerberg and team consider shutting down Facebook and Instagram in Europe if Meta can not process Europeans’ data on US servers:
-If Meta is not given the option to transfer, store and process data from its European users on US-based servers, Facebook and Instagram may be shut down across Europe, the social media giants’ owner reportedly warned in its annual report.
-The key issue for Meta is transatlantic data transfers, regulated via the so-called Privacy Shield and other model agreements that Meta uses or used to store data from European users on American servers. The current agreements to enable data transfers are currently under heavy scrutiny in the EU.
-In its annual report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Meta warns that if a new framework is not adopted and the company is no longer allowed to use the current model agreements “or alternatives,” the company will “probably” no longer be able to offer many of its “most significant products and services,” including Facebook and Instagram, in the EU, according to various media reports, including in iTWire, The Guardian newspaper and Side Line Magazine. Protests against vaccine mandates are paralyzing Canada’s capital, Ottawa’s mayor says: Protesters camped out in the Canadian capital outnumber the police and control the situation, the city’s mayor said on Sunday, as a demonstration against vaccine mandates entered a 10th day and the government said it would not back down on the issue.
The “Freedom Convoy” began as a movement against a Canadian vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers but has turned into a rallying point against public health measures and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government. Amid incessant horn blaring (horns are silenced Sundays) and occasional fireworks, a polished supply chain – including portable saunas, a community kitchen and bouncy castles for children – has sustained the protesters.
