Response to ‘Death Certificates’: I’m so sorry for your loss Carole.
My husband died two weeks ago and the funeral home (La Esperanza at Velez Malaga) had his death certificates – four Spanish and four international – ready for me to collect three days after the funeral.
Could you go to the register office yourself – with an interpreter if necessary – to find out why you have waited so long?
Getting the official wheels in motion after a death is hard enough without having such a long delay before you can even start.
Good luck. Brenda (Torrox Costa) WhatsApp 711003687

Nurses in Spain protest against the ‘collapse’ and ‘total abandonment’ of the Spanish health system: SATSE, the union that represents nursing professionals throughout Spain, has announced that protests will be staged in health centres across the country, starting this Thursday, February 10.
In a statement, the union said this action will initiate “months of struggle and vindication by nurses, male nurses, and physiotherapists, to end the abandonment and collapse of our health system”, a situation which they attribute to public administrations.
“The lack of interest from politicians and public administrations is causing health centres to suffer total abandonment, with a shortage of human resources never seen before, which is generating excessive waiting lists and a lack of quality in patient care”, stated Maria Jose Garcia, the spokesperson for SATSE.
These protests will take place in each of the autonomous communities, and will increase in intensity, with the “objective that the public administrations and political parties react, once and for all, and allocate the necessary resources and means to what really matters to citizens, such as their health and general well-being”, assured the union.

Athletes complain of hellish conditions in Chinese isolation hotels after dozens were confined with Covid: Dozens of athletes thrown into virus isolation at China’s zero-Covid Winter Olympics have laid bare their misery – describing ‘crying like crazy’ after being hauled out of bed at 3am before being fed miserable food in rooms too small for exercise.
Beijing is attempting to hold a virus-free event in the midst of a pandemic, isolating competitors and their teams in a bubble where tests must be taken every day, with anyone who tests positive dragged off to isolation.
Valeria Vasnetsova, a Russian biathlete, took to Instagram to post an image of food she says was served to her three times a day for five days. The image shows a portion of plain pasta, some kind of grilled meat on the bone, an unidentifiable orange sauce, some potatoes, and what appears to be plain chicken. Other than the potatoes, which appear to have been fried, no vegetables are included on the plate.
Vasnetsova went on to claim that non-athletes on her team being held in the same hotel appear to have been getting better food, saying her team doctor was served fresh fruit, a salad and prawns with broccoli.
‘I honestly don’t understand, why is there this attitude to us, the athletes,’ she wrote. Full article:

Chimps Seen Performing First Aid on Themselves and Each Other:
Between November 2019 and February 2021, the study authors noted 76 cases of male and female Loango chimps treating an open wound with an insect. Injuries tend to occur when chimps fight among each other or attack other groups.
In three of those cases, the chimps applied insect poultices not to their own injuries, but to other group members’ wounds—a clear sign of prosocial behavior among these great apes, said Simone Pika, a cognitive biologist from Osnabrück University in Germany and co-author of the new study. Two of those three instances involved unrelated apes.

New giant titanosaurian dinosaur discovered in the Pyrenees: Researchers have described the new species of titanosaur dinosaur Abditosaurus kuehnei from the remains excavated at the Orcau-1 site, in the southern Pyrenees (Catalonia, Spain). The semiarticulated 70.5-million-year-old skeleton is the most complete specimen of this herbivorous group of dinosaurs discovered so far in Europe. Moreover, Abditosaurus is the largest titanosaur species found in the Ibero-Armorican island – an ancient region nowadays comprising Iberia and the south of France – representing a senescent individual estimated to be 17,5 meters in length with body mass of 14,000 kg.
