– The population of the Iberian lynx in Andalusia has reached a new historical record in 2021 with 522 specimens, a figure that consolidates the community as a reference in the conservation of this species, by concentrating 38.2 % of the total of the Iberian Peninsula (1,635).
– This is reflected in the census published today by staff of the Junta de Andalucía attached to the Iberian Lynx Recovery Plan and members of the CBD-Habitat Foundation, which indicates that the population of this feline has grown by 16 specimens, which is 3.1 % more than in 2020, the regional administration reported in a statement.

EU Citizens Now Need a Visa to Enter Japan: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that EU/EEA citizens, as well as citizens of several other countries who do not hold a re-entry permit, need to apply for a visa in order to be able to newly enter Japan, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– “Currently, all foreign nationals who are recognised to be in special exceptional circumstances, and wish to newly enter Japan, need to apply for a visa except for those with re-entry permit,” the Ministry said, announcing the new rules.

– Additionally, those who wish to stay in Japan for more than 90 days are required to apply for an extension of the period of stay.

Big Changes Coming To Fakebook- Changing Its Algorithm To Take On Tiktok- To feed you stories the Algorithm wants you to see (otherwise known as Spam), rather than sourcing stories from pages you follow and have shown genuine interest in:
– Facebook employees were recently given a new directive with sweeping implications: make the app’s home page feed more like TikTok.
– Simply bringing Reels, the company’s short-form video feature, from Instagram into Facebook wasn’t going to cut it. Executives were closely tracking TikTok’s moves and had grown worried that they weren’t doing enough to compete. In conversations with CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year, they decided that Facebook needed to rethink the feed entirely.
– In an internal memo from late April obtained by The Verge, the Meta executive in charge of Facebook, Tom Alison, spelled out the plan: rather than prioritize posts from accounts people follow, Facebook’s main feed will, like TikTok, start heavily recommending posts regardless of where they come from. Infoca fights new forest fire in the Serranía de Ronda: Two helicopters and four crews of specialist firefighters rushed to the scene of the blaze in the Arroyo El Cucharro area in the Genal valley municipality of Algatocín
– A new forest fire has been been declared in Algatocín in the Serranía de Ronda this Thursday afternoon (16 June) just one day after the blaze in the Sierra Bermeja, that started a week ago in the nearby village of Pujerra, was reported to be controlled, but not extinguished.
– The Junta de Andaluía’s Plan Infoca brigade initially reported, at 4.20pm, that two helicopters were despatched to the scene of the blaze in the Arroyo El Cucharro area in the Genal valley municipality of Algatocín. Four teams of firefighters on the ground were also tackling the flames.
– People in the area reported that the fire was visible from the A-373, at kilometre 68. It caught the attention of several drivers who were traveling on the road between Algatocín and Salitre.

Andalucia Parliament Elections Polls- Seville would stop being ‘red’ (Socialist) for the first time in the history of democracy & conservative PP are winning by a landslide in Malaga 9 seats to 4: {Translation}
-Seville, the great bastion of the Andalusian PSOE, is crumbling. The only province where it has won all the elections (general, regional, municipal and European) since the beginning of democracy is on the way to overturning the electoral statistics. How the president of the Junta is elected after the Andalusia 2022 elections June 19th: {Translation}
-After the Andalusian elections on Sunday 19 June, the next president of the Junta de Andalucía will be elected from among the candidates who have been officially proclaimed. The votes cast at the polls elect the 109 deputies who will form part of the Andalusian Parliament in the 12th Legislature, and it is they who will elect the president of the Junta, in the same way as the president of the Government.

Google suspends engineer who claims its Artificial Intellegence (AI) is sentient: Google has placed one of its engineers on paid administrative leave for allegedly breaking its confidentiality policies after he grew concerned that an AI chatbot system had achieved sentience, the Washington Post reports. The engineer, Blake Lemoine, works for Google’s Responsible AI organization, and was testing whether its LaMDA model generates discriminatory language or hate speech.

Fryer-Free Flamenquín: The traditional recipe of flamenquín is made with pieces of Serrano ham or smoked pork shoulder, and often cheese, rolled into a pork loin, then egg-washed and bread crumbed and the last step, you deep-fried it. Over the years, new flamenquín recipes have been developed using different ingredients. For a Mexican twist, add hot-pepper cheese and pickled jalapeño slices.
Since we try to minimize consumption of fried foods for health reasons, here is a flamenquín which is lighter since it’s not deep-fried but baked, and with chicken breasts substituted for pork loin. In search of the friendliness gene that turned wolves into dogs:
-In a double experiment published in Scientific Reports, Nagsawa and his team observed that ancient Japanese dog breeds–which are closer to primitive wolf-dogs than modern breeds are–had diminished capacities of responding to signals from humans. After examining the genetics of over 600 dogs, the scientists found that some had a distinctive quality related to the production of cortisol, a stress hormone.
-Over email, Nagasawa explains that the results support the hypothesis that some of those early dogs had genetic mutations that allowed them to experience less stress when in contact with humans. That allowed the beginnings of the interactions that turned into friendship. “Even though it’s still not clear whether cortisol, a stress marker, is lower in dogs than in wolves, it can give us clues about how canine tolerance and the ability to adapt to human society was developed,” the researcher explains. -The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, together with the director of the DGT, Pere Navarro, has announced a new B-1 driving license from the age of 16 for electric vehicles that reach a maximum speed of 90 kilometers/hour and maximum weight of 400 kilograms. Europe’s largest meat-eating dinosaur found on Isle of Wight: Fossilized bones discovered on a rocky seashore on England’s Isle of Wight are the remains of a meat-eating dinosaur that may be larger than any other known from Europe, a beast that was a cousin of the biggest carnivorous dinosaur species on record.

The European Parliament has endorsed a ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035, as part of its decarbonisation commitment: The European Union assembly voted in Strasbourg, France, in favour of a motion that will require carmakers to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 100 per cent by the middle of the next decade.

Golf News- PGA Tour indefinitely suspends any current, future golfers in LIV Golf Invitational Series: In a memo to membership early Thursday, the PGA Tour announced that any current and future players in the LIV Golf Invitational Series are indefinitely suspended.
-The announcement came less than an hour after the rival league kicked off play Thursday at the Centurion Club outside London, with a 48-man field featuring a handful of PGA Tour stalwarts, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia.
