Warning for Potential Vendors

I send this post because a few days ago I posted an ad to put on sale a smart phone.

On it, I said how much I wanted for it and I never said that the price was negotiable.

A woman from Nerja was interested on it but it should have been unblocked. That was on Friday and we should meet on Sunday and I should go to Nerja because she hasn’t got transport.

Well, the phone was unblocked on Saturday, of course I paid for it and when I told her that it was unblocked and I tried to make an appointment with her, then is when she says she will pay 31€ less and no more!!!!

Meanwhile, I said another person who was interested that it was already sold.

She hasn’t be honest with me from the beginning and as I told her, we’re not in Morocco, I never said I accepted offers.

I just want to tell all Digamites that let’s be sincere from the beginning, that will make things easier and that will also avoid losing our time. JR

Recommendation –Fitness Instructor – exercise classes

I would like to offer a recommendation for Zoe Emadi – who set up a body conditioning class in Nerja.

Unfortunately due to poor attendance the class has now closed but she is offering classes in the Puente Don Manuel area.

Zoe was excellent.

She took the time to ask about my health status, what I wanted from an exercise programme and any barriers to me achieving my goals.

She was able to encourage me to my limits so that I left the class glad I had made out alive but delighted with how much I achieved.

It was just a shame there were not enough people to keep the class going in Nerja!

Response to the Attack in Torrox

I have been left speechless by the Torrox mugging post. Is this the moment in time when our lovely, safe village catches up with the rest of this horrible world we live in.

I pride myself when I tell people stories of my friends or myself walking home in the wee small hours, feeling safe in the knowledge you will make it home safe & unscathed. Boy, am I going to need to rewrite the script now or what.

I know we have had out share robberies, vandalism & petty crime over the years, but what happened to this gentleman the other day is about as scary & real as it gets.

What can we do to keep our village that I thought was frozen in time, safe from the horrors of the outside world?

The simple answer to that question is, nothing!

I just hope the police get onto this incident as quickly as they can & we as a community remain vigilant & hope that this is a one off incident.

I hope the gentleman involved in this incident, makes a full recovery, both mentally & physically.

Torrox Attack

To All , Be aware! Last Friday evening approximately 9.30 pm I was attacked from behind as I was about to get into my car.I was parked in the centre of the top car park (olive factory ) the first I recall is a hand with some sort of rubber glove ( garden type ) over my mouth and my head jerked from the left to right very hard my spectacles were swiped away and my teeth were broken and two back teeth diss lodged.
The culprit shouted something ( Spanish maybe) which I did not understand but I resisted and managed to stab him with the car key for what good it was ,I then felt his hand go into my left pocket and he removed approximately 65 euros.He then pushed me forward into the car door and legged it,he was accompanied by another.
This cowardly deed I reported the police and guardia who took full statements from me.
I am aware that this message is late ,but my wife was on a cruise and reads the post , it may be selfish but I did not want to upset her,because she would have asked me !
I had emergency dental treatment on Saturday and must thank Graham from Torrox village for his help with emergency treatment with my teeth ( no steak for a while)
I had injuries to my shoulder and ribs , but think it was with my resistance
I have mailed this to make people aware

After visiting and staying with hard working people in local homes in Uganda and Kenya my friend and I would like to help them to survive in some way . They desperately need second hand English books , clothes , shoes , bed sheets , Smart Phones and toys. We have the local contacts now to collect the donated stuff from Kampala , Kisumu, Nairobi or the sea port of Mombasa.

Recommendation –Re-painting you vehicle

If you want to repaint your car the same or a different colour then read on

re how I repainted my 20 year old Renault Clio which was a bit of a mess.

First I found a good paint shop where they mixed paint to my satisfaction, then I rubbed the car down with wire wool then, after masking up with tape.

With a 4″ roller I rolled the paint onto the car.

It turned out to be a fantastic looking car. the paint shop was

Dogs “Found” ??

I regularly see requests from Digamites who have picked up dogs from the streets or beach areas. A lot of these dogs are not lost.

They are Spanish latch key dogs.

The Spanish often let their dogs out during the day time whilst they are at work. If a dog looks to be well fed, then leave it alone. Only do the good Samaritan bit if a dog looks like it needs rescuing through malnutrition.

In my village we have about 6 or eight dogs that wander around during the day, but disappear during the evening when their owners return.

Mortgages & Bank Rates

I approached Cajamar Bank regarding the floor rate clause via a solicitor and managed to get my rate reduced by 2.9%, however, at that time The Banks weren’t obliged to return overpayments from beginning of Mortgage.

Now, following the Supreme Court Ruling, they have been ordered to reimburse customers overpayments and not only that Notary and Tax fees can be reclaimed. To keep the ball rolling they have also been told to get on with it and don’t drag their heels, in other words, pay up pronto.

I know there are still provisions to go to court but if enough people fight for their money then any court ruling , if it came to that must surely go in the favour of the client.

Don’t put it off, check your mortgage and take action if necessary.

Nerja 41 Club which is a club for Ex Round Tablers from all over the world enjoyed a Swedish evening run by two of our Swedish members.

Ragnar and Lennart along with their ladies Lillian and Agneta provided an evening showing us how children dress by tradition on Santa Lucia day which is seen in Sweden as being the beginning of the Christmas season.

The tradition is for the oldest girl in the family to dress in a white robe with a red sash and wear a crown of candles and lingonberry. She is dressed as St Lucia. The other girls dress in white with silver crowns. The boys wear pointed silver hats and carry wands with stars on them.

We were given lessons in Swedish etiquette, Lessons in Toasting the Ladies, Lessons in singing in Swedish, Lessons in drinking Snaps, Lessons in eating Herring, Lessons in Swedish words, facts and folklore as well as Swedish dancing.

Chairman Jim presented Alfie Fornear with a special jewel for running the Iberian 41 Cluster of Spanish Clubs a couple of years ago, for raising the bar for attendance at these events to new hights and demonstrating to other Clubs what can be acheived through effective planning and marketing.

Processionary Caterpillars – here we go again !

If you own a pet in Spain, dog or cat, you will know of the Processionary caterpillars that come down from those white nests in the pine trees any time now and can kill your precious pet.

For what it is worth, here is my method of dealing with the ones on my land.

I have a 5.5 meter pruning pole – cord attached and if you add my 2 meters I can reach 7 – 8 meters. Out I go with this and a plastic bag, neatly snipping off the nests.

Back at the house they go into an old black plastic builders bucket, quick poke through the white cotton wool nest with a stick and then my secret weapon is the wonderful Domestos Bleach (no connection with the company) that I only see in Supersol. It is very strong. Add water to taste and leave to soak.

They are all dead in seconds. There can be 300-400 in a nest the size of a small loaf.

In the early days I tried a gas torch on a pole – took ages and expensive, and yes I know – the fire risk.

Then I tried shooting at the nests but one is never sure where they end up.

I also tried cutting with the pruner and burning but they are very hardy and I found some survived the bonfire by burrowing beneath the ashes.

No doubt we will hear more on this perennial subject – at least it is cheaper than big game hunting in Africa.

It’s just heartbreaking that this male beautiful cat does not have a human to cuddle.
I have been feeding him since more or less two weeks now and he apparently does not have a home.
He loves humans. I can’t go back to Germany without knowing he has a loving home. I live in a van and have a dog so I am not able to keep him. Does anybody want to take him? I would help to catch him.

This is the generic term for the tax ID number for all individuals.
For Spaniards, it’s the DNI plus one letter, for Extranjeros (foreigners) it is their NIE.

What’s on Local Author – Book Signing

One of the chapters is a story of the myth of how the village got its name, an account recorded on the shield of the village – ‘SÉ DE ELLA’.

Don’t Throw it Away !

In any condition, any type of plastic storage units wanted to make a “home” for these 2 young affectionate lovelies abandoned last June between the Rio Seco and Punta Lara, Nerja. They have been neutered and are now being fed, watered, socialised, cuddled on the campo by the residents.

Of course they would love a forever home but in the interim a place to shelter them would be great.

Suzie Needs a Home

Suzie turned up at a holiday home in Frigiliana where some lovely people have been feeding her and looking after her with their own cat. Now, though, they have to go home at the end of the month and they can’t take her with them.

She is house trained and sleeps inside on the settee each night with no need for cat litter and she also goes out in the campo during the day, never strays far and comes back to a whistle. She’s very friendly and social and she is also gentle and often sits watching telly or watches the washing go round in the machine or she’ll play with a wine cork or similar toy. She’s neutered, vaccinated and treated against fleas and worms and was probably born in June or July last year. Hi, my name is Kelly. (AAR 1683) I’m a female Bodeguero Mix and I’m 12 months old. I’m a small/medium sized dog. I’m 37cm tall, and I weigh 10.00kg . I’m neutered. I’m good with other dogs, cats and with children. I’ve had my vaccinations and have my chip and passport so I’m ready to travel to a new forever home in Spain, or (unless otherwise mentioned) anywhere in Europe. When I was found I had been living rough for a least two weeks, probably longer as I was very thin and undernourished. I was also very scared. Since I´ve been in my lovely foster home I´ve gained weight and I´m happy and much more confident. I like to play with other dogs and cats and also children. I am gaining confidence all the time and I have become a very happy dog. I love to play with my step sister and enjoy my walks with my foster mums other dogs. I am very good on the lead and when I am allowed to be free I have learnt to return with recall very well. I would love to go somewhere where there may be another dog and I love children too, but it doesn’t matter too much. All I need is lots of love and nice food and walks.
