Flight delays and compensation

I read Nigel B’s post with great interest having tried to claim compensation from Monarch after a 18 hour delay. The flight attendants handed out all the necessary claim forms and told us we would receive compensation. Nothing happened. Not even an acknowledgement they had received the paperwork. After a year, I sent the whole caboodle in again. Nothing happened. As there is no phone number I am unable to pursue this by phone, and clearly, the email isn’t working. -Many Windows 10 users are having problems with their computers freezing up since the Creator’s Update was released recently. If this happens to you try this before seeking help. Connect your comp to your router with an Ethernet cable instead of using WiFi. Then restart the comp 3 or 4 times, paying attention to any pop-up instructions and doing what they tell you to do. It usually sorts out a hung-up update.-Many Win 7 and Vista computers that should never have been updated to Win 10 are now having crashes after Win 10 is installed. It can take 6mo or more before problems become evident. You did check the manufacturers website to confirm your model was Win 10 capable before allowing the update to proceed, didn’t you? The Microsoft Win 10 Upgrade Advisor cannot be trusted! You MUST check the mfg website for correct info! -Protonmail.com free email users now have a free VPN available. Open Protonmail, go to Settings, then click VPN and proceed with installing it.-SPECIAL: Today’s new large hard drives are under much more stress than the older smaller ones since the tracking arm must do more work to cover the greater disk area. Extend the life of your hard drive by getting it reconditioned. Does not remove any data, recovers bad sectors and re-energizes the magnetic surface of the disk. Spanish Banks -Caution

Liz Bedford may like to know that two years ago when arriving at my holiday home in Competa I discovered my Spanish bank account had been frozen, and the only way to get it unfrozen was to provide the bank with proof of my income. This I did by arranging for copies of my pension statements to be emailed to the bank, thankfully before any of the standing orders were left unpaid.
So, if you have a Spanish bank account and don’t reside there, be aware that if you fail to supply proof of income by 31st August annually your bank account is liable to be frozen.

Every Saturday from 10am to 2pm we find seasonal fruits and vegetables, proximity and certified organic, eggs and bread, spices, tea and coffee,  organic products from “comercio justo”, extra virgin olive oil, Álora olives, natural soap, cheeses and wine and artisan beers, this week we will have some beer  from La Axarcä. Have a coffee or tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, toast and for only € 3 is it possible? Yes, at the Bar’s Bar !!!  The craft zone grows! Ethnic jewellery in silver and leather, Indian tablecloths, skirts and tunics, woolen cushions and patchwork pieces. Every second Saturday we received the visit of Humus Malaga! Where? In the hills of southern Spain over five hundred years ago, a mix of cultures and religions created a lifestyle steeped in beauty, philosophy and the ancient sciences. Flight Delays & Compensation

I recently travelled from Gatwick to Malaga on an Easyjet late afternoon flight.

It was delayed by almost four hours. Not sure how many readers are aware, but depending on distance of the scheduled flight and length of time delayed, you are entitled by European law to compensation. I am to receive four hundred euros shortly. Any flight delays you have experienced under qualifying criteria can be back dated up to six years, so it might be worth checking back through your old flights! (the only time they can evade paying out is for bird strike, which is something totally out of their control). For info.

Do you pay your UK road tax by monthly Direct Debit? If your MOT renewal date is near the end of the month…. and it fails the MOT…. and you can’t get it fixed and re-MOT’d before the last day of the month…. DVLA know your vehicle has no MOT and they will not take the Direct Debit and your vehicle will then be not taxed. So when your vehicle gets its new MOT a few days into the next month, you must contact DVLA immediately to tax it from the beginning of the month and set up a new Direct Debit. If the vehicle is found parked on the public highway it will be clamped, there are companies employed by DVLA driving round with number plate recognition cameras and they are very keen. The minimum you will end up paying is £100 and that is mandatory (plus the road tax). DVLA will attempt to inform you, which is why you must always notify them of a change of address and contact details. The vehicle can also be impounded and the pound can be many miles away, there are several secure compounds dotted around the country. That will be £extra please. Of course if you’re not taxed, you’re not insured so if you was caught driving it by the police number plate recognition cameras, that will also be £extra! Plus driving licence points I expect.

Something you can do to help the situation is to have your MOT renewal date near the start of the month, which gives you plenty of time to get it fixed before the end of the month.

Also, remember that everything I’ve said above also applies even if you do the MOT a month early, as you are allowed to.

If the vehicle fails the MOT and you can’t get it fixed by the end of the month, DVLA know and will not take the monthly Direct Debit and you will not be taxed…. etcetera…. etcetera….etcetera. (King And I).

The source of this information is the DVLA website…. and a relative that had got the vehicle MOT’d 3 days into the following month due to a delay in repairs being carried out (by the garage that did the MOT and did not realise the implications) but had not notified DVLA of a recent change of address! The car was parked on the road and was found clamped and a big notice on the windscreen giving instructions on how to spend money! By the way, this notice was very difficult to remove. This was complained about and was told to use a razor blade, but carefully!

Warning

We all need to be very, very aware of thieves around the courtesy bus area.

I saw a short man shuffling about near our bus. I remember him well because he seemed to have a lot of clothes on for such a very, very hot night. Also I saw him gently scratch the driver’s window as he passed by. Didn’t think much of it at the time but now I believe he was signaling the bus driver. We were the only ones in the courtesy bus, and the bag certainly wasn’t there when we got back to the area where our car was.

Yesterday we went and reported it to the police and I gave them all these details. They very kindly allowed us to look at some CCTV where we could see that we had the bag with us as we walked into the courtesy bus area. The police were very helpful but we couldn’t watch the cCCTV around the waiting area because the cameras are up high and naturally there are loads of people and buses around.

It must have happened while we allowed the bus driver to put our suitcase in the bus and while Tom was getting in. Split second stuff! The shuffling man must have been in cahoots with bus driver who’s name was (name removed due to EU anti-defamation laws for blog sites, see submission rules at the bottom of this issue.), not that that helps much. The courtesy bus was (name removed due to EU anti-defamation laws for blog sites) which we have used several times and always been happy with their service.

I wonder whether we should denounce the bus driver?

Help Please- Missing Luggage

Was anybody at Malaga Airport on Friday 1st September about 10pm, maybe in the luggage hall or waiting for a courtesy bus outside?

We have lost a piece of hand luggage, black and green tartan with brown carrying straps, measuring approximately 40cms long, 20 cms wide, 30 cms high.

We have contacted the Lost and Found department who have been very helpful but it has not been handed in. I have an awful feeling that it may have been stolen while we were waiting for the courtesy bus outside, or perhaps stolen from the luggage hall. Amongst other things it contains 2 iPads, one of which has the ability to be found if it is switched on which hasn’t happened yet.

In reply to one of your readers, David Davis said on the BBC yesterday that an arrangement had been agreed on healthcare for UK pensioners in Europe.

This is an excerpt from the Guardian online.

“British pensioners who have retired to other EU countries will continue to have their healthcare paid for by the NHS post-Brexit, after a deal in principle was agreed by negotiators in Brussels. In one of the few advances made in discussions about EU citizens’ future rights, the Brexit secretary, David Davis, said there had been agreement on four key areas, including reciprocal healthcare for British and EU retirees affected by Brexit.

“This is good news for British pensioners in the EU,” he said.”

Lost Puppy  

He is about 4/5 months old, black with a white cross shape on his chest and 4 white feet.

He is very nervous and was very thin, however since being fed and watered he looks a lot better, although will not let us stroke or get near to him.

We are staying at a villa In Trapiche until Friday 8th Sept and would love to reunite him with his family.

What’s on – at El Valle

We are an expat group based near Vinuela.

We have our monthly meetings at the camping restaurant by lake Vinuela on the A356. We meet on the 1st Monday of the month at 7pm for 7-30pm and have various activities and speakers.

This Monday we have a local dance group called Let’s Dance who will be entertaining us and I have been to a few of the rehearsals and they are a very talented group.

Kitten Living Dangerously…..

This is Dora (the explorer) she is a beautiful little kitten who we are fostering, she’s friendly with, people, other cats and dogs. We have a problem, our apartment is on the ground floor right next to a main road and Dora has discovered that she can now get on to the terrace wall, it won’t be long before she is brave enough to jump down on to the street. We are worried about her because of the amount of traffic and the speed at which it passes our apartment.
