During the celebration of the Feast there will be tastings of white garlic, workshops, regional dances, parades and flamenco night, as well as for the first time free tours so that visitors can get to know the town. 15,000 visitors are expected.
Ajoblanco is a traditional dish associated with the territory of the Axarquia; the nutritional value of ajoblanco lies in the quality of the elements that compose it: the extra virgin olive oil (antioxidants, fatty acids, mono-and polyunsaturated, vitamins and minerals), almonds (mainly proteins) and the garlic (antiseptic par excellence). COVID & MONKEYPOX

Covid Spain- Occupation by Covid in ICUs bottoms out, only 229 admitted:
– The incidence continues to fall, 153 cases compared to 162 last Friday, but in the last four days there have been 254 new deaths.
– The Hospital La Fe in Valencia announced last Monday that it no longer has any patients with covid in its intensive care units, a fact that has not occurred since the start of the pandemic, in March 2020. At Hospital La Paz Madrid, another reference health complex, there was only one patient admitted with covid. And this trend is beginning to spread to other hospitals throughout the country. Only 229 patients with coronavirus are admitted today to the ICUs of Spanish hospitals, the lowest number since the Ministry of Health began publishing this registry, in August 2020. Mad Cool cancels its Sunset festival in Madrid after headliner Rage Against The Machine pulled out – Malaga Show Goes On With Replacement Headliners:
– Twelve days before the celebration of Mad Cool Sunset, the festival scheduled for September 10 at the Vadebebas venue (Madrid), the organization has canceled the event. After headliner Rage Against The Machine pulled out, announced 19 days ago, the organizers have said in a statement that they have not been able to find a substitute band of such great popularity on short notice.
– Rage Against The Machine has canceled its entire European tour to facilitate Zach de la Rocha’s medical recovery, which has also caused them to pull out of Malaga’s Andalucía Big Festival macro-concert also organized by Mad Cool. In that case, the organizers have replaced the rock group with three bands of different styles: C Tangana, Franz Ferdinand (vid) and Suede. MALAGA

Sacaba beach in Malaga closed due to the presence of a bacterium:
{Translation}
– The Malaga City Council has closed Sacaba beach, in the western part of the city of Malaga, to bathing this Tuesday, at the request of the Health Department of the Andalusian Regional Government after an alteration of the microbiological parameter due to the presence in the water of the bacterium “Escherichia coli” was detected.
– The council has received a communication from the Junta asking it to adopt the necessary preventive health measures until the results of the analysis indicate that the water is suitable for bathing.
– The council claims to be unaware of the causes of this alteration, which has led to the closure of the section between the breakwater of the Térmica and the mouth of the Guadalhorce river.
– The municipal water company, Emasa, has checked all the points in the supply and drainage network where there could have been a spillage and has not detected any malfunctioning.
– This same beach had to be closed to bathing in July due to a burst pipe during construction work. Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1070762/cerrada-la-playa-de-sacaba-en-malaga-por-la-presencia-de-una-bacteria/

Your Smartphone Precisely Tracks Everywhere You Go 24/7, and That Data Is For Sale:
(This article is about a USA court case, but it exposes a worldwide data harvesting scandal I have warned readers about for many years. DoctorLaptop’s insightful comment follows the article. -Ed.)
– The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Monday said it filed a lawsuit against Kochava, a location data broker, for collecting and selling precise geolocation data gathered from consumers’ mobile devices.
– The location data is offered to its customers in the form of a feed that can be accessed through online data marketplaces for a $25,000 subscription. As recently as June 2022, it also made available a free sample dataset for a rolling seven-day period on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace with no restrictions placed on its usage.
– “This premium U.S. Precision Geo feed delivers raw latitude / longitude data with volumes around 94Billion+ geo transactions per month, 125 million monthly active users, and 35 million daily active users, on average observing more than 90 daily transactions per device,” Kochava noted. (Yes, you read that right. Your smartphone reports your location 90+ times a day to the data mining services!)
– It’s worth noting that each pair of timestamped latitude and longitude coordinates are associated with a device identifier – i.e., mobile advertising IDs (MAIDs) – a unique, anonymous alphanumeric identifier that iOS or Android assigns to each mobile device.
– Stating that the company’s sale of geolocation data puts users at significant risk, the consumer protection watchdog said the information enables purchasers to identify and track specific mobile device users, and worse, combined with other datasets such as property records to unmask their identity.
– “The company’s data allows purchasers to track people at sensitive locations that could reveal information about their personal health decisions, religious beliefs, and steps they are taking to protect themselves from abusers,” the FTC said. “The release of this data could expose them to stigma, discrimination, physical violence, emotional distress, and other harms.”
– The lawsuit comes as the FTC in July cautioned businesses against the illegal use and sharing of highly sensitive data and false claims about data anonymization.
(WhatsApp being the worst offender, misrepresenting their so called “end to end encryption” as providing secure messaging, when it is in fact not secure. Their encryption is very limited, only protecting you from your service provider snooping, or from an attack you are not likely to be the victim of, called a “man-in-the-middle attack”.
Malware in a phone can capture anything on WhatsApp, since it will gather the data as it is entered, before it is encrypted, or malware will capture it from the receiver, when the message is decrypted for the recipient to read. A total farce to call that secure!!! And to make things worse, WhatsApp backs-up all your conversations, unencrypted, to the regularly-hacked “cloud” for data storage. So inevitably it will be subject to data mining. -DoctorLaptop.) Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2022/08/ftc-sues-data-broker-over-selling.html

Today is La Tomatina, the famous tomato street fight:
– In a village called Buñol, near Valencia, there is a crazy festival that takes place every year on the last Wednesday of August. It is called la Tomatina and it is the biggest tomato fight in the world! Thousands of people flock to the village to join the tomato-throwing event. The amount of participants has now been limited to 22,000 for safety.
– In the morning, lorries – los camiones – arrive, loaded with around 160 tons of tomatoes that have been specially grown for the festival. The special tomatoes are extra ripe so that they are soft. They do not have a good taste.
– The day begins at around 10 a.m. with the ‘greased pole.’ In Spanish it is called el palo jabón. People try to climb up the slippery pole where there is a leg of ham attached to the top. When a lucky person eventually manages to fetch the ham – el jamón – the tomato fight can begin!
– Before the battle begins, shops and windows are boarded up so that they are protected. The tomato fight – la batalla – usually starts at around 11 a.m. and it lasts for one hour. A signal is fired, meaning that the tomato-throwing can begin.
– One hour later, another signal means that the tomato-throwing must stop. Everybody is in a terrible state because they are covered in tomato juice, seeds and bits! Afterwards, the messy streets are hosed down with water.
– This traditional event dates back to 1945 when some cheeky boys decided to throw tomatoes at a procession taking place on the last Wednesday of August. The boys decided to do the same thing during the procession the following year. Gradually, it became a tradition to throw tomatoes during the procession and it is now one of the most popular festivals in Spain! Full article: https://www.euroclub-schools.org/la-tomatina

Half a million homeless after deadly floods leave a third of Pakistan underwater: Nearly half a million people crowded into camps after losing their homes in widespread flooding and the climate minister warned Monday that Pakistan is on the “front line” of the world’s climate crisis, after unprecedented monsoon rains that began in mid-June wracked the country, killing more than 1,130 people.
– A third of Pakistan was underwater as a result of flooding caused by record monsoon rains, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said Monday, creating a crisis of “unimaginable proportions”. “It’s all one big ocean, there’s no dry land to pump the water out,” she said.
– The rains stopped more than two days ago, and floods in some areas were receding. But Pakistanis in many parts of the country were still wading through waters that filled their homes or covered their town’s streets as they struggled with how to deal with the damage to homes and businesses. SPAIN

Spain’s Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, Declares Feminist Takeover- “…the construction of a feminist society, and men also play a role…new masculinities and the role of men in feminism.”:
{Translation, summary} 29/08/2022 11:03
– The Minister for Equality spoke in an interview on Radiocable, referring to the ‘only yes is yes’ law passed last week in Congress. Montero reiterated that this law “is a victory after many years of struggle by the feminist movement”. “It is excellent news that Spain is at the forefront in the recognition of women’s rights,” Montero said.
– For Montero, the law “is a victory”, but she acknowledged that “much remains to be done” and mentioned the need to continue with the work of the State Pact against Gender Violence as part of her agenda for the coming months.
– The Minister for Equality also focused on “the need for affective-sexual education, awareness-raising and social debate” and said, with regard to criticism of her Ministry, that “all societies are sexist”.
– For this reason, she assured that the Ministry “is going to take very seriously” the initiation of a “reflection on how men also play a role in the construction of a feminist society”. And, to this end, she announced the launch of campaigns from September onwards “that have to do with new masculinities and the role of men in feminism”.

AXARQUIA

Asian algae are beginning to leave their mark on the Axarquia coastline: {Translation}
– The first large nestings of the invasive species are appearing on the beaches of Nerja and experts predict that the plague will get worse.
– Detected for the first time in 2015 in Ceuta, where it is believed that it came from the hold of the huge cargo ships from Japan, the ‘Rugulopteryx okamurae’ or Asian algae invasion continues without control by the Spanish Mediterranean. Since the end of 2018 it has confirmed its presence at the natural cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo, who share the provinces of Malaga and Granada, one of the areas of greatest biodiversity of the Spanish coast.
– In this year of 2022, more than 450 fishing boats in Andalusia have requested aid for the damage caused by the invasive algae. In addition to suffering economic losses from reduced catches, fishermen have also been spending months and money fixing their nets. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Mysterious “Spanish Stonehenge” Built Around 5000 B.C. No Longer Submerged Due to Drought: The mysterious “Spanish Stonehenge” is no longer underwater. The Dolmen of Guadalperal is completely visible due to the lower water level in the Valdecañas reservoir (Cáceres). A persistent drought has caused the historic archaeological site, which had been hidden from view for decades, to surface. The treasure comprises hundreds of vertically stacked megalithic stones and is thought to have been created around 5,000 BC. Full article:

TRAVEL NEWS

The Iberia strike affects a Malaga-Madrid connection this Monday:
{Translation} 27 Aug, 2022 13:00h
– This Sunday begins a series of 10 days of strike among Iberia Express cabin crew (TCP) called by USO, in a protest that demands better wages in the negotiation of the agreement, from which CC.OO., the other central with representation in the company, has dissociated itself.
– After an unsuccessful attempt to reach a compromise this Friday at the negotiating table of the 2nd Iberia Express Flight Attendants Agreement, USO is maintaining the strike until 6 September for the 532 crew members of the airline. The Ministry of Transport set the minimum services, which are between 32% and 85% of the services operated to or from Madrid by Iberia Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Iberia.
– The company has announced the cancellation of 24 flights, all of them not included in the minimum services, with origin or destination in Madrid-Barajas for tomorrow and Monday and Tuesday, so that only those that Transport has established as minimum services will operate.
– The trade union calling the strike puts the number of Madrid-Barajas-based flights that will be suspended on the 10 days for which the strike has been called at 92, but airline sources specify that the suspensions from the 31st onwards have not yet been decided. Iberia Express says that on the 28th and 29th it will cancel one return flight per day with the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Seville and Santiago; on the 29th one with Malaga (return), and on the 30th another return flight in each case with the Balearic Islands, Seville and Santiago.
– The 3,000 customers that the airline calculates will be affected by these cancellations have been notified of the changes. Some 66% have been rebooked on other flights and 34% are waiting to choose the alternative that suits them best (alternative transport, reimbursement, change of date or vouchers). Tennis News- Serena, Venus Williams get US Open doubles wild-card entry: The American siblings, who have won two of their 14 women’s doubles Grand Slam titles at Flushing Meadows, were given a wild-card entry by the U.S. Tennis Association on Saturday, making it their first tournament as a team in more than four years.
– Serena announced this month that she is preparing to end her playing career and, while she did not explicitly say the U.S. Open would be her final event, she has indicated it will be.
– Serena, who turns 41 next month, and Venus, who turned 42 in June, won women’s doubles championships at the U.S. Open in 1999, the year Serena won her first major singles trophy at age 17 in New York, and 2009. Their other Grand Slam triumphs in doubles: six at Wimbledon, four at the Australian Open and two at the French Open. The most recent came at the All England Club in 2016. Photo: AP /Darron Cummings.

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

Covid Andalucia- Drop in admissions to 267, with 31 deaths: {Translation, summary} 26/08/2022 12:42
– Andalusia has registered a total of 1,311 new cases of coronavirus since last Tuesday, of which 757 have occurred in people over 60. The number of deaths has risen by 31.
– This was indicated by the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs in the Covid-19 communiqué released on Friday, which also indicated that Andalusia continues to reduce the number of hospitalised patients – a situation that has existed since the end of July – and recorded 27 fewer than last Tuesday, to 267, while admissions to care units rose by three to eleven.
– By provinces, Malaga recorded 53 hospitalised patients, of which two are in ICU, followed by Seville, with 48 hospitalised patients and one in ICU; Cadiz, with 42 and two in ICU; Jaen, with 33 hospitalised patients, of which three are in ICU; Granada with 28, none in ICU; Almeria, with 24, one in ICU; Cordoba, with 21 and two in ICU and Huelva, with 18, none in ICU.
– With regard to the current average incidence of infection in Andalusia in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this has fallen to 108.43 points per 100,000 inhabitants, 9.24 points less than three days ago. SPAIN

NEW LAWS: What changes in Spain in September 2022?:
– Spain’s energy saving law comes into effect. In a bid to save energy, Spain’s government recently announced a whole host of energy saving measures that come into force from September. Under the government decree, air conditioning must be turned down and set at no lower than 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 degrees Fahrenheit) during the warmest months of the year, in rules affecting everything from public transport to shops, offices, theatres and cinemas. The legislation also affects heating in winter, when temperatures can be set no higher than 19C. The decree also requires that from 10:00 pm, shops switch off window-display lighting in a move also affecting the illumination of public buildings.
– Sexual consent law. Known as the “Only yes means yes” law, Spain is to tighten its sexual consent laws with a bill that was given the green light by parliament on August 25th with 205 votes in favour and 141 against, meaning it will be in force in September 2022. It involves a reform of Spain’s criminal code that now defines rape as sex without clear consent. “Consent is recognised only when a person has freely demonstrated it through actions which, in the context of the circumstances of the case, clearly express the person’s will,” it says.
Until now, rape victims needed to prove that they had been subjected to violence or intimidation. The new law also tightens the rules on street harassment, expands emotional and sexual education in schools and strengthens protection and compensation for victims of sexual violence.
– Migrant workers law set for approval. Spain has amended its immigration laws to make it easier for non-EU citizens (UK nationals, Americans etc) to work in the country in a bid to address some of its most pressing labour shortages. The changes will, the government hopes, come into force from September and help resolve some of the bureaucratic obstacles which often prevent Spain from using its migrant population to cover labour shortages. There are three main changes:
*Undocumented third-country nationals who have lived in Spain for two years or more can seek temporary residency papers.
*Non-EU students will be able to work up to 30 hours a week while studying, and to start work in Spain at the end of their studies.
*Non-EU nationals will be able to obtain a work visa to come to Spain more easily and take up jobs in areas facing labour shortages i.e. tourism, construction, agriculture.
– Insolvency law changes. On August 25th, the Spanish Congress of Deputies approved a change of rules for the country’s insolvency laws. The approved reform seeks to streamline the bankruptcy process for small businesses and self-employed workers in Spain, detect potential bankruptcy earlier and offer alternatives to the liquidation of companies. The government also wants the requirements to be in line with the rest of the European Union’s rules. In essence, when a company in Spain is experiencing financial difficulties, even if there is no immediate risk of insolvency, it may request an early restructuring in order to avoid a progressive deterioration of its assets, and its creditors will not be able to file for bankruptcy. The changes, which will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official State Gazette (in mid September), likely came too late to stop a flurry of bankruptcy applications as Spain’s Covid bankruptcy moratorium ended two months ago.
– Update on deal for UK licence holders in Spain? Will September be the month when UK licence holders residing in Spain are finally allowed to exchange their permits for Spanish ones and get back on the road? Don’t hold your breath. The UK Embassy in Madrid has not provided affected drivers with an update since August 12th, which in any case didn’t offer any new information. August is after all a holiday month when not many official matters get finalised in Spain, but even when Spain’s bureaucratic army of civil servants are back at the office, things tend to go slowly. ANDALUCIA

The BOE announces the auction of more than a hundred of properties in Andalusia: {Translation}
– For those people who want to buy a property, the auctions of the State Agency of the Official State Gazette (BOE) may be an opportunity. These are properties that have been expropriated or that the owners are no longer able to pay for and they are put up for auction at a much reduced price.
– Anyone can participate in the auction. All you have to do is register on the BOE’s electronic auction portal and make a minimum deposit through your bank account to ensure that you are not bidding for nothing, but with a real intention to buy.
***Where are properties auctioned in Andalusia?***
– In Andalusia there are more than a hundred properties available, including homes, plots of land, commercial premises and high-end cars, with Almeria, Granada, Malaga and Seville as the main destination provinces:
Almeria: 23
Cadiz: 9
Cordoba: 3
Granada: 20
Huelva: 4
Jaen: 3
Malaga: 22
Seville: 17
– In Almeria (23) we can find a couple of properties from 7,655.78 euros, located in CL/ Del Ingenio, 55 and CL/Mariana Pineda 5 or a detached house in La Mojonera (Almeria), with a value of 238,171.00 euros auctioned from 134,710.93 euros.
– In Cádiz (9) there are some properties in Arcos or Algeciras, under 60,000 euros, and in Córdoba (3) a house is available in CL/Escritor Carrillo Laso, 8B, from 6,457.74 euros.
– There is a greater offer in Granada (20), where garages, storerooms and rustic properties predominate. As far as properties are concerned, there is a detached single-family house in Armilla within the Urbanisation El Mexuar, with three floors, covered terrace and turret with a total usable area of 194 square metres, valued at 230,414.00 euros, while the amount claimed is 185,852.84 euros.
– In Huelva (4) and Jaén there is little supply. Just a couple of assets in Puebla de Guzmán and a rustic property in Isla Cristina, in the case of the land in Huelva, and two garages and a detached house in Torredonjimeno, if we are interested in acquiring in Jaén (3).
– In Malaga (22) there is a wide range of storage rooms and parking spaces, and several properties in Benahavís, where the most expensive house in Spain is located, stand out. Specifically in Urbanización El Paraíso, where flats valued at between 200,000 and 340,000 euros are available at half price.
– Finally, in Seville (17) there is also a proliferation of garages, especially in the town of Fuentes de Andalucía, and a lot of seventeen properties in Sanlúcar la Mayor, valued at almost 17 million euros, stands out for its high value, but will be awarded independently.

MALAGA

Some People Prefer Fresh Water To The Costa Beaches- The most spectacular pools and natural pools in the province of Malaga: {Translation}
– The province has several ponds, mostly concentrated in the Costa del Sol and the Serranía de Ronda, where you can take a dip. To reach some of them you need to follow a hiking route, but every effort has its reward, and at the end of the route you will find these spectacular spots where you can enjoy the last few weeks of summer with your family or friends.
1. Charco Frío (Benaoján): It is probably one of the most beautiful natural spaces in the province. In the natural park of the Sierra de Grazalema is the Charco Frío, right at the foot of the Cueva del Gato. It is forbidden to enter it, but the pool alone is worth the visit. The temperature of the water lives up to its name and the central area is the deepest. The site was declared a Natural Monument of Andalusia in 2011.

2. Charcos del Infierno y la Paloma (Casares): From the emblematic Baños de Hedionda, a path runs parallel to the course of the Manilva river, leading to the puddle of El Infierno, a pool embedded in a ravine that causes the river to cascade into several waterfalls. Access is somewhat difficult, which is why it is not as crowded as other sites. On the way between the baths and the Charco del Infierno you will also find the pool of La Paloma, where the water has carved a channel in the rocky wall.

3. El Chorro: A real classic. The Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, originally called the Chorro reservoir, not only supplies water to the province. It has become a major attraction for bathing and water sports. It is the only reservoir, together with La Viñuela, with areas that are officially suitable for bathing, and it also has the added attraction of being very close to the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, where the popular Caminito del Rey (King’s Little Path) is located.

4. Charco de las Viñas (Ojén): Very close to the cemetery of Ojén is the pool of Las Viñas, which for decades has been used as a municipal swimming pool. The spot is thanks to the river Tejar, a tributary of the river Real, and the best thing about it is that it is easily accessible from the village by walking down some steps next to the cemetery.

5. Río Turón (El Burgo): The river Turón forms some unique pools as it passes through Ardales, but it is closer to El Burgo where it leaves some extraordinary images that the residents of the nearby villages have enjoyed for decades. The Largo del Dique pool is ideal for swimming, although the water temperature is quite cold. The vegetation of this enclave in the Sierra de las Nieves creates some shady areas in which to spend the day.

6. Charco del Canalón (Istán): The artificial waterfall created by an irrigation channel makes the Charco del Canalón a very popular spot during the summer season. Located in the municipality of Istán, it forms part of the course of the Verde river, which covers the stones with green mould, making it difficult to walk without slipping. The pool is quite deep and the rocks on the shore are perfect for sitting on.

7. Charca de las Nutrias (Estepona): The river Castor, which rises in Sierra Bermeja, leaves a beautiful pool of clear water known as Charca de las Nutrias (Otter Pond) as it passes through the municipality of Estepona. To get there you have to walk along part of the course of the river and a dirt track that is closed to traffic. A small sacrifice to enjoy the surroundings. Its main attractions are its size and the fact that it has a small beach where you can rest after the walk.

8. Pozas del Padrón (Estepona): Also in Estepona, the Padrón River leaves a dream postcard. The crystal-clear waters of the Charca de la Extranjera reflect the intense green of the surrounding vegetation, which also provides shade in some spots. You can get there by car until you reach an esplanade where you can park. From this point, a path leads to the riverbed and up several metres to the pond.

F1 News- Verstappen, Leclerc and more set for Belgian Grand Prix grid penalties after power unit changes:
– Verstappen, Leclerc, McLaren’s Lando Norris, Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, Haas’s Mick Schumacher and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas will all be required to start from the back of the grid after their teams opted to make the changes at a Spa track where overtaking is traditionally more feasible than at certain other circuits.
– The penalties will shake up the championship fight between Leclerc and Verstappen nicely, leaving both title protagonists to duke it out from the back of the Spa grid – while Mercedes will hope that the removal of the front-runners might open up the chance for them to claim their first victory in 2022. Full article: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.verstappen-leclerc-and-more-set-for-belgian-grand-prix-grid-penalties-after.2XnehWp6I29AdvqnTeyF8P.html

TECH

This Is Why Password Manager Apps are a Bad Idea- Hackers Breach “LastPass” Developer System to Steal Source Code:
– “An unauthorized party gained access to portions of the LastPass development environment through a single compromised developer account and took portions of source code and some proprietary LastPass technical information,” LastPass CEO Karim Toubba said.
Amidst ongoing investigation into the incident, the company said it has engaged the services of a leading cybersecurity and forensics firm and that it has implemented additional countermeasures.
– While LastPass claims no customer data or encrypted passwords were accessed, that is impossible to confirm when the source code has been comprimised. It will take months for them to complete a full forensic analysis of the attack, and only after that will they know the full extent of the damage done.
– There are no recommended actions for LastPass users to take at this time.

ENERGY CRISIS

Fleet of hydrogen powered passenger trains begins service in Germany: The 14 trains use hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity that powers the engines. The German government has backed expanding the use of hydrogen as a clean alternative to fossil fuels.
Alstom says the Coradia iLint trains have a range of up to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) and a maximum speed of 140 kph (87 mph). By using hydrogen produced with renewable energy the trains will save 1.6 million liters (more than 422,000 gallons) of diesel fuel a year.

Scientists discover material capable of ‘thinking’:
– The technology is based on the same methods as used in integrated circuits, which typically rely on silicon semiconductors in order to process information in a way that is similar to the role played by the brain in the human body.
– The research team discovered that integrated circuits capable of performing computational tasks could be achieved using “nearly any material” around us.
– “We have created the first example of an engineering material that can simultaneously sense, think and act upon mechanical stress, without requiring additional circuits to process such signals,” said Ryan Harne, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State. “The soft polymer material acts like a brain that can receive digital strings of information that are then processed, resulting in new sequences of digital information that can control reactions.” Full article: https://currently.att.yahoo.com/att/scientists-discover-material-capable-thinking-150049550.html

Mad Cool’s Andalucía Big Festival: 8 to 10 September
At Malaga’s Cortijo de Torres fairground. The festival will take place in the fairground and not on Sacaba Beach as originally planned.
Three stages and a big wheel ride which will provide a completely different way of seeing and listening to the performers.
The organisers have also said they will soon be announcing the act which will headline along with Jamiroquai and Muse, replacing Rage Against the Machine, who had to cancel their European tour.
The situation at the moment is that the headline acts will be Muse and Jamiroquai (this is the only concert in Europe for the latter), and there will be around 50 other performers including Years&Years, Biffy Clyro, Nova Twins, Michael Kiwanuka, Paolo Nutini, Stereophonics, Run the Jewwls, Vetusta Morla, Los Planetas, Sylvie Kreusch, Morgan, 091 and María José Llergó.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

Europe reaches the 16,750 cases of monkey pox, with Spain as a leader with 6,119: {Translation, summary} 23/08/2022 17:47
– European countries have reported a total of 16,750 confirmed cases of monkeypox as of 22 August, with Spain leading the way (6,119), according to data released Tuesday by the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC).
– Behind Spain are Germany (3,295), France (2,889), the Netherlands (1. 090), Portugal (810), Italy (689), Belgium (624), Austria (218), Denmark (169), Sweden (141), Poland (116), Ireland (113), Norway (76), Hungary (63), Greece (52), Luxembourg (45), Slovenia (43), Czech Republic (39), Romania (34), Malta (31), Croatia (22), Finland (22), Iceland (12), Slovakia (12), Estonia (9), Lithuania (5), Bulgaria (4), Cyprus (4) and Latvia (4).
– Since the start of the monkeypox outbreak and as of 18 August, the following Western Balkan countries have reported confirmed monkeypox cases: Serbia (31), Bosnia and Herzegovina (3) and Montenegro (1). In addition, five cases have been reported in Turkey.
– In the current outbreak in non-endemic countries, cases continue to be identified mainly among groups of men who have sex with men (MSM) aged 18-50 years.
– According to the ECDC’s latest risk assessment, the likelihood of monkeypox spreading in networks of people with multiple sexual partners in the EU is considered “high” and the likelihood of it spreading among the general population is considered “very low”.
– The ECDC explains that although some severe cases (including encephalitis) have been reported recently, the impact of the disease “remains low in most cases”. The overall risk is therefore assessed as “moderate” for people with multiple sexual partners (including some MSM groups) and low for the general population. SPAIN

The price of electricity in Spain soars to another record high, 436.25 euros/MWh: {Translation, summary} 24/08/2022 09:41
– The average price of electricity for regulated tariff customers linked to the wholesale market will rise again this Wednesday, with an increase of 19.4% compared to yesterday, to 436.25 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), thus registering a new maximum since the gas cap came into force.
– In the absence of the ‘Iberian exception’ mechanism to cap the price of gas for electricity generation, the price of electricity in Spain would average around 502.11 euros/MWh, which is around 65.86 euros/MWh more than with the compensation for regulated tariff customers, who will thus pay 15% less on average.
– Electricity market prices for Wednesday in other European countries are also at record highs. In the case of France it is above 645 euros/MWh, while in Germany it is over 624 euros/MWh and in Belgium it is over 611 euros/MWh. EUROPE

MEPs Set to Adopt New Laws to ‘Improve’ Lives of Europeans:
– According to the Parliament, the EU will adopt new laws on energy security, gender equality, and artificial intelligence, among others, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– In her third State of the Union address, the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to outline the main priorities and challenges for the next 12 months. Moreover, in the debate that will take place in Strasbourg on September 14, MEPs will scrutinize the Commission’s work over the past year and make sure that the main concerns of Europeans are addressed.
– The Parliament explains that energy security has emerged as a major concern since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has led to a sharp jump in oil and gas prices across Europe. Taking into account such a situation, the Parliament is expected to vote on measures that aim to reduce the reliance of the EU on Russian fossil fuels and increase the production of green energy.
– Additionally, the first EU legislation on adequate minimum wages is also set to be adopted by the Parliament in September. The law requires EU countries to make sure that their national statutory minimum wage allows for a decent standard of living. Macron warned the French on Wednesday of tough months ahead as the world faces “the end of abundance”, meanwhile the cap on French energy prices will soon end: After a summer of drought, massive wildfires and war in Ukraine, the 44-year-old Macron delivered a stark speech at the start of the first cabinet meeting after the country’s traditional August holiday break. “I believe that we are in the process of living through a tipping point or great upheaval. Firstly because we are living through… what could seem like the end of abundance,” he said. “I believe that what we are going through is rather a big shift, a big change,” Macron said, urging his ministers to be ambitious and for the French to face this new reality. “The moment we are living … may seem to be structured by a series of crises, each more serious than the other,” Macron said, referring to the drought, fires and storms that have hit France during the summer as well as the Ukraine war and disruptions to global trade. “Freedom has a cost,” Macron said, referring to the war in Ukraine. ENERGY CRISIS

PP Opposes Proposed New Energy Bill Due To Be Voted On Today: {Translation}
– The PP has demanded this Wednesday that Spain’s Government negotiate another decree law with energy saving measures and separately approve another new one with the planned aid for transport and study grants already contained in the decree law to be voted on Thursday, which it has called to “paralyse”.
– In a press conference in the Lower House, its parliamentary spokeswoman, Cuca Gamarra, has justified the rejection of the ‘popular’ on Thursday to the decree of energy saving to be a plan “approved unilaterally” and that “represents an imposition”. “They are not recommendations, but obligations,” she lamented.
– Therefore, he has demanded to rethink the energy saving measures, negotiate them with traders – “the main affected”, he said -, the autonomous communities and the opposition, and approve another decree law with the aid provided for in the decree, which they do endorse, and they call to extend with others to road transport.
– With regard to what should change in the energy saving plan to comply with the European Commission’s ruling in the context of the crisis unleashed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Gamarra has opted for Spain to achieve a reduction in its consumption through recommendations rather than obligations, such as those contained in the decree for air conditioning temperature or street lighting.
– “There is a huge difference between imposing something and recommending it”, she argued, assuring that “Spaniards are responsible and aware” and that therefore “they will accept this recommendation if it is compatible with the exercise of their economic activity”.
– The PP parliamentary spokeswoman regretted that these measures, which affect businesses in terms of opening hours or “additional costs simply to open the door”, have been “imposed” without prior dialogue, which is why she has demanded that they be reconsidered and other measures be approved after negotiation. TECH

Facebook experienced bizarre bug Wednesday morning that filled user feeds with endless posts from celebrity accounts: {It happened to me too. My timeline was filled with posts about about some heavy metal musician I never heard of, who had died. The posts were from a variety of pages I had never even visited. -Ed.}
– Multiple Verge staffers who attempted to use the social media network experienced the same issue, where their main News Feed was flooded with minor posts sent to pages for artists like Lady Gaga, Nirvana, and The Beatles. As of 5:15AM ET the issue appears to have been resolved after creating three hours of chaos.
– Writing on Twitter, Meta spokesperson Alexandru Voica blamed an unspecified “configuration change” for the problem, and said it had since been resolved.
– Although it didn’t appear to be an outage in the traditional sense, users took to Downdetector to report problems starting at just before 2:00AM ET. However, a status dashboard for Meta didn’t report any issues through the period. A representative from Meta did not immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment. Full article:

One of the world’s largest megalithic concentrations discovered in Spain:
– Archaeologists describe the finding as ‘unique.’ It includes the discovery of 526 menhirs, or standing stones, from between the sixth and third millennia BC.
– Three megalithic sites have subsequently been discovered. The stone monuments were likely constructed for the purpose of monitoring the growing seasons and observing astronomical events. Experts from the universities of Huelva and Alcalá de Henares noted that the massive complex began to be erected at the end of the sixth millennium BC and stood for almost 3,000 years. Andalusia records 271 active cases of monkeypox, with 89 under investigation: {Translation} 23/08/2022 13:20
– Andalusia maintains, for the moment, a total of 271 active cases of monkeypox, which means 33 less than last Friday (304), and has another 89 cases under investigation. In addition, 443 people have already been vaccinated because they have been at-risk contacts of patients who have tested positive for the disease.
– Thus, in the statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs specifies that the province with the most cases is Seville, with a total of 106, followed by Malaga, with 76; Cadiz, with 32; Huelva, with 19; Granada, with 16; Cordoba, with 16; three in Almeria and three in Jaen.

All the vaccines have been given as a preventive measure – to people who have been in contact with infected people or people at risk – but not to infected patients. UGT asks for an increase in the minimum wage: A minimum interprofessional salary (SMI) of 1,100 euros per month, 10% more than today, is requested by the general secretary of the UGT, Pepe Álvarez this Monday. The union leader has pointed out that, due to high inflation, this year we should go to a minimum wage in the terms in which inflation is, that is, at 10%. “Place the SMI at those 1,100 euros”, Álvarez stated in a statement to the media. Anti-Logic at work- Authorities Claim A Tourist Tax Will Not Reduce Tourism?:
– These officials seem to forget the whole reason Costa del Sol is (was) so popular, is exactly because it was inexpensive compared to other destinations. There have been modest price increases for tourism related items recently, and that has surely driven away some budget-minded tourists, but many tourists understand the situation, so are willing to pay a bit more. Now officials want to further aggravate that situation by making local tourism even more expensive for visitors with a new tax? The tourism sector is still struggling to recover from Covid, and they are doing their best to hold tourism prices steady despite soaring inflation, to attract the tourists they are desperate for. These officials are convinced a new tax will not hurt tourist numbers? What if they are wrong? They provide zero evidence supporting their position. Sevillian Socialist anti-logic at its finest. No wonder they got hammered in the recent Andalucian elections. See next article for more opposition views. -Ed.
– The mayors of Malaga and Seville are both in favour of a tourist tax in their cities. They have both said they are in favour of the idea of a tourist tax for visitors who stay overnight, because it would help to finance the public services they provide and the work they do on promotion. “This is something that Seville council has been suggesting for the past seven years, because we are convinced that it will not reduce the amount of tourism and would provide income which can be used to improve public services and promotion.”

Andalusian hoteliers point out “the absolute ignorance” of the tourist tax: {Translation}
– The Andalusian hoteliers have indicated this Tuesday their opposition to the tourist tax, a measure that, by taxing the cost of overnight stays, they consider as a possible “handicap” for them.
– This was stated by the secretary general of the Andalusian Federation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (Fahat), Rafael Barba, after the meeting this weekend between the mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, and the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, to address various issues concerning their cities and in which the issue of the tourist tax arose, a matter on which the Malaga councillor said that it is “positive, as long as there is consensus with the sector”.
– In this sense, Barba pointed out that what the federation currently knows about the measure are “rumours”, as they have not received “any paper with the ideas”.
– On this measure, which according to him is “a new occurrence that has to do with the heat of the tourist season”, he said that the hotel sector is in a “situation of absolute ignorance”, as they do not know “what method it has, its amount or how the money raised is going to be invested”, among other issues.
– Barba also pointed out that the name of the proposal, ‘tourist tax’, is “a euphemism”, as they do not agree that it can be called a ‘tax’, as they consider it to be “a tax that only affects one activity”, nor do they consider the term ‘tourist’ to be approved, as they believe that “tourism covers a wide range of sectors and this measure only affects one of them – the hotel sector”.
– “What experience tells us is that in the end this income goes into the council’s coffers, which is why one becomes defensive, and even more so if there is no information about it,” he added. The secretary general specified that they fear that “everything will go to the chapter of the single coffers” and that “it will be very difficult to know what the real return on this supposed tax is”.
– Finally, the president of Fahat asked for “concreteness” about this proposal and “to call a spade a spade”, as “this is just another tax, with an obvious desire to collect money”. UK inflation to top 18% as gas prices soar, banking giant Citi forecasts:
– The spiraling rate will tighten the squeeze on households already wrestling with the deepening cost of living crisis and ramp up pressure on the central bank to take firmer action in a bid to curb runaway prices.
– UK inflation is set to top 18% in January – the highest point in more than 40 years and nine times the Bank of England’s target – due to rocketing wholesale gas prices, a global investment bank has forecast.
– Citi has predicted the retail energy price cap would surge to £4,567 in January and then £5,816 in April, compared with the current level of £1,971 a year, according to reports. The price of electricity in Spain soars on Tuesday to 365.33 euros/MWh, its highest level since the Iberian exception: {Translation, summary}
– This will be the highest level since the so-called “Iberian exception” came into force in mid-June, and the price of 360 euros/MWh will be exceeded for the first time, including the compensation to gas companies.
– This increase in the price of electricity comes at a time when the price of TTF gas in Holland, the European market benchmark, is at a record high, with futures for September trading on Monday at a new high of almost 290 euros/MWh, after registering a rise of more than 18%.
– In the absence of the ‘Iberian exception’ mechanism to cap the price of gas for electricity generation, the price of electricity in Spain would be on average around 476.76 euros/MWh, which is around 111.43 euros/MWh more than with the compensation for regulated tariff customers, who will thus pay 23.37% less on average.
– The ‘Iberian mechanism’, which came into force on 15 June, limits the price of gas for electricity generation to an average of 48.8 euros per MWh for a period of twelve months, thus covering the coming winter, a period when energy prices are more expensive.

Europe braces for more cuts in Russian oil and gas exports: Europe faces fresh disruption to energy supplies due to damage to a pipeline system that brings oil from Kazakhstan through Russia, the pipeline operator said on Monday, adding to concerns over a plunge in gas supplies that could drive consumer prices much higher.
– CPC, which handles about 1% of global oil and whose largest shareholder is Russian pipeline firm Transneft, said exports from two of its three mooring points at a Black Sea terminal had been suspended, confirming a Reuters report.
– CPC said it had to suspend loadings from its SPM-1 and SPM-2 mooring points due to damage at “the attachment points of underwater sleeves to buoyancy tanks”. It said loadings were only being processed from SPM-3 and so oil loading requests would have to be reduced. The PP will vote against the energy saving decree if the government does not correct it this Tuesday: {Translation}
– The general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has announced that his party will vote this Thursday against the decree law on energy saving unless this Tuesday, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Government corrects it and eliminates what it considers to be “frivolities”.
– In a press conference at the PP headquarters, Bendodo has indicated that the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, two days before the vote in Congress, is a “magnificent opportunity” to correct the decree law and eliminate issues such as turning off shop windows or reducing air conditioning, which he defines as “frivolities”, and to add issues such as transport subsidies. “If the government withdraws all the frivolous measures, if it opts for protection and road transport aid, we will vote in favour; but if not, we will vote against,” he said.

FINANCIAL

European stock markets close in red due to the risk of recession and the dollar once again exceeds the euro: The European weakness is reflected in the value of its currency, since the dollar once again surpassed the euro, as had already happened last July, although this time the difference represents the lowest level of the European currency in 20 years , placing its value at 0.9951 ‘greenbacks’.
