– Although the joy was short-lived, this Friday it rained for the first time in Malaga with a more or less acceptable intensity. We have had to wait until mid-November for this and although the weather forecast is for more rain until six o’clock in the afternoon, for the moment the balance has left only 19 litres in the interior of the province and hardly any water in the reservoirs. In short: more ado about nothing.
– The highest accumulated rainfall reported by the Hidrosur network – with data updated at 12:00 noon – has been recorded in the Serranía de Ronda, where Cañete la Real stands out, with 19 litres per square metre; the Majada de las Lomas station (Cortes de la Frontera) with 16 litres, and Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja (in the Estepona mountains), with 14.3 litres.
– Other inland areas have also seen rainfall of more than ten litres in the last twelve hours. This is the case of Cuevas del Becerro, with 12 litres per square metre, or Pujerra, with 11.6. In Ronda there have been 11 litres and in El Torcal de Antequera 10.5.

Pet-friendly cabins, tapas and boutique shops- Onboard the new ferry from Ireland to Spain: A new “cruise-ferry” will begin sailing directly from Ireland to Spain twice a week. Brittany Ferries announced the launch of the ship which will take travellers from the southeast tip of Rosslare to Bilbao. The Salamanca will be able to carry over 1,000 passengers from the Europort. The ferry will accept bikes, foot passengers and dogs on the crossing.
– The 214.5 metre-long ferry will take over the direct route from Rosslare to Bilbao twice a week. It will depart on Wednesday and Friday mornings. The crossings will take between 29 and 30 hours and passengers will spend one to two nights on board. Passengers are required to book a seat, starting at €12 each way, or a cabin. A bed in a four-berth cabin costs from €135 each way this month. The price for a one-way ticket for two passengers and a car will reportedly cost from €232. This includes reclining seats. In addition, the councillor pointed out that the town hall has also improved the gardens, updated the benches, bins and street lighting and the access gates.

Vélez-Málaga demands ‘urgent solution’ for Torre del Mar shanty houses:
– The Casillas de la Vía shanty houses at the entrance to Torre del Mar on the N-340 road, near Mercadona and the land used for the Weekend Beach music festival, are the last of their kind in the Axarquía. The houses are home to more than a hundred people, from children to elderly people who live without proper connection to running water, sewage or electricity.
– After several decades of unfulfilled promises and failed attempts, Vélez-Málaga town hall has once again demanded that the Junta de Andalucía, as owner of the land where the houses are located, provide an “urgent solution” for the families that live there. Rincón de la Victoria, first municipality to sign an agreement with the College of Veterinarians for the control of cat colonies: {Translation}
– The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), and the president of the Malaga Veterinary Association, Juan Antonio de Luque, have proceeded this morning to sign the first collaboration agreement for the identification, vaccination and registration of feral cats.
– This is the first document signed by a municipality at provincial level with the college in view of the need to locate the number of cat colonies and feeding points, register, sterilise their specimens and carry out the compulsory treatments with the aim of preventing health problems, as well as the uncontrolled proliferation of wild and stray cats in the municipality.
– Salado has valued this agreement “as an improvement in the sanitary conditions of the animals and their environment, which will have a positive impact on the health of the citizens and the image of the municipality”.
– The councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Mª Carmen Cañizares (PMP), explained that through this agreement “we can have the RAIA database of cat colonies registered, with an updated census of the animals, which will facilitate the ethical management of animals in our municipality”.
– For his part, Juan Antonio de Luque pointed out that “with this initiative Rincón de la Victoria is ahead of the approval of the future Animal Welfare Law, being a pioneer with the signing of this agreement which will be followed by other municipalities in the province”.
– This agreement, which has a duration of four years, does not involve any cost for the town hall and the citizens. The school will provide microchips, vaccinations and registration with the RAIA of all the animals that make up the authorised cat colonies.
– Last year, Rincón de la Victoria renewed the collaboration agreement with the Malaga College of Veterinary Surgeons for the direct registration of pets in the Municipal Register of Companion Animals, thus saving the citizens the paperwork and expenses involved in the Andalusian Animal Identification Register (RAIA).

According to a Facebook post by the organisation on Monday, November 14 the new signage will be rolled out during 2023.

These are all the bonuses available to large families in Andalusia: {Translation} 14/11/2022. 14:49h.
– Large families, who have a significant amount of expenses associated with raising children, have a number of rights and benefits aimed at facilitating this work. This group will increase in 2023, as single-parent families with two dependent children will be considered large families under the new Families Act agreed by the Spanish Government.
– To accredit the status of large family there is an individual card, which is issued to all members of the family unit who are beneficiaries and are over 14 years of age. It can also be obtained by minors under this age who request it. This document is valid throughout the national territory, accompanied by the DNI, NIE or other document that identifies the holder. However, it must be recognised, processed and renewed at the administration of the Autonomous Community.

– The Junta de Andalucía lists the different areas of public administration in which large families can obtain exemptions or price reductions in the autonomous community. They are the following:

Repsol increases the discount in the price of gasoline and diesel to 39 cents per litre, how to get the discount: {Translation}

According to a paper published on November 14 in the journal Nature Physics, researchers at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory discovered that when deuterium and tritium ions, which are isotopes of hydrogen with one and two neutrons, respectively—are heated using lasers during laser-fusion experiments, there are more ions with higher energies than expected when a thermonuclear burn starts. When Did Cooking Food Begin? Evidence of fish cooked 780,000 years ago: {Translation}
– Examination of the remains of a huge 2-metre carp marks the earliest signs of cooking by prehistoric humans 780,000 years ago, predating available data by some 600,000 years.
– The remains were recovered from the Gesher Benot Ya’aqov (GBY) archaeological site in Israel and show that the fish was cooked approximately 780,000 years ago. Cooking is defined as the ability to process food by controlling the temperature at which it is heated and includes a wide range of methods.
– So far, the earliest evidence of cooking dates back to about 170,000 years ago. The question of when early humans began using fire for cooking has been the subject of much scientific discussion for more than a century. These findings shed new light on the issue and are published in Nature Ecology and Evolution.
– Dr Irit Zohar of Tel Aviv University and Dr Marion Prevost of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, lead authors of the research, say: “This study demonstrates the great importance of fish in the lives of prehistoric humans, for their diet and economic stability. In addition, by studying the fish remains found at Gesher Benot Ya’aqob we were able to reconstruct, for the first time, the fish population of ancient Lake Hula and show that the lake was home to fish species that became extinct over time.”
– “These species included giant barbs (carp like fish) that were up to 2 metres long. The large quantity of fish remains found at the site demonstrates their frequent consumption by early humans, who developed special cooking techniques. These new findings demonstrate not only the importance of freshwater habitats and the fish they contained to prehistoric human sustenance, but also illustrate the ability of prehistoric humans to control fire for cooking food, and their understanding of the benefits of cooking fish before eating them.
– In the study, the researchers focused on pharyngeal teeth (used for grinding hard foods such as shells) belonging to fish of the carp family. These teeth were found in large quantities in different archaeological strata at the site. By studying the structure of the crystals that form the enamel of the teeth (whose size increases with exposure to heat), the researchers were able to prove that the fish caught in ancient Lake Hula, adjacent to the site, were exposed to temperatures suitable for cooking, and were not simply burned by a spontaneous fire.
– Until now, evidence of the use of fire for cooking has been limited to sites that began to be used much later than the GBY site, around 600,000 years ago, and most are associated with the emergence of our own species, homo sapiens.
– Another author, Professor Naama Goren-Inbar of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, added: “The fact that fish cooking is evident over such a long and uninterrupted period of settlement at the site indicates a continuous tradition of cooking food. This is another in a series of discoveries related to high levels of cognitive ability of the Acheulean hunter-gatherers who were active in the ancient Hula Valley region.”
– “These groups were deeply familiar with their environment and the various resources it offered them. Furthermore, it shows that they had extensive knowledge of the life cycles of different plant and animal species. Acquiring the ability to cook food marks a significant evolutionary advance, as it provided an additional means of making optimal use of available food resources. It is even possible that cooking was not limited to fish, but also included various types of animals and plants”.
– The authors point out that the transition from eating raw food to eating cooked food had dramatic implications for human development and behaviour. Eating cooked food reduces the body energy required to break down and digest food, allowing other physical systems to develop. It also leads to changes in the structure of the human jaw and skull.
– This change freed humans from the daily, labour-intensive work of foraging and digesting raw food, giving them free time to develop new social and behavioural systems. Some scientists see fish consumption as a milestone in the quantum leap in human life. Photo is a recovered ancient carp skull.

Hundreds of thousands rally in defence of Madrid public healthcare:

Critical situation of La Viñuela reservoir and no water supply from Malaga from December onwards: {Translation} 12Nov22
– Since the start of the hydrological year on 1 October, the La Viñuela reservoir has only collected 0.70 millimetres of rainwater. It is close to its historic minimum with 15.65 cubic hectometres and at 9.52% of its total capacity. To make matters worse, La Axarquía will stop receiving water from Málaga between December this year and March next year due to the extension work on the Atabal desalination plant. Alert of increase in scams selling tickets online during the 2022: {Translation, summary}
– Cybersecurity software company ESET has warned of an increase in online ticketing scams so far this year, which it has found have risen by more than a fifth since last year, according to its research.
– ESET is urging caution especially when buying tickets for festivals or concerts. Following the pandemic, the demand for tickets to such events has skyrocketed and with it the resale of these products on secondary markets and social networks.

– ESET recommends not photographing tickets or publishing them on the Internet as proof of their existence for a possible sale, not even with the QR or barcode crossed out. Here Come The Surveillance Drones – Local Police of Malaga close contracts for the acquisition of drones: {Translation}
– The Malaga Local Police expects to have specific drone equipment by the end of this year. In fact, contracts have already been signed for the purchase of the drones, according to the councillor for Public Safety, Avelino Barrionuevo, who told this newspaper.

– The law published in August included all these demands but, according to the platform, it is not being complied with. The situation is “practically” as it was in March, said spokesman Manuel Hernández on leaving the meeting, which is why he urgently requested “a formal inspection plan that guarantees that the law will be enforced” by imposing “exemplary sanctions”.
– According to the ministry, the drafting of this plan is already underway and will be approved “in the coming weeks”. “It will include, for the first time, a specific line of action to control prices, late payments and loading and unloading, in accordance with the approved regulations,” the government said.

Spain’s DGT warning to drivers: failing to use your indicators correctly can result in a hefty fine:
– According to Spain’s Observatory of Behaviour on Motorways, 74% of drivers do not indicate before overtaking another vehicle and very few do so when changing lanes. Now the country’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has issued guidance about when indicators should be used, and how much failing to comply with the rules can cost.
– Many motorists are not sure about when to indicate on roundabouts, the DGT says, and it has confirmed that it is not necessary to indicate when approaching or driving around a roundabout. However, it is essential to indicate when changing lane or leaving the roundabout, to warn other drivers of their intentions.
– When spotting a traffic jam ahead, many drivers instantly put their hazard warning lights on, but the DGT does not recommend this. Instead, if a driver is about to brake sharply, it advises repeatedly pressing the brake instead to warn those behind. However, in this type of situation, the rules say that “a driver must warn others via optic signals if they are going to make any manoeuvre which involves moving sidewards or backwards, or if they intend to stop their vehicle or slow it down rapidly”. – Malaga police have, perhaps unintentionally, spilled the beans regarding 5G. The push to get 5G repeater towers installed has less to do with providing better services to computer and mobile users, and evidently it has more to do with authorities expanding their ability to monitor citizen activities.
– The police statement refers to the ability of a drone to send images not only directly to its controlling transmitter, but via local 5G towers, to any control device worldwide. That infers that the signals controlling the drone can do the same. After all, the data stream that carries video data is composed of the same binary zeros and ones that other digital data streams are composed of. The American military has long had the capability, as evidenced by its drone assassinations of terrorists in Afghanistan, of controlling drones from the home base in America, using satellites to carry the data. Now it seems the police want the same remote control abilities, and will use 5G rather than satellites as the data carrier. 5G is far easier and cheaper to deploy than satellite systems that require nation-state level tech and resources, allowing smaller organizations to get into the drone surveillance game.
