SPAIN
Malaga hauliers will join the national strike that will begin this Monday- aims to bring the country to a halt again:
{Translation} 13Nov22, 08:01
– On the eve of Black Friday and the start of the Christmas logistics campaign, the new transport strike called by the Platform in Defence of Transport seems to be moving forward. It will begin this Monday and will continue indefinitely “until we stop working at a loss”, said the platform’s spokesperson in Malaga, Marina Ramirez.
– After the hauliers’ strike in March, which collapsed Spain, the central government met with the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC) – which brings together the majority of hauliers’ organisations and with which the platform’s workers do not feel identified – to adopt some measures to improve the sector.
– These measures include a law to prevent hauliers from working at a loss, as well as a new package of 450 million in direct aid. These are in addition to those approved in 2021 and April 2022, such as the 20 cents discount on fuel, the ban on drivers loading and unloading, the limitation to one hour of waiting times in loading and unloading areas, the reinforcement of transport inspection and aid for leaving the profession.
– However, the platform denounces the non-fulfilment of some of these measures. They accuse the shippers – clients of the hauliers – of “taking advantage” and the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of disingenously deferring to the Guardia Civil and the Local Police on this issue. “Only the transport inspectorate can denounce the loaders and in Malaga there are two, it is unfeasible”, Ramirez denounces, while demanding an increase in the number of these workers.
– In the same way, says the spokesperson for the platform in the province, it happens with loading and unloading. “There are times when we arrive somewhere and they tell us that we have to unload, so you call the police and they refer you to the transport inspectorate, who tell you that you have to make an appointment to report it. An appointment takes a week, what do you do with the merchandise in the meantime”, questions Ramírez.
– Faced with these difficulties, the members of the platform have decided to resume the stoppages after holding a vote. In Malaga, the delegate assured that “a very high, if not absolute, percentage” was in favour of the strike.
– With the aim of bringing the country to a halt again and for the government to speed up a solution, the Platform in Defence of Transport has called for a demonstration to take place this Monday at 10:00 am at Atocha, in the centre of Madrid. “The transport workers from Malaga will also be there,” says Marina Ramírez. They will also be joined in the protest by representatives from other sectors such as agriculture, livestock and the hotel and catering industry, among others.
– “We have to raise our voices and make them feel that the situation of the hauliers has to be sorted out, we are gambling that they will finally be able to work in good conditions forever, or that we will return to the same old puddle, as is already happening,” they say.
– Once in Malaga, Ramírez says that they plan to continue with the mobilisations, although they do not yet have an established plan. “We have already asked for the permits and they have been granted, but we are trying to organise it so as not to hinder traffic too much”, he explains. It is worth remembering that during the strike in March, the hauliers blocked the accesses to the centre and to some industrial estates for days. Photo: Javier Albinana. MADRID
Hundreds of thousands rally in defence of Madrid public healthcare:
– At least 200,000 demonstrators rallied in Madrid on Sunday in defence of the region’s primary care, warning plans to overhaul the system would “destroy” local healthcare.
– The protest comes ahead of a planned strike by nearly 5,000 regional family doctors and paediatricians scheduled for November 21, due to “the overload of work, endless appointments and lack of time with patients.”
– They will join an earlier strike by medical staff over the new model for non-hospital emergency centres, which have seen some offering only video consultations due to a lack of staff. ANDALUCIA
Last Week Malaga Announced It’s New Surveillance Drone Force- Now Andalucia Announces It’s Own Surveillance Satellite:
{Translation, summary} 13/11/2022, 16:18
– The Andalusian regional government will collaborate with the business consortium that is promoting the design, manufacture and launch of the first Andalusian satellite, a private initiative that will be used for scientific purposes and is expected to be launched into space in 2025.
– According to the Regional Ministry of Research and Innovation, this space mission, called Alpha, has an “eminently” solidary character, as it aims to generate knowledge in the Andalusian region through cooperation between companies, universities and R&D centres and to share it for their vision of the improvement of society.
– The Regional Ministry assures that the information captured by the device will have different applications such as fire prevention, optimisation of water use in crops, vehicle traffic management or the measurement of economic activity in real time through, for example, the light intensity detected in towns. In this way, its practical applications could be multiple, with an impact on areas of activity such as agriculture, fisheries and marine and livestock resources; the environment, meteorology and climate change; renewable energies, geology, archaeology, astronomy or demography and urban planning.
– According to the Regional Ministry, the cooperation initiated by the Regional Government has enabled the consortium to connect with more than 360 research groups from Andalusian public universities and other public and private organisations based in the region to explore possible ways of working together, both in the design of the project and the definition of the technological load that will be incorporated into this spatial instrument, and in the final use of the information gathered by the system.
– The Alpha satellite, of the CubeSat type, will operate in LEO orbit and will have an estimated useful life of at least one year.
– The initiative aims to get Andalusian companies to join the space race, in a context in which the so-called “new space” industry is expanding and allows not only large companies or even governments to launch this infrastructure into space, but also smaller companies. AXARQUIA
Critical situation of La Viñuela reservoir and no water supply from Malaga from December onwards: {Translation} 12Nov22
– Since the start of the hydrological year on 1 October, the La Viñuela reservoir has only collected 0.70 millimetres of rainwater. It is close to its historic minimum with 15.65 cubic hectometres and at 9.52% of its total capacity. To make matters worse, La Axarquía will stop receiving water from Málaga between December this year and March next year due to the extension work on the Atabal desalination plant. The perfect storm, because there is no significant rainfall forecast on the horizon either.
– It was on 31 October 2008 when the historic minimum was recorded in the reservoir of La Viñuela. At that time it was at 9.2% and 15.20 cubic hectometres of water in the reservoir. If it continues without significant rain over the next few days, as is predicted, the dam will equal or even worsen those figures. According to Axaragua, it is necessary to continue drawing water from La Viñuela, although it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so, and to make it drinkable at the El Trapiche plant.
– Moreover, at least between December of this year and March of next year, the Axarquía will stop receiving water from the capital due to the works to increase the desalination capacity of the El Atabal plant. Even with everything going against it, the Junta de Andalucía continues to guarantee that human consumption will continue to be guaranteed for a year even if it does not rain. On the other hand, it’s expected that “within days” the wells of the Río Chíllar in Nerja will be able to begin to contribute “up to 80 litres per second” to the general system, once the tests that are being carried out have been completed.
– The same is not true in the countryside, since the Andalusian Government only contemplates recovering irrigation in La Axarquía if it rains in a year half the historical average of the last 15 years, that is, 215 litres (only 0.70 millimetres of rainwater have been collected in the last month and a half in the reservoir of La Viñuela).
– The Junta de Andalucía continues to defend that it will carry out water works in La Axarquía of almost 47 million in 2023. The emergency actions planned to counteract the drought in this region account for 73% of the funds earmarked for the province of Málaga. It insists that the region will have 31 hectometres of additional water in 2023, of which 19.4 cubic hectometres will be for irrigation.
– The Andalusian government says that the start of the connection of the tertiary treatment plant tertiaries of Rincón de la Victoria with the irrigation of Sector 8 of the Guaro Plan will involve an investment of about 15.3 million euros and will involve the installation of about 10 kilometres of pipelines to provide additional resources to farmers both in this municipality and in Vélez-Málaga.
– The Junta “is making an important effort with Malaga and Axarquia in terms of water to provide measures and solutions in the short, medium and long term, both for supply and irrigation, and six of the eight works that were included in the Drought Decree have already been completed,” he said. He is referring to the four tertiary ones (Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga and the two in Torrox), Río Chillar in Nerja, and the pumping from the La Rosaleda station in Málaga. Likewise, before the end of 2022, the tertiary treatment plants of the Algarrobo treatment plant will be completed and those of Peñón del Cuervo will be started, according to the Junta. Keith Levene, a founding member of The Clash and later guitarist for Public Image Ltd, has died from liver cancer aged 65: Levene founded The Clash with Mick Jones in the 1970s but left before they became successful. He then joined Public Image Ltd (PiL), the post-punk band set up by John Lydon after he left the Sex Pistols. During his time with The Clash, Levene played a central role in persuading frontman Joe Strummer to leave his then band, The 101ers, and join them. While with Public Image Ltd, Levene is credited with helping to pioneer an angular post-punk sound that is still regularly cited. Photo: Getty. Tennis News- ATP Finals 2022- Rafael Nadal loses to Taylor Fritz, Ruud beats Auger-Aliassime in Turin:
– Rafael Nadal’s latest bid to finally land the first ATP Finals title of his career started with a defeat by American eighth seed Taylor Fritz.
The 36-year-old Spaniard, runner-up in 2010 and 2013, lost 7-6 (7-3) 6-1. Fritz is making his debut at the season-ending event and his relentless returning was too much for Nadal.
– In the same group, Norwegian third seed Casper Ruud made a winning start with a 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 victory over Canada’s seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.
– Spain’s world number one Carlos Alcaraz withdrew because of injury, which led to first alternate Fritz taking his place.
– Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, aiming for a record-equalling sixth title, starts against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas on Monday, with Daniil Medvedev facing his fellow Russian Andrey Rublev in the other contest. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/63618380

SCAMS
Alert of increase in scams selling tickets online during the 2022: {Translation, summary}
– Cybersecurity software company ESET has warned of an increase in online ticketing scams so far this year, which it has found have risen by more than a fifth since last year, according to its research.
– ESET is urging caution especially when buying tickets for festivals or concerts. Following the pandemic, the demand for tickets to such events has skyrocketed and with it the resale of these products on secondary markets and social networks.
– To avoid these frauds ESET has advised customers to take certain precautionary measures when buying, for example, verify the identity of the seller or avoid buying on secondary markets.
– This represents “a lucrative opportunity for fraudsters” and although the scams are often “obvious” and with exaggerated prices, “we must learn to recognise them in order to avoid them”, ESET commented in a press release.
– The trend towards electronic rather than physical tickets exacerbates the problem as fraudsters can sell the same ticket multiple times on different online platforms, ESET said.
– “Not only could someone copy the barcode and go to the event with a printout, or a photo on their phone, but the only time victims will realise they have been scammed is when they arrive at the venue and, if they are not the first to enter, the ticket will not work.”
– ESET recommends not photographing tickets or publishing them on the Internet as proof of their existence for a possible sale, not even with the QR or barcode crossed out. According to Albors, it is “incredibly easy” to recreate the code and produce a copy. Revealed- the premium brands that brew the beer for Mercadona: {Translation}
– Under its brand, the Valencian chain sells various types, such as Clásica, Especial, Shandy, Radler and Suave, which are available on the supermarket shelves in two formats: bottle or can.
– However, it was not until very recently that it became known who the manufacturer of one of these types of beer is, Steinburg Mild (Suave), a discovery that has spread like wildfire on social networks and which many users cannot believe.
– Specifically, the manufacturer of the Mild Steinburg is none other than the renowned Belgian brewery Brouwerij Martens, a family business founded in 1758, which markets its beer under its own brand, as well as for other brands.
– “I find it incredible that such a cheap beer is Belgian, I don’t believe it,” some users commented on Twitter.
– Specifically, the 33 cl can of Steinburg Mild beer can be found in Mercadona for 0.25 euros each, cheaper than the Classic (0.26 euros/unit) or Steinburg Special (0.32 euros/unit).
– Steinburg Suave is the only variety of these beers from the Belgian brewer, as the rest of Steinburg’s beers are brewed in Spain by the Damm group, another important company in the sector, which has a plant in Font Salem (Valencia).
