Trick Me Once, Shame On You, Trick Me Twice, Not Happening This Time! Transport workers maintain the strike call after meeting with the disingenuous government and demand “a signed agreement with serious commitments”: {Translation}
– The meeting held this Thursday between the government, and the platform of hauliers who have called an indefinite strike from next Monday, has ended without an agreement between the parties, so that, according to Manuel Hernandez, spokesman for the Platform in Defence of Transport, “the strike continues”.
– The parties failed to reach agreement even on the nature of the meeting, which the Ministry of Transport described as “informative” and those calling the meeting as an “emergency meeting”. After the meeting, which lasted several hours, Hernández concluded that he will stick to his decision if the government does not present “a document with serious and signed commitments” before the end of Sunday.
– What the organisation is asking for, as the spokesman explained in broad terms, is a formal inspection plan that includes “exemplary sanctions” and “an increase in the number of inspectors on the road”, as well as the “elimination of the exemption of prolonged contracts”, which, according to Hernández, are a way of “evading the law”.
– The Ministry of Transport has urged the organisers of the transport employers’ strike to “reconsider” and call off the mobilisation because “it does not benefit anyone”, bearing in mind he said, but without offering any supporting proof, that the strike “has been unanimously rejected by the vast majority of the sector”.
– The communiqué also stressed that “Spain has one of the most advanced transport legislations in Europe” and that the government “has fulfilled all its commitments and continues to make progress in improvements, in dialogue and coordination with the sector and with maximum involvement”. The Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, did not attend the meeting, as she was in Palma de Mallorca on Thursday.
– The strike, the second in 2022, has been called following the approval of a decree law published in August which includes the demands that the hauliers themselves negotiated with the government after the demonstrations last March.
– Those demonstrations, which caused supply problems in different parts of the country, were called by the National Platform for the Defence of the Transport Sector, the same platform that has called next Monday’s strike. At the end of the 20-day strike, the sector began to negotiate with the Ministry of Transport to outlaw work paid below cost price, to prevent lorry drivers from being forced to load and unload their vehicles and, in general, to improve the “burdensome” economic conditions of the sector.
– The law published in August included all these demands but, according to the platform, it is not being complied with. The situation is “practically” as it was in March, said spokesman Manuel Hernández on leaving the meeting, which is why he urgently requested “a formal inspection plan that guarantees that the law will be enforced” by imposing “exemplary sanctions”.
– According to the ministry, the drafting of this plan is already underway and will be approved “in the coming weeks”. “It will include, for the first time, a specific line of action to control prices, late payments and loading and unloading, in accordance with the approved regulations,” the government said.
– The platform, which has been left without the support of the majority of the sector’s employers, is maintaining its intention to carry out the stoppages, despite the announcement of an inspection plan, and is also requesting the elimination of “the exemption of continuous contracts” in the law. According to Hernández, the decree-law does not include continuous contracts between contractor and lorry driver and therefore represents a way of “evading the law” by which companies allow themselves to pay their workers below cost price.
– In view of this situation, Hernández assured that the hauliers have denounced the companies, but they have “no information at the moment” on the status of these lawsuits. Spain’s DGT warning to drivers: failing to use your indicators correctly can result in a hefty fine:
– According to Spain’s Observatory of Behaviour on Motorways, 74% of drivers do not indicate before overtaking another vehicle and very few do so when changing lanes. Now the country’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has issued guidance about when indicators should be used, and how much failing to comply with the rules can cost.
– Many motorists are not sure about when to indicate on roundabouts, the DGT says, and it has confirmed that it is not necessary to indicate when approaching or driving around a roundabout. However, it is essential to indicate when changing lane or leaving the roundabout, to warn other drivers of their intentions.
– When spotting a traffic jam ahead, many drivers instantly put their hazard warning lights on, but the DGT does not recommend this. Instead, if a driver is about to brake sharply, it advises repeatedly pressing the brake instead to warn those behind. However, in this type of situation, the rules say that “a driver must warn others via optic signals if they are going to make any manoeuvre which involves moving sidewards or backwards, or if they intend to stop their vehicle or slow it down rapidly”. Failure to give any sort of warning can result in a 200-euro fine. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/dgt-warning-drivers-20221109110209-nt.html
HEALTH
Why Spain is running out of doctors, and do you really want a doctor working on you who earns less than your plumber?: In Spain, a newly qualified doctor’s basic salary is around €1,600 gross per month. The International Medical Compensation Report 2021 found that American doctors are the best paid in the world, with an average annual salary of €273,000. As for European countries, the report found that the best paid doctors in Europe are German doctors, who make €158,000 a year on average. The UK came in third with an annual salary of €119,000, France fourth with an average income of €85,000 a year, and then Italian doctors, who made an €60,000 euros a year. Where did Spain come in the findings? Down in the sixth place, with an average annual salary of €49,000 – almost a third of what German doctors make. TECH
Breaking News- The Hidden 5G Agenda- It Allows Control of Drones Beyond the Range of the Operator’s Control Transmitter: {DigameXtra}
– Malaga police have, perhaps unintentionally, spilled the beans regarding 5G. The push to get 5G repeater towers installed has less to do with providing better services to computer and mobile users, and evidently it has more to do with authorities expanding their ability to monitor citizen activities.
– The police statement refers to the ability of a drone to send images not only directly to its controlling transmitter, but via local 5G towers, to any control device worldwide. That infers that the signals controlling the drone can do the same. After all, the data stream that carries video data is composed of the same binary zeros and ones that other digital data streams are composed of. The American military has long had the capability, as evidenced by its drone assassinations of terrorists in Afghanistan, of controlling drones from the home base in America, using satellites to carry the data. Now it seems the police want the same remote control abilities, and will use 5G rather than satellites as the data carrier. 5G is far easier and cheaper to deploy than satellite systems that require nation-state level tech and resources, allowing smaller organizations to get into the drone surveillance game.
– Malaga Police Statement follows: {Translation}
– The Local Police of Malaga are currently carrying out various tests to develop drones based on 5G technology that allow video surveillance of crowded areas to avoid crowds and to be able to act quickly and effectively in case of danger. These operations are part of a European project in which the University of Malaga, the Port, Torremolinos and the company TDK, from the Technological Park of Andalusia, are also participating.
– The pilot wears a small backpack, like a fanny pack, with a 5G transmitter inside, which allows the images captured by the drone to be retransmitted in real time to any part of the world, if desired, explains Ricardo Fernández, officer of the Information Technology Unit of the Local Police of Málaga.
– The Torremolinos use test case is the control of beach capacity through camera systems and 5G communication. TDK – the company that manufactures electronic devices – is working on the wireless communication of operations processes between machines through a 5G network; the Port of Malaga presents a use case consisting of the transmission of images of the beach through 5G with drone flights.
