You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. Protect your computer & your privacy with annual servicing. The Doctor is closed on weekends. Always include the patient’s make and model number when making support requests. DoctorLaptop’s Website & Contact Info: doctorlaptop@protonmail.com or call 675 993 069 after 12pm, missed calls returned asap. My contact details are shown every day in the Sponsor’s Section.

New haulier strike called in Spain! What you need to know:
Updated 8 November 2022, 17:20
– Truck drivers in Spain will start an indefinite strike on Monday which may threaten the supply of food and goods ahead of Black Friday and Christmas.
– Spain’s National Platform for the Defence of Transport has called an indefinite strike from Monday November 14th, for which it received support from 86 percent of its associated companies.
– Lorry drivers claim that wages have not risen as promised after the previous strike, and they are still working at a loss while stating that they will be even more stretched in the coming weeks due to Black Friday and the Christmas period. They say that relief measures adopted after the last haulier strike are not being enforced.

Update- The maximum price of the butane gas cylinder:
{Translation, summary}
– Following the Spanish government’s decision to pass an extension to maintain the measures approved in the Royal Decree-Law of 25 June until the end of the year, the 12.5 kg cylinder has a fixed price of 19.55 euros until 31 December 2022.
– The government is confident that the controlled price of 19.55 euros will be maintained in 2023, and that no further measures will be necessary to prevent the price of cylinders from getting out of control. However, this depends on the gov’t passing another extension of the price freeze.
– If the government does not continue to extend the measures in the decree law, the price of the butane cylinder will be set as it had been until the state intervention, every two months. The final figure cannot go up or down by more than 5% with respect to the previous mark.
– Thus, while gas suppliers are posting record profits, the price of a cylinder of butane could reach up to 22 euros by next summer if the price of fuels does not stabilise or fall, or if the government does not maintain the control measures on them. First they jailed a rapper for a song they didn’t like, now they have given a social media troll 15 months in prison- the first sentence in Spain for a ‘fake news’ post on Twitter: {Translation, summary}
– A Twitter user accepted a fifteen-month prison sentence on Tuesday for publishing a fake video that attributed to an unaccompanied immigrant minor an assault that had actually happened in China, in the first conviction in Spain for the dissemination of fake news.
– Before the court of the sixth section of the Barcelona High Court, the defendant has acknowledged the facts and accepted a sentence for a crime against fundamental rights, which includes a fine of 1,620 euros, as well as a ban on teaching or sporting activities for five years.
– Rapper Pablo Hasel is facing a nine-month jail term for glorifying terrorism and slandering the crown and state institutions over tweets and lyrics that attacked the monarchy and police.
– When he defied the order, officers from the Mossos police force collected him. Hasel was led away shouting “they will never silence us; death to the fascist state”. He was driven away to the nearby Ponent prison, where he will begin serving his sentence, reports say.

MALAGA

The Malaga hauliers confirm that they will join the new strike: {Translation, summary} 07/11/22.18:28
– The Platform in Defence of Transport, the nationwide grouping of self-employed and small haulage companies that called the strike last March, has announced a new indefinite stoppage from midnight on Sunday to Monday. The group denounces the “non-compliance” by shippers (the carriers’ clients) with the law that prohibits working at a loss in the sector, and accuses the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of disallowing the Guardia Civil in its task of controlling these irregularities. The delegate of this platform in the province of Malaga, Marina Ramirez, has confirmed that its members will join the strike and stop all their activity.
– “There is a Law of the Transport Chain, but the reality is that there is no way to apply it because the Ministry has told the Guardia Civil that they do not have to do the control, but the transport inspectors that they put in place. And the consequence is that, for the moment, nobody is doing it,” Ramírez points out. The platform assures that this lack of effective control over the freight letters is being taken advantage of by the shippers to impose tariffs that force the transporters, on many occasions, to work “at a loss”. As an example, he states that a load between Cordoba and Valencia is being paid at 400 euros when the price of petrol alone to make the journey, at current prices, would be more than 500 euros.
– The main organisations that make up the food chain and the hotel and catering industry have called on Monday for security and guarantees for the supply of products and raw materials in the face of the strike called from Sunday by the Platform for the Defence of Freight Transport.
– In a joint communiqué, they have demanded that a repetition of the “serious incidents and violent episodes” that affected the smooth running of the food chain during the stoppage of goods transport last spring be avoided.

Airbnb Supports EU Proposal for Short-Term Rentals to Share Booking Data With Authorities:

Airbnb through a statement announced that it welcomes the new regulation and also wants to be part of the solution to challenges that the communities are facing.

ENERGY CRISIS

EU Commission says gas price cap ‘impossible’: The matter has divided EU countries for months as they look to address an acute energy crunch that is driving record-high inflation and threatening recession in the bloc. As many as 15 countries demanding a cap threatened to block other elements of the leaders’ October energy deal – that also includes launching joint purchases and working out a new price benchmark – for as long as the Commission does not present a solid cap proposal. The European Union’s executive told its 27 member countries at a seminar on Monday that it was not possible to create a gas price cap that would not affect long-term contracts or supply security. CLIMATE CHANGE

Spanish Wetlands Go Dry:
– Flamingos, herons and fish once filled a freshwater lagoon in southern Spain. Today, it’s a fetid brown splotch. The whisper of wind in the grass is a sad substitute for the cacophony of migratory birds.
– Biologist Carmen Díaz steps onto cracked mud. The lagoon in the heart of Spain’s Doñana nature reserve is a puddle. The park called “the crown jewel of Spain” may be dying.
– Farming and tourism had already drained the aquifer feeding Doñana. Then climate change hit Spain with record-high temperatures and a prolonged drought this year. The disappearance of Doñana’s Santa Olalla lagoon’s in August makes Díaz, 66, fear that the ecosystem she has studied for four decades may have vanished for good. TECH

Mysterious company with government ties plays key internet role:
– An offshore company that is trusted by the major web browsers and other tech companies to vouch for the legitimacy of websites has connections to contractors for U.S. intelligence agencies and law enforcement, according to security researchers, documents and interviews.
– Google’s Chrome, Apple’s Safari, nonprofit Firefox and others allow the company, TrustCor Systems, to act as what’s known as a root certificate authority, a powerful spot in the internet’s infrastructure that guarantees websites are not fake, guiding users to them seamlessly.
– The company’s Panamanian registration records show that it has the identical slate of officers, agents and partners as a spyware maker identified this year as an affiliate of Arizona-based Packet Forensics, which public contracting records and company documents show has sold communication interception services to U.S. government agencies for more than a decade.
– A person familiar with Packet Forensics’ work confirmed that it had used TrustCor’s certificate process and its email service, MsgSafe, to intercept communications and help the U.S. government catch suspected terrorists. “Yes, Packet Forensics does that,” the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential practices.
