Wanted: Bio/organic market stall. Can anyone suggest where to find the lady who had a stall selling Argan oil and one who sold lovely gluten free home made flaxseed bread? Summer Tapas Cookery Workshop: Join us for our Summer Tapas Cookery Workshop on Sunday 10th May at Casa Montes Negros, organic farm near Trapiche. Using local and seasonal ingredients we will be preparing a variety of Spanish tapas dishes from the south to the north of Spain. Through the menu in this hands on workshop we explore the flavours of Spain. A fun day out for both experienced cooks and novices. Be prepared to get involved in the preparing of a delicious menu.
The workshop starts at 10.30 and finishes at around 4 p.m. and includes all the ingredients, lunch at the beautiful mountain finca in the foothills of La Maroma mountain, and your folder of recipes to take home. Cost 30 euros.

Reader Question

About cane beetles: We’re fascinated by the extremely large flying beetles that seem to make their homes in wood or cane. One provides endless entertainment when we’re eating on our terrace, going into a perfectly round hole in a pole which is much too small for him, spending several minutes in there, and then reversing out. I’ve been told that they’re called cane beetles but when I’ve googled this I can only get information on an Australian beetle which is nothing like “ours”. Can anybody tell me their proper name so that I can find out some more about them please? sue templeman @ uwclub. net (no spaces) Archez.

DoctorLaptop Alert! Windows 10 Spring 2018 Update problem crashing many computers. The Windows 10 V1803 update, released 30APR18, has caused 2 major problems for many users. I have recovered a dozen of these victim computers for clients since this was released a month ago.
1) Some users, especially those that had updated from Win 7 or 8/8.1, are finding that after the update, they reboot to a blank Desktop with an error message that a user profile file cannot be accessed so Desktop is unavailable.
2) People will suddenly see a new OEM or recovery partition in their File Manager that has a logical drive letter assigned to them. No files appear in the partition despite it claiming to be full, and showing hidden files does not reveal the contents either. Options for deleting or renaming the new partition are not available. Then Windows 10 starts with constant notifications that the drive is full.

Chiki’s Bio Restaurant: Plans for Fall 2018: Hello dear friends of Chiki’s Bio Restaurant: We had liked to thank you all for your support throughout this spring. As you may remember on 5/23 the Creative Circle met for the last time before next Fall: We will resume on Wednesday, September 19th at 11am. On Wednesday, 6/6 we will be enjoying the Solid Salads demonstration and lunch for which registration is closed due to having reached our maximum capacity. These cooking demonstrations will also continue in September starting on 9/26 for an exciting Quiche and Pie Crust Class, all without the traditional butter and flour combination. We are delighted to announce that U3A, (the University of the Third Age: http://www.u3aaxarquia.com) will partner with ChikiBio Restaurant, in the Fall, in offering these two mentioned programs and in addition, we will start a language Intercambio.   Night Owl Needs A Snack: Does anyone familiar with Torrox Costa know if there is a night-market, or some “all night accessible” vending machines, available after the supermarkets close at 9:30pm? Or even a kabab shop that stays open late? It appears the restaurants quit serving by about 10pm. Except the pizzerias that are usually open till midnight. Changing to Spanish driving licence:
I changed mine last year through Gestoría Lopez Navas in Torre del Mar (they also have a Cómpeta office) at a cost of 75€.  The first communication received from Tráfico was a form to sign and return relinquishing entitlement to drive certain groups of vehicle which had been automatically included when my UK licence was originally issued – I only drive a normal car here (not a minibus or any type of motorcycle) so for me not a problem, but something to be aware of for some. I asked for their recommendation for the health certificate and they suggested Centro de Reconocimiento Médico Acharquia situated in Av. de Andalucía, 106, Planta 2, Puerta 6. You will need a passport size photo for the certificate. Cost 35€. I previously used a well-known local chain of clinics but I found Centro Acharquia far more professional in their approach and service to their clients. The whole process overall took 3-4 months until the new Spanish licence was received in the post direct from Tráfico. You will be given a temporary authority to drive in Spain while your licence is being processed which will be automatically renewed by the Gestoría if necessary. Excellent service from both the aforementioned businesses.

The first time seller tale:
As a seller on Digame I have to say that we were slightly disappointed by our experience. As a seller one takes time to photograph, correctly catalog the item, this ensuring that the prospective buyer knows exactly what is on offer. Then there are the rules that a person has to abide to regarding placing an ad on Digamextra.
A buyer recently indicated that they were interested in an item for sale. On agreeing where to meet which was half an hour away, and arriving at said meeting place, waiting 15 minutes, phoning perspective buyer, only to find that they had forgotten that they had a meeting. also they did not require the items for sale. We then had another half an hour return trip back home, time, fuel, effort wasted. Maybe before leaving home we should have taken the time to phone the buyer just to confirm that they were still interested in buying the item for sale. Lesson learnt from experience.

Changing to / Renewing Spanish Driving License: I have just renewed my Spanish License for the fourth time, as they only last for 5 years. The following clinic does everything for you, and the service is available every evening Monday to Friday between 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm, but you just turn up, you can’t book an appointment. Centro Medico Ärztezentrum, Bloque 88 Bajo, Av. América, Torrox Costa (I believe that they also offer the service at Clinica Rincon)
Take with you the following: Current Driving License. Passport.
They take your photograph, ask you about your medical history, test your eyesight and finally a reaction test. They then send all the documents away for you, give you a cover note to say that you have applied for a new license in case the police stop you. Your new license should arrive in the post within 2 – 3 weeks.
The cost is 70 Euros if you are under 70 and 45 Euros if you are older.

Kittens Galore: My friend in Benajarafe has had these 4 gorgeous kittens dumped on her but she is leaving Spain imminently so urgently needs homes or foster homes for them.  The kittens are about 5 weeks old and have no mum available. However, they are adorable, tame, weaned and will use a litter tray so they are suitable for homes or foster homes. Could anyone love one or two of them or at least be prepared to foster them to give them a chance of a decent life?

Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History Group meets every first Tuesday of the month at El Parquesol restaurant in El Morche at 11am. We are a friendly and enthusiastic group of people who are dedicated to learning about the History of Spain. Members themselves are encouraged to give talks on a particular area of History which they enjoy. Talks can be about a particular area of history an historical event or a person; a work of art or literature. Members are also encouraged to participate and help in the running of the group as well as giving talks. We also go on trips to places of historical interest but which are easy to get to by bus or by car however for the future I will be looking at Historical sites further afield which would require an over night stay. Our last trip was to the museum in Velez Malaga. Well worth the effort. Everything was in English as well as Spanish and the display ranged from prehistory, the Phoencians and Romans artifacats to modern times. Also many of the items were from lots of different sites in and around the area of Torrox. This month we have a talk on the Inquisition and also the second part of a series of talks on the Romans. Car trade-in advice wanted: We are contemplating changing our car.We currently have a 10 year old Peugot 308. It has done 55,000 miles.  It is right hand drive.When we imported it into Spain it was necessary to have complete(new) front & rear lights;to comply with Spain regs. We have,however, kept the original lights in case of the car being returned to UK. We haven’t a clue where that leaves us in terms of selling or trading in the vehicle. The AlertCops app: There is a very useful app which you can use to contact the Policía Nacional or the Guardia Civil called AlertCops. However upgrades in the operating system for the iPhone in particular has meant that they have had to bring out an upgrade to the app and people who have downloaded it in the past may find it no longer works if they come to use it. This is obviously not a good idea if you are in an emergency situation. I would recommend everybody download the latest version as soon as possible.
