Services Available- Dropping Off at the Airport

Drive into the airport like you were to drop off as before. The only difference is there is now a fence so no entry allowed in for the cars (I think taxis can still drive in there), and there are ticket stations for the Express Drop-off car park.

The first 15 minutes are free. I went over, as I walked my mother in and helped her to the area to get a wheelchair as she cannot walk too far.

Now I have to say dropping someone off is easy, as my husband dropped me off once and I forgot my purse in the car (passport, cell phone and all), I guess it was too easy… But once you walk inside take the moving walkways to the path that leads into the building and go up a flight on the escalator and you are inside the baggage check, and like coming in the front doors, just a bit more walking. Now I had asked myself while walking in what about people who cannot walk that far. Well I answered my own question as I walked back out to my car. At the entrance to the moving walkways there is a kiosk (gray and yellow) with a call button for assistance, wheelchairs, etc.

And, I did overstay the Free 15 minutes, and had to pay 3,25 euros!!!  I was there only 28 minutes total. The rates are different from the pick-up rates.

Minute 2 to 30: €0.050591 per minute.

From minute 31: €0.099766 per minute.

Maximum per day €58.

*Once 15 minutes have elapsed, you must pay the full time from when you parked according to the current rate.

What’s on– Personal Reccomendation of Movie- The Promise

I just saw and often shed tears through one of the best films I have seen in my adult life, a captivating, action packed love story (love triangle) during WWI showcasing the Armenian genocide at hands of Turks in 1915 , The Promise, showing at El Ingenio in Torre.

The story behind release of movie, the continuing battle for historical truth, is also worth researching before you see the movie. Not necessary. I did my research after.

Key role is played by Christian Bale, a courageous AP reporter, who exposes the genocide from in side Turkey up close and personal, and nearly pays for the truth with his life.

This $90 million production that grossed only $8.4 million at the box office, was almost 100’% financed by a USA Armenian multi-millionaire. It is a joint Spain-USA production. (A handful of  USA journalists, reputedly including Bale’s real life persona, along with 2,500 Americans who fought with the Republicans in Spain from 1936  – 39  are buried in this country  in unmarked or mass graves, save one.)

Turkey fought hard in the USA and worldwide to kill the release of this magnificent and thoroughly well acted and gripping war drama and love story. Bring tissues for tears. (I could hear others crying, sniffling during the movie….it’s that good!)

To the credit of Madrid politicians, there is a huge black on white banner hanging on the Madrid Town Hall that reads:  “REFUGEES WELCOME.”

Compassion is in short supply. Stock up with inspiration from this deeply moving swath of visual history reminding us that humans seem to have mastered inhumanity. The Promise speaks to all of us, each of us very personally.

I have seen a few people asking for this information and I have just been to the airport for a pick-up and drop-off, so this information is current.

Picking Up

There is a new parking lot next to the train station. This is called Arrivals First Class Parking Lot on the airport website.

Drive in like you are going to rental car return, but before making the turn, on the right is the train station, it is hard to get to across the white lines blocked out for the taxis, but go ahead. When I went there on two occasions in the past few weeks there were only 2 or 3 other cars parked in the lot, so I do not believe it has been advertised much. And, the sign is a bit misleading, in Spanish even harder… The sign I saw said something referencing only authorized cars, but go ahead and pull in and get a ticket at the gate. There is an exit at the other end on the left. The opening in the fence to the walkway is on the right and go around to the crosswalk under the bridge, but I cut across the driveway and walked out past the exit gate as I did not see the opening in the fence on the right. Take your ticket with you, and on return go the machines first and pay your fees, return to your car and exit. I was there about 45 minutes and paid 3,45 euros. Driving out is a bit confusing but follow the signs, exiting the driveway of the car park go right (you cannot turn left), go through the roundabout like you are going straight, there is a small sign to go right over a small bridge then you are on your way to exiting the airport.

After the success of the previous session a few weeks ago, we now have another date. Once again, this is a great opportunity for any visual artist to brush up on their sketching skills or simply have a go at drawing a life model.

No previous experience is necessary, you can bring along any medium you wish but I would suggest paper as large as you can manage (on a board) and soft pencils and charcoal.

If you visit their Facebook page you’ll be able to see lots of pics of the delicious food and they even have a happy hour that lasts for 2 hours!! Help Needed Urgently

Hi. A couple of weeks ago I posted about two abandoned fellas I have with me. One is a labrador/German shepherd cross about a year or so old. He’s a beautiful calm and friendly soul who likes to take himself of for a walk and get lots of cuddles.

The other is a 2-3 month pointer. He’s very sweet but still very puppy like.

I would love to keep them but simply can’t as I am moving away for work purposes.

Please can anyone give them a home or a foster home or does anyone know how to contact the rescue centre.

I have to go this week and I don’t want to turn them out as they deserve better.

Information re Broken Sewage Pipe

We used to have our line rental with telefonica/movistar and our

ADSL and an all inclusive calls package with another supplier, Europa Networks.

They sent us an email saying that they would no longer be allowed to provide us with cheap calls and, to solve the problem, they could take over our line rental.

Thursday 8^th June – Coach Excursion to Alcalá la Real.  Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar on a one day coach excursion to the city of Alcalá la Real in the province of Jaen, situated on the slopes of La Mota, a hill in the Sierra Magina.  The city is commanded by a large Moor fortress around which, centuries ago, the settlement evolved.  There will be a stop for breakfast along the way and you will arrive in Alcalá at approx 10.30. You will visit the La Mota Fortress, of Islamic origin and the Alazaba where audio guides are available. Also included is a visit to the Palacio Abacial which now houses the Museum of Alcalá. You will have free time for lunch which is not included in the price.

After lunch at 15.50 you will re-join the coach to visit “Los Quesos Sierra Sur”in Ermita Nueva.  This is a family run business producing cheese and yoghurts in a traditional way and their products have received numerous awards. Services – A bouquet for Sanne Sibree-Paul, Physiotherapist

I had my right hip replaced three months ago at hospital Comarcal in Torre del Mar.  After years of misdiagnosis I was in a bad way, couldn’t lift the leg or walk.  So while the surgery and nursing care were excellent the basic recovery advice (‘just walk’) didn’t seem sufficient for me especially as my other hip is bad and will need replacing soon.

I contacted Sanne about a week after I came home and she came to visit my home, she gave me exercises and advice which I feel have played a big part in my recovery.  We had just two appointments then but Sanne was more than happy to talk to me on the phone or email for advice.

I have just had a follow up with her at the clinic.  She has again given me excellent advice, reviewed my walking posture, told me what I should and shouldn’t do.  I am very quickly feeling the benefit.

Sanne is very positive in her approach, understands your concerns and works with you to build your strength and confidence.

I am well on the way to recovery and I want to thank Sanne for her help, it has been vital for me, her support has given me confidence in what I can do.
