From Torre Del Mar.  From the motorway Junction 272, take the A356  towards the mountains.   At Junction KM38 at the end of the bridge,, turn right to Las Gómez, La Viñuela, A7205.  Left at t-junction towards Viñuela.  Go through the village of Las Gómez and on a right hand bend just after KM 2, you will see a clearing where you can park your car just before a new roundabout.  Opposite this are two white single storey buildings and we rehearse in La Casa Cultura at 5.30 to 8.00.   10 mins. Services Available – Core stability, pelvic floor & pilates classes!

Thank you to all who attended my recent Women’s Health seminar on the 27/5/17 at the Centro Mar y Salud. I was thrilled so many of you turned up and that we were able to comfortably discuss very sensitive concerns. I hope you learned a lot not only about pelvic health, how to prevent problems and/or improve your situation if you already have problems, but also about the importance of other issues such as regular smear tests and how and when to check your breasts.

As mentioned in the seminar, I am starting up a new exercise class where we will focus on the pelvic floor and the core stability muscles around your spine and abdomen. It will be a mixture of pilates and pelvic floor exercises- a pelvi-lates so to speak- and will be suitable for anyone with pre-existing back problems, pelvic floor issues and generally any patients with poor muscle strength around the abdomen, spine and/or pelvic area. And the classes are for both men and women!

A strong core is essential for stabilising and protecting your spine, will help prevent injuries, improve back pain, bladder control and posture. Another benefit is a flatter stomach, which is great news now that the bikini/swimming trunk season has arrived!

Classes will run for 6 weeks every Friday at 10.15-11.00 am

We will initially run 6 sessions starting Friday 16/6/2017 – Friday 21/7/17.

Recommendation- Bouquet for Warren Phillips

Yes, another well deserved accolade for Warren!

He had my motorhome for a couple of days and I didn’t recognise on its return!  Friends thought I had bought a ‘new one’!

Recommendation  Needed – plate hangers

 I am looking for some small plate hangers

(the metal and spring variety for hanging ordinary plates on the wall,

for 19cm plates).

I have seen them on Amazon but they would be relatively expensive

to have sent here.

I have searched in the Chinese bazaars but they don’t seem to understand

the concept of what I am searching for.

Don’t Waste Food !

As its the season for tourists and house changeovers in Digameland, this is a plea for you not to throw good food out. At our dog refuge Tail Torrox, we have 4 live in volunteers to feed. Any left over food will be very gratefully received as will any excesses you are given from neighbours or have grown in the garden.

This will help to keep our food costs down which means more money for the ever increasing numbers of dogs we are trying to rehome.

The refuge is situated on the left as you approach Torrox costa next to Mambo graffiti sign and 200 m before Lidl. You can park there too.

Are there any subscribers who are finding it difficult to get the services of a swimming pool technician or maintenance company?

I have been looking for employment with a pool company and as yet have been unable to find any openings. My alternative option would be to set up on my own and relocate, if necessary, to an area where it is evident there may be a shortage of such a service.

Dear Digamites and Animal Lovers

I recently engaged Steven Rowle to help me with our two dogs. They were both rescue dogs and taken on within a short time of each other. They quickly joined together with really bad behaviour. Chico became very aggressive towards other dogs and sometimes people and Lolita could be quite destructive in the home and disobedient. My husband and I had tried everything  to change these patterns with little success and life was becoming quite miserable at times.

I was initially a bit sceptical, but Chico, I discovered from Steven, was carrying a lot of fear and unhappiness from his former life and Lolita was quite depressed. But, Hey Presto! they are now the total opposite. After Stevens visits I watched the change take place each week. Its all about energy, there’s and ours I believe. We had to change the way we looked at things and take on a new rule book but it was all worth it! He even gave us a personnalised aftercare pack for us to refer to.

Thursday 8^th June – Coach Excursion to Alcalá la Real.  Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar on a one day coach excursion to the city of Alcalá la Real in the province of Jaen, situated on the slopes of La Mota, a hill in the Sierra Magina.  The city is commanded by a large Moor fortress around which, centuries ago, the settlement evolved.  There will be a stop for breakfast along the way and you will arrive in Alcalá at approx 10.30. You will visit the La Mota Fortress, of Islamic origin and the Alazaba where audio guides are available. Also included is a visit to the Palacio Abacial which now houses the Museum of Alcalá. Does anybody out there have a water softener fitted and if so has this improved your water quality and reduced calcium build up in pipes.

I have a problem with slow hot water running from the taps, we have a pumped system and we are low down at the bottom of a hill & we get a lot of calcium in the water supply.

Having visited yesterday for lunch following the walk around Comares just the perfect finish to a trip out.

Food absolutely fab, seating area at the front just lovely and great helpful staff
Then just 50 metres away in both directions, you have Bob and his bits!!(plus his new pups ‘Chica’ and ‘Jay’ – who are not for sale) and Retro with guess what? Antiques and retro bits, just a great little place for quirkiness!
All well worth the trip, and it’s really not that far!

Yesterday there was a post called “Service needed – Mail”, which I found quite unfair towards the ordinary Spanish postal service.

During the last 6-7 years I have sent several hundreds letters

through the ordinary Spanish mail service, to many different countries all over the world.

Not even one single letter has gone lost.

The Spanish post office employees might be busy now and then, but my experience is that when it comes to your turn, they are both friendly, helpful and reliable.

It might be that they only speak their native language, – just as all postal workers in UK do,

– therefore it’ll be an advantage if you speak some Spanish, or get help from someone who knows the language.

Recommendation- House Sitters

We went for a short holiday, and used Sarah and Tony to house sit and look after our 14 dogs.

A quick recommendation for Casa el Castano.

We stayed at this lovely Casa Rural last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Set in the mountains near Martos, close to Jaen, it has stunning views and is perfect for a chill-out weekend.

Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Sharon and Chris and they went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely time.

Drive max.  or approaching from  Puente Don Manuel, take A7205 which bypasses Viñuela village and right at the end of the village at the new roundabout, you’ll see two white single storey buildings on the right and nearby is an earth parking area next to a chain link fence.  Park here.

Trip to El Chorro by train – Friday 23^rd June

Come and join us on a train trip to El Chorro and then onto to the fabulous Ardales lakes by coach where we have lunch.

We take the coach to Malaga station where we board the train for El Chorro.  On arrival, there is time to have a chukka around to view the fabulous Camino del Rey, a quick coffee then off to the lakes. There is an opportunity to walk through the King’s Tunnel, to view El Chorro from a different perspective.  Comfy shoes, a torch and hats a must.

Trip to Gibraltar – Friday 7th July

The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday the 7^th July.

We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.  The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price.   Still the best value on the coast!
Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place, as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Plenty to see in Gibraltar apart from the shopping!

Fuengirola Medieval Market 18^th August

The event is unique in Spain, as it takes place within an authentic Arab fortress of the time. Sohail Castle in Fuengirola, a restored Moorish fortress and converted into a auditorium which hosts a variety of musical events during the summer months, has been for some years the perfect setting for the celebration of the Medieval Market in Fuengirola.

At this market you can find all kinds of products and activities that make the visit a time travel to the time of the bards, the craft guilds, traditional gastronomy, etc.

Workshops for clay, bread, leather, toys, jewelry and woodwork will allow visitors to see how they made those products, without industrial action, in ancient times.

Other attractions are archery, donkey rides, witches, fortune-tellers, stilts, storytellers, children’s games, juggling, costumes of the time  and street theatre.

This market in Fuengirola Sohail Castle is considered to be one of the best in Spain because of its location.

Segovia – 11^th – 15^th October 2017

Aranjuez – a night at the 4* Hotel Palacio de Aranjuez

For centuries, the kings and queens of Spain have chosen to spend the spring months in the Palace of Aranjuez, situated in a low-lying meadow formed by the confluence of the Tagus and Jarama Rivers. Thanks to its vast, stunning gardens, Aranjuez was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in December 2001.

The Royal Palace of Aranjuez

In 1561, Philip II, echoing a previous plan drafted by his father emperor Charles V, ordered the old Aranjuez residence to be replaced with a new building which was the precursor of the present Royal Palace. In 1715, Philip V continued with the construction and built the entire structure that presently makes up the main body of the palace. Between 1660 and 1665, it was affected by serious fires and Fernando VI undertook its reconstruction. During the reign of Charles III two side wings, which make up the western part of the building, were added, thus reflecting the taste for French things at the time. Its decor combines Rococo, Elizabethan, Chinese and Moorish motifs. Its restoration was completed last year after ten years of building works.

The Old Quarter

The Old Quarter of Aranjuez has been declared a Historic Artistic Monument as it is a unique example of Baroque town planning. Designed in 1747 by Giacomo Bonavia, from its very beginning it was set to be a noble area that would house buildings of a dignified construction. Its impressive houses with courtyards, domes, mansions, convents, balconies, squares and spacious streets are testimony of four centuries of history.

The Gardens

The gardens that surround it were planned, built and decorated for centuries with the same refinement and care as the building of the Royal Palace. Using Versailles as a model, the idea was to control nature in order to turn the garden into yet another room of the palace. The Jardín de la Isla boasts extensive woodlands, grand avenues and numerous stone and marble fountains devoted to characters and scenes from Greek mythology. On the other side, lies the Jardín del Parterre, famous for its abundant and diverse display of flowers. The Jardín del Príncipe, the largest of all, features broad walkways and a great variety of species of trees.

Continuing on to the end we come to the Casa del Labrador, one of the most splendid buildings of the Bourbon Dynasty. Very close to the jetty stands the Falúas Museum, where one can see the luxurious vessels which sailed on the Tagus and belonged to Charles IV, Ferdinand VII and Alfonso XII.

Segovia – 2 nights at the 3* Hotel Acqueducto

Unesco World Heritage–listed Segovia has always had a whiff of legend about it, not least in the myths that the city was founded by Hercules or by the son of Noah. It may also have something to do with the fact that nowhere else in Spain has such a stunning monument to Roman grandeur (the soaring aqueduct) surviving in the heart of a vibrant modern city. Or maybe it’s because art really has imitated life Segovia-style – Walt Disney is said to have modelled Sleeping Beauty’s castle in California’s Disneyland on Segovia’s Alcázar. Whatever it is, the effect is stunning: a magical city of warm terracotta and sandstone hues set amid the rolling hills of Castilla, against the backdrop of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

On the way to Toledo we will be visiting the Vallley of the Fallen.

Synagogues, mosques and churches stand together in Toledo’s historic quarter, a testament to the medieval Spanish city’s diverse history. The four towers of The Alcazar, a fortress built in 1085, dominate the skyline. Toledo and its surrounding countryside inspired El Greco, and his paintings are on display in many places around the city, including the museum that bears his name.

Ollie is looking for a foster or forever home. He arrived in our hamlet in
Los Gallegos, Comares, near Velez-Malaga, very skinny and submissive.
We can’t keep him as we have two rescue dogs and two rescue cats.
He likes chasing our cats! He’s so sweet and friendly.
Loves cuddles and coming for walks with us. We had the vet check him over. He’s not chipped. He didn’t have a collar we put that on him along with the leish collar.
If anyone can give him a foster home or forever home he so deserves it.
