Billy Needs a Home  

‘Billy’ turned up on my track a few days ago, lost and very thin.  No chip and the Vet says about a year old.  He is very affectionate, behaves like a puppy still, runs like the wind and has the most gorgeous ears !  But he needs a home and I’m hoping someone out there in Digame land is the one for him.

White Lines – Competa ?

Hi, just an observation but now that Competa has another Mayor does the “do not cross over the white line” rule in Plaza Almijara not apply any more?  Walking through the square last night ( Thursday 4th) all 3 restaurants had tables well over and beyond the said line and had to ask a diner to kindly post a letter for me!  .David G

Services Needed-Advice on Computer Work

Unfortunately we here in Spain have a few too many crashes in electricity and/or internet deliveries.

It is enough with a second without electricity, computers without battery will halt and not start again of themselves.

Is there not a way to make the computer start by itself and lode a certain program, as soon as the electricity comes back?

UK Mobile phone warning

I know that many people use UK mobile phones here in Spain so I think it is worth passing this warning on. Yesterday I missed a call from a number starting with 0161. I know this only because I received a message in my inbox. There was no number left in call history! Luckily, before dialling back, I decided to check the area code on Google. Immediately I received lots of messages warning of a scam which could immediately do things like take all your credit off pay as you go or steal your info from a smart phone etc. if you answered. The dialling code area is for Manchester so if you know people in that area  it may well be innocent call, but you have been warned!

Pedigree Cats Needing Homes  

TAIL Torrox has been involved in a rescue operation of a large number of cats and dogs from an apartment.

We currently have 6 cats in Raza Hotel and we would like to get them fostered as soon as possible and eventually adopted. They are Turkish Van pedigree cats, long haired and very beautiful

We cannot afford to keep them in the cattery so are looking for homes for them. They have not been maltreated and are in good condition but are traumatised. They have been used to living with dogs.

A lady who advertises in Digame has let me down , so I am looking for a kind ,reliable , person for November and some time in February ( dates not fixed yet )
2 small dogs and a few cats in a nice house in Torrox Costa within walking distance of the coast ( buses, beach , bars etc ) .

There is a garden and terraces  around the house with plenty of sitting areas and sea view . It’s a very quiet location but not isolated as there are neighbors very near .
The circumstances of my previous regular sitters have changed so that’s why I need to be told of others who will be suitable replacements. I would prefer someone who was around a lot of the time ( maybe retired , homeworker or an artist ) rather than someone who was out working everyday

Dogs Needing Help  – 

I know that here in Spain we are suffering Dog rescue overload but ‘Every Dog has its day’ and it is time that Otto and Doggi found their proud new owners.  They are caged in a miserable place, and are uncared for and often not fed or provided the basics of living.  See my film here and consider if you are the one they have chosen !

Opening Hours– This letter is to inform you that Kitty Harri’s Sculpture Garden is now open to the public ONLY on the FIRST and THIRD Sundays of each month. We now offer Classical Chamber Music on most of these Sundays.

Group visits (minimum 5 ) may still be arranged during the week by appointment.

Workshops

In September we will be starting up our workshops again in mosaics, sculpting in cement and ceramics (new!!). These are very popular events and are also fun social events (e.g. for birthdays etc.) for groups of friends.

As these workshops are scheduled according to demand we encourage you to let us know which you would like to join, with possible dates convenient to you.

Kittens needing homes

Four kittens rescued from the helipad in Periana are looking for a home after a difficult start in life. They are about 5 weeks old. They were found last week in a plastic sack in the sun and left to die. Fortunately they have all been rescued and are now safe in a foster home together. Lost – Golden Retriever 

2 years old female dog golden retriever escaped today from her house in Frigiliana campo. She was tied with a rope when she run away  so maybe she has still the rope on her neck. She has not chip.
She is very shy, if you can see her don’t try to get just please call me  697708887 or call APA Nerja.  If the rope is still there then it could be easier to catch her but not without it . I am not the owner but she knows me very well so she will be fine with me.

Home Broken into

Yesterday lunch time a country property in Carispite, Sayalonga was broken into.  The owners think that the house was being watched as it happened just 10 minutes after they left the house.   Please everyone be vigilant and notice anything out of the ordinary,  take a photo of any cars (and registration number) that look out of place and look out for your neighbours houses and listen for odd noises.  If we all look out for each other lets hope we can make it difficult for the bad guys.

It is a valuable site to bookmark. The Documents Library is a treasure trove of all those endless ‘certificates” N.I.E. Residency etc which are needed here, all come with an explanation on how to fill in your details too. Further in the libaray is advice on Spanish law, property, rental agreements to name but a few. You can spend many a happy hour there just browsing and learning . You are also able to ask for advice and you do get an answer too!

Advice on NI

“Just in case” anyone is planning to apply for the above here’s a couple of notes.

The police/application processing offices NO LONGER ISSUE PAYMENT forms.

You need to download THREE copies of the payment form – address below – (One for bank retention, one for processing with application, one for you).

On payment the bank ( any) will stamp your two copies.

You may need to ascertain the fee rate (currently 9.45 euros for paper only certificate . More for photo I’d card)

Then take TWO COPIES of your application form plus the Bank authorised forms to the appropriate office PLUS ONE copy of your Passport AND the actual passport, for inspection and immediate return.

All being well (!) you may be told you can collect your Authorised NI certificate the following day after 1.30 ( No, really!) when you bring your Stamped copy of the original application as proof.

NB Anyone can also collect the Authorised NI on your behalf, if they show the Stamped copy.

Gibraltar Friday 2nd September

We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.  The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  It is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12          can join us for 1/2 price.   We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place, as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Plenty to see in Gibraltar apart from the shopping!

If you enjoy live music, don’t miss AAR’s 5th Annual Music Fest on Sunday 28th August where rock, blues, funk, soul, reggae, R&B and Indie will all be featured!

Included in the line-up are some of Andalucia’s hottest musicians, who will be performing at Scirocco in Puente Don Manuel (Viñuela area) for 12 hours of live music from 13:30h to 01:30h. This colourful event will also include side stalls, children’s entertainment, a well being zone, plus a choice of refreshments and tasty treats ranging from a BBQ stall to our vegan and vegetarian kitchen.

All entertainers and the myriad of helpers are donating their time, talent and travel costs voluntarily without pay which means, at €6 per ticket, we can offer real value for money in return for your much appreciated support. 100% of funds raised goes to help rehome abandoned and abused animals. Lost Dog Found

Advice on Transporting dog from Spain to Ireland.

We are moving to Northern Ireland.  We want to bring our 4 year old labrador around the end of August to Belfast or Dublin.

We are looking for advice. Is air transport possible from Malaga to either of these airports? Have you flown your dog. Have you any experience regarding dog transport.

We love our dog. We are seeking the least traumatic method to bring her to Ireland. We will travel several weeks in advance so will be there to collect her. We would need appropriate dog cage too.

-The free Windows 10 Upgrade offer has ended. Windows 10 Home version now costs 89UK from Amazon UK or €135 from Microsoft ESP.
-Windows 10 users will receive a large “Anniversary Update” on 02AUG16or soon after. Be careful for the next month, not to force off your computer if it appears stalled or won’t finish shutting down. Your computer may be installing updates in the background, and it may take several hours. If this happens to you be sure to plug in your power cord, running out of battery power during this process could  interrupt the update. An interrupted update can render your computer unbootable.
-Android tablet users will soon be receiving notices to upgrade to Android 6.0.1 (code name Marshmallow). It is recommended to do this update as soon as possible. Be sure to be on a strong wifi connection and have a full battery before starting the update process.
-I have seen several cases of ransomeware infected tablets recently. If your tablet locks up and displays a notice, often with official looking police symbols, demanding money to unlock your device or un-encrypt your data, it is actually a malware infected app. Do not send them money! Hold the power button down till it shuts off and get it to a computer tech ASAP. After 3 days it can be much harder (and more expensive) to fix. In some cases it may require a full factory reset to repair, which deletes all your data. Another reason to keep your data backed up.
-If you rely on email for your livelihood then you should not depend on a free email service. The free email data banks are less secure so get hacked regularly. Also, free email providers have appalling customer service if you have trouble or get locked out. I suggest Hushmail Personal or Small Business plans, based in Canada.  https://www.hushmail.com/

Recommendation- Healthy Eating in Competa

We recently sampled the new healthy lunch menu, La Bokita Verde, at Alioli, Plaza la Vendima in Competa.

It’s always difficult to find something on the menu suitable for vegans/vegetarians so we were delighted to find that not only were there several dishes to choose from, but the food was healthy, tasty and imaginative too.  Highly recommended for vegans/vegetarians.  D.P.

 

 

 

Recommendation – Antstop

I put a post here a while back asking for advice/suggestions as I was having problems with ants outside the house, some of which were starting to make their way inside.

A number of people were good enough to respond and I would like to thank them all for their trouble.

One recommendation was for a product called AntStop, which was said to destroy the colonies and this seemed to be what was needed. I don’t know if it’s retailed in Spain but easily available from Amazon or, in my case, a garden centre in Bridgend via Ebay.

It arrived within a few days and I put little heaps of granules by most of the visible entrance/exit holes. A tad disappointing at first as the ants seemed to be ignoring it, but maybe it’s an acquired taste as the heaps gradually disappeared over the course of 4 or 5 days.

And, not too long afterwards, the ants did too!! Activity inside the house stopped almost immediately and a careful inspection around the perimeter today has revealed no ant activity whatsoever.

So, a product that does do what it says on the tin (actually a drum). Hope this may help any others similarly afflicted.

Advice re Protecting Yourself from Distraction Thefts

It’s not so much the speed and daring of the robbers, in 99% of the time it’s a distraction technique that has been pulled to carry out the dastardly deed. These people are professionals, they’ve honed their skills to a fine point (some under threat, even physical violence) and rarely work alone. Most victims don’t actually remember the distraction afterwards. Remember that on a busy beach there are others around that could witness the theft and they also have to be distracted, so they can’t warn the victim.

Just as you are completing your ATM withdrawal, who could ignore a heavily pregnant woman a few feet away, gripping her belly, groaning and going down on one knee. A look of anguish on her face, imploring for help…. (I’m getting a bit theatrical here!)…. Meanwhile the person behind you has noted your PIN and swopped your card for a similar one. Do you always check the card you put in is the one you’ve got back? Would you remember, hours or even days later, that glass bottle being accidentally dropped and smashed just to your left? (The card slot is always on the right-hand side of the ATM). Stay lucky!

They stole my wallet even though-  in my opinion-  I was ultra careful – obviously not!!

Services Available– All change at Sugar & Spice

We’ve been eagerly awaiting a large delivery of giftware, garden decor and furniture from 2 new suppliers , its arrival over the next few days it turns out will  coincide with our first delivery of Moroccan decor since Ramadan.  Exciting times!

We were already wondering how we were going to cram it all in and then a teeny tiny problema struck in the form of some major building works in some surrounding properties. It became apparent on day one that we were going to need to move at very least the fabrics, cushions and carpets out of the furniture showroom

After a frantic morning of activity we decided on a plan that involved opening a second area of the furniture showroom, to increase the show space and opening up the ground floor of our house to show the soft furnishings and a selection of furniture. For the time being we have increased our display area to include 7 separate rooms.

So in spite of the rather scary looking dumper at the end of the street, we are open for business as usual and there is more than ever to see. The builders have very kindly left the biggest space they can to walk past the digger, if however, you’re sporting a buggy, or wearing white you might prefer to access the shop via one of the parallel streets.

We’re thrilled to see so much investment going into our community, it’s great to see new people arriving and old buildings getting a new lease of life and although it’s a little inconvenient as Mahatma Gandhi said “Adversity is the mother of progress.” and it will be well worth battling the dust to see the great new spaces that we have created.

For those of you with an interest in decor we have also created a new Facebook page www.facebook.com/lacasabellaspain. We will be using this platform not only to promote new products but to market some great special offers that we plan to roll out over the coming months. So please” like” us, invite your friends, family and anyone else to “like” us and in return we’ll continue to scour the planet for fabulous furniture and furnishings.

Warning – Be Wary on our Beaches

A warning to all beach goers and families, yesterday a friend of ours lost his mobile  phones and wallet on Penoncillo beach. His wife was sitting on a sun bed reading when the robber must have come up within a metre of her and took two I phones and a wallet out of a bag. The owner of the bag had just gone into the sea so it was only a couple of minutes when nobody was right next to the bag.

Please warn all your friends. Don t leave anything valuable unattended for even a minute. These robbers are so fast and daring

Recommendation Removals- Purias Impact

I know many Digamites have recommended many local removals, I have a special one who moved me from Competa to Cambridge 6 years ago.  All furniture was export wrapped, no matter how large the units (I had alot of furniture) and so many delicate items.  Purias Impact from Murcia were so professional, polite and efficient both inSpain and in the UK.  I cannot recommend them highly enough.  There was not one breakage of a delicate item, or a scratch on the heavy furniture.  Storage was not a problem and they fitted everything in with my timescale.  You can contact them for enquiries either by phone on 0034 968 654 667 or info@advancemoves.com   You can check out the website yourself at Advancemoves.  Good luck. We have had Competa Properties carrying out building work for us. The men arrived on time, worked hard all day and the job was completed on time. To our delight today when returning home we found cleaners had been and all the areas that had become dusty had been cleaned (a job I was not looking forward to). What was On Nerja 41 club attended Almijara Bowls Club 

Members of Nerja 41 Club (Ex Round Tablers) and our ladies spent a very enjoyable evening at the Almijara Bowls Club just off the Capistrano roundabout in Nerja.  After some excellent instruction from members of the Bowls Club we all blamed the heat for our poor performance.  A great evening of fun and fellowship was followed by a meal and Club Meeting with our ladies at the Nerja Club Hotel.  Chairman Jim Skinner was very pleased with the outcome of the evening and has plans for many more interesting and different evenings during his year as Chairman.

Nerja 41 Club meets twice a month.  On the first Thursday of the month we have our MUNCH BUNCH when we go out for a ‘menu del dia’ with our ladies and on the third Thursday of the month the members have an evening meeting and many of our ladies, who wish to, go out for a meal.  Most of our members are only in Spain for 3 to 6 months of the year so if any Ex Tablers would like to come along you can contact us via www.41clubnerja.org or ring Alfie on 626998626

What’s on Summer Festival Nerja Ciudad Abierta- Music 

The cultural association Ventana Abierta: arte, cultura, personas presents in August the II Summer Festival “Nerja Ciudad Abierta. MÚSICA EN OTROS ESPACIOS”, a unique project whereby concerts take place in private areas not usually open to the public. We open new doors as we discover Nerja under the stars.

The resounding success of the 2015 Festival has raised the standard, and this year we are happy to offer a series of outstanding events which cannot be missed, which include  Classical Music, Latin Jazz, Blues, and Flamenco Fusion.

All concerts will take place at 10pm, on the following dates:

His extensive curriculum includes several concerts in the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany.  He has performed at important music venues such as the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, St. Martin in the Fields and St. James’ Piccadilly in London, in the Teatros del Canal de Madrid and in various musical societies of the U.K.  He earned his diploma at the Royal College of Music.

Home Needed for Rescue Dogs

Six years ago I rescued a week old puppy just before Christmas and then 3 years ago a second puppy abandoned left to die near where I work.
They have become great friends but unfortunately my circumstances are now changing, I cannot care for them anymore!
Many a day they spend happily in the garden but I now have to move and won’t be able to take them with me.
Is there anyone out there who would consider adopting these two dogs?

I know that here in Spain we are suffering Dog Rescue Overload but ‘Every Dog has its day’ and it is time that Otto and Doggi found their proud new owners.  They are caged in a miserable place, and are uncared for and often not fed or provided the basics of living.  See my film here and consider if you are the one they have chosen !

CG Tax 

In reply to the query regarding Capital Gains Tax – this certainly was the case 2 months ago when we put our house on the market. ie  Tax resident 3 years + and over 65.  Neither our solicitor nor estate agent have advised us differently.  If it is not the case any more I would ask how are we supposed to keep up with the ever changing laws etc?  Carol

Puppies Need Homes  

Milly was rescued and then found to be pregnant.

She gave birth to 6 healthy puppies on June 1st, 3 boys and 3 girls. We are keeping Milly and already have 4 other dogs so homes are needed for the pups.
Milly has a lovely nature and is medium to large. The pups may be large and are now 8 weeks old.

They have just had their first injection and are all healthy.
They all have different markings and colouring.
