Male Puppy Dumped. Please Help

This male pup, around 3 months old, was dumped over our back fence very early this morning. He is well fed not chipped but is settling down.
We cannot keep him as we are not in good health and already have 3 dogs and it would not be fair to this little chap.

Lost Bracelet

What’s on- Capistrano Film Nights

Many of you will know, that sadly, Vivian Margulies recently passed away and Marty has now returned to his home in Florida. We know that Marty plans to be returning to Capistrano in October and has said that he will still be available for advice and assistance in the presentation of Film Nights.

However, before leaving, Marty entrusted his amazing collection of films to Capistrano in the hope that his legacy of Friday night film showings will continue. Thanks to Marty we have a database of all these films and thanks to Ken Finch we now have that database instantly viewable by title, genre, language, actor etc. available on CD.

I am delighted to say that a number of committed individuals have agreed to participate in the selection and showing of a number of films for the next season.

Ken has agreed to monitor and collate the choices with the aim of providing a wide variety of genres, languages and artists.

If anyone is keen or willing to participate in the selection & showing of a film or films- please contact me. Presenters from all nationalities are welcome.

All we need to start with is your availability on a Friday night during October – March and a contact e-mail – We’ll do the rest.

Wanted – Storage for a Caravan

I am looking for storage for a 3/4 birth caravan which I am bringing to Spain in May.

I have looked at the caravan site in Torrox and they don’t appear to do storage. Just pitches which I do not require.

I am looking for a place to store it for a few months near to Competa at a reasonable rental cost.

If I can’t find storage then I would need to sell it so let me know if you are interested.

The caravan is in very good condition with up to two double beds, kitchen and toilet.

Searching DigameXtra, details

Water Shortage in Competa?

I have heard, from more than one person, that Cómpeta is extremely short of water, due to the fairly dry winter, and that the mayor has been negotiating for a supply to keep us going through the summer. As this is something that affects us all, I thought it ought to be made public knowledge, so that everyone can do their bit to conserve this valuable commodity and waste as little as possible. Those of us who live in the campo generally have a water deposito which will keep us going when the town water is cut off (and it has been off most of this last week), but that does not last for ever and, of course, it immediately fills up when the town water is turned on again, so any saving the town has made is immediately lost! Please think carefully when using water and conserve it for re-use wherever possible. Gwen

Saga UK vehicle insurance covers you for a full 12 months out of the UK but do make sure your UK MOT is in date! I got a new one a week before we left even though it wasn’t due for 5 months. The Saga vehicle breakdown recovery is also for a full 12 months out of the UK. Be truthful about your expected mileage though….

The one problem could be, Spanish law limits you to 6 months in country with UK rego…. if you get stopped.

Panic buttons are available in Spain through Social workers at your local health centre ,the social worker will help you obtain one if you have the correct paper work they will help you fill in the form and make telephone calls . The clerk on the desk at your local pensonister club is very helpful too with this matter but found much more hands on help with the social worker

We have a panic button supplied by the Junta de Andalucia. Our local Social Worker (Trabajador Social) dealt with our request and it is a very good service.

We have used it several times, and it has given us a degree of peace of mind as we live in the ‘campo’ with no near neighbours.

I believe the monthly cost depends on your income. Ours has cost €10.80 per month but is about to become free as our dependence has increased.

I hope this helps: we are not in the Nerja area but it must surely be the same all over Andalucia.

(2) SAGA (UK) will insure your UK car for unlimited EU travel. The only proviso is that you have to inform them if when your stay exceeds 6 months, but your cover will continue to be valid.

What’s on- At last it is official ! Singing is good for you!

According to a report in the Daily Mail and BBC News, singing reduces stress hormones, can help to boost your immune system which can help the body to fight illnesses. Depression can be eased by singing – due to the adrenaline you produce when singing and breathing!
The mere connecting with others in a group of happy people generates good feelings and brings confidence.
Scientists found that just one hour of singing significantly improves levels of immune proteins. Experts have long known that singing improves your mood! The choir featured on BBC News consisted of carers and cancer sufferers and members were finding that singing in this happy atmosphere was helping them to fight this terrible disease. People who already enjoy singing in a choir are aware of the benefits so why not give it a go and join us in “One Voice” based in Competa or in Vinuela “CoraXalia”

You don’t need to be able to read music (although it does help!) just have a willingness to learn and a commitment for 2 hours once a week. Any age, any nationality, any gender – all are welcome. The Competa choir rehearse on aThursday afternoon from 2.30 – 4.30 in a room called Fernan’s Bar, which is behind Competa’s Town Hall. We sing all types of music and in several languages.

We have recently joined up with our sister choir in Vinuela for a wonderful concert in Granada and have been invited to sing in Padua, Italy, and also next year again in Granada’s Music Festival.

Sorry, can’t help with searching…. that’s more in Doctorlaptops line. However, for some time now, whenever there is a snippit of info that could come in useful I copy and paste it into an email and send it to myself. It is important to take care in naming the subject line. I also add the date into the subject line. I then archive it into a folder that I call Digabits.

With Gmail you get 15GB of storage so no problems there.

Searching Digamextra – Approaches Advised :-

(1) Google search advised I find that if I do a search on Google for something that I know is in DigamExtra, it will often return it in the search results. I did this last week and it worked.

When I visit the Digamextra website (from my iPhone browser) I can see a search button and when I click on that I can enter my search terms and it returns the appropriate posts.

Alternatively in your google search enter “site:digamextra.com plumber competa” (without the quotes) and google will return links to the posts which contain the words plumber and competa, from the DigameXtra.com site. Obviously change the words plumber and competa to whatever search words you’re looking for.

I find that putting “digamextra” plus specific words for whatever you are looking for into you search engine works well. For instance the following for “furniture restorer” posted by someone in February…

I have received many emails asking about this subject.

I too find it difficult to search for previous entries. Given that I also delete all emails once the morning’s Digamextra is finished (my Poor In-Box!) I try lots of way – with very poor results.

Wednesday 13^th April – Coach Excursion to Salobreña & Kitty Harri´s Sculpture Garden. Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite you to join friends on a coach excursion to visit the town of Salobreña situated on the Costa Tropical, whose history stretches back 6000 years. You will climb the very steep hill to visit the old part of the town where the Moorish castle built in the 10^th century is situated, which you will be able to visit provided it has re-opened after renovation, entrance ticket included. You can also see the Mudejar 16th century church, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario which is built on top of the old mosque. There will also be free time to have lunch.

There are 150 plus artworks to see and the gardens are continuously evolving, containing many species of palms, shrubs and trees from around the world. There are magnificent views, north to the Almijara and Cazulas mountain ranges, south to the Mediterranean Sea and on a clear day the Rif mountains of Africa. Wednesday 13^th April – Coach Excursion to Comares and Colmenar. Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Fuengirola on a coach excursion to 2 white villages in the Axarquia area of the Costa del Sol. Comares is situated on a cliff over 725 meters above sea level, with wonderful views of the Sierra de Tejeda and the Velez Malaga valley down to the sea. Its history dates back to pre-Roman times and the main traces of occupancy are Arabic. The town fell to the Mores to the Christians in 1487.

You will arrive in Comares at approximately 11.00h where you will have free time for lunch and can follow the ceramic footprints which show you the way through the very narrow streets of the village to visit the watch tower, ancients town walls, water storage tanks, inscribed stonework, cemetery and the many natural viewing points where you can admire the breath taking views to Velez Malaga and inland, the snow caped mountain ranges of Tejada and Almijara.

You will then depart Comares at 14.00h driving across the Viñuela Reservoir embankment and through the beautiful country side to the village of Colmenar, stopping for coffee on the way. Here you will visit the Honey Museum, where you will learn about how the bees produce the honey and a chance to try some of the different types of honey which is for sale. Windows 10 Upgrade – Warning From DoctorLaptop

Please remember that just because your computer downloaded the Windows 10 Upgrade that does not mean your computer is Windows 10 capable. Even if you go to the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor site and pass the test you are not assured of a successful upgrade! You must go to your computer manufacturer’s site and locate the page for your specific model. If there is a warning that the manufacturer has not yet tested Windows 10 for your model, or any other statement suggesting that they do not support the upgrade or provide the required drivers, do not do the upgrade! Even if it appears to succeed problems will likely surface very soon. The Windows 10 Upgrade, once installed, can be rolled back to the previous system within 30 days only. Look at the Recovery settings if you find yourself in this situation, where you will find the rollback function.

Recommendation- for Con Mari bar/restaurant in Torre del Mar

I would highly recommend eating at Con Mari if you are in Torre del Mar. We have been on several occasions both when it was situated on the seafront and since it has moved to bigger premises one road back on Calle Copo next to El Faro burger bar. The food is excellent, consistently good (something we don’t find with many restaurants) and the presentation is superb. They also do a 6.50 € menu del dia all day which is different each time we go and we feel it just can’t be beaten for both flavour and value for money.

Thanks from Action for Animals

Last month, Action for Animals together with Juan Molino of Naturvets, visited Candido Lara school in Cómpeta to give a presentation about the importance of caring for animals. Since the presentation, the children have been busy fundraising. They’ve held a second hand market, rattled their collection tins during a “mini march” around the village and sold their paintings during Cómpeta’s recent Art Walk. They’ve raised an incredible €207.46 in total!
A huge thank you to the teachers at Candido Lara, the organisers of the Art Walk and most of all a massive thank you to the pupils of Candido Lara. Well done, everyone!

I have been back in the UK for the past two months and am now back in Spain, apologies to those of you who have been trying to get your cars booked in for my specialised service. I am now taking bookings for May as I am already fully booked for April. For those of you not acquainted with what I do, I turn very tired cars into sparkling vehicles to be proud of. I can often bring sun faded paint back to a high lustre and also apply protective coatings which prevent/slow down the fading process. I also carry out paint correction to blemishes scratches and small dents etc, I get your paint colour matched to factory spec and then apply it to your vehicle in a number of methods depending on the defect, from airbrushing to full panel spray. I use PH neutral products which all enhance the finish of your vehicle without stripping off any protective barriers. I only use the best products on the market many of which are imported from America. I have bought and own the very best tools in the industry and have invested €000’s to enhance and preserve the interiors and exteriors of any vehicle. I can re colour faded bumpers and trim and polish faded headlights, I machine polish cars to bring the paintwork back to its former glory. I can also do general car valeting, to a very high standard, which wont cost you a fortune. The entire car is cleaned including engine bay, door shuts, air vents (with small detailing brushes etc) the car will arrive back to you spotless, with a full protective coat of wax. So if you have an old car which runs well but looks a little scabby in places then I am the man for you. Equally I work on many high end supercars.

I tell all my customers the same, “If for some reason, you are not happy with the work I have carried out, I will continue until you are happy or you don’t pay me.” I have never had an unhappy customer yet and have received many positive and encouraging recommendations here in the land of Digame. Easy the best Indian food in the area just like we get in UK and better than some.
I had Chicken Tikka Karahi with mushroom rice and asked for it to be Madras strength, very tasty indeed, I asked for an extra Madras sauce so I could taste that too it was more spicy but really tasty, lots of flavours. There were 8 of us on this occasion and we all had different dishes and we all said how good the food is. We travelled half an hour to try the Budhha House and it was well worth it. A must visit and great food.

I should like to recommend the hotel Las Orqudeas at Los Romanes for celebrating or just having a drink while admiring the view.
We stayed to celebrate our Golden wedding and found the owners and staff most friendly and helpful.
