“I love reading Digamextra and some of the interesting posts about what’s on and items of interest and attractions to visit. I do however think that perhaps you could filter out some of the items people have for sale. Could you not put a limit on the prices? For example a minimum of 20 euros an item. I see lots of people selling things for 5 euros. Really? Is it worth all the effort to get 5 euros? I think the choice of things for sale would greatly improve if the items were more expensive and would save you time having to post items that would probably be better in a charity shop. “ J.D.

Open from 10.30 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 19.00 every day.

Its much more fun than walking on your own and it makes the dogs so happy to get out

Recommendation- deal with Ants

We live in El Campo, Nerja and for more than a year we have had ants. Tidy and wash all work surfaces every night, but they find the smallest morsel of food, every night, without fail.

I add about 10ml of Fairy washing up liquid to 300ml of water in a spray bottle to wash pots manually (saves a lot on washing-up liquid), but if you spray the work surfaces last thing at night with this 3% Fairy-soap solution then there are no traces of ants at all the next day.

The soap destroys water surface tension, so the water sticks to the ants and they drown. Works everywhere on non-porous surfaces, tiles floors, etc. Only needs one spray 🙂

Three intelligent people – with little knowledge of TV, sport or pop culture – living miles apart in Cómpeta and Los Romanes, would like to take part in a pub quiz. However, we are too far apart to go to either of these locations regularly.

Is there anywhere halfway between (e.g Torrox or somewhere closer to Velez?) where there is a regular quiz, and would anyone out there like to make a fourth person for a possible team?

Stunning Cats Seek homes 

These beautiful cats were rescued in the summer from an apartment with 75 cats and dogs. We now need loving homes for them. They are gentle Turkish Van cats who are used to dogs. They are a bit shy but come round in time and are very affectionate. They don’t wander.

The dog that Steven is referring to in the previous Digamextra is ours and everything reported is absolutely true!

Reading Steven’s recommendation on Digame, as a serious sceptic of ‘hocum pocum’ I dismissed it but, having tried almost everything else including a most expensive ‘Homeopathic Vet’ in Herradura (never ever paid so much for four little rubbish tablets) didn’t know where else to go!

After three visits from Steven, as Steven says  Luca is at peace!

I don’t know how you recommend (spread the news) of someone like this but, he definitely has a talent!

Well, winter is almost over and the hospitals and ambulatorios are back to normal after the vacations.
You should be getting that appointment you have been waiting for any day now.
Most doctors speak a little English, but much prefer you to have an interpreter with you, because the risk of being misunderstood or of misunderstanding  is too great.
I was an interpreter at the hospital for fifteen years And for the last five have been working privately for patients.  My charges are reasonable and they can include picking you up if needed. And , most importantly, I dont charge by the hour.

I drove down with my UK reg car from England to Canillas de Albaida, and my dear car didn’t skip a beat.  But a few days after arriving, I experienced a racing engine (on the autovía) which wouldn’t turn off, accompanied by enough white smoke from the exhaust to bring the autovía to a standstill….pretty frightening.  It’s a diesel, and I’m now aware of the various problems which can cause this, but none the wiser as to the damage after almost a week at my local mechanic.

Can anyone recommend an English mechanic who could tell me more than “your engine needs to be repaired”?  I want an engine compression test done, and to know if it’s the turbo, fuel-injection, head gasket, etc. which failed/needs replacing.  I’m unprepared to either write off my 15 year old car, or spend EUR 1,000 on a new (secondhand) engine on the basis of no information!

In the near future, it will also be available in local shops along with John’s other books.

This is a new venture for John, as it is not a book of mystery and crime stories, but is a romantic historical novel about an Andalucían village, from prehistoric times to the present day. Sedella is one of the ‘pueblos blancos’, white villages, of the Axarquía, a hilly region in Málaga province.

Each of the historical chapters is in two parts. The first part is a fairly factual account of the relevant time, though some of these facts may be slightly altered in time etc. to fit the story. The second part of the chapter is a story set around these historical events.

In the 21 chapters, he has tried to give a picture of what the village would be like at different times, for example under Roman occupation, under Moorish occupation, during the long years of Franco’s dictatorship, what the village was like when he came here in 1994 and what it is like now.

Just to thank you for putting my request on Digamextra regarding items stolen from my apartment last week

A man contacted me to say he found  purses on the beach near where I live but no money and only an expired  REPS Club card

He was flying back to UK that day and as there was no address or money in the purse he left it on the beach

Imagine how pleased I was when I went to el Pino for Christmas lunch to be presented with 2 purses with my residencia in and a key ring with my Mum’s photo on it.

She passed away 2 years ago and it was a joy to see her smiling face again on Christmas Day.

Thank you whoever you are for taking the time and effort and taking them to el Pino Restaurant and thank you too to Paul, PJ and other members of the staff there for keeping them for me and also a fantastic Christmas Day Lunch

Merry Christmas to Clients old, new and those we have not met yet.

One of Steven Rowles most recent cases was with a dog called Luca.

Luca was in a never ending cycle of trauma and distress, attacking his rear end, at anytime of the day or night, causing his owners and their other dogs, an immense amount of anxiety and worry. Lucas previous history was very unfortunate. A previous irresponsible owner and a stressful Campo life.

He was found lying in the road having been run over. His rear end crushed, he spent three months in the Vets to recover. But Luca began to exhibit this strange, baffling behaviour of attacking his rear. After many, many more visits, X-ray’s, tablets and subsequent costs, they diagnosed a cracked vertebrae.

An MRI Scan was the next stage.
On the surface Luca presented symptoms of pain in his behind.

Steven Rowle very quickly discovered that pain was not the issue.

Luca was actually living in fear.  Everything that had happened to Luca had come from behind.

Fear of cars and the accident, fear of people, fear of other attacking dogs and the stressful life that a wild campo life brings. His fear was all behind him.

Luca never ate in peace or chewed a bone without the need to defend himself, so much so that the growling, snarling and snapping at his behind would present itself when there was nothing or no one around, even during sleep.

Luca would often wake up at night and start the whole cycle all over again. A head cone originally worn after his surgery had to continue for his own protection at night.

After under going Steven Rowles Healing and Desensitising techniques, Luca is now a much happier dog. The fear from behind has gone. Attacking his rear has reduced to rare incidents and only then presents itself as a brief low growl.

Bones are no longer anything to fear but to be enjoyed.

His demeanor is now calm and the family unit, both humans and dogs, are now at peace.

Steven does not offer overnight cures but with a little time, patience, love and his expertise, anything is possible.

Recommendation needed –English Car Mechanic

DoctorLaptop Will Be Available For Next 2 Weeks

Hi everybody, I am home from the hospital for 2 weeks. They saved my toes, for which I am grateful, but found the cause was other severe blood issues and very low immunity I now must deal with. However I still can’t walk more than a few meters a time, It’s going to take 2 wks for all the test results to be ready considering this is the holiday season and little gets done, so they let me go home to wait it out.

I may well have to return to the hospital after that. But for now I am home and really need to make some money. So please feel free to call regarding any laptop work you may need. I am too weak to be lugging towers around however.

I can still do any laptop maintenance or Windows installs or systems jobs, as I can do these sitting at my desk with my foot up.

Thanks for all the supportive emails and to the several DigameXtra readers who continue to bring by prepared or takeaway food, put credit on my mobile or slipped me some folding money, and others who took Mr.Bones out for a walk. Bones is now staying with friends. It is all greatly appreciated as I work thru this difficult episode

Heron

Hi you will not see your fish because they are stressed and frightened. The Heron has obviously visited your pond and taken some of your fish as he has done with mine. The fish which I have left are very frightened and they are hiding all the time. I live in Frigiliana and have seen the Heron return on numerous occasions.  James

Heron

My apologies that I forgot to mention the area where we have seen the beautiful but unwelcome heron. We are in Nerja campo. However when we last had a visit a few years ago it visited many ponds around this area and we lost all but 2 fish. Sadly we have not seen any of our fish recently but hope that may be due to the winter cold. Thank you for the knowledgeable advice from a Digame reader. What a great site this is. What’s on-Trip to Gibraltar

The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday the 6th January and we have a few seats still available.
We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.  The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price.   Still the best value on the coast!
Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place, as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Plenty to see in Gibraltar apart from the shopping!

Recommendation – for Spanish Conversation
Two of us (English guys) have recently started Spanish Conversational practice with a young lady from Mezquitilla. We advertised in Digamextra and are very pleased with our choice of teacher. She learned Spanish from an early age and is also a native English speaker so is able to help us with our pronunciation as well as explaining any problems in English. There are no structured lessons as such for us as we have a good knowledge of words — it is just placing them in the right order and with the right verbs is the problem for us!!

Nancy will teach at any level and is very patient.
We would certainly recommend her for anyone who is learning Spanish, is frightened of making mistakes and wants to practice speaking. We meet in a coffee bar in Mezquitilla but I believe she can arrange alternative locations.

Non Residents who have a property in Spain, shall pay the 210 Tax to Hacienda, tax authorities. This is not a Town Hall tax. For this year, which is referred to 2015, always one year behind, the new formula for properties in Nerja is the following EU (European Union) countries, Norway & Iceland: Valor Catastral x 2% x 19.50%. Rest of the countries: Valor Catastral x 2% x 24%.

Recommendation – Heron Control

Herons always try to land and walk towards a pond.

Their knee joints lift forward so they cannot step over things .

Try and install a wire and cord around the pond about 30cms high.

This can stop them walking into the water.

Close enough to the water end to stop them landing between the cord and the water ….but far enough to stop them reaching the water with their long neck.
