During the recent heavy rainstorms our Rover 75 experienced a deluge
of water into the engine compartment. As a result, the car refuses to start.
We have an error message on the dashboard of the car.

trip out to the lovely village of Macharaviaya.
We visited the museum where the delightful young woman Katie
gave us a guided tour and explained all about the Galvez family who
were an influential political dynasty of high ranking officers and governors
of the new world.
After our visit to the Museum Katie gave us a tour of the village and the church of San Jacinto where the crypt of the Galvez family is.

Two Cats Need a New Home Please Genie and Fern, the ex-feral cats that we saved, are looking for a new home – They become stressed when separated, so must stay together. Our son and puppy are both constantly harassing them, and that, coupled with the journey back to England; selling our home; buying a new one; and relocating, just seems too much to put them through. Regarding the item headed ” Thoughtless driver kills dog ”

Now most people in Spain know about the dog culture here but to put the blame on drivers is wrong . If dog owners really cared for there pets they would not be allowed to roam free but should be in fenced areas or on a lead . Dogs wandering loose can be a real danger for anyone because of a risk of being bitten . We have considerate dog walkers in our area where we have seen loose dogs attack smaller dogs on leads and even pick fights with big dogs on leads which is terrifying for owners who could end up being mauled themselves . I agree some drivers travel faster than they should but the control of speed is the business of the Guardia . I am a motorcyclist as well as a car driver and even when travelling at moderate speeds on a bike it is scary when a dog or dogs come straight out onto the road whether that is around town or in the campo . I hate to think of any animal being injured or killed so where does the blame for these situations really rest . What if your dog causes a driver to swerve and kill a child or a dog bring off a motorcyclist that is killed . Think ! Responsible dog owners have my respect . Stray Dog Needs Home

This is Jake, a young German Shepherd mix. He arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago, scared, skinny and starving. Although it’s absolutely not possible for me to keep him, I thought I would try to find this lovely boy a home. There was a chance of homing him to Germany if I could help with the costs, I got him a pet passport, blood tests and vaccinations, but as he tested positive for Leishmaniasis, (he has treatment for this now) Going to Germany is unlikely now.
I am desperate to find a home or foster for this sweet boy as he is living on my doorstep and I have nowhere to contain him. I feed, walk and play with him when possible, but he deserves so much more. Jake is very friendly and loves everyone he meets. Thoughtless Driver Kills Dog

Today, Día de Andalucia, a very small dog was run over by a heartless driver. This is the fourth one here in Corca in just over a year. OK, so Spanish dogs like to chase cars but they don’t deserve to die for it. It is a national pastime for them. The heartless person who did this got out of the car & dragged the poor thing to the side of the road while she was still bleeding. This poor little girl whose name was Canela was less than a year old & she will be sadly missed by us, her little buddy, Perla & her owner, our Spanish neighbour. We know it is a waste of time, but we appeal to drivers to drive slower on country roads. John & Linda. R.I.P. Canela

“Wives and Lovers” adapted from “Country Wife” by: William Wycherley. Director: Marty Margulies The story behind “Wives and Lovers” By: Marty Margulies Back in September I received an email from Trish Hall, then Players Membership Secretary, now leading lady, praising an obscure Restoration comedy, ‘The Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, she had just seen performed in the UK in full 1675 costuming. Coincidentally, I had just acquired a book of Restoration comedies and this play was included. Reading it was comparable to hacking through an overgrown jungle filled with archaic and very smutty language; in its original form it could not have been presented by the Players. However, I found it very humorous and intricately plotted with three story lines: a rake uses a fake injury to insinuate himself into noble society; a jealous husband tries to cocoon his vivacious country wife; and a mature, intelligent woman must be dissuaded from entering into a doomed marriage. Like a comic strip light bulb flashing over my head, I decided to re-write the play in more accessible and less offensive language and updating it. But what period? I chose the early 1920’s because many of the same social strictures still prevailed although it was an age bursting with new freedom — the Jazz Era — and the UK had just come out of winning a devastating war. I re-titled the play ‘Wives and Lovers’ because that summarized the play far better than its original title. What’s on –Basic Ceramic Modelling and Sculpting Workshop at Kitty Harri’s Sculpture Garden – Tuesday March 13th
Together with our Danish Artist-in-Residence Martin Nybo we are offering a one day (5 hour) course in modelling and sculpting figures in clay (on this occasion using a mould).
You will learn the basics of using clay materials as well as the techniques of modelling. You will also learn the basics of glazing, which will be applied to your model(s). The pieces will be fired subsequently and you may pick them up at the Garden at a later date.
There will be a break for refreshment – please bring your own packed lunch.
The cost for the Workshop is 120€ including all materials.

What’s on Exhibition “Women and Weird Things” paintings, jewellery, objects
This interesting mix of different art forms by Dutch artist Coby Bloemsma can be seen in Nerja, sala Municipal de Exposiciones in Calle Cristo 14 ( the post office street).
The exhibition is called “Women and Weird Things” because most of her paintings are of “Women” painted realistically or in abstract. The “Weird Things” are drift wood and paper maché objects, jewellery and a huge room divider with 6 panels, three Japanese geisha’s on one side and 3 fierce looking Japanese warriers on the other side.
The exhibition is from 16 to 30 March, open daily from 11.00-14.00h and 17.30-21.00h

What’s on- Dancing & Exercise
Do you enjoy, dancing, movement, Latin music, spending a healthy couple of hours with same minded people?? If yes, join us on Tuesday and Thursday for Latin Dance Classes in Velez.. Studies show that dancing and especially learning or brushing up on steps is the ultimate form of body and brain exercises. Join us on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to approximately 10pm. We will not rush to teach you complicated steps. These lessons are for individuals or couples who want to better understand 1) the basics of the body moving to music, 2) how to center yourself, 3) how to establish your center of gravity, 4) how to transfer your weight gracefully 5) how to improve your posture, and 6) how to express in movements what the music conveys. Trip to the Bioparc in Fuengirola
The visit by the Phoenix Club is on the 23rd of March. Trip to Gibraltar 6th April 2018 – The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday 6th April. We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30. The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30. Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book. Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential. On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee. We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

Lucena is situated on the Lucena River, a minor tributary of the Genil, on an important crossroads at the very center of Andalusia. In early times Lucena was inhabited almost exclusively by Jews who had arrived together with its founders; hence it was called “Jews’ City”, a nickname also applied to Granada and Tarragona. The Jews of Lucena, who carried on extensive trade and industries, were, according to the 11th-century Moslem geographer, Mohamed al-Edrisi, richer than those of any other city. They enjoyed the same freedom as their correligionists in the large Muslim cities. Their Rabbi, who was elected by the entire community, was granted special privileges and acted as judge in the civil and criminal cases arising in the community. The Jews lived peaceably until the Almoravides came into power.
Lucena was taken from the Moors in 1240 but it remained as frontier village for centuries. In fact, it was in the attempt to recapture it that King Boabdil of Granada was taken prisoner in 1483.
The parish church dates from the ending of the 15th century. Our Lady of Araceli is an image brought from Rome in the 16th century and is the patron of Lucena, canonically crowned in 1948.
The chief industries are the manufacture of furniture, industrial refrigerators, wine, bronze lamps and pottery, especially the large earthenware jars (tinajas) used in the past throughout Spain for the storage of oil and wine, some of which hold more than 300 gallons. Matches also used to be made there. There is considerable trade in agricultural produce.
Our visit includes Montillar – The olive oil of the district is abundant and good, and it is the peculiar flavour of the pale dry light wine of Montilla that gives its name to the sherry known as Amontillado. Montilla is the largest component of the Montilla-Moriles designated wine region. The large wineries Alvear and Gran Barquero are located in Montilla, which has an annualvendimia (wine-harvest) festival.

Visit a Lavender Garden in the Alpujarras – 25th May
The garden was started in 2005, from the abandoned terraces of an old farmhouse. Over the years the owners have converted the 8,000 metre square site into a delightful Mediterranean mountain garden. Organised over several terraced levels, the gardens offer a variety of distinct areas or garden rooms for the visitors to enjoy, with planting ranging from native species from the Sierra Nevada to the exotic. The emphasis is on plants and how they flourish in these very unique climatic conditions.
