SPAIN
General election poll 29N- The early election strengthens the PP, Vox and Junts bloc: {Trans, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez announced last Monday that he would call early general elections, taking advantage of the fact that the Congress of Deputies had rejected his two housing decrees. He did so because he saw the citizen mobilization and discontent over housing as an opportunity to boost his own electoral prospects. However, the effect of calling early elections seems to have been the opposite of what the president intended.
– According to a poll conducted by NC Report for LA RAZÓN, the parties that voted against the housing decrees have not suffered any losses as a result. The poll indicates that, if general elections were held today, the People’s Party (PP) would be the clear winner with 34.1% of the vote and between 146 and 148 seats. That’s between nine and eleven more than in 2023. The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), on the other hand, would plummet to 25% of the vote and between 98 and 102 seats, losing between 19 and 23. The Socialists are dangerously close to the psychological barrier of falling below 100 seats, one of their worst results in history.
– Vox, for its part, has consolidated its position as the third largest party and the fastest-growing, with 18.2% of the vote and between 61 and 64 seats. This result could double the 33 seats it won in the 2023 elections.
– With these results, the PP’s Alberto Núñez Feijóo could be sworn in as the next Prime Minister, but only if Vox agrees to allow it. Together, they hold between 201 and 212 seats. If they reach 210, they would represent three-fifths of Congress and could implement significant measures such as a constitutional reform, the formation of a governing body for RTVE (Spanish Radio and Television Corporation), or the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary.
– But the biggest surprise of the poll is undoubtedly Junts. The party of Carles Puigdemont, whose arrest warrant has just been lifted, was decisive in defeating the omnibus housing decree, and yet it is growing significantly. The pro-independence party has gone from 1.6% of the vote and seven seats in 2023 to 2.9% of the vote and between ten and eleven seats in the poll.

MALAGA CITY
More delays– The electrical power required by the new Malaga Auditorium has been denied: {Trans, summary}
– There is not enough energy available right now to build the Málaga Auditorium. This was announced by the Mayor of Málaga , Francisco de la Torre, at the Málaga Hoy Forum, “Málaga’s Electrical Infrastructure: Challenges, Opportunities, and Growth for the Future,” organized by this newspaper in collaboration with the City Council and the Málaga Provincial Council at the Áurea Palacio de la Tinta Hotel. “This morning I was notified that the Auditorium has been denied the required electrical power,” stated the mayor, who added that he is “confident” the issue will be resolved quickly. He indicated that the project requested 10 megawatts (MW). Currently, the project is supposed to be in the bidding process, but power must be available and its specifications known (price, capacity, etc.) before any contractor can formulate a bid.
– Without the electrical power, the project is paralyzed. Therefore, it will have to wait for the final approval and eventual construction of the Málaga Centro substation, recently announced by the government. However, before approval there are still procedures to complete, and they are hoping that the upcoming elections will not further delay the project that has already been pushed into the next decade. Another Home Invasion- They threaten and attack the inhabitants of a house in Almanzora to steal 70 euros from them: {Trans, summary}
– The Civil Guard of the Almería Command has arrested two people as alleged perpetrators of a crime of robbery with violence and intimidation committed in a house in the Almanzora region, in the early hours of 7 October 2026.
– The events occurred during the early morning, when two people knocked on the door posing as an acquaintance of its inhabitants. Upon noticing the deception, the victims tried to close, but the alleged perpetrators pushed the door and forced their way inside. Once inside, they threatened and assaulted the residents with a knife to demand money, stealing 70 euros.
– The noises and calls for help alerted several neighbours, whose arrival motivated the assailants to flee. The Civil Guard became aware of the incident that same night and immediately began efforts to identify and locate those responsible. The information provided by the victims and witnesses, together with the work of the agents, made it possible to arrest the two alleged perpetrators. CEUTA CRISIS
Damning report on Ceuta- the Government did not act because it lacked information, but because of a lack of resolve: {Trans}
– The State did not defend the autonomous city, and Morocco’s exoneration was not due to a lack of information, but to a decision of its own.
– The report is devastating. The failures surrounding the invasion of Ceuta were not failures of information on the part of those who were supposed to provide it, as they did so, but failures of decision-making by those who were supposed to take the decisions, namely the Government of Pedro Sanchez. “The State, with the Government at its head, did not defend Ceuta.”
– Security expert Jose Maria Gil {pic} has prepared a concluding report, seen by LA RAZON, in which he emphasises that “the Spanish State had, at least three days in advance, converging and highly reliable intelligence concerning a mass entry into Ceuta on 30 July 2026. It obtained it, assessed it and transmitted it through sectoral channels. It did not integrate it or elevate it to the bodies provided for by Law 36/2015 for crisis management, and the political level did not adopt any of the decisions that this information required. The failure was not one of intelligence gathering. It was one of escalation, integration and decision-making.”
“The management of the crisis by the Government of Spain is assessed as having been seriously deficient, together with a selective declassification aimed at supporting its version of events.”
– The analyst maintains that “the State obtained and transmitted converging, highly reliable intelligence at least three days in advance. The coordination bodies established under Law 36/2015 were not activated. The chain broke down between Defence and Interior, and between the technical bodies and the Presidency.” There was a “failure of decision-making. The situation of interest was declared twenty-five days after the entry, with all the information available. None of the available legal instruments was activated, not even the one most proportionate to what the Prime Minister himself described as an attack.”
– He emphasises that “there was a ‘selective declassification of documents. The material withheld is that which most compromises the official version that the scale was unforeseeable'” and that “the Interior Minister denied the existence of reports that were held within his own department and, when they became known, shifted the debate towards the scale and the term ‘massive’. The intelligence was warning of a mass entry, and the State had known since 2021 what that means in Ceuta.”
– Jose Maria Gil maintains that “a state of emergency limited to Ceuta was the proportionate response to what the Prime Minister described on 31 July as an attack on the territorial integrity of Spain. Anyone who describes an event using the terms of Article 32 of Organic Law 4/1981 cannot then act as though nothing had happened that justified even convening the Situation Committee. The inconsistency between the public characterisation and institutional inaction is, in itself, an indicator of the failure.”
– He recalls that “on 31 July, in Ceuta, the Prime Minister described what had happened as an attack on the territorial integrity of Spain and, in the same statement, thanked the Moroccan authorities for their cooperation, described communication with Rabat as ‘constant and fluid’, and attributed the influx to criminal gangs and to a self-interested reading of the Supreme Court’s ruling. The previous day, CIFAS had described the Moroccan conduct as ‘negligent and passive’. According to confidential human sources whose identities have been withheld, members of the PSOE Federal Executive Committee acknowledged within internal circles during those weeks the Government’s management failures and Morocco’s responsibility.”
– He adds that the “public line of exonerating Rabat did not stem from a lack of information, because the State’s own services described the opposite and part of the governing party’s leadership acknowledged it privately. It was a choice. This report does not address the reasons for it, which it is for the person who made that choice to explain.”
– As regards the Interior Minister, he stresses that “between 1 August and 10 September, his actions do not correspond to the information held by bodies within his own department. There are two possible explanations, and neither exonerates him. If he knew about it, his initial statements were knowingly false. If he did not know about it, then the information held by the National Police, CENIF and the Guardia Civil failed to reach him during the critical days. According to the report, this would confirm the breakdown in the chain of communication and command within the Interior Ministry described in section 5 of Jose Maria Gil’s report. The subsequent evolution, from denying the reports to disputing their scale, and from disputing their scale to disputing the meaning of the word ‘massive’, is the pattern of a version being adjusted as the documents become known, rather than that of information being clarified.”
– “The argument that the scale was unforeseeable”, he adds, “does not withstand the precedent of 2021. A mass entry into Ceuta was foreseeable, it was anticipated in the documents, and its significance was known to the Government. The fact that measures proportionate to that knowledge were not adopted leads to a conclusion that this report states without qualification: the Spanish State, with the Government at its head, did not defend Ceuta.” Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/espana/demoledor-informe-ceuta-gobierno…

UKRAINE WAR
At least 30 dead in a Russian attack on a bus in Kramatorsk, a war-torn city in Ukraine: {Trans, summary}
– A Russian guided bomb exploded next to public buses filled with passengers in eastern Ukraine, authorities said Thursday, killing 30 people as part of a wave of attacks that also worsened power outages in the capital. The morning attack occurred next to a bus stop in the war-torn city of Kramatorsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk region {pic, body parts pixilated}, prompting public transport to be suspended in the area.
– Russia has escalated its aerial attack in recent weeks, putting pressure on Ukraine as it prepares for winter and hitting the infrastructure keeping its war-battered economy afloat. Recent targets have included energy systems, key industries, railways, post offices, shopping centers, telecom networks, gas stations and grain exports.
– Thursday’s attack followed missile strikes a day earlier that killed 22, including five children, in the northern Ukrainian town of Pryluky. Rescuers were searching the rubble of a residential building hit by a Russian missile. At least 54 people were wounded. Heavy debris was removed from the cratered section of the building, while rescue dogs searched nearby for residents who have not yet been accounted for. – The Picasso Birthplace Museum in Malaga delves into the more political side of the Malaga-born artist with the exhibition ‘Picasso, Propaganda and political activism’, a show that brings together 130 pieces to explore his involvement in different international campaigns and the use of his public prestige to defend peace, freedom and democracy.

Two Patti Smith concerts among the highlights of the Princess of Asturias Awards: {Trans, summary}
– The Princess of Asturias Foundation presented this Thursday the program for the Week of the Awards, which will bring together 65 cultural activities between October 14 and 24 on the occasion of the 46th edition of the Princess of Asturias Awards, in Avilés, Cadavéu (Valdés), Gijón, Granda (Siero), Langreo, Mieres, Oviedo and Villaviciosa.
– Two concerts by Patti Smith, a Princess of Asturias Award winner – one in Gijón and another in Oviedo – and a meeting between the Princess of Sports Award winner, Leo Messi, and the educational community are some of the most important events scheduled.
– Perhaps the most anticipated are the events featuring Patti Smith, who, in addition to the already announced concert at the Jovellanos Theatre on the 20th, will perform another concert at La Fábrica in Oviedo on the 21st. Patti Smith will be the first of the award winners to arrive in Asturias; she will arrive next Sunday, the 18th. There will also be a great deal of participatory activity with it, in which more than 75 choirs from all over Asturias are currently working, and in which we estimate that 3,000 people will sing with her. I think it will be a beautiful and exciting moment,” the director of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, Teresa Sanjurjo, stated.
– Sanjurjo reminded everyone that all scheduled activities are free and open to the general public, with the exception of a few specific events that require an invitation. She explained that registration for the events will open in three phases: the first on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m., for activities taking place from October 15 to 18, and for the Patti Smith concert on October 20; the second on Saturday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m., for events between October 19 and 24 (except for the event with Leo Messi on October 22), and for the Patti Smith concert on October 21; and the third on Sunday, October 18, at 10:00 a.m., for the event with Leo Messi on October 22. Too expensive & complicated– Sharp drop in dog and cat adoptions with only 42% of those in centres adpoted: {Trans, summary}
– Adoptions of dogs and cats in Spain fell to pandemic-era lows in 2025. Of 285,000 animals available, only 120,000 were adopted, 42% of arrivals. Dog adoptions dropped 18% from 2024 to about 72,000 of 169,000 taken in, the lowest since the pandemic. Cat adoptions fell 14% to 48,000 of 116,000.
– The Affinity Foundation’s study attributes longer stays in shelters to behavioural issues, chronic illness, size, age and breeds deemed potentially dangerous. The resulting congestion reduces shelters’ capacity to respond. Among families interested in adopting, 35% ultimately did not, mainly because they could not find a desired size or would not accept adoption conditions (adoption expenses, home inspections, follow-up visits, manditory neutering, and paperwork). Adoption failures usually stem from animal behaviour or greater responsibility than expected. Affinity’s director urged responsible, informed and committed adoption. – Oscar & Nancy are brother and sister, they have shared their whole lives together, and their bond is something truly special. While we’d love nothing more than to see them find a forever home together, we’re open to the idea of them being adopted separately if it means giving them the loving homes they deserve. They are both loving, affectionate dogs, medium to large in size. Currently in kennels after being left behind by their owner.
Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport. 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, neutered and passport. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
