TAIL Torrox. Sept-October

Digamites might have friends or family who would be interested in an opportunity to work as a supervisor at TAILTorrox- our dog refuge.

The person would obviously have to like dogs and be confident about handling them.

You would be involved in the supervision of volunteers, as well as helping with the general running of the refuge and helping to organise activities for fund raising.

We currently have a team of residents who volunteer and who take part in regular meetings

Food and accommodation is provided and a minimum of 25 hours a week with two free days.

Some Spanish language an advantage but not essential.

It is a great environment to work in with volunteers of all nationalities and would also suit someone who might be looking to re – locate and improve their Spanish.

Endesa Scam – plus….

In today’s post on the subject, the writer suggested that Edessa’s database had been hacked.

It may be true but I have received one of those scam emails, (it was in my spam folder and I ignored it) and I am not an Endesa customer. So it could be from another source but vigilance is sensible in this deceitful age we live in.

Endesa – further warning

There’s need for a bit more vigilance around the Endesa scam than just the fake bills.  It seems that the scammers have got hold of Endesa’s client database, otherwise how can they e-mail us?  As many of us pay by Direct Debit there is the risk that they may also have got that banking information, so we all need to watch our bank accounts and make sure that no fraudulent debits are set up on the account.  If they are, then contact your Bank immediately – banks have no desire to become embroiled in fraud and they will help.

In their response Endesa appear to have taken a leaf from the many UK companies that lose client data, apparently with no sanction against them – a bit of ritual hand wringing, a few platitudes and they tell us that we “need to watch out”!

Help Needed with MacBook

Just bought a Epson inkjet printer to use with MacBook Air. Followed instructions for set-up including wi-fi but guess what? When trying to print something get the message printer not connected. The printer is obviously set-up and working OK as printed wirelessly from my iPad without problem. Have trawled the web but without success.

Any suggestions welcome.

Recommendations Needed –Wardrobe Organiser

We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.  The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  It is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price.

What’s on– Music Festival in Nerja

The cultural association Ventana Abierta: arte, cultura, personas presents in August the II Summer Festival “Nerja Ciudad Abierta. MÚSICA EN OTROS ESPACIOS”, a unique project whereby concerts take place in private areas not usually open to the public. We open new doors as we discover Nerja under the stars.

The resounding success of the 2015 Festival has raised the standard, and this year we are happy to offer a series of outstanding events which cannot be missed, which include  Classical Music, Latin Jazz, Blues, and Flamenco Fusion.

His extensive curriculum includes several concerts in the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany.  He has performed at important music venues such as the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, St. Martin in the Fields and St. James’ Piccadilly in London, in the Teatros del Canal de Madrid and in various musical societies of the U.K.  He earned his diploma at the Royal College of Music.

Warning – Scam Mails

I had an email yesterday from Endesa with a bill to me for 899 euros .. almost 10 times what I pay. I quickly realised all the information on it was completely wrong .. the contador number etc etc ..also Endesa don’t send online bills in that format. …and there was a “click here” request to see more … two hours later I received a phone call fro a guy in Spanish saying I had an urgent bill outstanding that needed immediate attention .. uh uh .. anyone EVER heard of Endesa ringing someone up .. I don’t think they even possess a phone !!! …. on the bank managers advice I’m off to the police with all the info including the tel. no. SO

What’s On – Trip to Almuñecar

The Phoenix Club are off to the Almunecar on Monday evening the 15^th August to celebrate their  Fiesta de la Virgen de Antigua.  This is the Patron saint of Almuñécar and a week long party with fair ground, live music, dancing and much partying all night long.  Supporting activities and events take place in and around Majuelo Park, Casa de Cultura as well as a beach volleyball competition near the Los Bajos beach bars.

This all comes to a head on the 15th with the statue of the Virgen being solemnly carried from the church down to the beach at La China.  She is then sailed around the rocks of the Peñon, escorted by a small armada, to arrive back on land at Playa Peurta del Mar around 23:00.  This then triggers a truly amazing firework display from the beach, castle, sea and all points of the compass!  When this finishes everyone heads back to the feria to eat, drink & dance the night away.

The Firework display starts at 23.00 for an hour and then we return to the bus at half past midnight to come home.

My opinion is, if your computer is only 3yrs old and supported by the manufacturer for the upgrade, then yes. Properly installed with correct Win 10 drivers it is an advance from Win 8.1. Win 10 has new features that will become more important as our networked devices grow in number and complexity. Soon your smart appliances, auto computer, health monitor wristband and home security system will all be talking to your primary computer.

Warning re Tow Bars & Spanish Law

Please be advised that you cannot just remove a tow bar from a Spanish reg vehicle yourself.

It has to be done by a recognised mechanic and a new EVT with the info on the paperwork..

Also you cannot fit a tow bar to a Spanish reg vehicle yourself, it has to be done by a recognised mechanic and a new EVT with the info on the paperwork.

There will have to be the tow bars original manufacturers certificate of compliance when presented for EVT.

I had a new Spanish made tow bar, with all paperwork, fitted to a Spanish reg saloon and it ended up being presented for EVT 3 times before it was completed and the mechanic that fitted it had to take the car himself, with his tow bar fitting certificate!

They are red hot. There are UK tow bar companies that will not now ship their gear to Spain because of the regulations,

Regarding the post about using the key-cutting shop in El Ingenio, be careful to ask what the cost is before ordering a key. They do key cutting but it can be expensive. We had a key cut for a Hyundai Atoz (small compact car) and it cost nearly 80 Euros!

In response to Tish Davies article, I would like to detail my experience regarding the illegal dumping of household rubbish on the surrounding roads  of Competa.
A bin was placed at the junction of the road to La Mata and the Competa/Torrox road recently and it has become a sad advert for the area. I believe it is illegal for the local council under E.U. law to encourage people “not” to recycle their rubbish.
I placed notices on the bins in Spanish and English last Friday lunchtime.

Whilst I was placing the notices, a British guy pulled up in his car with a bag of rubbish. I asked him could he read the notices, he grunted and put the bag in the bin, and went back to his car, talking in English to the rest of his passengers . The notices lasted 2 days, before they were torn off. The English notice I put up was:
PLEASE CONSIDER DISPOSING OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH AT THE RECYCLING CENTRE, OPPOSITE THE BUILDER’S YARD (TEJIERO AND GLOYPAT), ON THE WAY INTO COMPETA, ABOUT 1 KM FROM HERE.

OPEN 24 HOURS, 7 DAYS A WEEK.
PARKING INSIDE OF CENTRE
SIGNED:                                         A LOCAL RESIDENT, CONCERNED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
I  contacted the Council a few weeks ago to enquire as to whether the Recycle Centre On the Competa/Torrox road was now “legal”. I was told that it was. I stated that the vast amount of people that I had spoken to, still believed that it was closed to the public. I suggested that a sign be put up outside the concealed entrance to state that it was now open. I was told that a notice was going to be put in the Grapevine to explain the situation. Yes, two lines of text were inserted in the magazine to state that it was now open.
The illegal letting of property has a lot to do with this situation.

Rubbish – Appeal for Tidiness

Can I make an appeal to people that think overflowing bins like this are acceptable? If your nearest bin is full, please make an effort to take your rubbish to the multiple bins, skips and recycling points that are located at the (previously known as) ‘tip’

There are plenty of other re-cycle points and bins around. If you don’t want a smelly bag of rubbish in your car then hang it from your rear windscreen.

If you are a holiday villa owner, or property management company, please instill in your rental guests the importance of disposing of rubbish in a sensible manner and encourage them to re-cycle.

Don’t just moan that the Ayuntamiento isn’t collecting it regularly enough – I have already written to the Alcalde. Let’s all be pro active and sensible in rubbish disposal and recycling and keep our beautiful village of Cómpeta clean and tidy.

Fire in Nerja

Is this the first fire this year near Nerja ?

On Sunday evening the familiar sound of the water bombing helicopter could be heard over the motorway tunnel to the west of Nerja.

They do a wonderful job – but the Bomberos seem very unfamiliar with their local region and one can watch them trying to get near the fire along tracks that locals know will never reach the place.

The Guadia Civil seem to suffer from the same lack of local knowledge.

Dual Nationality

Banking

I assume that M.S. is saying that they are worried that their Unicaja account has been/will be blocked. There is a Europe wide / U.S. requirement that all banks ascertain that funds  they hold are legitimate – i.e. not the result of money laundering that funds terrorism/ drugs etc, so all banks have to ask customers to fill in forms (forms which are sometimes complicated).

We had to do this for our Nat West accounts in the UK, then received forms from Cajamar – in English – to our UK home address, asking that we take them into the bank in Torrox. We could not do this so I copied the forms in Word, completed the details as far as I could understand what was required, then emailed them to the branch (or head office, I can’t remember) and have not heard anything since, so assume all is well. Having been into the branch since to withdraw money, and was not questioned. Assuming a mark would have been made on our file had there been any further queries, I believe all is well.

Hope this helps – contact Unicaja, they should have contacted you in Spain or in the UK to ascertain where your funds originate. The onus is on the banks to do this.

Bank Accounts

1. 1. I was advised by my bank personally on visiting them last Wednesday that the account would be frozen if I did not prove income, I prepare a tax return each year and have a letter confirming my return which shows the income and tax paid, this is sufficient for the bank. The bank scanned the documents and advised me all  was well. Don’t panic the Government is simply establishing your income. If in doubt consult a legal adviser.

I have yet to come across this problem with our accounts although some time ago Sabadell did ask to see our passports as ID, but as we had not long opened the account they said it wasn’t necessary to show them again.

Just in case they are not aware M.S who wrote yesterday will need to complete yearly non-resident tax returns (form 210) to the Spanish tax office

Hi Digamites, we own a holiday home in Competa, but do not live in Spain, and have THAT letter from the bank regarding income etc. Can anyone please clarify for me what it is they require, will a pay slip do, or do they want my P 60, we have no income in Spain, we do not let our house at any time, and pay cash into our Unicaja account when in Spain to cover direct debits etc and to use for holiday money, any advice would be appreciated, please post replies to Digame as I am sure I am not the only one in this situation,

AAR/RBL fundraisiers Well we certainly finished our ‘year’ with a bang…. 3 events in the last 2 weeks, raising a whopping 1412.00e total, 706.e for each charity.. The ‘Garden Party’ on 25th June raised 283.50 each, The fantastic Lola Boys on 1st July raised 356.60 each, and our trip to Gibraltar on the 6th raised 66e each. RBL will be donating theirs into the Poppy Appeal, and AAR will go towards local neutering and emergency vets bills. Recommendation- Campo Cats

I would like to add my recommendation for Linda at Campocats.  My two cats have not spent a night away from home since they arrived with us as wee little kittens, eight years ago, and I have to say just how impressed we have been with the whole operation, Linda is obviously a devoted cat person, and it really shows.  I had expected that my little female cat to be quite nervous, but when I collected them this morning, I couldn’t have been more wrong, she was completely at ease and showing absolutely no signs of stress at all, unlike me who fretted everyday I was away!!  So now I will have no qualms about leaving them in the totally fantastic hands of Linda for any future trips.  Huge thank you to Campocats.

Thursday 21^st July – Coach excursion to Gibraltar.  Why not join Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar and visit Gibraltar, a chance to take a Cable Car to the top of the Rock, see the Unique Barbary Apes.  Visit the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, where you will find the Historic Tunnels dating from 1779-1783 and St. Michael´s Cave.  Both of these have guided tours.  In the town can be seen the Gibraltar Museum, Government House and in the Southern area are key historical sites. All information may be obtained from the Tourist Office, or an excellent alternative way of seeing the sights is by hiring a taxi, whose drivers are very knowledgeable and will explain the interesting, historical life of the Rock.  It is also an opportunity to purchase Duty Free Items and typical English items of food, etc. from the Morrisons Super Market. Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre. Proceeds for fund raising.  Departure times Puente don Manuel (Hotel Romero) 6.45am, Algarrobo (Lidl) 7.15am, Caleta (Vets) 7.20am and Torre Del Mar (Bus Station) 7.30am. Advice Needed Please

We purchased a house last year but are non-resident and have a

Unicaja account. We’ve only had a couple of holidays at the house

so far and everything is very new to us in how the systems work out there.

Does anyone know if this blockage applies to non residents too as we are not pensioners and both work and pay tax in the U.K.

I fully support Mark in what he is saying and its true. If you are caught using illegal cash in hand workers you will both be fined.

It’s expensive to be legally self employed here, and we still have a lot

to pay out each month wether we have work or not.

So I would urge people to use legal labour.

I’m afraid R C needs to wake up and smell the coffee. If someone is on your property doing work for you and they get injured, you are in deep. A really serious injury, like a tree trimmer falling and being paralysed, kiss your house, and more, goodbye. The black economy affects everyone. If they’re not legal your insurance is invalid. Check with your insurance company. Has it happened yet…. no. Will it happen…. I hope not.

Even if you are renting, if you employ someone on behalf of the owner, it’s your problem. Let the owner or agent do the deed. It’s not scaremongering, it’s fact,

Referring to the post by Chris regarding his bank account being blocked – it would be nice if the bank advised their customer of the block for what ever reason!  What happens to standing orders/direct debit payments if this happens I wonder?

(2) Chris, this is nothing new. Last year we had to do this at Cajamar, and also our bank in the UK. I think it was an EU-passed requirement. Not only do they want to know where your finances come from but proof of identity/location etc. It was hard enough getting it sorted here in Spain but First Direct, who we’ve banked with for around twenty years, were a complete and utter nightmare. I had to resort to sending Google Earth images of our house in Torrox campo along with a print out from the Registro office, and so much more. For those living in the countryside without an address recognised by the post office it can be a nightmare. I resorted to bombarding them with every piece of identity and proof of location possible. It took months to sort out, and in that time all sorts of restrictions were placed on our account. If anyone reading this hasn’texperienced this yet, don’t worry. You will,,,,.Nigel

 

Opinion – Scare Tactics ?

I would like to comment on the statement made 7th July by the person (Mark) whom obviously is trying to drum up some business by trying to scare people into picking up the phone and using his company to carry out any works required.

Not clever and not very ethical, perhaps the person in question should remember that these odd job people can sometimes only survive by doing what they do.

My suggestion – go out and tout for work without slagging others.
