Questions . Canoe and cleaning business

Digamites, please remember, if you are having any refurbishment works to your property, you or your constructor need to apply for and display a licence for the works carried out.
It is advisable to also make sure the constructor is legal, ie an SL or autonomo.
If you are caught reforming your property without a licence you will be fined, if you are caught using “black” labour you will be fined as will they.

Opinion re Government  & Bank

Trying to pay €20 into my Unicaja branch in Torrox Pueblo yesterday, I was told it could not be done as my account had been blocked.

It was explained that this was nothing to do with the bank – the Government, ‘big brother’,  required information about my source of income which in my case, being a pensioner, is a stingy few hundred euros a month.

I had to prove that I was a pensioner before my account could be opened again.   What is going on here ?

Unicaja said this was a new requirement and everyone would be affected.

They were still learning how to administer this and it took two hours to sort out.  Has anyone else experienced this yet ?

If the sun doesn’t kill us the bureaucracy will.

Services Needed-Insurance Advice

I own an apartment in Torrox Costa and have paid building (as well as contents) insurance for ten years.

The community (ie us) also pays for buildings insurance .

I have had difficulty ascertaining from the administrator exactly what that covers . I have always thought that the cover I have was – for example – to pay for damage caused  by water overflowing from my apartment to others which would need professional drying out and redecoration

While the community insurance covered calamities such as fire destroying or severely damaging a building.
I appreciate that the obvious answer is to get a copy of the community insurance, but it occurs to me that I am probably not the first to encounter this issue and to ask Digamites if anyone has got a definitive answer.

I see that I’m not the only one to discover Chris at CP Auto Air Conditioning but feel that he is well deserving of praise and someone may see this who otherwise might miss him.

Sure enough with the hot weather here, the car air-conditioning has to be at its best and Chris is the skilled guy to go to if yours is needing servicing.

He knows his stuff, has equipment you will only see in Star Wars and being a male myself, I can only quote the ‘Brass Monkey’ analogy.

Perhaps there is a lady out there who has experienced the female equivalent and add weight to the recommendation.

What’s on –Exhibiton 

 

The exhibition of Fernando de la Rosa  opens the cycle “Art Summer” in space Ventana Abierta Association in C/ Granada, 42. (Nerja).

In this series, Fernando de la Rosa invites us to be witnesses to a process of reflection, that of a painter confronted with the limitations of his means and making inroads into other dimensions, in an intimate conversation with what it means to be a member of homo sapiens.

Thus we find transgressions of planes and frames, unexpected excursions, forms that coalesce and intersect with found objects, setting the stage for assemblages where the vestiges of painterly line, color and canvas are ever present.  The reference to Marcel Duchamp’s “Ready-Made” invokes the fortuitous, that which we cannot control, widening our imagination to embrace things we daily ignore. The assemblage becomes the deliberate act of someone who is attentive, perceptive, and who interprets, arranges and dismantles, combines and reassembles what is brought to him by chance, by the river of life.

Torrox Car Parking Disks

(1) In Torrox Pueblo, clocks are available from the hairdressers at the car park behind the ambulatorio or at the town hall.
On the Costa I bought one last week at the Tourist information desk in the municipal building opposite ALDI. The mini-market on Avenida America also have them.

(2) For the blue costa parking disks go to the town hall building directly opposite the roundabout as you hit the coast road coming down from the motorway. For the green village parking disk go to the town hall in the plaza. Each one will cost a euro. The village disks are required all year. I believe the disks for the costa only apply for the months of July and August – there are signs indicating this dotted about. Nigel.

Recommendation Cattery

I can recommend Campo Cats as the best cat hotel I have found east of Malaga.  Apart from the care the cats are given, and the nice “rooms” they have, an added bonus is that it is not a boarding kennels for dogs as well.  My cat isn’t used to dogs and in the past she has been frightened when she heard dogs in neighbouring kennels.

Wallet (cash and cards) theft in Supersol, Torre del Mar (Lions roundabout)  30.6.2016 am

Two men, smartly holidaywear dressed, cheery, but little command of either English or Spanish. One asked for help in knowing the sugar content of a jar of jam he’d picked off the shelf.

Short while after, same two (perhaps they’d been following us around), one professes not to understand the price of a pineapple half.  While I took him over to the scales, his partner lifted the wallet from my brother-in-law’s shorts while I was at the scales for no more than 45 seconds.  €220, plus credit and debit cards.

Theft not discovered until we had driven five minutes away.  Returned to store, but men no longer there.

In the village of Teba this Scottish Festival will take you back to the Middle Ages in the days of Sir James “The Black” Douglas.

Douglas Day commemorates the death of Sir James who fell in the successful battle to capture Castillo de Estrella for the young Spanish King Alfonso XI. Sir James joined the fight whilst carrying the embalmed heart of King Robert the Bruceto the Crusades in the Holy Land.

Our tour will arrive in Teba around 10.30am, in time for commencement of activities at 11.00 am, and will depart at 5.00 pm. Your day will be free for you to enjoy the Medieval atmosphere of the street market, live music including Scottish pipe band, historical characters falconry display, snake performers, archery gallery, gymkhana, food and drink and more.

Activities centre around Calle San Francisco, Plaza de la Constitución and Plaza de España and you’ll have plenty of time to make the short (1km) walk to the ruins of the Castillo, affording great photo opportunities.

My neighbour says that because my fir trees have spread out so they now grow partially across our dividing fence I must remove them altogether – cut them down, and at my cost. Now, in the UK I know that the law says you are free to cut down any overhanging branches from your neighbour (albeit at your OWN cost) but you may not otherwise damage the tree. Does the same apply in Spain? i.e. it is up to him to trim off the bits he doesn’t want over his land? Hope so: I need the shade…

Information Needed – Health Care

We have recently arrived to live in Spain and we are trying to get registered for healthcare.
We have a Pardon, a NIE number and an S1 form from the UK pension office.
We are not sure what to do next, it says on the form to take it to the INSS is that the social security office. Our other problem is we don’t speak Spanish so we are finding it very difficult to get any information or to complete any forms.
Can anyone help us please.

News from DoctorLaptop -On Fiber Optic Internet

Just to let folks know, I had Axartel fiber optic internet installed today. I got 60Mb/s speed for €24.95/mo + €60 to install including wifi router. Install took an hour. No landline required. The speed tests at 48 to 65Mb/s depending on the website I test at, so I am very pleased. Installers even spoke English. This was the best deal for my purposes. Other providers are available but require a package purchase including a landline I have no use for. If you do want a landline and IPTV with your internet I suggest you check the websites for Movistar, Axartel, Orange, etc. for the deal that best suits you.

I can now offer classes that require the good internet speeds I was lacking previously.

You can buy cans in Supersol in Torrox although we tend to buy ours in the big Carrefour in the Rincon Commercial centre.

They have a small area of international food and they are by far the best price too (we are Greene King fans!) so always stock up when we go there.

We have used this company in the past but have needed to share an order with friends to get the free delivery. They have by far the biggest range.

What’s on –Aire Flamenco – 

The band Aire Flamenco, has different performances this weekend. If you have never listen to our music, you have many  choices.

On Friday, 1st July, we’ll be performing for the opening of the new restaurant in Cómpeta, (old La Vendimia). The music will start at 8pm.

On Saturday, 2nd July, from 2pm, we’ll be at El Acebuchal. The Town Hall of Cómpeta organizes this party. There will be procesion and free food.
