Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History group meets the first Tuesday of each month in El Parquesol restaurant El Morche at 11am. Next meeting is the 4th of September.
The group has been set up so that individuals who are interested in the History of Spain can get together in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The speakers are members of the group who read and then give talks on their chosen subject.
The aim of the group is to stimulate peoples interest and understanding of the people of Spain and to gain a knowledge and understanding of Spain’s History through reading and discussion; to develop an interest in the past; to learn about significant events in Spanish History; to visit places of historical interest; archaeological sites; museums and archives and to learn about the different religions and cultures which have played a part in Spanish History.
Our Speaker for September will continue with his talks on the Romans the second talk will be on pre-islam times and the rise of Islam, beginning with the life of Muhammad as well the early history of the caliphates and there journey to the Iberian Peninsular.
We will also be discussing our trip in October to the Medina Azahara (the shinning city) which lies just outside of Cordoba. The Medina Azahara is the ruins of a vast fortified Moorish medieval palace built by Abd-ar-Rahman III (912–961) c936 the first Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba. The Medina is located just west of the city of Cordoba. It was a medieval Moorish town and the de facto capital of Al Andalus. The city included ceremonial reception halls, mosques, administrative and government offices, gardens, a mint, workshops, barracks, residences and baths. The Phoenix Club: Our October mini break this year is to the Hanging City of Cuenca, Logrono and Avila in the north of Spain. Dates? 17th – 21st October 5 days, 4 nights.
-Cuenca is in the mountains of east-central Spain. Founded by Moors, it retains its Historic Walled Town with cobbled streets and medieval castle ruins. Perched on a spur high above the Júcar and Huécar rivers, it’s most famous for its well-preserved “casas colgadas,” or hanging houses. Cantilevered over the Huécar gorge, they seemingly cling to the cliffs’ edges.
-Avila is sometimes called the Town of Stones and Saints, claims to have the highest number of Romanesque and gothic churches per capita in Spain. It has complete and prominent medieval town walls, built in the Romanesque style. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.
-Logroño was an old settlement, first of the Romans, under the name of Vareia, a commercial port, and then of the Celt. The region was finally annexed to Castile. Logroño was the main seat of the Basque Witch Trials, part of the Spanish Inquisition.

A new Pottery course will begin in September 2018:

Recommendation: We have discovered a little gem in Trapiche, Centro Dharma. The centre is easy to find, directly opposite where you turn off the main road, from Velez Malaga heading towards lake Vinuela, to El Trapiche. Look for the turquoise painted building and you can park with no hassle. They are open mornings and afternoons. The centre is a peaceful haven with friendly staff who make you very welcome and instantly at your ease. You can call Tracy on 642740109.

At Chiki’s with U3A and Norma: Plans for this Fall. Hello dear friends of Chiki’s Bio Restaurant! We had liked to thank you all for your support throughout last spring. As you may remember I sent a similar note on DigameXtra a couple of months back. But now, I would like to ask you to register your interest on the two following events: 1) the Chiki’s Creative Circle *(CCC) will resume on Wed., Sept. 19th from 11am to 1pm. 2) On Wed. 8/26 we will be enjoying a Pies/Quiches Crust presentation; all without the traditional butter/flour combination, hence healthier. Our máximum is 10 participants (first 10 to register). The tuition is 20€ which will include lunch following the récipes demonstration. These activities will be enjoying the collaboration of Chiki and U3A (the University of the Third Age: http://www.u3aaxarquia.com). DoctorLaptop’s Tips #70: Windows 10 computers must be kept updated to avoid serious problems. This is NOT OPTIONAL. Everyone should be on v. 1803. If you are still on a previous version you should update now. Failure to do so can cause programs and apps to quit working correctly, can cause slow performance, inability to start (User Profile Not Found errors are common if you fall behind) and other issues.
How to tell what version of Windows 10 you have: press Windows Key + R, type “winver” into the Run dialog box, and press Enter.

The second line in the “About Windows” box tells you which version and build of Windows 10 you have. Remember, the version number is in the form YYMM—so 1607 means the 7th month of 2016. A couple of lines down, you’ll see the edition of Windows 10 you’re using— Windows 10 Pro in our example.
To check for updates now: Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. Restart when prompted. Then repeat process until Windows Update says your device is up to date, “you have all the updates that are currently available”.
