SPAIN

A DANA (isolated high-altitude depression) is approaching Spain– AEMET (Spanish State Meteorological Agency) warns of heavy rain and cold weather over the weekend: {Trans, summary focusing on Andalucia}
– The weather will change in Spain over the next few hours. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) warns of increasing instability that will lead to an episode of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a general drop in temperatures. The main cause of this radical shift will be the arrival of a mass of polar air and the subsequent isolation of a cut-off low (DANA).
– The increased instability will be accompanied by the arrival of a humid flow in coastal and pre-coastal areas, making heavy and persistent rainfall possible in parts of the Balearic Islands and along the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Showers are also possible in other inland areas of the peninsula and along the Cantabrian coast.
– Although there is significant uncertainty regarding the exact position of the cut-off low and the trough, as well as surface air currents, the main scenarios indicate that the highest rainfall totals will be recorded in the Valencian Community, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Region of Murcia, and eastern Andalusia. In these areas, showers accompanied by hail, strong gusts of wind, and rainfall that could locally exceed 100 liters per square meter are possible.
– On Saturday , a frontal system will move in from the Cantabrian coast , bringing thundery showers to inland areas of the Iberian Peninsula. From the afternoon onwards, the rain will intensify and spread towards Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Murcia, eastern Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands, where it may be accompanied by thunderstorms. A widespread drop in temperatures is expected, becoming even more significant in the northwest quadrant of the peninsula.
– Sunday could be the most adverse day in eastern Spain. Heavy and persistent rain will once again batter the coastal and pre-coastal areas of the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands. Showers will continue, albeit more intermittently, in other parts of the south and interior, while light rain will persist along the Cantabrian coast. Showers and thunderstorms are also possible in other inland areas. Furthermore, temperatures are expected to drop again across most of the Peninsula, more significantly in the eastern half. Swedish Parliament rejects the appointment of Social Democrat Magdalena Andersson as prime minister:
– The Swedish parliament on Thursday voted against the appointment of Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson as the country’s prime minister, according to broadcaster SVT.
– The voting session in the parliament concluded with 99 votes in favor and 248 against. “Since more than half of the members of parliament have voted no, the chamber has rejected the proposal to appoint Magdalena Andersson of the Social Democrats as prime minister,” Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlen said. It remains unclear who will be tasked with exploring the possibility of forming a government next.
– Voting came as Andersson said Tuesday she had so far been unable to form a government following September’s election but remained ready to face a parliamentary vote on her candidacy for prime minister. Andersson’s center-left bloc narrowly won September’s election with 176 seats to the right-wing coalition’s 173 but remains divided over the composition of the new government. Spain’s Free-to-Air TV Upgrade– how to prepare for the change that arrives on November 5 in Spain: {Trans}
– Spain’s free-to-air digital television service (TDT) begins its first phase of upgrading to DVB-T2 on 5 November 2026, bringing improved broadcasting capacity, Ultra High Definition (UHD) channels and new services, including the new free-to-air channel La Séptima.
– What do viewers need to do? Most households will simply need to retune their televisions to find the updated channel line-up. The process is free and can be completed using the remote control by opening the TV settings, selecting automatic channel search and allowing the scan to finish. Some channels, including Clan, BeMad, Atreseries and DKISS, will change frequency. Retuning is necessary to continue receiving them and to find new channels.
– Check your television’s compatibility. To receive UHD broadcasts, your television needs a DVB-T2 tuner, HEVC/H.265 video decoding and a 4K UHD screen. You can check the manufacturer’s manual or test whether you can already receive La 1 UHD. La Séptima broadcasts in HD, so it does not require a 4K television or DVB-T2 compatibility.
– Do you need new equipment? No antenna changes or professional assistance should normally be necessary. Viewers who receive television through providers such as Movistar or Orange do not need to retune, as their operator manages the change. Satellite TDT services in rural areas are generally updated automatically. The transition will take place gradually, allowing households time to adapt.

FINANCIAL

Social Security confirms it– a lifetime pension is granted to children over 45 who care for their parents, are single & are financially dependent: {Trans, summary}
– The Spanish Social Security system provides a contributory family pension to eligible relatives who lived with and were financially dependent on a deceased person.
– The deceased must generally have been registered with Social Security and paid at least 500 days of contributions during the five years before death, or contributed for 15 years during their working life. Contribution requirements are waived in certain cases, including when the deceased was already receiving a retirement or permanent incapacity pension, or death resulted from a non-work-related accident or occupational disease.
– Applicants must generally have lived with and depended financially on the deceased for at least two years, have no entitlement to another public pension, earn no more than €17,094 annually in 2026, and have no other relatives legally obliged to support them.
– Eligibility varies by relationship. Children must be over 45 and demonstrate prolonged caregiving. Siblings and grandchildren may qualify under specific age, income, orphanhood or disability conditions. Parents and grandparents generally must be over 60 or have severe recognised disabilities, with additional conditions for mothers and grandmothers.
– The pension normally equals 20% of the deceased’s regulatory assessment base, potentially rising to 52% in specified circumstances. It is paid in 14 instalments annually. Applications go to the National Social Security Institute (INSS). Retroactive payments are generally limited to three months. DOG ADOPTIONS

Axarquia Animal Rescue – Voluntary Charity – non profit organisation:
CIF G93245116 ; Charity Number 10567 (Spain)
Email: axarquia-rescue@hotmail.com
Website: www.axarquiaanimalrescue.com
– Ziggy 3 months, small to medium sized Podenco, lovely friendly pup, who loves everyone he meets.
– Lenny 4 months, medium cross, great with everyone, cats, dogs and children, a perfect all rounder.
Both dogs have started their vaccinations and are available for adoption here in Spain.
Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport. 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, neutered and passport. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
