Fireworks at the Feria – Explanation

Having lived in inland Spain for 12 years. It is my understanding that the bangers that are set off before fiestas and ferias, are to let people in outlying areas, farms etc that the fun is about to begin and they should make their way there. Remember there were no phones, radios, TVs til recently in rural areas.

Blog Entries – A Personal View

Jane & her ‘associates’ do an admirable job posting our messages, ads and questions in a timely and reliable fashion.

It is impossible for her to know in all cases what is legal or not or what might somehow contravene some law, and we shouldn’t expect her to.

Don’t shoot the (invaluable) messenger.

I hope we all agree that it is the responsibility of the ‘poster’ to know the legality of what goods or service they MAY happen subsequently to provide.

Even though there may be some obscure (and pea-brained) rule that tries to pin some responsibility on the publisher, I trust that collectively we hold DigamExtra harmless and support Jane in her role as messenger.

Lost Camera Case – Torrox Park Area

Just a long shot, but on Sunday 7th August I lost a camera case containing 2 camera lenses, SD memory card, replacement battery and connecting cable. The case was a Hama Case and the whole bundle is worth approx 650 euros.
The area was along the coast road between the turning for Torrox Park (el Pino campsite) and the ” Virgen de Mar” Rock..

Services Needed

I have recommended this before as a TV option, but it was some time back.  We have a subscription for satellite TV via Movistar + (used to be Canal +) with the option to record programmes.  Every programme can be changed back to its original language (even after recording it) and a lot of the programming is similar to Sky (NCIS, Hawaii 5 O, Bones etc, etc).  Additionally they show BBC and other English presented documentaries and some TV shows from UK terrestrial TV channels (Happy Valley, Downton Abbey, Granchester etc).  Additionally there are channels dedicated to Formula 1, football and other sports.  The price of course depends on the package you want.  It isn’t the cheapest option by far, but it works well and is 100% legal.  Linda

By the Way…..

I appreciate the ban on foreign TV services, , but this is Spanish TV (which is advertised in Eroski and other places) which legally buys programmes from the US etc and broadcasts them.  We would never have any illegal system as many expats do, let alone recommend them to others.  Please spare a minute to look at the website and you will see how good it is.  It is possible to change the language on any Spanish TV station – RTVE, Antenna 3 etc.

Recommendation House and Pet sitting

We found S&T Home and Pet Services from a Facebook posting. I contacted Sarah and met her and her husband (Tony) so that they could meet our 3 big dogs. We felt at ease having met them and booked for an 11 day house and pet sit while we went to the UK.

When they arrived to start the house sit they helped us fit the car roof box before we left – definitely over and above what we might have expected.

We were delighted with the updates we received while we were away, it put our minds at rest that the dogs were well looked after. And on our return the house was clean and sparkling, Sarah even changed the beds! The dogs were relaxed and happy.

All in all we would strongly recommend Sarah and Tony for house and pet sitting. We will definitely be using their services again.

Recommendation– Healthfully and Heartily Recommend AliOli Bistro

also known as LA Bkita Verde, and for good reason

Since 12 July the eatery has gone heavily vegetarian and vegan with its lunches, breakfasts and for vegans, 24-hour notice (952 516137) ask for Chris to fix you something very vegan very special.

Reserve time and have eating experience of your life. I did this twice. Once I popped in. No one was there. It was after the kitchen closed. Chris was there pacing in the kitchen. I said can you sort about back there and just put anything together totally vegan.

The Black Adder was playing on the tele, hilarious episodes. I had a couple of beers, a great  and tasty, innovative vegan meal, beautifully spiced and presented. Shame I was all alone for such gourmet food. For the tastiest veggie and vegan food, I really think that AliOli is the go to place in Competa, at Vendimia Plaza.
