What’s on Nerja 41 Club In the last month Nerja 41 Club (Ex Round Tablers) have been entertained by Klaus Hinker an artist from Frigiliana who showed us some of his water colours, linocuts and acrylics. We have had a sauna evening at one of our members house. Also we took our ladies out Vinuela village for a lunch as well as being interviewed by a large number of students from London University The students are in the first year of their Geography Degree at Royal Holloway, University of London. They interviewed us as Ex Pats on the topical subject of Brexit as well as life in Spain. A very interesting couple of hours was spent with these charming young people. What’s on Lux Mundi March Monday 5^th to Saturday 10^th March – Coach excursion to Lisbon also visiting Sintra & Cascais . Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar on a 5 night, 6 day coach excursion to Lisbon, Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city, where from the imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-coloured buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. On Monday on route to Lisbon there will be comfort stops and you will arrive in Lisbon at 18.00 approximately. Alfama is the most traditional neighbourhood where the streets were home to fisherman for many years and the Chiado and Bairro Alto districts represent the most Bohemian and alternative side of Lisbon. On Thursday there is a day trip to Sintra and Cascais. The morning will be spent in Sintra with a guided tour in English of the amazing Palacio de Pena, which dates back to 1839 and palace constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century romanticism in the world. The afternoon you will spend free time in visit Cascais, a former fishing village that gained fame as a resort for Portugal’s royal family in the late XIX century and early XX centuries. The village has small museums, picturesque gardens, a shiny marina and a pedestrianized old town. Also try the most famous ice cream of Portugal, Santini’s Gelati, which you may then consider the best ice cream in the world. Friday there will again be free time in Lisbon to maybe take a ride in a tuk tuk to visit the cathedral or to take a boat trip and finally on Saturday you will leave the hotel at 10.00 returning to Torre del Mar at 19.30 approximately. Recommendation- Interpreter at the Hospital If anyone needs an interpreter at the hospital I would highly recommend Pamela (Mobile No. 609040709). I had to take my wife to the hospital last Friday. I needed an interpreter and I got Pamela’s number through Digamextra. She met us at an agreed place and she took us from there to the hospital where she dealt with my wife’s situation very efficiently. My wife needed an injection and Pamela noticed that the room where this would be done was sitting empty so when she checked what was happening it was discovered that the doctor hadn’t put the request through on the computer. If it had not been for Pamela’s knowledge of the workings of the hospital we could have been sitting there for a very long time. Not only that but she telephoned the next morning to enquire about how my wife was doing. Very thoughtful of her. Can’t recommend her highly enough. David & Dorothy McMillan

Recommendations Needed- repair to air-conditioning unit We have an air conditioning unit on the wall which is not working correctly. We found 2 people who advertised their services (one of these was recommended on Digame!). So we contacted them by phone and the other one on their Facebook page. We left messages, and neither of them got back to us. So this time we are looking for someone who is reliable and will at least talk to us. Recommendations- Windyana Jones and the Raiders of the Last Chicken

Have you ever had or known of a problem with a dog killing chickens, for what would seemed like, the sport of it. It’s more common than you would think. A recent case was Windy the Podenco. He had been caught by his owner killing Chickens, belonging to a neighbour that lived near by. Windy hence his name had turned up as a puppy, on a windy day, outside his new owners front door. Dumped or abandoned, small, tired, wet and hungry, how could she turn him away. She already had five cats when she only wanted two, but Windy soon became part of the family. This was a an interesting case, but with some work, resolvable. Dogs are predators so hunting is a natural instinct. That does not mean, however, that your dog has to busily express this instinct by catching and eating poultry. It might be upsetting if the chickens are your own, but if they belong to somebody else, you run the risk of legal trouble or being at war with your neighbour. A habit like this also puts your dog in danger. People do not respond well to dogs eating their animals. This neighbor was a case in point and was not the most friendly or cooperative of people. He did not have a suitable coop and the chickens were free to roam at will, which they did. This was a rural area without fenced gardens including Windys. His owner had offered the man compensation in the form new chickens and even offered to pay for a suitable coop, but these offers were strongly rebuffed. She was now worried that the neighbor may try to poison or even shoot Windy if he continued. The first thing Windy was lacking in was adequate walks. His new owner had a mobility issue, so things were difficult in that regard. But like any dog Windy had physical energy and it had to be used up or else it would be directed into the wrong areas. He was also had a lack of discipline and an overdose of love, an unhealthy balance. New rules had to be introduced and quick Windy’s owner kept chickens herself but the coop was sealed off to any outside predators. Windy was reintroduced to chickens, but this time they were given the upper hand. Windy was obviously kept on a leash and not allowed to touch the chickens. It is time consuming and requires a lot patience to stop this type of behaviour but with persistence it is possible. He also learnt that he has a boundary and very rarely ventures further. Wild gathered and winter recipes. Join us on the farm for a Spanish cookery workshop focusing on wild gathered plants and winter recipes on Friday 9th February. On Tuesday 6th February, The Nerja Players will entertain you with a rehearsed reading of a play by George Bernard Shaw “The Doctor’s Dilemma”, Abridged, Adapted and Directed by Ian Mortimer. The dilemma facing the doctor is that he has only one place available in his special course of treatment for tuberculosis but two candidates. He has to decide which patient to save: a kindly, altruistic, poor medical colleague, dedicated to helping hundreds of the less well-off who come to him for the most inexpensive treatment, or an extremely gifted but also very unpleasant rogue, cheat, womaniser, bigamist and amoral young artist. It is even harder for the doctor to separate his motives for the decision of who shall live as he has fallen deeply in love with the artist’s wife. His problem is discussed amongst his fellow doctors, and – serious as it is – there is much humour to enjoy in the exchanges between them. Although set in the first decade of the twentieth century, the play contains many allusions pertinent to the practice of medicine today: restricted access to some specialist treatments; performance of some unnecessary operations; disparity between treatments available to the very rich compared with those available to the very poor; the questionable wisdom of the public having easy access to drugs; the latent antipathy between some physicians and surgeons – also between doctors in public and private practice; how some medics use their skills to acquire considerable wealth while others dedicate themselves to benefit the poor and needy; the Press’s ghoulish interest in suffering and sorrow – it’s all there in “The Doctor’s Dilemma”. Services Wanted – Internet/ Android TV Reception Specialist We need someone who understands setting up an Android TV box system to work in two separate rooms. We are two couples watching TV in two rooms at the same time.
