– Thousands of people rallied in central Madrid on Sunday against spiraling housing costs that have priced many Spaniards out of the housing market despite a recent economic boom, particularly in cities such as the capital and Barcelona.

Soft Sentences Encourage Violent Crime- he shot a doorman who denied him access to a nightclub, gets no jail time!: {Trans, summary}
– The Court of Malaga has imposed a sentence of four years in prison (suspended) on a man for having shot at one of the doormen who prevented him from accessing a nightclub in the city, in addition to threatening both him and his coworker. This court ruling reflects the events that occurred in January 2024.
– The court relates that the defendant was rejected at the entrance of the premises by the two people responsible for access control. Faced with this refusal, the man reacted violently warning: ” I would come back to shoot them.” Hours later, on the same day, the suspect returned to the place and placed himself on the sidewalk in front of the nightclub, carrying a revolver with him with the intention of ending the lives of the doormen who had prohibited him from entering.
– The sentence indicates that he fired three shots, one of which hit the left foot of one of the guards, while the other two bullets hit the wall of the establishment. After the attack, the man, who does not have a license or weapons registered in his name, fled the scene.
– The court convicted the defendant of two crimes of serious threats, one of aggravated injury and the other of illegal possession of weapons, establishing a sentence of four years in prison. In addition, he must compensate the injured goalkeeper with 3,865 euros, a sum that has already been consigned by the convict.
– In accordance with the prosecutor’s request and with the consent of the defence, the Court decided to suspend the execution of the sentence for three years, as long as the convicted person does not commit any new crime in that period and considering the aforementioned economic consignment. At the oral hearing, the defendant admitted the alleged facts, and his lawyer also expressed agreement with what was indicated in the judicial process. These are the two proposals presented to reopen the Chillar River in Nerja- limited capacity, controlled tours and video surveillance: {Trans, summary}
– The Chíllar River, one of the most visited natural areas in the Axarquía and the province of Málaga, is moving towards a possible reopening, although it would not return to the free access model that for years caused overcrowding in the riverbed. The proposals have been presented by Sando and by Iniciativas Turísticas Ardales S.L., linked to the Hermanos Campano group. Both are based on the same idea: the Chíllar route, shared between the areas of Nerja and Frigiliana, could only reopen with controlled access, limited capacity, supervision, rules of use and environmental protection measures.
– One proposal, from Iniciativas Turísticas Ardales, would place a control point near the old quarry, regulating access to the Fábrica de la Luz, considered the starting point of the river route. The plan includes staggered entry in small groups, with a maximum of 615 people per day and no more than 360 people present at the same time. Groups would contain up to 15 visitors and routes would begin between 9.00 and 16.30, with an estimated average duration of four hours. Additional measures include a control cabin, discreet signage, picnic-style benches and environmental works such as temporary ponds for amphibians, removal of invasive cane plants and restoration of riverside vegetation. The estimated budget for these measures is €74,200.
– Sando’s alternative proposal is based on a prior reservation system. The company proposes opening the route between 1 May and 1 November 2026, with possible extensions if approved by the authorities. The proposed opening hours would be daily from 9.00 to 18.00, with a maximum sustainable capacity of about 500 people per day. Entry would cost €4.90, including VAT, and would include insurance cover for visitors within the managed route. The system would also include information panels, location maps, emergency meeting points, risk warnings and video surveillance to monitor sensitive areas, entrances and exits.
– For now, there is no definitive reopening date for the Chíllar River. The Junta continues to examine the proposals and decide which management model will apply if public access to the natural area is authorised again. ALGARROBO
Algarrobo is preparing for White Sneakers Day with a big day of community activities on June 14th: {Trans}
– The municipality of Algarrobo will once again turn white next Sunday, June 14th, with the celebration of the highly anticipated White Sneakers Day 2026, an initiative that will bring together residents in a day designed to promote coexistence, healthy leisure and citizen participation.
– The event will begin at 11:00 AM with three simultaneous departures from different points in the municipality. Specifically, participants will depart in groups from Algarrobo and from the Algarrobo-Costa Sundial at 11:00 AM, while the departure from the Mezquitilla Pergola will take place at 11:15 AM.
– All the marches will converge on Parque de la Vega, the epicentre of the day’s activities and community gatherings. The event will feature a wide-ranging program for all ages. Among the planned activities are a paella lunch for participants, music and dancing, games, workshops, gifts, surprises, and numerous other fun activities to enjoy with family and friends.
– The organizers encourage attendees to wear white sneakers, a symbol of a day that seeks to promote healthy habits and strengthen ties between neighbours from different parts of the municipality.
– To participate prior registration is required, with a symbolic cost of 2 euros. Registration will be open from May 21st to June 9th and can be completed at either the Algarrobo Town Hall or the Algarrobo-Costa Deputy Mayor’s Office. The City Council also reminds everyone that one of the requirements to participate is to be registered or reside in the municipality of Algarrobo. Russia hits Kyiv with hypersonic ballistic missile in ‘deranged’ attack:
– Russia used its powerful hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missile for a third time in Ukraine as part of a massive attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region that killed at least four people and injured about 100. Russia hit the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region with the missile, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said. He described a heavy Russian assault that also hit a water supply facility, burned down a market and damaged dozens of residential buildings and several schools. “They are genuinely deranged,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram.
– Adding further details on Sunday, Zelenskyy wrote on X that about 100 people had been injured across the country and four had died as a result of the Russian attack, which he said had hit Kyiv the hardest.
– Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the use of the Oreshnik, which is capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads, making it the third time the weapon has been used in the conflict.
