Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Judge Peinado demands that Begoña Gómez attend a preliminary hearing on June 9; “will be brought in by force” if necessary: {Trans}
– Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has declared the Prime Minister’s wife, Begoña Gómez, to be an accused and has required her to attend a preliminary hearing on June 9.
– This is what the magistrate decided in a ruling, in which he also summons Gómez’s assistant, Cristina Álvarez, and businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, the other two investigated in the case, to appear as defendants at that hearing.
– The instructor agrees that “said defendants appear in person” and “with the warning that they will be brought by force to the preliminary hearing in order to, if necessary, hold the corresponding hearing in their presence, in which some precautionary measure of a personal nature could be adopted to avoid or minimize the risk of trying to evade justice.”
– The judge proposed trying Begoña Gómez with a jury for alleged crimes of embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business and misappropriation of trademarks.

Valencia Agrees To Same Agreement With Vox As In Extremadura & Aragon, Including “National Priority” Agenda: {Trans}
– The Valencian government and Vox have agreed to approve the regional budget for 2026 at the end of July in the Valencian Parliament, after having negotiated a series of measures based on three pillars: national priority, a “significant” tax reduction and addressing the problem of access to housing.
– This was announced by Vox spokesperson José María Llanos at a press conference following the meeting of parliamentary spokespeople, where the parliamentary calendar was modified as a result of this budget agreement. The session will now extend until the end of July instead of concluding on the 3rd of that month, as originally scheduled.
– Specifically, the Consell will approve the draft budget next Friday, after which the ministers will appear before the Valencian Parliament (Les Cortes) to present their departments’ figures between June 2nd and 4th. Finally, the final budget report is expected to be approved on July 21st and 22nd.
– The Vox spokesperson expressed satisfaction at having secured a commitment from the People’s Party (PP) and the Valencian Government (Consell) under Juanfran Pérez Llorca {pic} to promote a series of measures that Vox considers urgent and a priority for Valencians. He acknowledged the willingness and desire for collaboration demonstrated by the PP-led Consell, and specifically by Pérez Llorca, to reach an agreement on the 2026 budget.
– As he explained, national priority, tax reduction and access to housing are the three pillars of the agreement, after which they will continue negotiating “point by point” with the PP once the Consell approves the budget proposal.
* “Exactly the same as in Extremadura and Aragon” *
– Regarding the national priority, he pointed out that the agreement is based on “exactly the same thing that has been agreed” between the PP and Vox in the recent government pacts in Extremadura and Aragon, which means putting “Spaniards first” in social aid and access to housing, both in buying and renting. Furthermore, he indicated that the agreement includes “further cuts to subsidies for employers and unions.” Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/espana/vox-acuerda-presupuestos…

The Government extends flexible retirement to the self-employed and improves the pensions of those who opt for this system: {Trans, summary}
– The government approved a series of improvements to flexible retirement on Tuesday in the Council of Ministers. This system allows retirees to rejoin the workforce and combine work with their pension. Specifically, the government has extended this scheme to the self-employed, who were previously excluded, shortened the eligibility period, and increased financial incentives for those who choose to participate.
– The major change introduced by the law is that it extends the scheme to the self-employed. Until now, the only way to combine pension and employment after retirement was through part-time contracts. With the law now in effect, retirees who decide to start their own business will also be able to combine the income from their activity with their pension.
– The regulation limits access to flexible retirement to only those who have not been registered as self-employed in the three years prior to their retirement date.
– Another new feature of the law is that it will no longer be necessary to wait a period of time between retirement and returning to work while also receiving a pension. From now on, workers can resume part-time employment immediately upon retirement. ANDALUCÍA

Doñana is burning: more than 400 hectares burned while workers point to a lack of personnel: {Trans, summary}
– Last Sunday, May 24th, more than a million people gathered for the Romería del Rocío pilgrimage in the Doñana National Park area. While the pilgrims sang of the marshes and the beauty of the natural landscape, a fire broke out just a few kilometers away, and two days later, it continues to threaten the area. The flames have already ravaged more than 400 hectares of Doñana within the municipality of Almonte.
– A fire is still burning in the Rincón del Membrillo area, adding to the one that started hours earlier in the Corral del Félix area, which was extinguished later that same Sunday. While the fire continues to burn, the Andalusian Minister of the Presidency and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, suggests possible arson: “The area, the day, the time, and several fires in the same area are quite suspicious, and everything seems to indicate that it could be a deliberately set fire.”
– Ecologists in Action also highlights the lack of resources faced by the workers of the Infoca (Andalusian Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction Service). Juan Ramos, a CGT union representative in the service, explains that during the first days of the fire, “due to the lack of relief crews, our colleagues worked shifts of more than 20 hours, and in the initial hours there were only two fire engines. Furthermore, they were without water supplies for many hours during the height of the fire.” He also points to a problem with the work equipment: “We have vehicles unsuitable for the work we do; the vans got stuck in the sands of Doñana National Park, and we have problems with the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE).”
– One firefighter explains that, although the rules require two crew members per truck, “they send out trucks with only one person, the driver, which carries obvious risks, and since the checkpoints are also understaffed, they couldn’t help us.” Source, Spanish: https://www.elsaltodiario.com/donana/donana-arde-250-hectareas-calcinadas-trabajadores-senalan-falta-efectivos# &

Are You Paying The Processing Costs For Immigrants? – VOX rejects the use of municipal resources for the mass regularization of illegal immigrants in Vélez-Málaga: {Trans}
– Javier Herreros {pic}, spokesperson for the VOX Municipal Group in Vélez-Málaga, announced this Tuesday that he will ask Jesús Lupiáñez ‘s government team to explain how much public money the reinforcement of the service for the mass regularization process of illegal immigrants will cost.
– “We consider it unacceptable that the Department of Social Rights and Equality is using municipal resources, paid for by all the residents of Vélez-Málaga, to facilitate processes related to the mass regularization of illegal immigrants, while many residents of Vélez-Málaga continue to have difficulties accessing aid, housing, or basic services,” criticized Javier Herreros.
– The VOX councilor also criticized the “evident complicity” of the Popular Party in the mass regularization process of illegal immigrants promoted by the PSOE. “At VOX, we believe that the priority should always be the people of Vélez-Málaga, Málaga, and Spain. We will continue to demand national priority in access to social assistance, housing, and public services,” Herreros added.
– That is why the VOX spokesperson in Vélez-Málaga has announced that VOX will demand that the government team detail how much money has been allocated to this service, how many municipal resources are being used and what the real impact of these policies is “on public services that are already under enormous pressure in Vélez-Málaga”.
